The Species of ASR
Writers have written and created characters of many different races. Below are just some of the races, both official Canon and ASR originals, that have made an appearance in our Star Trek universe of the years.
Founding Species of the Federation
* Very much like their Terran brethren both physically and characteristically. Only slight differences in appearance- Alpha Centaurians tend to be a bit stockier and hardier than the average Terran.
LOCATION: Andor V-B - Andorian system & sector - Beta Quadrant
* A violent and passionate people, they are foils to the Vulcans. However, this does not make them any less valuable a race; their expertise in the fields of weapons technology and intelligence have been of great value to the Federation. Their physical appearance is bipedal, with BLUE skin color (that varies in tone from plae to darker BLUEs), white hair and antennae which seem to be an afterthought of evolution, much like the human appendix.
- * NOTE: See below for the Aenar, a subspecies of the Andorians.
* A volatile race marked by physical features that can only be described as "porcine"- blunt, flat nose, pointed ears, short and rotund in standing. Everything about their way of life is war-like, down to their approach to negotiation- they view negotiations as a form of verbal warfare, and treat it as such. In all walks of life, they are aggressive, blunt, and rarely prone to compromise. However, these traits, though often thought of as negative, have served them- and the Federation- well in the past, especially in times of war. Tellarites often occupy regular positions in the upper levels of operational command, and as instructors in basic strategy and tactics.
* Evolving on Earth, Terrans have spread out across the known galaxy. There are numerous human colonies both within and outside the Federation and many humans live on worlds founded by other races. Many Terrans are driven by a drive to explore the universe around them and to seek out the unknown. As such, a large portion of the members of the Star Fleet are Terran. Terrans have also had a pivotal role in shaping the government of the United Federation of Planets.
* Perhaps second only to Terrans in terms of influence and power within the Federation. They share a desire to learn and explore; however, the subjugation of their emotional qualities and aversion to most practices of warfare make them very different than their Terran counterparts. Consequently, a large number of Vulcans choose more peaceful and academic positions, making wonderful Ambassadors, doctors and scientists. Physically, they are slightly taller and thinner than humans, though hardier and stronger, with a copper-based blood that tints their skin Green. They also have distinctive, pointed ears.
Other Prominent Federation Species
LOCATION: Andor V-B - Andorian system & sector - Beta Quadrant
A pale ice-blue/white, unpigmented Andorian subspecies; many are blind but “see” via powerful telepathy, and their antennae have small indentations at the funnel-shaped tips.
LOCATION: Algol I - Algol system - Alpha Quadrant
Humanoids; internal Star Fleet production notes describe them as having golden, leathery skin with a Klingon-adjacent forehead profile (on-screen individuals vary).
LOCATION: Arcadia IV - Nausicaa Sector - Alpha Quadrant
Humanoids distinguished by broad, enlarged heads with two parallel hair-lines running front-to-back along the cranium edges; slim, delicate bodies, large pointed ears, and strikingly bright, wide-set eyes with no eyebrows.Their homeworld is identified as a United Federation of Planets member by the late 23rd century; they appear among recognized Federation-associated species across multiple eras.
LOCATION: Arcturas III - Ofin Hodies Sector - Alpha Quadrant
LOCATION: Arrisa IV - Solaria sector - Alpha Quadrant
Arrisans are an ophidian species, with adults typically ranging from 2.13 to 3.66 meters in length, though size varies widely by individual. They possess two tri-jointed arms, each ending in a hand with three multi-jointed fingers adapted for precise manipulation. Carnivorous by nature, they prefer prey freshly killed.
They are known for exceptional intelligence and a combination of speed and strength that can equal—or in some individuals surpass that of Vulcans and Xelayans. Arrisans are also notably long-lived, with lifespans that can exceed 200 Federation Standard years.
- Noteable Arrisans who served in Star Fleet include:
- VADM Kagan - Star Fleet Judge Advocate General
- RADM Mahara - CINCGREEN Fleet
LOCATION: Aurelia III - Rigitus sector - Alpha Quadrant
Ornithoid humanoids with wings that span over 1.5 meters each when fully extended. They are very peaceful, tri-pedal (including the wings) with feather colors ranging from dull yellows to copper and brilliant oranges. A highly intellectual species, they are most common in Star Fleet Sciences and Medical Corps along with many civilian roles in the UFP.
LOCATION: Bajor VII - Bajoran system & sector - Alpha Quadrant
- One of the many humanoid 'Preserver' type species, very similar to Terrans with the exception of their noses which are ridged along the bridge and slightly more prominent than those of Terrans. Female Bajorans have a relatively rapid gestation period of five months, which leads to a very fast vascularisation process. A people subjugated and enslaved by the Cardassian Union from 2319 until 2369.
- Following in the aftermath of the Dominion War and stabilization of their government and religious institutions, Bajor became a Federation member in 2393. Most Bajorans are deeply involved in their faith, devoted to the 'Prophets', dimensional beings living in a nearby wormhole for millennia whom the Bajora revere as gods.
LOCATION:
- The Ba'ku originated from a technologically advanced civilization with knowledge of warp drive and positronic devices, who once explored the galaxy. In the early 21st century, their race verged on self-annihilation due to the development of weapons of mass destruction. In 2066, a small group of dissidents fled their star system and settled on a planet inside the Briar Patch, Sector 441 of the Alpha Quadrant where they would be isolated from the threats of other worlds. They discovered that an unusual metaphasic radiation emanating from the planet's rings granted them effective immortality. The Ba'ku abandoned their technology and adopted a slower pace of life. In the mid-23rd century, a band of young Ba'ku rejected the simple lifestyle of their elders. Led by Ro'tin and Gal'na, they unsuccessfully attempted to seize control of the settlement. The rebels were subsequently exiled from the planet and became the Son'a, a nomadic spacefaring power. The Son'a never forgave the Ba'ku for depriving them of their immortality, and were determined to one day return and take the metaphasic radiation for themselves.
- The Ba'ku resembled Humans in appearance. The metaphasic radiation from their planet's rings continually regenerated their genetic structures, which stopped them from aging once they reached maturity, conferred perfect health, and prevented permanent illness or injury. From a young age, the Ba'ku developed remarkable mental discipline and clarity of perception. After centuries, some even learned to slow down the passage of time in a local area, allowing them to explore the depths of a single moment.
- The Son'a were an interstellar power, originating from Ba'ku, from which they were exiled in the late-23rd century. They were nomadic, though they maintained outposts. Their command structure was called Son'a Command. Son'a were considered a narcissistic and materialistic people. They put great value in precious metals, rare jewels, and other materials, the desire for which was thought antiquated by Federation standards. Without the regenerative effects of the Ba'ku homeworld's metaphasic radiation, the Son'a became desperate in their efforts to prolong their lives by any possible means, including genetic manipulation and surgical techniques. The Son'a would make regular visits to facilities where their skin was stretched tight, and accumulated toxins were purged from their bodies. Nevertheless, due to the amount of bacteria entering their system, in the 2370s many Son'a were suffering from fatal diseases and nearing death. It was also revealed that it would take at least ten years of normal exposure to the metaphasic radiation to begin to reverse their condition.
- As of the late 2390's the planet Ba'Ku is a Federation Protectorate. Many of the Son'a have rejoined their families and integrated back into Ba'ku society. The remaining nomadic Son'a are classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
LOCATION: Bea - Terran Sector - Beta Quadrant
Beings most resemble Terran humans and Centauran humanoids. Most Beings have the golden skin tone similar to Centaurans. Other Beings have darker amber pigmentation while smaller percentages of Beings have an orange or carroty pigmentation. Beings are genetically cousins of humans and Centaurans, sharing more DNA with the Terran humanoid than the Terran mouse.
Normal Rad was the first Being accepted into Starfleet Academy July 30th, 2396 and was the first Being commissioned as an officer in Starfleet in May of 2400. Today there are over 4,800 Beings enlisted in Star Fleet and over 2,100 Being officers in Starfleet. IN 2416, 27 years after First Contact, the Beings are socially and technologically at a level similar to what Earth's was 50 years after its First Contact with the Vulcans. March 15, 2396, BEA became a Federation member world.
LOCATION: Sol III - Terran system - Sol Sector - Alpha Quadrant
A sentient Terran cetacean species with its own spoken language; noted for seeking friendly interaction with humanoids (including swimming together). Belugas are famous for their varied clicks, whistles, and calls, earning them the nickname "canaries of the sea." They use these sounds not just for basic communication, but for complex echolocation to map their environment. This ability to "see" with sound is a highly advanced form of sensory intelligence that humans lack.
- The Benzites are a warp-capable humanoid species from the Beta Quadrant and native to the Federation planet Benzar. The species primarily lives underground in large geostructures. Benzites at one time had to wear a breathing aid when in a standard Oxygen-Nitrogen atmosphere, [3] but by 2372 medical advances had rendered this device obsolete. The Benzite people are highly meticulous, a characteristic that is reflected in their regulations, one of which stated that no officer on a Benzite ship is to report any unexplained occurrence without providing a full analysis and solution.
LOCATION: Beta Zeta V (Betazed) - Beta Zeta system - Ficus sector - Alpha Quadrant.
- Externally, Betazoids were physically indistinguishable from Humans in every aspect but one: the irises of their eyes were completely black. They could interbreed with Humans, along with other humanoid races like Klingons and Tavnians. The common psionic abilities of Betazoids extended from sensing thoughts and/or emotions, over projecting thoughts and/or emotions, to manipulating the minds of others. Extremely psychonic-talented Betazoids are comparable in telepathic skills to the accomplished Vulcan students of Kolinahr.
- An elegant humanoid race marked by their abhorrence of warfare and aggression as well as their telepathic and empathic abilities. As such, Betazoids are consummate healers of both the mind and body, and are generally found as counselors and doctors, though certainly more than a few Betazoids have risen through the ranks to command starbases and starships.
LOCATION: Bolarus IX - Bolarus system - Bolian sector - Alpha Quadrant
- Bolians have a general hominid appearance- bipedal and upright, head on top of torso. However, there are several cosmetic differences that make Bolians quite distinctive from other races. Most notably, their skin tone is BLUE, usually of a pale BLUE hue. Bolians also have a bifurcated head and face, which divides it neatly in half. Typically, Bolian eyes are GOLD, but a recessive gene in their chromosomes will give the rare Bolian orange eyes. Another trait characteristic of Bolians is their baldness, but this is a cultural thing rather than a genetic norm. These relatively new additions to the Federation are excitable- they enjoy life to its fullest, and are most eager to please others along the way.
- Please see Fleet-rpg.org/library/bolians.htm "The Great Big Bolian Handbook" for more in-depth details of the Bolian race.
LOCATION: Brikar IV - Dovinda system - Purex sector - Beta Quadrant
The Brikar for lack of other terms are very secretive of their history past 150 years ago. Not that they seem to be trying to hide anything from the Federation, just that they simply refuse to talk about it. Most adult Brikars range in height from 6’4” to 6’8”, the males being a bit taller that the female of the species. But it would be difficult to tell by the casual observer. The average Brikar weight runs from 600 to almost 700 pounds. They’re vulnerable to extreme cold and may require EV suits in space.
LOCATION: Bynaus IV - Beta Magellan system - Bynar sector - Beta Quadrant
- The Bynars are a race of cybernetically enhanced humanoids native to the planet Bynaus in the Beta Magellan system. The Bynars are shorter in height than most humanoids and are genderless. With lilac skin and enlarged skulls, each Bynar has a patch of dark purple hair on both sides of their neck and asymmetrical ears. Their most definitive characteristic is that they are interconnected with a master computer on Bynaus.
- The Bynars always work and live in pairs. Their typical clothing was also consistent in such a way. Because the Bynars are so interconnected with the master computer, their language and thought patterns became as close to binary code as possible. They can speak Federation Standard, usually finishing each other's sentences. It's believed they are co-dependent on each other.
LOCATION: Althos IV - Althos system - Alpha Quadrant
Bzzit Khaht are short, long-limbed amphibians. They possess large eyes with extremely slitted pupils for enhanced dark vision and depth perception. Their outsized ears are largely holdovers from vibrational underwater communication. Their bodies range from light tan to darker brown and quickly mottle after exposure to bright sunlight. They possess a mucus layer for extended stays out of the water, as well as elongated and semi-webbed hands and long webbed feet.
LOCATION: Caecileanna II - Ortellia system - Alpha Quadrant
An amphibious, orange-skinned bipedal species with vestigial tails/fins and webbed hands/feet; males bear blue neck-rings often enhanced with silk chokers as a status indicator. They must immerse in water every 72 hours, and also communicate mood via skin-secreted chemicals (especially effective in diplomacy).
A strictly pacifist, conservationist society shaped by the “Age of Humility,” with rigid sustainability controls and small communal villages rather than large cities; economically they abolished money and operate a need-based system under the Planetary Congress. They achieved early warp capability ~50 years ago (late-22nd-century equivalent) and petitioned the Federation Council for membership in 2407 after first contact in 2399 via a probe to DEEP SPACE 239. Full membership was granted in 2411.
LOCATION:Cait II - 15 Lyncis system - Alpha Quadrant
- A felinoid race of a warlike nature. While their culture is patriarchal, it is the women who are the more active in terms of military service, mirroring the Terran feline's social structure of the males running the tribe while the female hunts. However, they are also fiercely independent, and therefore are not always the best Star Fleet officers.
LOCATION: Corellis III - Corellis Sector - Delta Corellis System - Alpha Quadrant
"Corellians are a humanoid species adapted to Class-M environments with no special requirements noted.
The Regency of Corellis is a multi-system constitutional monarchy with a powerful aristocracy, an active industrial/mining sector, and a long history of separatist unrest.
- The religion of the Correllians is called Kiedabala, and 99 percent of the DUC population is Kiedabalans. The Corellion (the religious text of Corellis' state religion tells that King Rellis, the mythical first King of Corellis, disappeared, leaving only these words behind: "Await my return."
LOCATION: Deneb Kaitos IV - Alpha Cygnus system - Alpha Quadrant
- The Deirr are a Federation member species from Deneb Kaitos IV. They resembled upright slugs made of wet brown leather, but they were eight feet long and five feet thick. They had one multi-pupiled eyeslit, below which was a vertically-oriented mouth containing many teeth. Beneath the mouth was an array of tentacles of varying sizes used to manipulate objects. Their laughter sounds like bubbling gastric juices. The species are known to be of 'high energy', very social and preferring to do things as quick as possible.
LOCATION: Delta IV - Deltan system - Alpha Quadrant
- Deltans are a humanoid species outwardly similar to Humans, distinguished by their bald scalps; they’re strongly associated with pheromonal/telepathic attraction effects and a touch-based pain-relief ability.
They originate from the Federation member world Delta IV, and Deltans entering Starfleet traditionally swear an oath of celibacy to avoid exploiting non-Deltan crewmates.
LOCATION:Denobula I - Denobula Triaxa system - Terran sector - Beta Quadrant
- The Denobulans are a humanoid species from the planet Denobula, which was located in the Alpha Quadrant. Denobulans are a gregarious, highly inquisitive people who had been allies of Humanity since the 2130s. Though Denobula was not one of the founders of the Federation, the Denobulans joined soon after. Denobulans are a sociable people, with distinctive expressive features, who are used to living in close, communal conditions, and whose extended family groups were large and complex — a Denobulan may have had several spouses, each of whom may have several partners of their own, and dozens of children between them. Culturally, they are intellectually curious, perceptive, and interested in a wide range of philosophies, though their scholarly nature, large families, and gregarious nature meant that relatively few of them ventured far from their homeworld.
- Denobulans have prominent facial ridges running down either side of the forehead to the cheeks, an enlarged brow ridge under a high receding hairline, a vertical crevice in the center of the forehead and a ridged chin. They also have a ridges on their back, along the spine. Their toenails are dark brown in color, and they grow so rapidly that they must be groomed once a week. Denobulans also have very long tongues, and they use tongue scrapers. Denobulan males have a line of hair down the middle of their chest, up to their throat. Denobulans also have a unique ability to enlarge their face. This is an instinct for when they feel threatened.
LOCATION: Edos II - 92 Trianguli-Rho system - Beta Quadrant
- The Edosians, also known as Edoans, are a species native to planet Edos, located in the 92 Trianguli-Rho system. First contact with the Edosians seems to have occurred at some point before 2161, prior to the formation of the UFP. The Edosians are known for having three arms, each with three fingers, and three legs. Their skin color can range from orange to purple, with small scales trailing across their skin. All Edosians are bald, regardless of gender, and their genetics allow for black or yellow irises. They are quite strong despite their relatively slender build: a single blow from an Edosian's fist is capable of breaking a desk in half. Additionally, they can emit a guttural roar when angered.
LOCATION:Efros (Flarset IV) - Flarset system -
- Efrosians are similar in appearance to Klingons but compared to Klingons, their cranial ridges are less distinguished. Varying shades of blue eyes and white hair are most common. Skin tones ranged from medium to dark tan. Males are typically seen wearing long hair flowing mustaches. They have bad eyesight which is compensated with a heightened sense of smell. Despite this eyesight, they have a wider range of vision than Terrans. As well as this, they are well known for their sense of direction as a result of the heavy snowstorms native to Efros.
LOCATION: Ezoria - Delarius System - Sector V12 - Beta Quadrant
Ezoria’s primary Federation-facing population includes the Ezoria’Maa’kae—bald, leathery-skinned, greenish-brown amphibious humanoids with palmed hands/feet and twin nasal slits—alongside the Kal’e’kae, a dolphin-like native people. While most Ezoria’Maa’kae are not telepathic, they’re uniquely “attuned” to Kal’e’kae communication.
Ezoria has been a UFP member since 2422 and is governed through 25 vocational Guilds and a rotating Circle of Houses, with a popularly chosen First Ambassador serving as head of state. Their spiritual-philosophical tradition (Mae’lu Aleem) and the Ezorian Cantos shape education, diplomacy, and cultural identity—especially for Ezoria’Maa’kae, an offshoot of Tamarians believed to have arrived via Preservers.

