USS FEYNMAN: Short post for your friendly Ship's Counselor

by Kristen Gant 1-1-1996

[Zane to Ensign Jenn.]

“Jenn here.”

[Ensign would you report to my office and when your duties allow?]

“On my way.”

Stardate: 80101.0635
Scene: Counselor’s Office
Shipdate: 1.2145

Krysa was startled from her meditation with the creature by the FO. It was probably a good thing. The captain had ordered the ship to leave the anomaly behind to go help the colonists. Krysa had the distinct feeling that they would eventually have to deal with the anomaly any when they were done anyway.

She quickly stood and headed for Commander Zane’s Office.

Scene: FO’s Office Shipdate: 1.2230

Commander Zane filled Krysa in on some ships operations and answered some questions for her.

“Any other questions?” the Commander asked her.

Krysa thought about it for a short time and then decided not to mention her recent contact with the anomaly. She still was unsure as to what she was dealing with. She was very sure she was getting an accurate picture of what the creature was feeling, but the empathic capabilities of the creature were still in question. Maybe her own fear had been clouding her senses. She wanted to wait until she was sure.

“No, Commander, not at this time. But I promise that when something comes up, I’ll call you.”

The Commander nodded, and dismissed her. Krysa quickly headed out the door. She was very tired. She had had very little rest in the last few days since graduating from training. There was still a few hours before Alpha shift would start. She figured she should take full advantage of it.

Scene: Counselor’s Quarters Shipdate: 1.2245

Krysa relaxed as she slipped under the covers. She was really looking forward to this nights sleep.

NRPG:

Andy: Hope your FIL is feeling better.

All: I am also kinda out of it right now. I had a disturbing Dr.’s appt. on Saturday. More tests scheduled for Wed. Keep your fingers crossed that this won’t require surgery. If it does, I’ll let you know. Until then I am available, just stressed<EG>

Also, I still haven't figured out what GMT time is. Can anyone tell me how to calculate it from any US time zone. I can take it from there. As of today, I am still using CST (Central Standard Time) which is what it is here in the Chicago 'burbs<G>

BTW, Happy New Year!!

USS FEYNMAN: Maril's Quarters

by Max Felsher 1-3-1996

SD 80103.1330(GMT)
SD 2.0700
Lt. Maril's Quarters

Lt. Maril woke up, still feeling somewhat tired, but knowing he would have to be on the Bridge in 45 minutes to relieve SCPO Meln.

"Bajoran pasta with caliterio sauce," Maril ordered from the replicator. As he pulled the dish off of the replicator, he got into his uniform and took a glance at the current situation.

"Hmmm. Eve is now only traveling at Warp 7.7. It must be really tired," he said to himself. He then finished his breakfast and started walking towards his office at about 0715 hours.

As he walked into his office, he saw that WO Ein was already there. "Oh, I didn't realize you were coming here, sir," he blurted out quickly. "It is alright, Ein. Someone should be here most of the time. So, what has happened?"

"We are approximately 6 hours away from the Delta-Tyron system. The anomaly has slowed to Warp 7.7. We have received several more distress signal see you."

"He did?" Maril asked, surprised.

"Yes, sir, he did."

"Well, where is he?"

"I believe he went back to Docking Bay 12, sir."

"Lieutenant Maril to Lieutenant Williams. You wanted to see me?"

[Yes, sir. I'll be right there...where are you?]

"I'm in my office. Maril out."

A few minutes later the confident Marine walked through the door. "Hello, Mr. Williams. What did you want to see me about?"

"Well, sir, with all due respect, I'm on to your game."

"My game?"

"Yes, your game. I know we've been gipped."

"Gipped?"

"Yes. The Marines have less power to use per capita than any other section on the entire ship!"

"Well, Mr. Williams, when I organized the power grid, I gave a 5% increase to every section and I gave your section, which had not existed before, 7.5% of the power. Now, I did not organize it by the number of people in a section! Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir," the somewhat startled MCO replied.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a shift on the Bridge very soon."

With that, Lt. Maril walked out of his office, leaving 1st Lt. Williams alone and a little bit confused.

NRPG: All:I didn't want to add anything to the thread in case someone wanted to add something during the GAMMA shift. By the way, we should be at Delta-Tyron at about 1300 hours(ALPHA shift).
Jason:I believe Koreth is in charge for the BETA shift.
Colby:Same for Charles, except GAMMA.
Andrew:One question:When an officer has a shortened ALPHA shift, is it from 0745-1200 or from 1145-1600?

USS FEYNMAN: Arrival in the Delta-Tyron System

by Andrew Nugteren 1-4-1996

Stardate: 80104
Ship's Date: 2.1300
Scene: Bridge

"Sir," the helmsman plucked up. "We are entering the Delta-Tyron system."

Paul looked the part of a relaxed Commanding Officer, although inside his head thoughts were rushing around helter-skelter. "Very well," he replied. "Take us out of warp. Maximum impulse toward the planet. Standard orbit."

Several minutes passed. "Standard orbit, sir."

In the hours leading up to the arrival, the away team had been prepared. This was perhaps the largest planetside operation the USS FEYNMAN had been involved in so far, and in addition to the officers beaming down, a large team of Engineers and Medical Staff were also to accompany them. Who was to know what assistance the colony would need?

"Mr. Zane, prepare the away team for beam down."

"Aye sir," Zane grinned. In a way he still wished that he would be aboard the ship, but the Captain's job was to his ship and there was always the possibility of danger on a planet-side mission. "Mr. Tok, Mr. Maril, Mr. Koreth. Report to Transporter Room 2 in 10 minutes."

==========
Ship's Date: 2.1320 Scene: Transporter Room 2

The four chosen officers stood on the transporter pads awaiting beam down. In the heart of the ship, the many other security, engineering and medical staff also stood awaiting the order. Zane was not one to muck around waiting.

"Mr. Woeghenhart, *Energize*"

A few moments later, the shimmering had died down and the platform was empty. The transporter room doors opened almost immediately, and likewise all around the ship, as the various equipment needed on the planet was assembled in place for beam-down. Among the various items Zane had requested were a portable high-output power generator, several phase controllers, various manipulative equipment and other essentials such as food/water, and medical supplies. This equipment too shimmered its way down to the surface only moments later.

[Commander Zane to Bridge.]

"Paul here. Go ahead."

[It's a real mess down here, though probably nothing we can't deal with. We're fine.]

"Thank you Zane," Paul replied. "I expect we'll be back within 2-3 days after we conclude our investigations. Feynman out."

Paul stood and moved over to the helm.

"Helmsman. Lay in an intercept course for 'Eve'. Maximum impulse, Warp 8.5 when we're out of the system. Engage!"

Respectfully submitted Cmdr. Paul Paxwax

<<NRPG>>

Okay everyone... there's a lot of time passed aboard the ship since the last post came in. In the interim the probe that was being prepared has been launched, and I imagine we have the results of its investigation to hand. Obviously nothing that made the Captain change his mind. I just felt it would be good to keep our investigations moving along again.

Planetside team: Since Andy C is probably still going to be away for a few more days with his FIL, Max will be in charge of the team in the interim. Our CMO is still on holiday for almost another three weeks so that leaves Andy C/Max/Jason on the planet.

Following along the lines of Jason's post, maybe something can be found planetside that confirms/denies the existance of this cloaked ship idea. I imagine there's plenty of work to do if the colony has been damaged as much as we thought it was. If the colony sensors can be made to work, perhaps you guys can observe the second anomoly that's near the planet. Let's get writing!

Shipside team: Anyone go ahead and write away. I imagine we'll be both investigating 'Eve' and possibly the cloaked ship. I've a few ideas as I dearsay you all do as well.

Kristen: My fingers are crossed!

Colby: Welcome back!

USS FEYNMAN: Counselor to the Bridge

by Kristen Gant 1-4-1996

Stardate: 80104.1222
Scene: Counselor’s Office
Ship’s Date: 2.1330

Krysa Jenn was in her office going over the many files that she needed to familiarize herself with. The Feynman had a ships complement of over 400 people. Reading through 400 bios would be impossible, but she did need to organize them and at least have a fair understanding of who she would be dealing with. Once they were organized they would be available for her perusal at a moments notice.

Looking up she noticed the stars starting to slide by the viewport, indicating that the ship was going back into warp. Krysa realized that meant that the Captain had transported the assistance team down to the colony and they were now headed out to meet the anomaly, “Eve”. She decided now was the time to report to the bridge to see what she could do to help.

Securing her computer data, she got up from her desk and headed for the bridge.

Scene: Bridge
Ship’s Date: 2.1345

Krysa entered the bridge. This was her first time on the bridge of the FEYNMAN. The captain sat in his chair looking remarkably relaxed and in control. The rest of the bridge crew were busily doing thier jobs and if they took note of her entrance didn’t bother to acknowledge it.

