-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BASIC INFORMATION: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Official Name: Hannians National Name: Hannians Title of the Head of Government: Elder (see below) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- GEOGRAPHY/POPULATION ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Hannians exist only on the planet 403-A, the only satellite of the solar system for Star-403, in what is known in Starfleet records as the Horsehead Nebula. 403-A is an extremely large, dry planetoid, about ten times the diameter of Terra, in the Sol system. The planet consists of mostly weathered igneous rock, eroded only by the occasional heavy wind storm, and by the sparse rain found mostly at the poles. There are many species found on 403-A, but none are apparently sentient except for the Hannians. Surface scans indicate nearly 1 billion Hannians, with the population concentrated near the poles. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ECONOMIC SUMMARY ----------------------------------------------------------------- The economy of the Hannians appears to be based primarily on subsistence, and trade, when necessary. Many races had attempted to contact the Hannians before Starfleet placed a planetary quarantine, in order to gain access to the wealth of resources on 403-A, but all attempts failed. Scans indicate that the planet has some of the highest levels of mineral wealth ever recorded for a single planet, but no fossil fuels, and little energy production capability. The Hannians use precious metals and crystals for jewelry, which has become the primary mode of wealth transfer. There are no exports or imports to or from 403-A because of a quarantine enforced by the Federation of Planets. Their technology is not highly advanced. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- GOVERNMENT/HISTORY ----------------------------------------------------------------- The governmental structure consists of nomadic tribes that only rarely interact except for rare trading sessions and mating purposes. The average tribe consists of 2000 members, and there is no apparent hierarchy between tribes. The head of each tribe, therefore, is identified as the highest ranking member of Hannian society, and is known as an Elder. Very little else in known about either the history of the evolution to the current governmental system. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RACE/SOCIETY/CULTURE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The culture is highly pacifist, with no apparent wars at any time between the various tribes. This may be as a result of their ability to control the thoughts and visions of other sentient beings. Whether this is a deterrent to conflict, or an aide to understanding, is difficult to tell. This capability has allowed the Hannians to repel any attacks on the species, with historical records from many races, including the Klingons, indicating that the mind attacks were not stopped by defensive measures of the time. The average Hannian measures between 2-4 meters in height, but rarely more than 100 kilograms in weight, with the females being the larger of the species. Skin color ranges through several ranges of grey, as do the eyes and hair of Hannians. The language has a musical tone, with four octaves and 35 characters. Several recordings were made at first contact. The average lifespan is unknown, and the away team in charge of first contact was kept away from any young. The only example of a Hannian outside of 403-A, appears to be Iki-May Dieje, a member of Starfleet whose own background is incomplete, and so a direct link cannot be made. *A special note: Iki-May Dieje was found on another planet, in an advanced device for suspended animation that could not be traced to any existing species. The source of this device is as yet unknown, but its age was several thousand years. This has led to intense debate in Starfleet as to whether the Hannians may have lost once available technologies. Requests for archaelogical expeditions have been denied to date. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Creator(s)/Adaptor(s) Email Address Stuart Scruggs scruggs@oxy.edu Created for/First Use (if known): Character on ASR. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Please check one: __ Canonical - All rights reserved by Paramount. __ Semi-Canonical - All rights reserved by Paramount. __ Non-Canonical - All rights reserved by companies specified: _____________________________________________________________ _X_ Original - All rights reserved by creator named above. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