LOCATION: Ferenginar IV - Ferenginar system & sector - Alpha Quadrant
- The Ferengi Alliance is an interstellar power governed by the rules of capitalism which placed a sacred importance on commerce and on the honoring of contractual obligations. While not militaristic, most Ferengi trading ships are armed and quite capable of self-defense. The largest commercial transports in the Alliance have armament comparable to warships of the first rate. The current Ferengi culture dates back some ten thousand years, it was at this time that Gint came to power.
- The first of the Ferengi world leaders, called the Grand Nagus, Gint codified a set of over 285 'Rules of Acquisition', a code of honour by which all Ferengi males are expected to live. The rules of acquisition heavily emphasize the accumulation of personal wealth, although some rules relate to general ethics. All Ferengi males are expected to memorize the rules at an early age. The Ferengi Alliance became a Federation Protectorate in the early 2420's and in 2427 became full members of the United Federation of Planets.
LOCATION: Furjen III - Hirt System - Beta Quadrant
Furjen’s native sentients (Gnalish) are hardy reptiloid peoples consistent with other Gnalish entries—physiology notes emphasize resilience and adaptation to regional environments.
Furjen is a UFP member world with a constitutional-democratic government, notable public-works investment, and vibrant civic festivals (Boat Festival, Autumn Festival, Feast of Fertility). Its modern era is shaped by industrialization and a longstanding rivalry with neighboring Manark V.
- NOTE: Created by Andy Catterick
LOCATION: GELRAK V - Gelraki system - Alpha Quadrant
Gelrakians are green-skinned humanoids with sharp teeth and red blood; physically they present as robust, crystalline-affiliated folk in Canonical depictions.
LOCATION: Xora IV - Gnali system - Beta Quadrant
The Gnalish are large, reptiloid humanoids adapted to a dense, high-gravity world: males often exceed two meters, possess gold-based blood and a five-chambered heart, and they give live birth; their biology reflects engineered/terraform origins in ASR files.
Society is hierarchical and xenophobic with elaborate noble customs (ceremonial orange robes embroidered with deeds) and strict reproductive laws (twins early in adulthood followed by mandated sterilization). Politically they combine broad civic participation with rite-based multiple-vote structures.
- NOTE: Created by Michael J. Friedman, adapted for ASR by D'Maris Coffman
LOCATION: Grazer III - Grazer system - Graniz Tias Sector - Alpha Quadrant
Grazerites are bovine-featured humanoids with furred hides, a furrowed brow, short curving horns, and a pronounced snout. They require relatively little sleep compared with many species and are typically taller than many humanoid species.
LOCATION: Halii II - Halii system - Beta Quadrant
Haliians are soft-featured humanoids distinguished by cranial energy-receptive nodes (often misidentified as “symbiont pockets”), slightly iridescent skin tones, and a natural psionic sensitivity to emotional fields. They have a heightened tactile-empathic sense tied to intentional touch.
LOCATION: Hamal IV - Alpha Arietis system - Alpha Quadrant
Hamalki are crystalline arthropodiform beings with gemlike exoskeletons, multi-limb symmetry, and refractive ocular clusters. A typical Hamalki is a meter tall and has twelve legs attached to a rounded central abdomen. They communicate via harmonic resonance and crystalline vibration rather than vocal speech.
LOCATION: Hoduras IV - Hoduras system - T3291-Epsilon sector - Alpha Quadrant)
Hodurians are tall, hairless humanoids with elongated heads, spindly fingers, translucent albino skin, enlarged black eyes adapted to subterranean darkness, and a bioluminescent abdominal “node.” They are fatally sensitive to sunlight without full-body protection.
Their society developed underground in vast cavern-cities, governed by a bicameral Parliament with hereditary Emirates in the Upper House. Strong religious traditions tied to the planet’s molten core (“The Depths”) shape social identity and discourage offworld settlement. After complex interactions with Ferengi and UFP powers, Hoduras joined the Federation in 2348, though it remains a “fair-weather member” with overall low Star Fleet participation and persistent cultural isolationism.
- NOTE: Created by James Braun
LOCATION: Janus VI - Janus system - Andorian sector - Beta Quadrant
- The Horta are one of the few silicon based life forms known. They feed on rock, and thus they were nourished just by tunneling. Horta tunneled through rock like most humanoids walked through air, moving with the aid of an extremely corrosive acid. They leave perfectly round tunnels in their wake. The Horta species possesse an unusually long life span and can live in the vacuum of space for a short period of time.
LOCATION:
- A humanoid species found in the Alpha Quadrant and native to the planet Ktaria VII. The Ktarians are recognizable by their distinctive foreheads, which are divided into two large bone like structures, and by their yellow eyes. Ktarians have scales on some parts of their bodies, and at least some Ktarian/Human hybrids have several small horns on their forehead. Ktarian children grow far faster than their Human equivalents.
- The Ktarians had a delegate present at the Coalition of Planets talks on Earth in 2155. In 2368, the Ktarians tried to gain control of Star Fleet. They created a type of mind control technology disguised as the highly addictive "Ktarian game" but their efforts were thwarted by the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-D crew. By the 2370s, the Ktarians were officially with the Federation, but sympathized with the Maquis.
LOCATION: Kaminar
- Kelpiens are a humanoid species, one of two sentient species on the planet, along with the Ba'ul, with whom they had a complicated relationship. Empathy was a defining trait hardwired in the Kelpien DNA. Like other humanoid species in the galaxy, the evolution of Kelpiens was influenced by the Progenitors. Kelpiens have a tall, lanky build, brownish orange skin, and no head hair, although males at least could grow facial hair at an advanced age. Tendril-like threat ganglia splayed out from the back of a Kelpien's head when they sensed danger. Female Kelpiens typically exhibited smoother skin than males. Evolving as the prey species on Kaminar, Kelpiens have heightened senses and hyper-vigilance in order to detect approaching danger and flee from it. Besides having more developed senses, Kelpiens have exceptional physical strength and stamina relative to Humans.
LOCATION:
- A felinoid race that mirrors some of the larger feline species on Terra, such as the lynx, rather than the more domesticated appearance of the Caitians and Sivaoans. They are extremely war-like, having refines their craft over the centuries of open warfare with the Kzinti.
LOCATION:
- The Pakleds are a rotund humanoid species native to a planet known to them as Pakled Planet, located in the Alpha Quadrant in the Alor Dinil Sector. The Great Auction of ‘2305 was an event in Pakled and Ferengi history. This was a famous action in which the Ferengi outbid the Pakled during the sale that allowed access to Iconian quantum-decoupler technology which was by being sold by the Breen. First contact between the Federation and Pakleds took place in 2365, when the USS Enterprise-D answered a distress signal from a Pakled transport, the MONDOR.
- To the casual observer the Pakleds appear to be intellectually challenged, especially in their verbal skills. However, despite the marked lack of intellect they proved to be far more cunning than they appeared, and used their innocuous appearance to deceive other races. The Pakleds had an unusual and rather incoherent system of government that served more to baffle and frustrate diplomats than it did effectively govern the species. They were at one time ruled by an emperor, followed by a subordinate king, then queen. They had a rudimentary class system where an individual's status was indicated by the size of their helmet. Pakleds are a heavy-set, rotund, lethargic humanoid scavenger species noted for their apparently underdeveloped verbal communication skills. However, they used this, as well as their simple-looking appearance, to deceive other races. Their most striking features, aside from size, are bushy upswept brows, heavily bagged eyes and a "dewlap" bottom lip. They do not have any religious beliefs. To them you are born, you live and then you die. While alive you enjoy yourself and when you’re gone the best thing to do is to jettison the body out the closest air lock. On their home world the dead are dumped into the nearest active volcano.
LOCATION:
- The Risians or Risans are a humanoid species noted for their hedonistic approach to life. They are native to the Federation planet Risa in the Epsilon Ceti system, Beta Quadrant approximately 93 light years from Sol. The Risians physically closely resembled Humans of Terra, apart from their most distinguishing external feature being a small, button-like ridge or ornamentation on their foreheads. Despite this similarity in appearance, their internal physiology differed significantly from that of Humans.
- Centuries ago, the Risians tamed the earthquakes and rainstorms of their homeworld by installing seismic regulators and a weather control system. By the mid-22nd century, Risa had become well-known as a cosmopolitan vacation destination across both the Alpha and Beta quadrants where weapons of any kind are forbidden. The Risa Hedony was admitted to the Federation in 2249.
LOCATION:
- The Sivaoan people are another felinoid species who tend to form a more tribal community at home than most Federation races. Their actions are marked by the insistence of addressing everyone by his or her full names, as addressing one by less implies a more intimate relationship than most Sivaoans are comfortable with. Peaceful by nature, but bold and courageous when needed. Many Sivaoan are noted for exceptional memory talents, bordering on that of 'photographic memories'.
LOCATION:
- The Trill, or Trills, are a humanoid species native to the planet Trill in the Alpha Quadrant. A small percentage of the Trill population harbored a sentient lifeform known as a symbiont inside their bodies, a symbiotic relationship that played a significant role in Trill culture and society. Such "joined" Trill had personalities that are a synthesis of the two beings, and could access the memories and skills of previous hosts. After the death of the Hosts the Symbiont is removed and placed into a new Host, carrying into the new joining all the personality and memories of the old. Many Symbionts have lived in this manner for centuries, accumulating experiences from many different lifetimes. The Symbionts are small, sluglike creatures who live underwater for most of their life. The Symbionts are extremely long lived and very intelligent, but lack any kind of limbs or tool-using ability.
LOCATION:
- The Vissians are a highly advanced and passionately curious humanoid species native to the planet Vissia in the Vissia system, located in the Beta Quadrant and Donatu Sector. The Vissians have had a fairly peaceful history, one with no internal wars, conflicts or revolutions to mar there peaceful search for new knowledge. They expanded to cover the entirety of their world, developed swiftly but surely with quick advances in agriculture, building and transportation. They mastered warp technology in the 12th century and did not expand, content to explore and discover everything they could about their tiny corner of the universe before they ventured out any further in to it.
- Vissians are typical humanoids distinguishable by crescent-shaped, segmented ridges circling their eyes on the side of their heads in the region known as the temple. Other than that they come in a variety of sizes, shapes and hair color just like humans. Unusually (for Human standards) the Vissians had three genders: Male, female, and cogenitor. The third gender make up only 3% of the population and were treated as inferior, existing only for facilitating reproduction between males and females with all 3 genders being necessary for successful reproduction.
- The Xindi (pronounced "ZIN-dee") are a group of six sentient species who all evolved on Xindus, a planet in the Delphic Expanse. The species that survived the Xindi Civil War were governed by the Xindi Council. In the early 2150s, the Xindi Council committed an infamous attack on Earth and made repeated attempts to terminate Humans, which changed the course of history and initiated a series of events that helped establish United Earth as a major interstellar power. UFP relations remain strong across all Xindi species and as of the late 2300s there are multiple Xindi serving in both Star Fleet and Federation positions. By the year 2410, the Xindi have been a long-time member of the Federation. Their new home planet, Azati Prime, is located in the Delphic Expanse in the Beta Quadrant.
- Six different intelligent species developed on Xindus; one of them, the Xindi-Avians, was believed extinct by the 2150s, as the result of a brutal civil war between the six species that destroyed the planet. (ENT: "The Shipment") The surviving species were united under the governance of the Xindi Council, which contained two representatives from each species. (ENT: "The Xindi", et al.) The five remaining species are:
- Xindi-Aquatics - A non-humanoid race that evolved to live underwater. Unlike the Reptilians and the Insectoids, the Aquatics were complicated and enigmatic and are known to over-analyze, taking an excruciatingly long period of time to come to decisions.
- Xindi-Arboreals - In appearance, Arboreals are covered with hair (at least their hands and heads were) and had long, sharp fingernails, dark eyes, and a ridge running from their noses to the back of their heads. They are the most peaceful of the 6 species.
- Xindi-Avians - The Xindi-Avian species was an extinct member of the Xindi race, wiped out during the Xindi Civil War which was fought between the six Xindi species and which destroyed their homeworld in 2033. As far as known, none of the Avians fled before their homeworld was destroyed due to inadequate technology.
- Xindi-Insectoids - The Insectoids, like all Xindi species, had distinctive ridges on their cheeks. Their average life expectancy was estimated to be twelve years, are genderless and reproduced asexually.
- Xindi-Primates - The Primates are ape-like and they, more than any other Xindi species, resembled "traditional" humanoids. In common with Humans, they had skin that varied in complexion and most of the Primates had ten fingers. They had, like all Xindi, distinctive ridges on their cheek bones. They also had larger foreheads but no eyebrows. The Primates were generally seen as fair, honest, and trustworthy by other Xindi.
- Xindi-Reptilians - Xindi-Reptilian faces are scaly and highly textured, including many small wrinkles and ridges. The Reptilians had yellow to brown-colored scales with multiple spikes coming out of their heads and little tusks, one on either side of the face, protruding from close to the mouth. They had yellow eyes with slitted vertical pupils, and are cold blooded and easily the most aggressive of the six species.
- The Zakdorn are a sentient, humanoid species, from the Zakdorn system in the Beta Quadrant, Abin Zak Sector. The Zakdorn homeworld was a Federation member. Soon after first contact with the Federation starship USS Gandhi, the Zakdorn became members of the United Federation of Planets in 2344. Known for their pretentious and fussy demeanors, they are nevertheless valued allies, contributing their famed tactical expertise to the defence of the Federation. Historically, other races have been so fearful of the Zakdorn reputation for tactical supremacy that no-one has dared attack them; many Klingons therefore sneer at the reputation, dismissing it as "untested". The Zakdorn had a distinct appearance, with three pouches of thick, fibrous tissue on both of their cheeks. Their general appearance was humanoid, with two arms, two legs, and a head with two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.

OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>MODERATE<<
LOCATION: Areolus IV - Kallas system - Alpha Quadrant
Six-limbed ornithoid humanoids with wings and feathers; owl-like faces with hooked beaks and large eyes, egg-laying reproduction, and fast-flying agility. The Areore possess a similar morphology to the Aurelians.
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >LOW<
LOCATION: Epsilon Mynos system (Quadrant unknown)
Aldeans are humanoids very similar to Humans; their planet was hidden behind a massive, automated cloak/shield/repulsor defense network run by the “Custodian.”
Aldea’s long isolation caused severe environmental and chromosomal damage, leaving the population infertile by 2364—prompting an attempted “child trade” with the Enterprise-D before Federation medicine offered a path to reversal.
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>MODERATE<<
LOCATION: Alpha Quadrant (unconfirmed; quadrant not stated in Canon—encountered on Tulgana IV)
Known primarily from a 2380-era encounter on Tulgana IV; information on their species is otherwise thin, but their infiltration-adjacent abilities make them worth a closer look in any security context.
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>Low-Moderate<<
LOCATION: Alpha or Beta Quadrant
They have a documented, bitter legacy of Denobulan-initiated campaigns and lingering interspecies prejudice lasting into the 22nd century, with reconciliation apparently incomplete.
LOCATION: Antede III - Beta Quadrant
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>Low-Moderate<<
Piscine-like humanoids whose minds are highly susceptible to telepathic reading; they often endure spaceflight by entering a self-induced catatonic state and then require large quantities of food afterward.
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>LOW<<
Anticans are large, furry, canine-like humanoids; strongly carnivorous, with a cultural preference for eating meat alive, and known to wield small weapons that project a short energy blade.
In 2364, both the Anticans and their rivals the Selay applied for UFP membership; Star Fleet involvement focused on de-escalating their long-standing interplanetary hostility as part of the admission process.