The Captain, on the other hand, looked up at her and stood and beckoned her over. “Welcome to the bridge, Ens. Jenn.”

“Thank you, Sir. I realized that we must be heading out to intercept “Eve”, so I thought I’d like to be here when we did.”

“Of course,” the Captain said.

“Sir, I do have a theory, I’d like to discuss with you when you have a moment. It might add a little to our investigations.”

Respectfully,
Ens. Krysa Jenn, Ship's Counselor, USS FEYNMAN

NRPG: My theory being that “Eve” is a baby or young one. That’s the total that I can add at this point<G> I don’t know what happened to the other creature, or “Eve” for that matter, but I’m assuming since she was following the ship we will meet her very soon.

Colby: Thanks for the info on the time zones<G> I think I got it.

Andrew: Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed<BG> I think it worked. No invasive surgical procedures are necessary at this time. I think I was just being paranoid. Though doc said to continue watching for the next month or so just to be sure<G> Doctors can be so annoying<EG>

USS FEYNMAN: Delta-Tyron VII

ShD 2.1330
Delta-Tyron VII

"In addition to our starved conditions before that...thing attacked, we were also severely damaged in its attack," Lt. Commander Delvik, the CO of the science station, told them.

"Commander, you call it a thing. Do you not know what it is?" Lt. Maril inquired.

"No, unfortunately, our sensors were knocked out almost immediately after the attack began."

"Very well," Zane sighed. "Mr. Maril, Mr. Koreth, you will work on repairing the station and restoring power. If you get a chance, contact the security station on this planet. Also-"

"That may be a little tough because the security station is on the other side of the planet," Delvik interrupted.

"Well, how did you communicate with them before?" Koreth asked, a little impatient.

"Well, we had some communication satelites and we were planning a base on the second moon, but then we were attacked and all of our satelites were knocked out."

"Well, then," Zane continued, "it may be a little harder. But, as I was saying, Mr. Maril, Mr. Koreth, you might be able to check the cloaked ship theory if you have the time. Now, Mr. Tok, you should probably see to the wounded and the starving. Dismissed."

As Maril and Koreth walked away, Maril said, "I suggest we split up, Mr. Koreth. Now, although I do have some engineering training, I believe you are the more experienced engineer. Because of that, you should take the primary systems. I'll take the secondary systems. When we are done, we will meet here. Is that fine with you?"

"Yes it is, sir," Lt.<jg> Koreth replied.

As the two officers walked away from each other, Maril sat down at a consoleand started to work. It wasn't easy. Almost the entire sensor array had been destroyed. At last, though, he got at least some sensor readings. He was able to restore most of the other secondary systems as well. At about 1530 hours, the senior officers met again.

"We have sensors and communications, and Lieutenant Koreth has told me that all of the major systems have been restored, although there is still quite a bit of damage," Maril reported.

"The station has been supplied and the wounded have been tended to," Lt.<jg> Tok told Zane.

"Very good. Gather up all the personnel. We'll leave as soon as the Feynman gets back," Zane ordered.

Just then, Delvik entered the room. "Wait. We appreciate all that you've done. And we'd like to thank you." As he said that, the sound of phaser rifles being aimed was heard. As the officers turned around, they could see several soldiers armed with rifles pointed straight at them.

Delvik smiled. "Computer, save program," he said.

"It is like Rekgia at Seliro," Maril said to himself. "What?" Delvik asked, confused.

"Just a metaphor. Rekgia was the captain of a Derestian fleet. Seliro was an enemy city. Seliro offered friendship to Deresta in order to lure Rekgia in. Rekgia seemed to fall for it and the Selirans were ready to capture Rekgia's fleet. However, as they were about to do so, a Derestian army attacked the city and conquered the city. You, sir, are the governor of Seliro," Maril told the story of the metaphor. Then, very quickly, he said, "Computer, run sequence - Maril, Gamma, Rekgia, 9, Maril." The four officers *appeared* to beam away.

"Very well Counsellor. Mr. Ein," he said to the Officer on Watch. "The Counsellor and I will be in my ready room. Notify me if there are any changes to our current situation."

"Aye sir."

==========
Scene: Captain's Ready Room

Paul gestured towards one of the comfortable chairs in front of his desk. The polished marble surface glinted with a reflection of the starscape streaming past. Paul sat back in his chair and gave Krysa a moment to collect her thoughts.

"You had a theory to discuss, Counsellor?"

"Yes sir. I think that Eve is a young one of her species, a child. Initially I sensed fear, fear that turned to comfort as it picked up a Betazoid song I was singing to myself. Captain, I think it needs protection."

"Protection from what?"

"We as children rely on our parents Captain. They supply us with all that we need to survive. I think that Eve has been separated from her mother."

Paul scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Hmmm.. There is a possibility that the other anomoly near the planet is in fact another creature, perhaps even its mother, so to speak. Why wouldn't it simply fly back though. It certainly has the speed."

"Maybe it can't see, or sense the other presence. So far it's been following our subspace emissions. Perhaps that is how it *see's*. Perhaps we could act as its guide."

Paul considered this carefully as well. "Paxwax to Bridge. ETA for the rendezvous with Eve?"

[ETA 43 minutes now sir.]

Paul turned back to Krysa. "We'll give it a go. I'd like you on the bridge when we meet Eve, Counsellor," he ordered. "Maybe you can calm it and show Eve that we mean no harm."

Ensign Thomas Jared was busy making minute adjustments to the Anti-matter storage when the call came through from the bridge. He answered immediately.

[Ensign. I'd like you to modify our subspace emmissions to provide us with an obvious trail behind us. We're going to have Eve follow us back to the planet.]

"Aye sir. We'll be ready."

Kristen: I figured I had to expand on your idea a bit. We couldn't have the Cousnellor figure everything out <G>

Jason: I know you're on the planet, but you could still write in for your NPC's aboard the FEYNMAN. (the offers open for anybody else too :-) Also, I haven't discarded your "cloaked ship" idea. I think it will fit in nicely with what's happening on the planet!

Max: I see you've got yourselves into a bit of trouble. btw, this isn't a holodeck simulation. You can't just halt the program! Good luck!

Andy: Good to see you back again!

Maril and Zane strode toward the station's research center. There was a lot of work to be done. The two officers sat down at the consoles inside, and got to work.

"It appears that we were correct. The station's log reports several experiments with Mu-spectrum radiation on the atmosphere of the third moon," Maril reported.

"Well, that's at least a step forward. Is that what attracted the anomalies?"

"Actually, it looks like it wasn't. It may be that our original theory about subspace activity is the correct one."

"Does the Mu-spectrum radiation have anything to do with it?"

"Well, it does appear that 'Eve' appeared at the time of a Mu-spectrum radiation burst from the station." Just then, the station's Red Alert sirens went off.

"We better go see what this is about," Zane said. They walked as quickly as they could, but it still took them a while to get to the station's Command Center. When they did, they found that the highest ranking officer there was a Lt.<jg>.

"What's happening here?" Zane asked that officer.

"There was a disturbance in orbit of the planet, and now it's just become the anomaly that was here before,...sir."

"Very well," Zane said. "As of right now, I'm relieving you of command."

The officer stood down and took the Tactical station while Maril took Ops.

"Commander, the anomaly is interfering with our communication with the Feynman," Maril reported.

"Is there any way to cut through it?" Zane asked.

"Possibly, if we use a lower subspace frequency....Wait, there seems to be a pattern to the interference. It could be a form of communication. I'm putting it through the Universal Translator." After waiting for a few moments, Maril continued, "It appears to be quite primitive. Should I play the translation?"

"Make it so."

In a somewhat crackly voice, the translation began: [You...take...baby...... Hard, slow flyer...take...mate......You...get hurt.]

"Atmosphere becoming very unstable," Maril reported.

"Try to send a communication saying we mean no harm," Zane ordered.

"Sending communication," Maril said.

The sun has met the sea, Lieutenant Onta Maril, Second/Operations Officer, USS Feynman, aka Max Felsher

NRPG: All:Forgot to put it in the post, but the "hard, slow flyer" is the Feynman(hard as in solid(as opposed to the anomalies)and slow because it's slower than the anomalies).

USS FEYNMAN: Tactical Situation

by Colby D. Beck 1-6-1996

Ship's Date 2.1425
Stardate 80105
Scence: Bridge

Jordan was keeping a close eye on Eve and on the colony to make sure nothing snuck up on it. He was still bothered by the power flux between Eve and the other anomaly. Something made him think they were connected. He would explore that on his own time. Now he had to try and find the second anomoly and hope it wouldn't interfere with their meeting with Eve.

As Jordan made a routine senor sweep off the port side, he caught a glimpse of a...well a something. Unsure as to his readings, he did another sensor check. The disturbance, was moving at a speed just slightly faster than the Feynman, and was keeping a constant distance of 50,000 Kms. Jordan decided to test a theory.

"Captain, I've picked up some sort of spacial disturbance off to port. It appears to be moving. Its position has changed along with ours. Its impossible to pin down, but I would say, it is trying to stay just ahead of us. I would suggest a change in speed to warp 8 and a change in heading to 101 mark 4 to see if the disturbance matches us. It wouldn't slow our arrival to Eve, and we could return to the previous heading once we see if this things turns with us."

"Very well, Helm, change speed to warp 8 and come to heading 101 mark 4."

As the ship made her adjustments, Jordan eyed the disturbance. As he thought, the thing was moving with the ship. Its speed increased to warp 8.2 and it heading changed to maintain its position off the port bow.

"Captain, the disturbance has increased its speed again to warp 8.2 and is maintaining its position off our port. Either it is a complex sensor echo, which is unlikely because the sensors are operating correctly, a space being like we suspect Eve to be, or it is a ship with a crude, or malfunctioning cloak. I would suggest yellow alert."

"Can you get any idea of its size Ensign?" The Captain asked.

"Not with any kind of specificity, but it is big, definitely bigger than Eve."

All: Ok...I'm a bit off on the cloaked ship Idea because I was going with Kristen's baby/mommy idea, but this may work.

The two-person security team stood, actually shivered, watching the display on the motion detector. "Whatever it is its moving slowly."

They had been monitoring the unknown for two minutes. It was definitly heading for the research station and although it was only 500m away they were unable to ascertain what it was. The electromgnetic elements in the storm and in the canyon walls which surrounded the station had left the tricorders all but inoperative. Both wanted to get a closer look but the orders from their superior had been clear, they were to wait for reinforcements.

"I think I hate this place." the first one spoke.

"You think! Can you come up with a place that is worse?"

"Well let's see. It's -40 C, visibility is about 1 metre, the electromags make my body feel like it crawling with insects and we've got an unknown on its way. There's worse places."

"Name one...the unknown is slowing."

"Report." A new voice joined the conversation. Both men turned to see WO Kir Tiaman. _________________________________________________________________________

"Any response?" Zane asked.

"No sir." Maril's fingers flew across the board. "However, the lifeform seems to have taken a more 'peaceful posture' I will keep trying to communicate."

Zane turned to the young officer he had assumed command from. "Civilian research station's don't generally have a Lieutenant junior grade in command...."

"I'm from the garrison sir. We noticed strange emanations coming from the facility that did not correspond with the research we were briefed on. I was sent to investigate, but moments after I arrived all hell broke loose."

"What type of emmissions?"

"Unknown sir. We're only a military outpost. We didn't have the scientific equipment to examine them with. Have you had any contact with the Garrison? I can't get through."

"No." Zane frowned. "The garrison is still just a very large question mark."

"I've established contact with the lifeform." Maril announced triumphantly. "I've explained our peaceful intentions and told it the ship is here to help find its baby. It's not sure if it trusts us but its agreed not to attack....for now."

"Good work lieutenant! Forward the information to the FEYNMAN."

[Warrant Officer Kir to Commander Zane.]

"Zane here, go ahead."

[Sir, we found a survivor of the garrison. He claims the base was destroyed and he escaped in a shuttle which crashed just short of the facility.]

"What's his condition?" Zane asked

[Relatively unharmed. We are currently enroute to your position.]

"Understood. Zane out."

Maril and Zane traded a glance. The young lieutenant who claimed to be a member of the garrison force seemed unaffected by the news of the potential death of all his comrades.

Zane was getting worried. His instincts were telling him that not all was going as well as it seemed. "Zane to Lieutenant Koreth."

Silence.

"Lieutenant Koreth. Report!"

The communication broke off, and was continued only seconds later. [Engineering to Bridge. We're all done here.]

"Well done," Paul replied. "Prepare to activate on my mark from the bridge. Paxwax out."

Paul turned back and faced his Operations Officer. "Mr. Ein," he began. "I intend to increase speed to maximum warp and tow 'Eve' along behind us. I'm gambling that if the ship off our bow has such a faulty cloaking device that they won't be able to match our speed. There is also the possibility that 'Eve' following so closely behind us may in fact modify our own warp bubble and increase our speed. We've seen that she can certainly match us warp for warp."

"Aye sir," Ein responded. "I'll adjust the reactor flows."

Paul steadied himself for a moment on the armrest of his chair, and then sank thankfully into it. "Bridge to Engineering, activate now!! Helm, increase speed to Warp 9.6."

"Warp 9.6 sir."

"Sir, 'Eve' has begun to follow us. She has our same heading and speed."

"The cloaked ship is maintaining our new speed sir," Jordan spoke from Tactical.

"Helm, increase to Warp 9.7"

"The cloaked ship is still maintaining our new speed," Jordan confirmed.

"Warp 9.8"

"Still maintaining sir."

The officer at the helm turned in alarm. "Captain, my console is showing an increase in speed to Warp 9.85, wait Warp 9.87 now."

"Adjust your speed then," Paul replied.

"The controls are reading our set Warp still at 9.8, yet we *are* travelling at 9.9 now."

"Red Alert," Paul ordered. "Mr. Charles, the other ship."

"It's losing ground on us," Jordan confirmed. "Eve is still maintaining our new speed."

Mr. Ein at the Operations Console spoke up. "Captain, our ship-based energy readings are climbing rapidly. It appears that in entering our Warp Bubble, Eve has managed to transfer energy both onto the ship, and also to increase the efficiency of our warp bubble. That would account for our increasing speed."

"Warp 9.93," Helm continued the commentary. "Warp 9.94. Still increasing."

Respectfully submitted Cmdr. Paul Paxwax

I guess travelling quickly improves the time to reunite our two teams, plus the time to return Eve to her 'mother' :-) And now, who *is* in that cloaked ship <G>

USS FEYNMAN: I'm Still Here on the Bridge

by Kristen Gant 1-8-1996

Stardate: 80107.1334
Ship’s Date: 2.1445
Scene: Bridge

Counselor Krysa Jenn watched the viewscreen with great interest. The anomaly/creature “Eve”, was following them and it seemed, actually pushing them to get where they were going. Then Krysa had a fleeting thought. What was “Eve” actually afraid of? “Eve” wanted her mother. That much Krysa was sure of. But it occurred to her that “Eve’s” fear went beyond being afraid of being lost and alone.

“Captain. I think “Eve” is afraid of that ship out there. Whatever happened to these creatures was caused by that ship. I’m almost positive of it. It just makes sense.”

“I think you are right, Ens. The two events are definitely related.”

Krysa felt herself tense. They had a terrified creature and a clocked, probably hostile ship following them.

Regards, Ens. Krysa Jenn, Ship’s Counselor, USS Feynman

NRPG: I know it isn’t much, but I am feeling some limitations here on what I can do as a counselor and as a brand new member of the crew<G>. Just wanted you all to know that I’ve had my say, and I’m still here watching and listening.

Colby: Andy pointed out to me that the Feynman is supposed to look black. Don’t know if that picture can be darkened up enough. Don’t know how I missed that in the specs<EG>

USS FEYNMAN: Delta-Tyron VII Science Station

by Max Felsher 1-8-1996

SD 80108.2215(GMT)
ShD 2.1700
Delta-Tyron VII Science Station:Command Center

As Maril continued to scan for any further action, four officers walked in, one leading and two others helping the last.

"Hello," Zane said, getting up. "I am Lieutenant Commander Zane. Who are you?" gesturing towards the one who was being supported.

"My name is Ensign Steven Calder. I was assigned to the Delta-Tyron VII Security Garrison," the officer said weakly.

"Can you tell us what happened, Ensign?" Zane asked.

"Everything was normal. Then, all of a sudden, an unknown vessel decloaked in orbit. They attacked us. We were no match for them. Lieutenant Fielter, our CO, ordered me to get over here and warn you. I did, and as I left, I saw the Garrison exploding. As I neared here, my engines just failed. It had to have been sabotage, sir," the Ensign explained.

"One more question, Ensign. This man has claimed to be from your garrison," pointing to the Lt.<jg> who had been in command earlier. "Do you know him?"

"I've never seen him in my life," he replied.

"This man lies! Do you actually trust him, with his wild account of unknown ships and sabotage?" the Lt.<jg> exclaimed.

As he said this, his hand started to morph into a knife. He walked behind the Ensign and stabbed him in the back. He staggered forward, then collapsed on the floor. "Grab that man!" Zane cried out, trying to carry out his order himself.

As security officers rushed towards the shapeshifter, it again morphed-this time into a Ktarian porcupine. It shot out several poisonous quills, one of which hit Lt. Maril in the arm. Maril cringed in pain but stayed conscious. As the security officers gave the shapeshifter some distance, it rushed out of the room.