- The Borg are a collective of cybernetically enhanced humanoids. The Borg expand their sphere of influence by attacking and assimilating entire worlds into the collective. First contact between the Borg and the Federation came in 2365 as a result of the actions of Q. The first Borg attack on Earth came in 2367 and was repelled. The android Lore led a group of Borg on a series of attack against the Federation in 2369. The Borg made a second attempt to assimilate Earth in 2373 and were repelled. The Borg then invaded the Romulan Star Empire, assimilating several worlds on the anti-spinward side of the Empire and launching several series of attacks against the Romulan Star Empire between 2398 and 2406. In 2406, they pushed out of Romulan Territory and again attacked the Federation at SB Gamma. That attack was repelled by a joint Federation-Romulan force. In 2407, the Borg withdrew from Romulan space. Little has been heard from the Borg since 2419, though they are still classified as a high threat level power.

LOCATION: Boskia III - Cthosis sector - Beta Quadrant
The Boslic are a humanoid species with at least two common morphologies: one with a smoother brow/forehead structure, and another with ridged foreheads, wrinkled noses, and creased cheekbones. Unlike many spacefaring peoples, they don’t appear to suffer adverse psychological effects from spending their lives in deep space; most are notably well-adjusted and steady-minded. They also lack any widely established religious tradition.

- The Breen are a spacefaring humanoid species native to the planet Breen in the Alpha Quadrant. Notoriously reclusive and warlike, the Breen are a formidable power in their region of the galaxy. They almost always wore refrigeration suits that entirely concealed their bodies. Even by the 24th century, much was still unknown about the Breen and their government, known as the Breen Confederacy. The Federation had limited knowledge of the Breen until shortly before the Dominion War. Currently the Federation and Breen remain neutral powers as diplomatic endeavors continuously fail to improve relations. As such, the Confederacy is classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation.

- Cardassians are easily recognized by their light-gray skin, two thick neck ridges, and an inverted tear-shaped forehead ridge, which gave them the nickname "spoon heads." Some also have a similar chest ridge. Known for photographic memories and an arrogant, xenophobic attitude akin to Romulans, they became formidable adversaries.
- Originally peaceful, Cardassia Prime's overpopulation led to military expansion for resources. This culminated in the 2328 annexation of Bajor. The Federation opposed further expansion, leading to a truce in 2366. Throughout the Alpha Quadrant, Cardassians earned a ruthless reputation. Their 2373 alliance with the Dominion made them major enemies of the Federation and Klingon Empire. Currently, due to internal volatility, they are classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation.

- The Crystalline Entity, a massive and unique lifeform with a deceptive delicacy, blindly and insatiably fed on life-force and planetary resources. It could devastate a world in minutes, using a pulverizing energy-beam conversion process similar to an electromagnetic collector. The first Crystalline Entity encountered by the Federation was responsible for thousands of deaths in the 24th century, until it was destroyed by the USS Enterprise-D in 2368. By 2381, more Crystalline Entities were known to Star Fleet, looking rather like an enormous yet sinister sknowflake.
- The Entity functioned as a giant electromagnetic collector and needed constant power, converting organic matter into energy. Once the Entity ravaged a planet, the planet's natural resources were completely stripped. No further life would be able to grow for many years. Everything, including vegetation and bacteria, was completely converted. Bitrious matter was usually deposited in the Entity's wake, as were elevated levels of hydrocarbons, lanthanides, and nitrates. The Entity was unable to penetrate rock lined with both kelbonite and fistrium. Both metals needed to be present in order to refract the Entity's absorption power. The shields of a Galaxy-class starship were also impervious to the Entity.
- In 2380 the USS Titan encountered more Crystalline Entites while investigating the Gum Nebula region. The Entities were one of many spacegoing life forms which formed an ecosystem in the area, and considered to be one of the more dangerous. As with many dangerous spacegoing life forms, the Crystalline Entities were hunted by the alliance led by the Pa'haquel, who referred to them as "Branchers". Thanks to the crew of the Titan, the Pa'haquel instead took to using Space Jellyfish to corral and control the Crystalline Entities, using them to hunt other harmful spacegoing life forms.
- No contact with a Crystalline Entity has been reported since 2380, though given their aggressive hostility, they are classified as a high-level threat to the Federation.

LOCATION: Multi-System - Alpha Quadrant
- The Dalriadan Alliance is a multi-species cooperative built around the core words of the Star Kingdom of Dalriada. The Alliance border reaches its closest point to Federation claimed space a mere 30 light years away from Starbase Omega. The Alliance is the largest (known and contacted) government native to the region coreward of the Federation, numbering over 200 star systems. The Dalriada themselves are a group of homo sapiens native to this region of the Alpha Quadrant. The Federation does not know how they got here, although biological evidence collected from those who have visited Starbase Omega indicates they are indeed homo sapiens, and therefore probably came from Earth at some point in the past.
- Their technological development level is on par with the Federation, but derives from a somewhat different base. This meant that when open war erupted between the Federation and the Alliance in 2410 the Federation was not be prepared to handle Dalriadan warships. Although the war lasted less than two weeks before a cease fire was agreed upon, though a formal treaty was not reached until 2412, the Dalriada had proven their point to the Federation. Interference in traditional patterns of trade in the region and the Dalriadan economy would not be tolerated. In truth, the Alliance and Federation have much in common. They are both collections of approximately 200 semi-independent worlds which have united together, freely, for mutual defense and security. Both powers value individual rights and freedoms. However, while the Federation has developed a largely socialist model where money has little value to most of its citizens, the Dalriadan Alliance is fiercely capitalistic. While the Alliance has limited government-sponsored services, the individual is financially responsible for the majority of their own needs. Even though this has the potential for wide-spread poverty and hunger, the average quality of life in the Alliance is actually higher than that in the Federation.

LOCATION: El-Auria - El-Aurian system - Delta Quadrant
- Externally, the El-Aurians were physically identical to Humans, in structure and even the range of racial phenotypes. A long-lived race of "listeners", they possessed perceptive abilities that extended beyond the normal space-time continuum. The El-Aurians were a widely traveled people who spread themselves across many parts of the galaxy and beyond. At least one El-Aurian, Guinan, visited Earth in 1893, before Humans had any common knowledge of alien species.
- Around 2265, this species was the victim of a major attack by the Borg, with all but a handful of El-Aurians being assimilated or killed by the Borg, and all El-Aurian cities being destroyed by them. By resisting when the Borg came to assimilate them, the El-Aurians defied their attackers' motto that "resistance is futile." When Guinan's homeworld was destroyed by the Borg, the El-Aurian species was scattered throughout the universe but nevertheless prevailed. By 2368, there were still very few El-Aurians left, due to the Borg, and those who were still alive remained scattered throughout the galaxy, with no collective home any more. As a nomadic people, El-Aurians are collectively considered a low-level threat to the Federation.

- The term 'Fardons' refers to the Terran Standard transliteration (and pronunciation) of the self-described 'Echen F'don' which they equate in Terran standard to 'Fardon Empire.' The Fardons are a technologically modern space-faring empire with discernible territorial ambitions on several systems in Federation Space. Because the exact location and extent of Fardon space are still unknown, it is impossible to judge reliably if the empire is, in economic terms, satiated. While expansion is the most straightforward explanation for their territorial aims, it is at least conceivable that seizing a few key systems would be of considerable political value to fuel that which appears to be an imperial renascence (harkening back to the 'classical' Fardon period from 4500-1500 B.C. Terran time).

LOCATION: Ferasa VI - Danjika system - Klingon Empire - Beta Quadrant
- The Ferasans are a felinoid species native to the planet Ferasa and closely related to the Caitians. They have darker soft fur coats when compared to Caitians and had tails that assisted their balance. Their species had large eyes that assisted with night vision and held felinoid ears that are able to pick up frequencies that other humanoids were unable to hear. Ferasans had extended canine teeth along with large eyes. Some of them were noted for their telepathic abilities.
- Though similar to the Caitians, the Ferasans were actually the products of a genetic engineering program. The species considers themselves superior to their parent species, though at some point, the Ferasans were actually unified with the Caitian species. Their development came after an extensive genetic engineering program that greatly modified the genome of the Ferasans. As of 2409, the Ferasan people are a servitor species of the Klingon Empire though generally are amicable to the UFP and stay out of interstellar politics.