"Security Alert!" Zane said over the intercom system. "A hostile shapeshifter is on the loose!" Then, to Maril, he asked, "Are you okay? How is Ensign Calder?"

"I will be fine, but Mr. Calder definitely needs medical attention," Maril replied.

"Why don't you take him there, Lieutenant, since you are slightly injured yourself."

"Aye, sir."

Maril grabbed Calder and pulled him up. Supporting Calder with his arm, Maril walked out of the room.

"Do not worry. You will be pulled from the Sedjera Trench, as Gubali was," Maril tried to comfort the injured security officer.

As they neared the Infirmirary, they met Dr. Tok, who suggested they continue as it would be easier to treat the problem there.

However, as they walked into the room, they saw Dr. Tok in there. Dr. Tok was standing right next to them, yet he was further into the room, near the biobed. Who was Devillus and who was Jekeli? Maril didn't really know.

NRPG: All:Wasn't this supposed to be a simple "mail run"? Well, I guess something exciting has to happen. :)
BTW, Maril should be delirious and/or ill as the poison in his blood returns to a gelatinous state. Does anybody know who the real Tok is? :)

USS FEYNMAN: Travelling Way Too Fast

by Colby D. Beck 1-10-1996

Scene: Feynman Bridge

Jordan stared at his sensor panels in disbelief. This speed was unbelievable. At this speed, the sensors were very unreliable, at best. However, when an anomaly appears several times, its probably there. Or at least that's the line Jordan was feeding himself.

"Captain. My sensors show an anomaly orbiting the planet. Granted its very long range, and our current speed make the sensors unreliable, but I've been tracking it for a bit. It appears like a shadow. Its much bigger than Eve, but from what I can gather, its very similar to Eve."

As for that cloaked whatever, it was losing ground to the Feynman quickly. A sudden energy spike can across the sensors making Jordan jump back. It looked like that ship had overextended its engines.

"Captain, the ship, or whatever, that was paralleling us just had a huge energy spike. I think they had massive engine failure. Their speed is slowing rapidly. Warp 6, 5, 4, 2, 1, sir they dropped out of warp. They look to be dead in space and drifting. I can't tell how they keep their cloak up with amount of energy loss, unless..."

"What Ensign?" The Captain sounded a bit upset at Jordan's sudden silence.

Jordan, mentally kicking himself for losing himself in his thought continued, "Well sir, I've read journal articles about experiments in a new hull design material that is reflective. That is instead of a device to defract light and sensors from a cloaked ship, this hull actually absorbs the energy, thereby making the ship invisible. If Science can reconfigure the sensors, it may prove or disprove my theory."

<<NRPG>>

Gang: I took a few liberties here, sorry if I stepped on anyone's ideas. School is starting up, so my life is relatively upside down at the moment.

USS FEYNMAN: Bridge

by Andrew Catterick 1-20-1996

SD:80120.1730
Scene: Bridge

Zane sat in the command chair trying very hard not to look like he was in pain. Apparently the new bartender, Bat, still didn't believe in synthehol. Zane had forgotten about Bat's habits. He now had a painful reminder. Fortunately his metabolism was fast enough that much of the alcohol had been purged from his system. He'd half to talk to Bat. The FEYNMAN didn't need a drunk crew.

He leaned to his right and activated the small computer console on his arm rest. Quickly scanning the most recent he files he was pleased to se that Onta had, with his customary efficency, restocked the ship from both planetside supplies and those from the USS BRATTAIN. All systems were nominal and the ship was prepared for departure.

"Mr. Barron, take us out of orbit. Increase speed to full impulse."

"Aye sir." the FCO replied.

Zane addressed the TAC station. "Tell the BRATTAIN we are breaking orbit and relay the captain's regards."

Zane's gaze returned to the armrest monitor. He had several choices for the ship's first deep-space destination. He could feel the excitement welling inside. He had grown up on a deep-space explorer. In away he was returning home. Skimming through the files he noticed a notation attached to one from the second officer. It made sense. He closed the file and called up the navigational display. The ship was quickly approaching the edge of the Delta-Tyronn system. Approaching the Federation border.

He closed the computer contact and straightened in his chair. "Helm, right standard rudder, come to new course 247 mark 32. When we leave the system increase speed to warp 6."

"Aye sir. Heading is now 247 mark 32, The Persei system."

<<<NRPG>>>

Just a short one to get the ship moving and to keep me occupied.

I'd rather hold off on any major threads until Andrew returns but by all means start laying ground work or having your characters enjoy themselves etc. Since we are leaving known space it will take several days to enter the new system. I'm sure it will correspond with the return of Andrew.<G>

Kristin: I'm sure Zane will be eager to join any activities that arise!

USS FEYNMAN: Softball Anyone

by Kristen Gant 1-21-1996

Stardate: 80121.1438
Scene: Holodeck 2
Ship’s Date: 3.1900

[Attention: All crew! There will be a Bar-b-que picnic and Softball game in Holodeck 2 at 1900. You are all invited to attend to enjoy this Earth custom. Come for fun and learn a thing or two as well.]

Krysa was pleased with the turnout for her first relaxation exercise for the crew. So far there were so many she had sent a group over to Holodeck 3 with Ens. Demark who had graciously altered his original Baseball program to work interactively with more people. Most of the crew who had joined in were human, but there had been a few crew of various other races. There was one Vulcan who said he was very interested in watching the game, but would prefer not to play.

Krysa walked over to the new ship’s bartender, Bat, who had graciously offered to run the refreshment area. Well, to be honest, once he heard about the event, he demanded rather then offered. He told her the event just wouldn’t be the same without his expertise. Krysa was glad for the help and found his demeanor to be refreshing.

“How are things going here, Bat?”

“Very well, thanks to me.” He chuckled, “You know I don’t think you made a wise choice in inviting me here. Do you know that when I first arrived, this computer simulation had provided me with a substandard grill? Why if it weren’t for me, these people wouldn’t truly be able to enjoy the experience.”

Krysa laughed, “I knew I could count on you to save the day.”

“Attention!! All players to the field for team selections!” Called out CPO Cassey. Krysa had put him in charge of this Holodeck. Ens. Chesterton, her aide, had declined due to the fact that she did not enjoy baseball. She was putting together a list of musicians to begin some practice sessions.

Krysa was watching the crew gather when she heard Bat.

“Aren’t you going to play?”

“Well, I’ve watched the game before, but never played. I think that I’ll sit this one out.”

“Now what’s the fun in that! Go on and play... it’s all a game... just for relaxing. I’m sure you need as much relaxing as the rest of the crew. Now go play and leave me along!”

Krysa smiled at Bat. Then she turned and headed out to the field.

Regards, Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn, Ship’s Cruise Director<G>

NRPG: I am not a very good softball player, so I’m not sure I could write a very good game<G>, so I am thinking someone could help<please> I didn’t write any of your characters in, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t expect you to be there<BG>

Remember that Ens. Chesterton is looking for musicians. I know someone mentioned to me in a post that their character played an instrument, but like a dummy<g> I forgot to write it down or save it, so I don’t recall who it was.... maybe Max?? At any rate feel free to use Blayne to chat about it or even get together a few other NPC’s and make some music. I think that Blayne will turn out to be an excellent pianist<BG> (BTW, I made Cassey a Chief Petty officer and Blayne Chesterton an Ensign with her eye on my job<VBG> as Andy suggested)

USS FEYNMAN: Bridge

by Joseph Baker 1-22-1996

SD: 80122.1028
Setting: USS Feynman Bridge

The Captain sat in his chair as Ensign Jerran Terel came up and reported for duty.

"Ensign Jerran Terel reporting for duty, sir," said the Ensign as he stood ramrod straight at attention.

"At ease, ensign. Welcome aboard the USS Feynman. It's good to have an experienced pilot aboard as FCO. Most of the senior officers are down in the holodeck playing a game of baseball now. Why don't you go down and introduce yourself to them."

Jerran groaned inwardly to himself at the thought of having to go to a social event, but as this was going to be his first impression with his first crew, he thought he'd better make the best of it.

"Aye sir," he said before turning to walk off the bridge. He took a moment to glance longingly over at the flight console, his console. He felt it pulling him towards it, but then noticed that the captain was watching his hesitation with a slight grin.

The captain smiled and said, "There'll be plenty of time for that later, Ensign Jerran. Now, report to the holodeck."

"Aye, sir," he said yet again as he headed into the lift, this time without hesitation.

He arrived at the holodeck in a matter of a couple of minutes after dropping off his stuff at his new quarters. He walked in to see a large baseball field. There were a number of the crewmembers playing the game, one which Jerran had never bothered to familiarize himself with.

Lt. Cmdr. Zane, the ship's XO, saw him enter and yelled out, "New player! He's ours!"