- The Gorn are a warp-capable, bipedal and highly aggressive reptilian species. Gorn are a cold-blooded species, with green, rubbery skin, red blood, and an average height of approximately two meters. They tended to be many times stronger than most humanoids, overall possessing strength and dexterity similar to that of Vulcans. They, like most cold-blooded species, preferred warmer temperatures and hated the cold. Their society is divided into two major governments:
- Gorn Hegemony- A smaller but more dangerous faction that seceded from the Confederacy about 75 years ago. They operate in clans, with the most dominant (i.e. strongest) clan represented by the Hegemon. As their worlds are mineral-poor (not naturally- they have long since stripped their worlds of their natural resources), they have fought a number of aggressive skirmishes and wars in the recent past, against both the Tholians and the Federation, in an attempt to secure natural resources for their military needs.

In 2154, Doctor Antaak referred to the Augment virus afflicting the Klingon Empire as "the greatest threat since the Hur'q invasion." Among the most valuable artifacts stolen by the Hur'q was the Sword of Kahless, which was only recovered a thousand years later, in 2372. By that year, the Hur'q race was believed to be extinct. The Tzenkethi, who referred to the Hur'q as "Drantzuli", embarked on a crusade against the creatures using protomatter weapons to "purify" any planets where their eggs were found. Little is known regarding their culture or physiology of the species.

- The Husnock were first encountered in 2361 by USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-D (Captain Jean Luc Picard, commanding) when it responded to a distress call from the colony on Delta Rana IV. ENTERPRISE found the colony destroyed with the exception of 2 humans, Kevin and Rishon Uxbridge. The two claimed the colony was destroyed by a race called the Husnock but could not explain how they had been spared. It was discovered that Kevin Uxbridge was not human but was instead a Douwd, a race with Q-like powers. He admitted to destroying the Husnock raiders and 'killing all of them, everywhere' in a fit or rage.
- The Husnock were first encountered by SILVER Fleet in 2409 when USS FEYNMAN (Zane, commanding) discovered a derelict Husnock warship. The warship was salvaged and contact was made with the ship's artificial intelligence. The ship, renamed DEFENDER OF HOJI was later used to route an invading Xanthandi war fleet, as a temporary base of command for SILVER after it was expelled from Cait and finally as a Flagship for Admiral Azariah Nicholas. Information in the HOJI's log located a derelict Husnock base which was salvaged and converted into the current SB EPSILON. And additional Husnock facility is located in the Coalsack Nebula.
- First discovered by USS VALIANT (Killian Maguire, commanding) this base is home to five distinct Husnock AI each with a differing view on humanity and its allies. On several occasions they have 'captured' Federation vessels for 'investigative purposes'. All that is left of the Husnock Empire are derelict ships and facilities. It appears that the Husnock relied heavily on artificial intelligence and computers and they are all that is left of the warrior race. Each AI has a distinct personality and intelligence level. Some are happy to work with Star Fleet such as the AI that 'inhabited' the base that was converted to SB EPSILON, while others are very distrustful of the Federation and humanity in general. The Husnock are considered a low-level threat to the Federation.

Historically considered to be conquerors they were wiped out by war and their homeworld destroyed by orbital bombardment more than 200,000 years ago. Ancient texts called the Iconians "Demons of Air and Darkness", who were said to have the ability to appear at will on far-flung planets without the use of starships. Later this was found to be a reference to the Iconians' gateway technology, whose instant teleportation allowed them to establish outposts at least as far as Vandros IV in the Gamma Quadrant. Until the discovery of Iconia in the Beta Quadrant in 2365, the Iconians were still dismissed by many as nothing more than myth.

LOCATION: Multi-System Empire - SILVER Fleet Area of Operations
- The Issahi are a race of lizards that resemble the Velociraptor of Earth. They are a warlike race that live by a strict code. Central to this code is a multi-level caste system. Each caste is denoted by specific colour markings on the Issahi skin. (Red for warriors, Green for scholars etc). The highest caste is the warrior caste. Membership to a caste is determined at birth by the colour markings. It is unusual for offspring to have the same markings as its parents. On occasion offspring will be born with the markings of another caste. In such instances the offspring is immediately killed by its parents. If the markings donate a lower caste then that of the parents it is considered an ill omen and in this instance a ritual killing of the offspring must be performed to 'cleanse' the family.
First contact with the Isshai was made in 2409 when they sent a human representative, martin Ross, to the newly established Starbase EPSILON. Ross had been found, and claimed, as a child on a colony ship that had strayed into Issahi space and been attacked thirty years earlier. (Ross ahd been the only survivor). Meeting with the current CINCSILVER at the time, Vice Admiral Azariah Nicholas, Ross presented Nicholas with the Sword of Costales and formerly requested Federation help against the Reavers. Ross also presented proof that the Reavers had been responsible for the destruction of USS SERAPIS six motnhs earlier. This meeting saw the beginning of an uneasy alliance based on political expedience between the Issahi and the Federation.

LOCATION: Qo'noS (Kronos) - Klingon Empire - Beta Quadrant
- Physically, the Klingons are large and burly bipeds, with a large cranial ridge that extends down the back, protecting the spinal column. Klingons have a bony backbone resembling that of a dinosaur runs up and down their spine. They cannot cry, even if they wanted to - they have no tear ducts. Klingons have enhanced senses - three of them, acute taste, smell, and vision, are genetic, but the third, combat reflexes, is learned from childhood, and is therefore second nature to Klingons. They are larger than Terrans with a greater percentage of their body weight being muscle. They often have long, black hair, with the males adding a beard as a symbol of strength- something the Klingon culture, as a warrior race, values second only to honor.
- Due to a failed attempt at genetic manipulation in the mid 22nd century, there are two distinct sub-species of Klingons. One significantly resembles Terrans in appearance, while the other possess the cranial ridges with enhanced stature and senses.
Encompassing nearly half a million square light years of space, the Klingon Empire is a large interstellar empire dominated by a single species, but also includes many conquered servitor species. The government is largely oligarchical with the Emperor as little more than a figurehead for the most powerful families of the Empire.
Over the centuries, the UFP and Empire have been strong allies, fierce enemies and everything in between, and as such the Empire is considered a low-moderate threat level to the Federation.

LOCATION: Kzin - Kzinti system - Beta Quadrant
- The Kzinti (singular, Kzin) are a warrior race of sentient feline carnivores. In appearance, they are much like bipedal Terran tigers with a naked, rat-like tail and large, bare fan-like ears. The Kzinti were enthusiastic carnivores who disdained other sentient species, such as Vulcans, that used only plants for sustenance. Female kzinti, also referred to as Kzinrett (plural Kzinretti) were only semi-intelligent, having long since been bred into sub-sapience by the Patriarchy, and were kept closely guarded in harems and treated as little more than chattel by the males. Only Kzinti males, or Kzintosh (pl. Kzintoshi), who had earned unique names through great deeds were permitted to acquire mates. While it was easy, and in fact common, to assume that Kzinti were related to other felinoid races such as Caitians, Vedala, Sivaoans, Eeiauoans, Ferasans, or M'dok, there was no documented proof of any common ancestry with the Kzinti beyond the possibility of common seeding resulting from the Preservers.
- In the days before warp drive, the Kzinti ruled an interstellar empire. It spanned more than thirty light years, and a number of slave races. In 2049, the Kzinti finally met a species that did not fall before their advance: humans. Over the next decades, the Kzinti and humans fought a total of four wars. By the last war in 2064, the Kzinti had assembled a huge fleet that would have been able to smash any human opposition, save one factor. By that time, they fought a human species that had discovered warp drive. Human ships were able to dart in and out around the Kzinti fleet, allowing hit-and-run tactics which the Kzinti warships could not match with only sublight drives. Following the Man-Kzin Wars, the Kzinti Patriarchy is forced to adapt to life without their slave races and within the limits imposed by the victorious humans. They generally become isolationist, choosing to maintain their own ways on Kzin and their colony worlds, which are not within much easier reach due to warp travel. The Kzinti Republic is classified as a low-level threat to the Federation.

- Lurians are a Humanoid species native to the alpha quadrant. Externally they are slightly larger than Humans; their skin tends to be rough textured and brown in colour. The average Lurian stood approximately two meters tall, but had a much broader and heavier body. Lurians were grayish- or tan-skinned. Their most noteworthy feature was their narrow, elongated heads. They had wide mouths, puggish noses, and small, deep-set eyes. They normally have hair on their bodies, but some Lurians have been known to become bald when poisoned by exposure to Latinum. Lurians have two stomachs, multiple hearts, and four lungs.
- The Lurian government is a monarchy. The Lurian people tend to be highly talkative and excitable. They generally have large families - eighteen siblings is not unusual for a Lurian family. They are typically a sedentary people, rarely seen outside of the Ionite Nebula region. - A race of powerful incorporeal beings, the Organians are composed of pure energy and thought. Native to the planet Organia, in the Prinos Omegas system, the Vrede Sector in the Beta Quadrant - located in an non-aligned region between the UFP and Klingon Empire. The Organians demonstrated a number of abilities. As beings of pure thought, they were either immortal or extremely long-lived. They were also able to occupy the bodies of humanoid hosts and were able to inhabit, animate, and resurrect the dead.
- They abhor violence but also dislike becoming involved in the affairs of lesser evolved species. However, the Organians felt they had no choice but to intervene when they imposed the peace treaty in 2267 – they simply could not watch idly as the Federation and the Klingons slaughtered each other and perhaps others. In general, the Organians found the discordant emotions of less-evolved beings highly painful. As no contact has been reported since that year, the Organians are classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.

- The Orions were a warp-capable humanoid species who originated from the planet Orion in the Orion system, Beta Quadrant. The majority of Orions were known for their distinctive green skin, which could feature yellowish to bluish undertones and range from a pale green to a deep hunter green. They usually had green or black hair, though as a personal choice many males were bald. The females tend to be approximately the same size as Human women but Orion males tend to be much larger and far stronger than most Humanoids.
- The Orion sphere of influence is a loose connection of independent governments contained within the Federation Treaty Expansion Territory and bordering on the Klingon Empire. The Orions have a strong mercantile tradition; however, they also have an equally strong military tradition and are fiercely independent. The Klingons have attempted to invade the region only to be defeated by to hit and run tactics employed by the Orions. Federation attempts to unify the territory and include it in their sphere have met with similar resistance by the Orion Syndicate, a quasi military force and a well known haven for pirates, a moderate threat level to the Federation. However, the Orion Free Traders Guild, the recognized governing body, a loose association of prominent traders, conducts commerce with many UFP worlds and are considered a low-level threat to the Federation.

- Little is known about this insectoid race which was first encountered in 2409 after the Issahi requested Star Fleet assistance to stem an invasion. (Circumstantial evidence points to Reaver scouts destroying USS SERAPIS in 2406). The Reavers seem to resemble insects in more than just their appearance. Besides looking like 5 foot ants they have a very strict caste system with various levels being clearly defined by coloured markings on their torso's. The warrior caste seems to be the prevalent denomination with all over sects servicing them. The one exception being the leadership. Reavers see all other races as vermin that must be exterminated. They are ruthless in their pursuit of this goal and it seems to be their one objective. Technologically inferior to the Federation their strength lies in their numbers and their tactic of swarming. It is not known if they have a homeworld. All indications point to several large groupings or hives slowly making their way through the galaxy. Should the Issahi Dominion fall the Federation will lie clearly in their path. Captured Reaver vessels have determined that they strip worlds and vessels of all they need to sustain themselves including other races for food. Though contact is rare, the Reavers are classified as a low-moderate threat to the Federation.

- The Remans (pronounced Ree-man) were the humanoid inhabitants native to the planet Remus, a species characterized by their distinct facial features, pale skin and pointed ears. Remans possess great physical strength and agility, and are capable of enduring intense physical exertion for long periods of time. They are also notable for their telepathic abilities. Reman telepathy allows them to communicate with each other over long distances, and also to read the thoughts and emotions of other species. However, their telepathic abilities are not well understood by other races, and as a result, they are often feared and mistrusted.
- As a slave caste, Remans were not allowed to participate in Romulan society and were often subjected to harsh and dangerous working conditions in the dilithium mines of their homeworld Remus, and also served as shock troops for the Star Empire during the Dominion War. After the destruction of Romulus and Remus in 2387, intelligence indicates less than 1 million Reman survived and joined the exodus to Mol'Rihan (New Romulus). As with their Romulan counterparts, the Remans are considered a moderate-high threat to the Federation.

- The Rihannsu people control over half a million square light years of space, the Romulan Free State is a large interstellar empire dominated by a single species. While slightly larger that the Klingon Empire in terms of total volume of space dominated the Romulans control fewer systems because stars are less dense in the region spanned by the Star Empire. Moreover, the Romulan systems tend to be mineral poor. From a physiological standpoint, they are distant cousins to Vulcans, making them similar in makeup, if not attitude- they tend to be emotional and clever (if not downright sneaky) people. Though in the midst of an ongoing civil war, Star Fleet has had numerous allied encounters with the forces of the Tal Diann, often resulting in mutual assistance. However, forces loyal to the Praetor and Tal Shiar have repeatedly soured and diplomatic ties are all but non-existent and as such the Free State as a whole are considered a moderate-high threat to the Federation.
- NOTE: Should the Tal Diann successfully execute a takeover of the Praetor and Senate, a new era of peace and alliance would emerge, one not seen since the height of the Dominion War.

- The Sheliak were an intelligent non-humanoid classification R-3 lifeform whose homeworld was located in the Shelia star system. They are only vaguely Humanoid themselves as the Sheliak hide their physical form under a concealing garment when contacting Humanoids making their true form a mystery. There are indications that they may have at least a slight degree of shape shifting ability - the constant movement of their body under the garment indicates that their external shape is somewhat variable. This, however, is purely speculative at present. A powerful and mysterious life form, the Sheliak have a tendency to regard other species - especially Humanoid species - as inferior. They were warp-capable and their governing body was called the Sheliak Corporate. Unlike most humanoids, the Sheliak preferred to exist in an environment that was the same temperature as that of their bodies.
- The Federation signed the Treaty of Armens with the Sheliak in 2255 and thus have been classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.

- Sidhe Imperium- Little concrete information is known about the enigmatic Sidhe (pronounced shee) Imperium. Intelligence data is largely second hand, gleaned from other species along the frontier. It appears that the Imperium is composed of a number of species in a cooperative alliance. The exact relationship between the species is not completely clear and they, at times, appear to act independently of one another. Though contact with Star Fleet has been limited for the past few decades, the Sidhe Imperium is classified as an extreme-level threat to the Federation.

- The Suliban were a largely nomadic warp-capable humanoid species, considered by the Vulcans to be "a somewhat primitive species". The Suliban homeworld was a formerly-inhabited planet and the homeworld of the Suliban in Sector 3641 in the Beta Quadrant. By the mid-19th century, this planet had become uninhabitable, forcing the Suliban into a nomadic existence. This humanoid species has no body hair and their distinguishing physical characteristic is their mottled, greenish-tinted skin.
- The Suliban are a species who have lost everything, their world and their past. Added to that is the fact that due to the terrorist activities of a small group of them who have been genetically altered many other species have subjected them to negative prejudice in the past. Over time most of their own style of society have been lost to them. They have successfully assimilated into numerous other societies and have in many cases adopted the style of the society of the people among whom they live and work on a daily basis. Their encounters with Vulcans and Denobulans were always very cordial. As there is no central government for the Suliban society, they are classified as a zero-level risk to the Federation at this time.

- The Talosians are an aged, sentient, telepathic humanoid species native to Talos IV in the Talos star group of the Alpha Quadrant, Franovey Sector. They were once a warp-capable, technologically advanced culture but a nuclear holocaust left their planet virtually uninhabitable and killed most of the species. They moved underground and developed their mental abilities to create realistic illusions, although their technological knowledge atrophied. It is unknown what they originally looked like prior to the nuclear war that drove them underground over 100,000 years ago. Now they are slim humanoids on average about 5 foot tall with frail physical bodies and large over developed craniums. They have no body hair and large veins can be seen to throb along the outer surfaces of their heads. They wear long flowing colored robes that conceal their entire bodies except for their hands and heads.
- Little is known about their mental state prior to the nuclear war, however since that time they found that life using illusion was addictive, almost like a Human developing a physical and psychological dependence on narcotics. They became bored with the content of the illusions which they had. Their dependence upon these illusions for mental stimuli caused the Talosians to begin capturing space travelers to use as the living basis for their illusions. As such, the Talosians and Talos IV are classified as an EXTREME-level threat to the Federation.
- NOTE: Please see Star Fleet General Order 7 for specific SFUCMJ regarding Talos IV.

- The Children of Tama, also known as Tamarians, are a warp-capable species from the planet Sigma Tama IV in the Alpha Quadrant. Tamarians generally resemble humanoids with some differences. The Tamarian head possesses two long slitted nostrils and have no visible auricles, but instead have two small holes located on the sides of the head, a little higher than humanoid ear. A large ridge runs from the top of their nose to the back of the head and several more bony ridges or flaps of skin can be observed on the sides of the skull. Apart from typical sexual dimorphisms observed in many humanoid species, female Tamarians feature the same characteristics. Tamarian hands varied in that their thumbs are elongated and have a sucker-like tip at the end. Their skin is colored light brown with several darker red markings, especially on the head. The species seems to be completely hairless and their blood is white, which shone through in some small arteries on the head.
- Although the species was encountered a total of seven times in the hundred years after first contact, formal relations were unable to be established, due to the complexity and provincial nature of the Tamarian language – which was entirely composed of metaphors derived from their collective experience and mythology. By the mid 2390's, many Tamarians were serving in Star Fleet as the Federation's universal translator technology was able to translate the Tamarian language, though imperfectly. The UFP and Children of Tama have been allies for decades. Despite repeated invitations from the Federation Council to become members of the UFP, they have clung to their sovereignty and remain an independent state and remain steadfast allies for decades. As such, the Tamarians are classified as an Allied Power posing no security threat to the Federation.

- The Tholians are a crystalline-based life form that, at least as some evidence suggests, may not have originated in this galaxy. In appearance they are multifaceted solids [1] with two upper limbs and six lower ones. Tholians are accustomed to a very high temperature [5], and are comfortable in well over two hundred degrees Celsius. Anything less than one hundred and fifty degrees is very painful to a Tholian, and temperatures below one hundred are fatal within seconds. They are an extremely xenophobic people, and very precise and demanding. As such, they guard their borders vigorously, meeting any and all who cross their borders promptly and swiftly. They have bene, in the recent past, in on-again, off-again conflagrations with the Gorn Hegemony, and have also fought the Romulans within the past 10 years. In each case, these were defensive wars for the Tholians. A truce exists between the Tholian Holdfast and the UFP and as such are classified as a low-level threat to the Federation.

- The UFP was first made aware of the Treaji from an unmanned Treaji SETI probe which was intercepted by the USS Kingston in 2378. Two years later, the USS Krakatoa traced the location of the Treaji homeworld during her survey of the cluster. First official contact was made in 2380, initiating peaceful, if distant, relations between the two powers. The cluster's geographic isolation and the Treaji's limited range made more meaningful pursuits too difficult. The Treaji exchanged diplomatic pleasantries with every Federation vessel it encountered and offered escorted passage through their space, but little else came of the encounter before the 25th century.
- When the Krakatoa conducted the first close-range exploration of the cluster in 2380, it uncovered the existence of a dozen interstellar civilizations. In the intervening years, fifteen new species in Galapagos have either developed interstellar civilizations on their own or been helped to modernization by one of the leading powers. TACFLEET estimates that by the late 2500s most or all of the species in the cluster will be taking part in the interstellar arena; the number and population of advanced civilizations there will rival the Federation. Currently the Commonwealth is classified as a low-level threat to the Federation.

- The Tzenkethi were a warp-capable civilization native to the planet Tzenketh in the Alpha Quadrant, Tzen Poga Sector. The government is officially called the Tzenkethi Coalition and is headed by the Autarch, under whom serve a number of appointed ministers, or Tzelnira. The Tzenkethi homeworld is called Ab-Tzenketh by the natives and simply Tzenketh by their allies. Tzenkethi skin tones range from pale green, through yellow and orange, to bright red. In addition, they give off a faint glow, thought to be a natural phosphorescent effect of the skin. They have ovoid-shaped eyes, voices that sound like bells, and are described as being very tall and visually attractive to most other races, even non-humanoid ones. Their skin carries a slight electric charge, giving other individuals a tingling sensation upon physical contact. This charge can be intensified at will to painful levels for the receiver. They are also capable of carrying and transmitting diseases to others while remaining unaffected themselves.
- A brief war was fought between the UFP and Coalition in the early 2260s with an uneasy truce prevailing since then. The Coalition appears to spend a great deal of its time making a scapegoat out of the United Federation of Planets, twisting all intergalactic news to make the Federation appear ruthless, dangerous and immoral. The Tzenkethi Coalition is classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation at this time.