Jerran walked over to him and said, "Sir, I must tell you that I am unfamiliar with this form of recreation and would do little to further your part of the game."

"It's easy, Ensign. Just take the bat and hit the ball when that guy throws it," said Zane, pointing towards the CPO on the pitchers mound.

Before Jerran could say a word, one of the other players had shoved a bat in his hand, and Zane had pushed him over to homeplate. He just stood there holding the bat and looking at it up and down, wondering what to do with it.

Lt. Jenn, who seemed to be directing the game, picked up a bat and showed him how to hold it and what stance to adopt. Jerran reluctantly stepped up to the plate and mimicked her stance.

The CPO at the mound wound up for the pitch, and then through the ball, a fast ball that even though it wouldn't have breaken any major league records, was impressive in itself.

Jerran thought to himself, *All I have to do is hit the ball with this stick? Where's the challenge in that,* as he swung the bat at the speeding ball.

The crack resounded through the stadium as everyone watched the ball fly over the fence.

Jerran turned towards Zane, shrugging as if to say, "What do I do now?"

Zane pointed frantically towards first base yelling, "Run around the bases!"

Feeling most silly, Jerran started off towards the first base, and completed a circuit around the diamond. Once he had returned to home plate, he didn't stop, but continued running around towards first base again.

Zane and everyone else began laughing and said, "No, you can stop once you've gone around once."

Jerran stopped abrubtly, barely even breathing hard from the sprint and walked up to Cmdr. Zane.

Zane stopped laughing and smiled at Jerran saying, "What's your name, Ensign?"

"Jerran Terel, sir. I am the new flight controll officer."

<NRPG> Well, here he is, submitted for your approval, Ensign Jerran Terel <BG>

I hope I didn't butcher anyone's character too much <Innocent G>

USS FEYNMAN: An Unwanted Arrival

by Andrew Nugteren 1-23-1996

Stardate: 80123
Scene: Baseball Game
SD: 3.2005

1st Lieutenant Gregory Williams scowled slightly as he emerged through the doors of the holodeck and into the baseball arena. The object of his attention was the Feynman's Chief Security Officer, Jordan, who appeared to be having a great time in the centre of the diamond. His pitching was incredible, and it was a wonder that anyone could get a hold of his fast, swirling pitches. Greg pretended to applaud as one of the batting teams players was struck out. He snorted privately to himself... maybe half of his disgust was at Commander Paxwax. Without any warning whatsoever, the Captain had promoted the security chief so that the two of them were of equal rank. He himself had been overlooked, and he wondered why, since the Marines had been exemplary since their arrival on the FEYNMAN. Everyone was predjudiced against the Marines though, and perhaps that was why Security got *special favors* from Operations. Like how they were getting more energy per person than his own department.

Stepping forward a few tenative steps, Krysa saw the MCO and eagerly beckoned him toward her team who were batting. "Great to see you," she smiled warmly at him. "Wanna bat?"

Greg considered her offer carefully. Jordan *was* still pitching, and it would be good for the senior marine officer to take on the security officer and win. Gazing into the stands, he saw many of his marines enjoying watching the game. That made up his mind... it would be good for Marine morale to see their Commander do well. He stepped up to the plate and eyed the pitcher. Their gazes locked, and Jordan could see the fierce competition of the MCO burn like fire in his eyes. He wound up to pitch.

The ball came fast and low. Greg swung out at it with a powerful blow just to slash powerfully in the air as the ball passed safely under his bat.

"Strike one," came a familiar voice from behind him. Turning, he saw that Commander Paxwax had now joined the game and had taken over as one of the ref's. He turned his attention back to the pitcher, concentration sharpened.

The next ball curved back toward him, but he managed to get a hold of the ball and smashed the ball high into the air. He began to run, only to hear the voice behind him intone again, "Strike two, foul."

Eyeing the Captain, Greg picked up the bat he had discarded and returned to the plate. Some of the fielders were applauding Jordan's pitches to date. One of them grinned at him, and he recognized the face as one of Jordan's assistant chiefs. He scowled back in return.

The batters on bases two and three were watching him intently as he took guard. If they could get home, Krysa's team would take the lead.

Standing resolute, Greg ignored the next ball which was rather loose, and was pleased to hear it called a ball by the Captain. Maybe Paxwax was impartial, although after the recent promotions he doubted it somewhat.

The next ball was a slow ball, but was coming in wide so Greg chose to ignore it and wait for a better ball to hit for a homer. This proved his undoing as the ball curved in at the last moment, passing above the plate.

"Strike three and out." Paxwax spoke. "Side away."

Greg turned and his eyes burned at the man behind the net. That ball *had* been wise and should have been balled. He began to argue, not noticing Krysa approaching him from the side.

"Don't worry," she encouraged him. "You tried hard, but it was a fair call. You can field on the boundary if you like."

Greg stared at her. "I'd rather not play at all," he told her. "This is a silly game." He stormed off, ignoring Zane who had just donned his bat and was moving up to bat. Paul waved at him from behind the net.

"Our MCO is in a fine mood," he grinned at Zane. "Looks like he lost a bit of face in front of his marines in the stand."

"That's not all bad," Zane replied. "Might bring his self-image down a little; remind him that he's only mortal and not the be-all, end-all of everything. I think he's a little sour at not getting promoted actually, now that he's equal rank with Jordan."

Paul nodded. "Batter up," he yelled, obviously enjoying himself.

Respectfully submitted Cmdr. Paul Paxwax

Hi everyone!! Great to be back after a decent little holiday away from everything. We don't really play baseball here in N.Z. so I hope I haven't stuffed up majorly anywhere above, but I stand corrected.

Joseph: Welcome aboard our merry little ship. Just so you know, the MCO is a little favourite NPC of mine. A little up himself, like all 'jarheads' as Security would say :-)

USS FEYNMAN: After the Game

by Joseph Baker 1-24-1996

SD: 80124.1035
Setting: USS Feynman, Ensign Jerran Terel's Quarters
Ship Time: 3.2300 (Right after the baseball game on the holodeck)

Ensign Jerran walked into his quarters which he had only seen once before since coming onboard the Feynman just a few hours ago. He was actually surprised to notice that it was already past 11:00 pm. He hadn't thought the baseball game on the holodeck had lasted that long.

It wasn't something he'd probably volunteer to do in the future, but it was an interesting diversion which proved usefull in giving him some info on who he was working with on this ship.

He was just about to get a cup of Bajoran honey tea from the replicator when the door buzzer sounded, announcing that someone was at the door. He turned from the replicator and said, "Come."

The door opened and a crewman walked in with a package with some Bajoran markings on it. The crewman said, "This just arrived for you, sir, on a hihghspeed courier from Bajor."

Jerran already knew what it was. He took it and sat it down on a nearby table saying thank you to the crewman who then departed with a nod.

He was surprised that it had gotten to him at all, considering that it had probably been forwarded t oas many places as he's been in the past few days, from Starfleet Academy to Armstrong Lunar Base to Starbase Alpha to Starbase Epsilon, and then finally arriving at the Feynman.

Jerran opened it up reluctantly, knowing that he was going to have to move on to this stage if he was going to be able to work at peak efficiency on his new assignment. Inside the box was a small ornamental altar with a cauldron suspended by some chains. Inside the cauldron was a plasma flame source.

Jerran placed the couldren on the table and walked over to his dresser drawers, pulling out a Bajoran ceremonial robe. He looked at the bottom of the box, and there was still one thing left in there, a Bajoran earring. He took it out and hung it on a small hook on the altar.

He then sat down in front of the altar and began to recite the three hour long Bajoran death chant.

USS FEYNMAN: Observation Lounge

by Max Felsher 1-25-1996

Observation Lounge

As Maril stood up and displayed the holographic projection, he began to speak:

"The Persei system consists of the star 4 Persei, which is comparable to Vulcan's sun in size and luminosity, and is in its last million years of regular fusion-based existence; five planets; and their moons, asteroids, comets, etc. Of the five planets, Persei I, II, and III are uninhabitable, being only about the size of Mercury, Venus, and Earth's moon in Earth's system. Persei IV and V are both Class M. However, they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Persei IV's surface rarely is cooler than 88 degrees Celsius, while Persei V's summer temperature is approximately 6 degrees."

"Are there any signs of life, intelligent or otherwise, Commander?" Commander Paxwax questioned.

"There is some evidence, but the scans by previous probes were rather limited."

"Very well. Continue."

"These two planets are also opposites in terms of amount of water. Less than 15% of Persei IV's surface is covered by water, but 95% of Persei V's surface is water. Given the extremes of these two planets, intelligent life is rather unlikely, although there is probably some life, and even the mountain of Devert can be scaled...anything is possible."