- The Xanthandi developed in the Xanth system (GALREF176-723-464). Their pre-contact empire constituted of the nearby cluster of three stars, as well as another four systems near Federation space. They are an intelligent and dangerous species, of which not much more is known. Though hostile to Star Fleet, the Empire is considered a low-level threat to the Federation.
- The Yridians are a warp-capable race from the Yridia Prime located in the Beta Quadrant. They were regarded as information merchants and smugglers, and were generally considered devious and untrustworthy. These humanoids are usually bald and have wrinkled skin. Physically, they are stooped over, grey-skinned humanoids with very loose, flaccid, skin. They also had large rodent-like pointy ears but small eyes and noses.
- All Yridians have an indented ridge running across the full length of their heads and extending down their nose. Most Yridians had no thumbs, and possessed only four fingers on each hand. Among the large number of Yridians who seem to be nomadic there does not seem to be any recognizable form of society. It is not known if the Yridians have a central government. The Yridians encountered by the Federation appeared to be loosely aligned and concerned with their own interests, often serving as hired agents for other races and operating as groups or individuals. Lacking an organized, central government the Yridian society is classified as a low-level threat to the Federation, however OSFI provides a general warning to all Star Fleet forces to use extreme caution in matters of security when dealing with Yridians.

- The Dominion is a major imperialist state in the Gamma Quadrant. Technologically advanced and millennia old, the Dominion was dedicated to imposing the Founders' vision of "order" upon the universe, i.e. bringing all other civilizations under its control. In the 2370s, the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole brought the Dominion into contact with civilizations in the Alpha Quadrant. After learning that Star Fleet would destroy the wormhole in the event of a direct Dominion incursion, the Founders initiated long-term plans to weaken and subvert the Alpha Quadrant. No way was ever found to peacefully co-exist with the Dominion. The Dominion remains classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation, though one largely contained in the Gamma Quadrant. The Dominion itself encompasses countless worlds and species, however the ‘government’ is administered by three distinct species:
- * Changelings, known as the Founders, established the Dominion to protect themselves from persecution by ‘solids’, their contemptuous term for all non-changeling species. They were responsible for both the creation of the Dominion and all strategic decisions undertaken throughout its history. Though generally considered mythical by some Gamma Quadrant races, they remained, as of the late 24th century, the embodiment of the Dominion itself, and the ultimate reason for its existence.
- * The Vorta are a humanoid species genetically-engineered by the Founders of the Dominion to act as field commanders, administrators, scientists, and diplomats. The Vorta saw themselves as those who "served the Founders." Perhaps the most important of the genetic alterations made to the Vorta was an intrinsic belief that the Founders were gods, which ensured the Vorta's absolute obedience to the Founders. Because of their high status within the Dominion, many species mistakenly assumed that the Dominion is led by the Vorta. In reality, the Vorta merely acted as its administrators, commanders, scientists, and diplomats, operating under the authority of the Changeling founders. Owing to their position in the Dominion hierarchy, the Vorta also served as the commanders of the Jem'Hadar.
- * Jem’Hadar are a genetically engineered reptilian-like humanoid species from the Gamma Quadrant. They served as the military arm of the Dominion and were one of the most powerful military forces in the galaxy during their time. Jem'Hadar were generated in birthing chambers or hatcheries. Their growth cycle was accelerated such that they reached full maturity only three days after emergence. They did not procreate naturally, and their species consisted solely of males. Adult Jem'Hadar did not require sleep, and their sole source of nourishment was the drug ketracel-white, which provided the Jem'Hadar with all necessary nutrients, as well as an isogenic enzyme that had been deliberately omitted from their metabolism. As a result, all Jem'Hadar were addicted to "the white," which was regularly distributed to them by Vorta overseers. This was the Founders' means of ensuring the Jem'Hadar's loyalty to them.

The Dosi are a humanoid people, often seen with bold facial paint and an intense, confrontational “business-first” presence.
- The Karemma are a humanoid race native to the Gamma Quadrant. A predominantly tall and slender species with thin skin folds around the eyes, nose, and mouth, and a prominent midline ridge extending upward from the forehead. They have dark hair that is usually combed back.
- Known throughout the quadrant as fair and reputable merchants (mostly), Karemma believe that all merchandise has a set fair value, determined by the raw materials and labor involved in its creation, transportation costs, and a reasonable profit margin. They take a dim view of underhanded business practices commonly associated with races such as the Lissepians and Ferengi. In the decades since the end of the Dominion War, trade between the Karemma Commerce Ministry and the Federation has flourished. Likewise, diplomatic relations have been fruitful and a petition for Federation membership is highly anticipated in the next few years or less. As a potential new ally, the Karemma are classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
Delta Quadrant Species
OSFI THREAT LEVEL: >>Moderate<<
LOCATION: Homeworld Unknown, reclusive territory region - Delta Quadrant
An apparently humanoid, telepathic species capable of generating a powerful psionic field that traps targets in escalating hallucinations, potentially leaving them comatose.
- The Hierarchy are a Delta Quadrant species who were encountered by the USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 in 2376. They appear to be raiders, attacking those ships which pass through their space in order to steal resources. They hide vessels in nebulas, from which they conduct long range scans to find potential targets. Once a target comes into range the Hierarchy conduct detailed scans, analyzing its defensive capability and usefulness.
- Physically the Hierarchy are Humanoid, heavily built with brown hairless skin. They tend to limit their individuality somewhat, passing all information to a hierarchical command structure which makes the decisions. This hierarchy system is so ingrained that they have even adopted the term as their species name, although at least some members of their society resent the degree of control which the Hierarchy has over their lives.
- Star Fleet has only 3 reported contacts with the Hierarchy (all from USS VOYAGER), with the last encounter in 2377. As such, the Hierarchy are considered a low-level threat to the Federation at this time.