"Persei I is so close to 4 Persei that its mean surface temperature is about 210 degrees Celsius. Even Persei III does not get cooler than 100 degrees Celsius in winter."

"Persei I and II each have one small moon, both about the same size. Persei III has none, while IV has eight and V has six. Also, between Persei IV and Persei V, there appears to be a large asteroid belt, with some comets swirling inside as well. Any questions?"

Lt.<jg> Charles had one. "Are there any cultures which could be hostile towards us? Is there anything we should be prepared for?"

"We may have to make some modifications if we want to travel through the asteroid belt, and there is always the chance of hostile species, but I do not see any major threats."

"You said that 4 Persei is in its last million years. Is that any danger?" Lt. Commander Zane asked.

"Unless the star's 'life' has been speeded up, there should be no problems with that. Any more questions?"

NRPG: All:Well, that's a general overview of the Persei system. I would probably save this post, or take down some notes, or *something* :) as this is pretty vital information. Fire away on the questions.

USS FEYNMAN: Preflight Checks

by Kristen Gant 1-26-1996

Stardate: 80126.2049
Scene: Flight Deck
Ship’s Date: 1:0920

Krysa Jenn walked onto the flight deck. As she expected Ens. Jarren was already there beginning the preflight checks. She knew that he liked to keep busy. She had been trying to find a time to chat with him. As Ship’s Counselor it was her responsibility to keep up with any difficulties that might come up in the crew. She really preferred to be familiar with the senior officers and department heads, as it made her job much easier. Unfortunately, Ens Jarren had been extremely busy, and so far they had not had a chance to talk.

She knew he was avoiding her. She had wondered as to why, but now that she realized he was blocking her as well as avoiding her, she was intensely curious. She was determined to at least put him at ease, even if she couldn’t discover what was behind the sadness in his eyes.

“Hello, Ens. Jarren. Lt. Jenn reporting for duty.”

Jarren seemed to stiffen a bit at the sound of her voice. “Could you take over this panel while I start on the next?”

Krysa nodded and moved the panel. She felt the mind block again. It was just as well, they had work to do.

They continued to work with very little conversation for some time. Finally Krysa had enough of the silence, “I’ve seen the Nova Squadron.”

Jarren looked at her. “You did?”

“Just once. Right when you first started them up again. It caused quite a stir. So I was intrigued. I was still in the Academy then.”

“Um, did you enjoy it?”

“Oh yes, immensely. It almost made me change my mind about piloting again. Of course, I knew that I wouldn’t ever be as good as the Nova Squadron. I had some trouble attaining the level 5 that I did get.”

Krysa paused and the silence began again. Ens. Jarren would not make it easy on her.

The six figures quickly shimmered in to existence in the middle of the small room, their handheld search lights illuminating the darkness.

"Zane to FEYNMAN, transport complete."

"Understood commander, FEYNMAN out."

Slowly they examinined the room. Besides darkness and a thick layer of dust there was little to be seen. On the north wall was a large, double door. The paint had faded but the markings were quite clear, and unintelligable. Zane looked at Maril and Fobok, neither had any readings on their tricorders. He turned to face the historian.

"Ensign?"

"Sir, this room is consistent with a base entry port. Those doors are most likely and access tunnel or shaft to the main base below us."

"Do you recognize these inscriptions?"

"No sir, they don't match any of the major cryptic families although I have recorded them and the tricorder is currently searching for any possible matches."

"Very well." Zane gestured towards the door. "Shall we."

<<<NRPG>>>

Just a short one to establish that it was the moon base we were beaming down to since there seemed to be some confusion.

Andrew: I had decided on 3 for the Away team so the various threads would be equally staffed. Which would also leave a science/tech officer for each thread. Sorry, I was just staffing the away team as an FO is supposed to, I didn't realize you had something else in mind.

Maril looked around searchingly.

"Thank you Mr. Maril," Paul said warmly and then turned his attention to all present. "We are now but several hours from entering the system, so anything you can pick up from your equipment should be logged immediately. Mr. Zane, I'd like you to make preparations for an away team mission. There's not enough data to hand to choose between Persei IV or V at this stage, so we'll have to be ready for extremes. Mr. Terel, I believe you have a Level 9 Flight Classification?"

"Aye sir," Jerran replied smartly.

"Good," Paxwax replied. "You'll be needing to use it I daresay. While the Away Team is on mission, I'd like you to take a team into the asteroid belt. I'd advise you familiarize yourself with our shuttlecraft in the next few hours."

"Yes sir."

"Very well then, stations everyone."

Just setting up the basis for a few threads to keep everyone occupied. Looks like we'll split into three threads; one being the away team on the surface, another the shuttle in the asteroid belt, and the third the FEYNMAN herself. Jerran will be in the shuttle, Zane commanding the away team and myself commanding the FEYNMAN. If you'd like to request a place on any of the three threads specifically, let me know reasonably soon before we actually get going. If I don't hear from you, I'll just post you into one of the threads at random <EG>

Fobok shook his head to reply, then his communicator beeped before he could say anything. He tapped it, "Fobok here."

[Ensign Fobok, report to the observation lounge now.]

Fobok said, "On my way," and tapped his communicator to shut it off, then cursed as he raced out of 10-Forward. He couldn't believe he forgot about the briefing.

Scene: Observation Lounge

Fobok came in quietly and sat down. Commander Paxwax turned and gave him a look that said 'Where have you been?'.

"Sorry, sir, I've..had a lot on my mind," answered Fobok. He knew that wasn't a good excuse, but it was true.

Paxwax just nodded, understanding. He then started thr briefing.

Fobok stood up and walked toward the exit slowly, waiting for the doctor to catch up. As the two walked onto the bridge, Fobok asked, "Any news on Matt?"

Tok just shook his head, "Not yet, I.." and his communicator beeped.

[Dr. Tok, medical emergency in sickbay, it's the boy.]

Tok raced to the lift. Fobok started to follow, but remembered his shift was about to start. He turned toward Paxwax, "Permisson to leave the bridge, sir?"

Paxwax nodded, "Granted."

Fobok then went to a lift, saying, "Sickbay."

Scene: Sickbay

Fobok walked in and looked around, trying to gain some sense of the situation. He was using every bit of training he had taken in emotion control to keep himself from panicking. He noticed one of the doctors, Clayton he believed, seemed to be on the verge if panick. He walked in a bit farther, and said, "Can I offer any assistance?", hoping to be able to do something.

NRPG: Lysle: I leave it up to you what happens next. You probably know from Fobok's bio that he has graduated from Starfleet Medical.

USS FEYNMAN: Jerran's AFCO's

by Joseph Baker 1-26-1996

SD: 80126.2334
Ship Date: 4.0900 (After Jerran's Meeting with Cmdr. Zane)

Ensign Jerran entered the shuttlebay to see that all of his flight controllers had arrived for the meeting he had scheduled, along with the few shuttle pilots they had on the Feynman. There were four flight controllers, including Jerran, and three shuttle pilots in his department.

He noticed Ens. Cartwright's friendly smile right off. She was speaking with one of the older AFCO's, Warrant Officer Charles Dunnon. He looked to be in his forties. Most of the other AFCO's, like Jerran and Cartwright, were pretty young.

As the pilots saw their new department head come in, they all stood side by side in a line in front of one of the shuttlecraft, a regular sized personnel shuttle with the name `Skywalker' on the side. Jerran walked up to Cartwright, the assistant department head, and said, "Report, ensign."

"Sir, all flight controllers and pilots present and accounted for, sir."

Jerran nodded and said, "Very well, then."

"Good morning, everyone. I'm Ensign Jerran Terel, the new FCO for the Feynman.

"I don't like to mince words, so I'll get straight to the point. Lt. Cmdr. Zane has informed me that your flight performance to this date has been mediocre at best. I intend to change that evaluation."

Jerran pulled a PADD out from where he was carrying it under his arm and said, "This is a schedule of simulation times for this week. I will be working with each of you individually and as a group."

Jerran smiled slightly and said, "Now, if you all will ajourn to holodeck 5, we can get started."

Setting: Outside Holodeck 5, Deck 13 Time: A few minutes later

Jerran touched the computer panel next to the holodeck door and said, "Computer, load program Jerran 1."

After a few beeps and whirls, the computer responded, <Program complete. Enter when ready.>

They walked into the holodeck and walked onto a field covered with grass. Off about 50 feet away was a long strip of dirt with six WWI era bi-planes sitting at the ready. There was also a seventh plane off to the back of the strip, a bright red tri-plane with an iron cross symbol on the tail.

Most of the AFCO's and shuttle pilots were just staring with their jaws hanging open. One of them, a nineteen year old looking crewman 1st class said, "What the hell is this?" He paused for a second and then remembered to say, "Sir?"

Jerran simply smiled in admiration at the set of planes on the runway, "This, crewman, is your training."

The rest of the AFCO's and pilots were already running towards the planes, WO Dunnon walking over at a dignified and leasurely pace. All of them were completely ecstatic about the simulation and promptly jumped into an empty plane as soon as they walked over.

Ensign Cartwright said, "Ensign Jerran! This is fantastic! This is a Sopwith Camel, one of the best Allied planes of the first World War!"

Jerran smiled as he walked over to the red tri-plane, "I'm glad you're up on your history of planes, ensign." He jumped into the plane as if he'd done it many times before, and probably had.

The crewman who had spoken up before looked up angrily from his cockpit and yelled, "Hey! Where's the sensors!"

Jerran and a few others chuckled. Jerran shouted back to the crewman saying, "The sensors, crewman, are in those sockets in the front of your head.

"Now, we're going to take off. Try and stay in a single file line formation. I'll call over the comlinks every once in a while giving instructions on what formation to take next."

With that, Jerran waved to the computer generated ground crewman waiting in front of his plane, telling him to spin the propellor to start the plane. With a hefty push, the ground crewman started the plane. Jerran eased up on the throttle and taxiied down the runway. The other pilots followed suit, some a little slowly as they had never flown this type of plane before.

After a few moments, all of the planes were in the air, some of the ones near the back straggling and flying with a bit of wobble in their wings, which stopped somewhat after a little more flying as the pilots became more acquainted with their planes.

Jerran tapped his badge saying, "Holodeck safeties are on, of course, so don't worry about crashing too much.

"We'll start by doing some simple loops. You'll want to push the throttle all the way up, and then pull back, trying to get it in as tight a turn as possible. Remember, gravity is working against you, so try not to stall....

After a few hours of flying, all seven of the planes came back to the dirt landing strip, and not one of them were straggling or wobbling.

The pilots parked their planes, and hopped out, cheering and shouting about stunts they had performed. They were all tired and sweaty, as there was no life support units up there to provide air conditioning to the planes.

Jerran smiled as the group filed off of the holodeck. WO Dunnon walked up and said, "Not bad, kid. You really know how to handle a plane, and a group."

Jerran smiled and nodded to the older man saying, "Thanks," and walked off after the crew to ajourn to his quarters to take a shower.

<NRPG> Now this is what Jerran's idea of a good time on a holodeck is ;) If anyone elses characters has an incling to learn some flying, I'm sure Jerran will be happy to teach them.

Next time, Snoopy Versus the Red Baron! :)

USS FEYNMAN: Runabout Nogura

by Joseph Baker 1-26-1996

SD: 0126.0431 (GMT)
Setting: Runabout Nogura, NCC-66000/G
MD: 1.1245

It had been three hours and 15 minutes since Jerran and Jenn had started the preflight check on the runabout. Jenn was surprised and quite frustrated to see someone do it so by the book. What most frustrated her was that he hadn't said a word since her mention of Nova Squadron. She didn't know how someone could work for three hours straight without saying anything except that which pertained to the pre-flight check.

The silence was finally broken by a comm-signal coming in over the shuttlebay's speakers, [Bridge to Ensign Jerran. We've entered the Persei system. Is your team ready.]

Jerran tapped his badge and said, "Aye, sir. I was just about to power up the reactor on the Nogura. Should take another fifteen minutes to come online completely, and then we'll be ready to launch."

[Very good, ensign. We're launching the probes now. We'll feed the telimetry into the Nogura's computer.]

"Acknowledged, bridge. Jerran out," he said, tapping his badge again. He turned to Jenn who was just puting a panel back onto one of the side consoles and said, "Are you ready, Counselor?"

She nodded as she got up and moved to the co-pilot seat, "As ready as I'll ever be, Ensign."

Jerran sat down next to her at the pilot's seat and began the sequence for the reactor startup. Jenn performed a similar task with the ship's impulse drive system.

After exactly fifteen minutes from the time the bridge had called, Jerran touched the communications contact on his console and said, "Ensign Jerran to bridge. Permission to launch?"

Commander Paxwax's voice came over the link saying, [Granted. No fancy tricks while you're away either, Ensign.]

"Of course not, sir," Jerran said, trying to stifle a smile. Jenn was looking a little worried as Jerran shot her a reassuring wink, one of the warmest expressions she's gotten from him all day. "Jerran out."

"I've only been here a bit over a week, and the Captain already knows me all to well."

Jenn grinned and said, "That's probably why he let me come along."

Jerran simply said, "Indeed," as he raised an eyebrow and began to use the runabout's thrusters to lift her off the deck of the shuttlebay. He eased the thrusters forward to move the ship towards the large set of double doors. It was a tight fit, seeing as though the runabout was much bigger than the normal set of shuttles on the FEYNMAN, but Jerran was able to skillfully pilot the ship out of the bay without as much as a shudder.

Jenn watched his hands fly accross the panel in admiration. After they had cleared the bay, she tapped the comm panel on her console and said, "NOGURA to FEYNMAN. We've cleared the bay and are proceeding to the asteroid belt."

[Acknowledged, NOGURA. FEYNMAN out.]

As Jerran turned the ship around on a slow arc towards the system's asteroid belt, Jenn watched as the FEYNMAN receded from view at high impulse speeds.

Unbeknownst to either of them, however, they were both thinking the same thing. *I'm alone with him/her? How'd I get myself into this?*

USS FEYNMAN: First Officers Office

by Andrew Catterick 1-26-1996

SD:80126.0800
Scene: Zane's Office
NOTE: This takes place right after the baseball game, 15 days ago.

As the two officers entered the office Zane gestured toward one of the two chairs in front of his desk. "Have a seat." He walked over to the replicator. "Coffee, orange brandy, hot. Ensign?"

Jerran told Zane what he wanted while his eyes drifted around the room resting on the book on the first officer's desk, The Epic of Gilgamesh. Zane set both beverages down and relaxed into his seat, he wouldn't admit it but he had pulled a stomach muscle during the game and it was killing him. He sipped his coffee. "Well I know you have a lot to do, so do I, so I'll get right to it."

He pulled out a small PADD from a shelf behind him and passed it over to the FCO. "Besides your duites at helm you are also in charge of the flightdeck, all shuttles and there upkeep. It is up to you whether or not you want to assign an AFCO to split the responsibilities, just see that every thing is taken care of. That PADD contains the information on each of our seven shuttles."

Jerran looked down at the PADD...

CHOOSE ONE:

4 Personal
'Skywalker' NCC 66000/A
'Rutherford' NCC 66000/B
'Schwinger' NCC 66000/C
'Tomonaga' NCC 66000/D

2 Large 'Asimov' NCC 66000/E
'Clarke' NCC 66000/F

1 Runabout 'Nogura' NCC 66000/G

Zane continued. "The runabout has been modified by the marines to use as a landing craft...heavy armour, less scientifc equipment etc. However it is still a naval craft and our needs take precedence."

"Understood."

Zane took another sip of his coffee. "Ensign I have been reviewing your BIO and I must say I am not pleased."

"Sir?" Jerran questioned although he had been expecting this.

"Your BIO outlines quite clearly that you have had disciplinary problems. And I was very surprised to see formal reprimands on your STARFLEET record. That is quite an accomplishment for a cadet."

The first officer paused before continuing. "You are now on the FEYNMAN and are beginning with a clean slate. But, I want to make it perfectly clear that there will be no disciplinary problems, of any nature. Is that clear?"

"Yes sir." Jerran responded.

"Good. Now there is one other area of your bio I was interested in. Apparently not only are you a good pilot..." The first officer noticed a slight cringe in the FCO when he used the word good. Both knew that was an understatement. "...you are also a good instructor of pilots. The current pilots in your department are...'adequate' I would like you to change that. Can you?"

"Count on it sir."

"Excellent." Zane rose signalling the end of the meeting, Jerran rose with him. "Thank you Mr. Terrel."

USS FEYNMAN: First Officers Office (Part 2)

by Joseph Baker 1-26-1996

SD: 80126.1800 (GMT) Ship Date: 4.0850
Setting, Commander Zane's office, the day after the baseball game and a number of days before the Persei briefing

> "Excellent." Zane rose, signalling the end of the meeting, Jerran rose with him. "Thank you, Mr. Terel."

The FCO raised an eyebrow, and remembering he was talking with a superior officer this time, said calmly, "Jerran, sir. My name is of Bajoran descent, even though I am of mixed heritage. Therefor, my first name is the family name."

"Oh, I'm sorry, Ensign. I meant no offense."

Jerran grinned and said, "Think nothing of it, sir. It's a common mistake."

He turned to walk out the door, but stopped before reaching it, turning to the FO and saying, "And sir, as for those reprimands on my record, I have changed a lot since then, and so I can garauntee that they will not come up again."

Zane nodded and said, "See to it, Ensign."