LOCATION: Homeworld Unknown, mostly a nomadic species - Delta Quadrant
- Hirogen are towering, thick-skinned hunters whose bodies blend mammalian and reptilian traits. Their rough, pebbled hide, heavy cranial plating, and powerful musculature are built for endurance hunting and rapid recovery. Standing well above most humanoids, they possess exceptional strength and highly developed olfactory and visual senses. While males are most commonly encountered by outsiders, limited accounts suggest Hirogen females pursue mates who have earned rare or exceptional trophies.
Their civilization revolves entirely around the Hunt—a ruthless, all-defining ethos that dictates rank, identity, and worth. Nomadic packs roam the Delta Quadrant in small, two- or three-person ships, seeking worthy prey and collecting trophies—biological or technological—as proof of prowess. This constant dispersal has strained their society, stunted scientific progress, and reinforced their view of other species as quarry rather than peers. Since contact with USS VOYAGER NCC-74656, however, emerging factions have shown interest in post-Hunt cultural reform and limited diplomacy, hinting at the first cracks in their long-entrenched traditions.
- After receiving data from USS Voyager to create holographic technology in the 2370s, Hirogen created large space stations fitted with holoemitters so that they could hunt holographic prey. As a result, Hirogen tribes became less nomadic. Though no contact has been reported since 2399, even in their last known semi-nomadic culture the Hirogen are classified as high-level threat to the Federation.
- The Kazon are a humanoid race, having at least two racial variants, one minority race with brown skin and the most common race with copper-colored skin. The foreheads of all Kazon featured distinctive ridges and their black or brown hair grew in large chunks rather than individual strands. They are a violent race who consider themselves to be great warriors and possess the bravado of Klingons and Nausicaans, they also possess the cunning of the Ferengi.
- Originally a slave species of the Trabe, the Kazon overthrew their masters in a revolt over a century ago. They have a relatively disorganized culture - splintered into several sects who have competed with one another for resources ever since. Some of the sects are extremely weak, lacking the ability to provide even the basics of life properly. Others operate fleets of warships which they 'liberated' from the Trabe; although some of these are large and powerful, the Kazon are not great technicians and their ships tend to be relatively poorly maintained. The Borg designation for the Kazon is species 329; however were considered unworthy of assimilation by the Collective. Star Fleet has not reported any contact with the Kazon in several decades, yet given their violent, aggressive and untrustworthy nature they are classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The Malon are a warp capable humanoid species from Malon Prime in the Delta Quadrant, first encountered by USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 in 2375. The Malon had broad noses with distinctly-shaped nostrils, and their skin was a yellowish-brown color. Their foreheads have a slight ridge-like protrusion. They also have brown hair which was usually thick and wavy when they are young, but like in Humans receding hairlines and baldness occurred in older Malons. Their hair follicles grow from the mid part of their heads, just after the ridge-like pattern.
- An economically minded society; although technologically advanced, the Malon lack the technology to recycle antimatter waste, which they produced in vast quantities: over six billion isotons per day. The industrial byproduct emitted hazardous theta radiation, which was extremely degenerative and lethal in short exposure. Lacking any means to safely handle it, their hazardous waste was dumped in open space in vast quantities by waste export vessels. Though no contact has been reported since 2375, captains are advised to use extreme caution in dealing with Malon and as such they are classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The Ocampa or Ocampans were a humanoid species who lived on the planet Ocampa in the Delta Quadrant. Their early history was shrouded in mystery but their own legends told of a time when they were capable of great mental feats. The Ocampa were humanoid and resembled Humans except for a few folds of skin around their ears. They were born without ear folds, which grew as the infants aged. They aged very rapidly, resulting in an average life span of only eight or nine years. Consequently, they developed and learned extremely quickly. Most of their growth took place in the first six months, and by one year old, they had reached a young adult stage. They remained in this stage for several years.
- First encountered in 2371 when the USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 after that ship was dragged into the region by the entity known to the Ocampa as 'The Caretaker'. Though no contact has been made with the planet since that year, Captain Janeway noted in her log she was concerned the Kazon Nistrom would overrun the Ocampa and either enslave or destroy their society. Although overall peaceful, Ocampa have been observed to exhibit extreme telepathic along with eidetic memory, precognition, telekinesis of varying strength, and the ability to sense and manipulate the subatomic level of matter. As such, the Ocampa are considered a low-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The Sikarians are the humanoid inhabitants of the planet Sikaris in the Delta Quadrant who are in some respects significantly more advanced than the Federation. They were a remarkably pleasure-oriented people, who also found great pleasure in bringing pleasure to guests and were known for their legendary hospitality. The Sikarians were a technologically-advanced race, having produced unusual technologies like their atmospheric sensor, and the spatial trajector, which could instantaneously transport a person up to forty thousand light years. No contact has been made since the crew of the USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 visited the planet in 2371 and was denied use of the trajector due to their internal policies similar to the Prime Directive. As such, they have been classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation.
- The Talaxians are a warp-capable, technologically-advanced species native to the planet Talax in the Delta Quadrant. Physically, the Talaxians were humanoid, with large areas of yellow to reddish-brown spotting on their heads, arms, and bodies. They had pale skin, with a protruding "Y"-shaped bone ridge across the top of their chest area with a plume of ginger hair on the top of their heads. Males also had ginger whiskers growing on either side of their face; these developed during puberty, and tugging on a Talaxian's whiskers could be considered a pleasuring act. They were generally stocky with a dense musculature. The Borg believed that this fact made Talaxians excellent drones. Talaxians appeared to be a whimsical race with a well developed sense of humor yet also an incredibly spiritual people. They were usually very friendly, helpful and were willing to offer their services to anyone who required them. First contacted by USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 in 2371.
- Talax was seized by the Haakonian Order in the year 2356, after the Talaxian unconditional surrender concluded the Talaxian-Haakonian War. As of 2378, the planet was still believed to be under Haakonian control. They did not treat the Talaxians well, leading some to leave. With the exception of a few colonies on the edge of the Delta Quadrant, the Talaxians are primarily a nomadic race. As such, they have been classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 stumbled upon the remnants of the entire Vaadwaur species in cryogenic sleep for centuries when the VOYAGER crew was forced to land on the Vaadwaur homeworld in the Practis Videlus Sector to escape the Turei in 2376. The Vaadwaur were a significant power in the region approximately one thousand years ago. The basis of their power was the network of underspace corridors which they had discovered, allowing travel at speeds in excess of twenty million times the speed of light. The Vaadwaur used this network to travel over great distances, both trading and warring with many other races. Unfortunately, the Vaadwaur warred far more than they traded. They were hated by many species, and almost nine hundred years ago an alliance of various species - including the Turei - attacked and virtually destroyed the Vaadwaur. Their home world was heavily bombed by plasma charges and rendered highly radioactive, and for many centuries it was thought that they had become extinct.
- Vaadwaur were characterized by small ridges on their chins and two horizontal ridges just above their noses. The ridges on the Vaadwaurs' faces gave them very sharp features. A large fin-like crest ran across the center of their foreheads, becoming wider as it reached the tops of their skulls. Their hair grew from around the mid-region of their skulls, just where their fin ridges seemed to end. Neck ridges extended from their ears, down along their necks, and onto their shoulders where they curled in towards the centers of their chests. This gave the neck ridges a cobra-like appearance overall, somewhat similar to Cardassians. While their technology (as of 2376) was severely outdated, the Vaadwaur are a resourceful, cunning and dangerous people and have been classified as a high-level threat to the Federation.
- Encountered by USS VOYAGER NCC-74656 in 2371, For two millennia, the entire Vidiian race suffered from a disease called the Phage that ate skin and internal organs, and damaged their DNA. The Vidiians have no cure for the Phage, and are forced to replace body parts on a regular basis. Despite possessing advanced medical knowledge, including genetic engineering, the Vidiians apparently lack the ability to clone bodies for replacement parts. They therefore frequently attack other species and steal their organs for transplants. The Vidiians were once a race of educators and explorers, renowned for their artistic achievements, until the Phage attacked approximately 2,000 years prior to the 24th century. Their civilization was ravaged and they turned all their attention to treating the disease.
- By 2375, it was rumored that a cure for the Vidiian Phage had been found, however this has yet to be confirmed. As such, the Vidiian species are classified as a moderate-level treat to the Federation.
- Encountered by USS YOYAGER NCC-74656 in 2373, the Voth are an ancient Saurian species, descendants of the Dinosaur species which dominated life on Earth many millions of years ago. They are believed to have evolved from the Hadrosaur on some remote portion of the globe some millions of years prior to the asteroid impact which destroyed the Dinosaurs. The Voth developed spaceflight to interstellar capability, but for some reason they did not appear to establish permanent offworld colonies. Although details are unknown, it appears that a natural disaster destroyed the Voths habitat on Earth and forced them to abandon the planet. They remained unwilling to colonize nearby systems, and instead embarked on a trek across the galaxy to find a home they deemed suitable.
- A significantly advanced species, the Voth were cold-blooded creatures, had a superior sense of smell, and skin pigmentation which altered according to moods. With three clawed "fingers" or manipulatory digits on each hand and a height slightly taller than an average adult human, the Voth are a humanoid species. Although the Voth possess a number of inhabited colonies and worlds throughout the Delta Quadrant, they live also in huge spacefaring vessels known as "city-ships". Complete with transwarp drive and spatial displacement cloaking device, these vessels even possess their own council chambers from which the Council of Elders can govern. The Voth have been classified as a low-level threat to the Federation.
Known Species In and Beyond the Milky Way
- Originating in the Andromeda galaxy, the Kelvans are a highly advanced and powerful species possessed of great technology. Their own galaxy is slowly becoming uninhabitable, and so the Kelvans sent out craft to seek new territories to conquer in neighboring galaxies. The ship sent to our own Milky Way galaxy was disabled while passing through the energy barrier at the galactic rim, and its small crew were forced to abandon it and proceed in a lifeboat. Their true appearance is unknown and likely incompatible with habitation in the Milky Way.
- After a failed attempt to commandeer the USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701 in 2268, the Kelvans were convinced peaceful coexistence was possible and have established colonies in the Beta Quadrant. Though initially hostile, the have maintained peaceful neutrality within the Federation and as such are classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The species that the Federation called the Progenitors, also known as the ancient humanoids, were the oldest sentient species and the first humanoid species to evolve in the Milky Way Galaxy. They flourished some 4.5 billion years ago on an ancient planet and explored the galaxy, but found no other lifeforms like themselves. The Progenitors discovered advanced technology that unknown beings had used to create them, and in turn used it to create humanoid species similar to themselves.
- One of the greatest mysteries of the known galaxy is why intelligent species on so many worlds have evolved in such similar ways. There are literally thousands of races which have two arms, two legs, a torso and head, whose sensory organs operate in a similar manner, who even breathe approximately the same gas mixture. That this could happen by chance is so unlikely as to be virtually impossible, and many outlandish theories were advanced to explain the anomaly.
- As no contact has been made with the Progenitors since 2369, they have been classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- Non corporeal entities which created and occupy the Bajoran Wormhole. The Prophets are the basis for the religion of the Bajoran people, who regard the Wormhole as being their Celestial Temple. The Prophets' origins remained unknown; however they have described themselves as being 'of Bajor', and have shown themselves to be at least partially concerned with the affairs of the Bajorans. They were proven to possess exceptional abilities, such as giving the Bajorans glimpses of the future, that were written down in the form of prophecies that were later used to help them guide succeeding generations. The Prophets are sometimes referred to as wormhole aliens, mainly by non-Bajorans.
- No official contact (other than those of a Bajoran spiritual nature) has been made since 2375 and as such the Prophets are classified as a zero-level threat to the Federation at this time.
- The "Q" are an ancient race of omnipotent beings, their true form unknown though they appear to mimic the forms of those they encounter instantly, not akin to the morphing capabilities of the Changelings. The Q are thought to have once been a relatively 'normal' species, but at some point they acquired incredible powers to control matter and energy, space and even time itself. Little is known of them for certain but they are known to reside in a place they refer to as 'the Q continuum', which is apparently a higher dimension of some form.
- Various Q (both male and female) have been reported by Star Fleet Captains over the past 200 years. Most encounters have been logged as annoying interruptions though others were characterized as several members of the crew being manipulated and outright abducted. As such, the Q are classified as an EXTREME-level threat to the Federation and unit commanders are urged to proceed with utmost caution in such encounters.
- The Sphere-Builders were a humanoid species native to a trans-dimensional realm. One of the factions in the Temporal Cold War, they were responsible for the creation of a network of massive spheres in the Delphic Expanse as the first step in their plan to colonize the Milky Way Galaxy. The real name of this species is unknown, if indeed they have such a name. They are known to the Xindi as the Guardians, to the Triannon as The makers, and more generically as simply The Sphere Builders. Existing in a dimension which is completely separate from our own, the Guardians long sought to find a way to colonise our universe.
- In the mid-12th century, the Sphere-Builders created a network of spheres designed to generate spatial anomalies that would reconfigure space to suit their needs. The reconfigured space would in turn be inimical to all existing lifeforms. The spheres' activity isolated the surrounding region behind a barrier of thermobaric clouds, creating the hazardous Delphic Expanse. Unfortunately for them the laws of physics in our universe are significantly different from their own, and as a result exposure to our space is rapidly lethal to the Guardians. Approximately a thousand years ago they embarked on an ambitious attempt to 'reconfigure' our space, gradually altering the physical laws so that they could survive here. To this end they built a series of gigantic spheres which interacted with one another to alter the physical laws. By the mid 22nd century this had created the Delphic Expanse, a vast region filled with dangerous anomalies.
- Nevertheless, they failed to prevent ENTERPRISE NX-01 from disabling an interspatial manifold on the sphere's surface with a deflector pulse. This resulted in a chain reaction that destroyed the entire sphere network, causing the Delphic Expanse to dissipate and forcing the Sphere-Builders to retreat back to their native realm. Though no contact has been made since 2154, the Sphere Builders have been classified as a high-level threat to the Federation.
- The Woren Imperium is a totalitarian government in the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy, about 50,000 light years from Federation space. They are aggressive and militaristic, conquering whole planets and systems and then enslaving the races of those planets to do the work 'beneath' a Woren.
- The Woren themselves- the dominating race in the Imperium- are felinoid in nature, not unlike Caitians or Sivaoans. They control the slave races through fear and violence, taking away all basic rights from the enslaved and enforcing their rule with a barbarism that would make a Klingon cringe.
- For the most part, the work of the slave races revolves around the gathering and mining of dangerous natural resources. These resources are at the very core of their economy; not only to they provide the necessary materials to build and maintain its large navy, but the sale of these resources provides the Woren with enough capital to purchase what they cannot mine themselves.
- The Woren are, at this time, a threat species confined to Gold Fleet's Area of Operation, specifically within the Orestes region of Krima space and the Imperium is classified as a moderate-level threat to the Federation.