Jerran then left the office, feeling a little bit self conscious because that academy record was able to follow him to his new post. He had been a little hot headed while in his first couple of years at the academy, but that had all changed when Kalani had proposed to him when he went back to Bajor for a summer vacation.

Now she was gone....

USS FEYNMAN: Krysa Volunteers.... For What?

by Joseph Baker 1-26-1996

SD: 80126.1800
MD: 1.0821

>> I leave the decision up to you, Ens. Jerran, said the Captain. After all, it will be your team.

>> Krysa looked at Ens. Jerran, trying to get a sense of what he was thinking. She found a Vulcan Mind Block well in place. She >> simply smiled, Besides, it will give us a chance to know each other under > working conditions, rather the softball.

Jerran was actually impressed with the counselors flight rating. A level 5 is nothing to sneeze at. Most of the pilots in his own flight control department were only level fours, something which Jerran had promised Cmdr. Zane that he would fix.

But, he wasn't about to let on how impressed he was to the Betazoid, hence the mind block. He simply turned to the Captain and said, "Sir, I do believe Lt. Jenn's level 5 flight skills will be adequate for the task at hand, and therefor I will accept her request to be my co-pilot."

He glanced over at Jenn, and she could almost make out a hint of what he was thinking in his eyes which were not as cold as the rest of his demeanor. She could tell by the way they kind of smiled at her that "adequate" was actually high praise from the half Bajoran, half Vulcan flight control officer. But, his eyes also revealed another emotion in there, a much sadder one, which she just couldn't put her finger on. The emotions went away as he apparently strengthened the block.

  • So,* the councilor thought to herself, *Not always on gaurd.*

The Captain smiled and said, "Good, then, Ensign. I'll expect your shuttle and crew to be ready by the time we reach the Persei system in ..." He thought for a moment at the ETA.

Jerran said offhandedly, "5 hours, thirty 2.054 minutes at present speed, sir."

Lt. Jenn smiled and said, "Vulcans," playfully sarcastic at his use of such accurate decimal points in his ETA.

Jerran grinned, with a slight bit of arrogance and said, "Yes, ma'am."

The three officers laughed together for a moment. Paxwax said, "He's accurate, and he has a sense of humor. That's good in an officer."

Jerran turned to Jenn and said, "I'd like for you to meet me on the flight deck at 0930 so that you can help me go over the preflight checks on the shuttle. I think we should take the runabout Nogura as it has better armor than any of the other shuttles, a necessity, I've found out, when traversing asteroid fields."

Jenn nodded and turned to walk out of the observation lounge. Jerran was about to walk out, too, when Paxwax said, "Oh, and Ensign Jerran. As you'll be off galivanting around the solar system with Lt. Jenn, I'll need your best AFCO to take the helm when we're going through the Persei system. Got any suggestions?"

Jerran thought for a moment and said, "I would suggest Ens. Kathryn Cartwright, sir. In the past 11 days that I've been here, I've been performing some flight training drills, as per Cmdr. Zane's request, on the flight controllers, and she seems to be the best one out of the group. I wouldn't be surprised to see her make it to level 6 on her next flight performance evaluation."

Paxwax nodded his approval and said, "Very good, then Ensign. Carry on."

"Aye, sir," he said as he walked out of the observation lounge.

Jerran thought about the situation for a moment. He was hoping that others would volunteer to go along on the shuttle, too, as he did not want to be caught alone with the Betazoid councilor. He had been trying very hard to avoid her the entire time he'd been on the Feynman, citing scheduling problems dealing with work, and not to mention all of the times that he's performed the Bajoran Death Chant in honor of Kalani in the past 11 days. Even though he was genuinely impressed with her flight rating, he was still reluctant about having her on his team. Mostly, he was afraid that she would start prying into his feelings about Kalani's death, something he was trying really hard to cover up, and definitely did not want to let out, even to himself.

He accepted her offer to be his co-pilot simply because he knew that the mission must go on. Besides, the captain was sitting right there watching him. What kind of impression would that give him if Jerran were to just flat out deny her request on the basis of something so unprofessional as emotion?

He figured that he'd do his job just fine if she put her mind to the task of being a co-pilot, rather than her regular job as ship's councilor. He wasn't holding his breath, though, as he had met enough Betazoid councilors at the academy who just couldn't stop until they'd solved the emotional problem at hand. Why should this Betazoid be different?

<NRPG>
Kris: Ball's in your court now <BG> I promise, I won't hurt her feelings untill we're way out in the middle of the asteroid field <BEG>

All: The Nogura's a big ship. There's plenty of room if anyone else wants to come along :) I've got to warn you, though. I've been known to take those turns quite tightly, so make sure you buckle your seat belts <EG>

“Sir,” said Lt.(j.g.) Jenn, “I do have some experience piloting. Not nearly as much as Ens. Jerran, by any stretch. But if he will have me as a co-pilot, I’d love to do it.”

Ens. Jerran just looked at the Counselor. He knew she was a Betazoid, so he was immediately on gaurd. “What kind of experience do you have?”

“I have a level 5 flight classification. When I was young, I really wanted to be a pilot. But life has a way of changing the dreams of youth. Besides my real abilities lie in other directions, however, I still have a fair amount of skill. Not to mention, I do believe that a part of the Command Officer Certification requires some piloting skills.” She looked at Commander Zane, who nodded.

“I leave the decision up to you, Ens. Jerran,” said the Captain. “It will after all, be your team.”

Krysa looked at Ens. Jerran trying to get a sense of what he was thinking. She found a Vulcan Mind Block well in place. She simply smiled, “Besides, it will give us a change to get to know each other under working conditions, rather the softball.”

Regards, Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn, Ship’s Counselor

(BTW, I’m still getting used to that title, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve slipped and written Ens.<VBG>)

NRPG: Andrew, I hope this is okay<g> I really just kinda jumped in there, didn’t I? I figured since it didn’t appear there was any intellegent life on the planet, my diplomatic skills wouldn’t be needed.

Joseph, here is a chance to do some character development and possibly hurt the counselors feelings<EG>.

USS FEYNMAN: RUNABOUT NOGURA.....????

by Joseph Baker 1-27-1996

>> Another one.... Heading 482 - 5... Okay this joy ride is beginning to take on the look of an attack!

Jerran's piloting instincts went into overdrive at Jenn's suggestion that these strange globs of energy were coming in on an attack run. He shouted to her, "Shields to maximum! Charge up the phasers!"

He pulled the runabout into a tight evasive turn as one of the things came by, making another emergency turn just as the NOGURA was about to slam into an asteroid.

Jenn was busy at her console bringing the weapons online. She also tried hailing the things, to no avail. "They're either unable to respond or unwilling to respond," she said, as some sort of energy bolt slammed against the shields of the runabout.

"Hail the FEYNMAN. Advise them of our situation."

She tried to call up the FEYNMAN as Jerran performed another set of evasive maneuvers to avoid the things. After a moment of hailing, Jenn looked at Jerran and said, "We've been cut off from the ship. I can't get through."

Jerran simply nodded, not phased by her words and continued flying. He brought the ship around so that it was following the energy globule on an erratic course through the asteroid field. Jerran was thinking about how glad he was that when he was in the Bajoran Militia, most of his flight training took place in the Denorias Belt of the Bajor system.

"There!," he shouted. "Try and get a shot off and adisable that thing!"

Jenn nodded as her hands raced nervously over the weapons controls, sending out a pair of orange phaser blasts from the side emitters. "No effect," she reported. "But, I do notice a ten percent drop in their power emissions. We have partial sensors through the energy field, and there appears to be something metalic underneath! A ship of some sort!"

By now, the energy ship had regained the tactical advantage and had moved behind the runabout, firing away to try and destroy its shields. Jerran said, "I've got a plan. If that's a ship underneath, then if we can get it to run into one of these asteroids (the ship rocked slightly as another energy bolt struck) we can probably destroy it."

"How about the tractor beam?" suggested Jenn.

"That might just work," he said, getting up from his console to move toward the back compartment of the runabout. "I'm going to have to go back and stabilize the graviton pulse from the beam in order to be able to get it through that energy field. You're going to have to fly while I'm gone. Just try not to run into anything."

Before she could protest, he was already gone and the aft door had shut. She took the controls nervously and began making some standard evasive maneuvers, mostly with the computers help.

Meanwhile, in the aft compartment of the runabout, Jerran was able to quickly adjust the tractor beam so that it would go through the energy field. He tapped his badge and said, "Jenn, I'm activating the tractor beam now."

He watched out the back windows as the blue beam struck the other ship, pulling it along. "Now," he said, "Head for one of the asteroids, full speed. When I tell you to, make an immediate 90 degree turn to port. You'll have to bring the warp drive up to 150 milicochranes in order to get the proper acceleration."

[Got it] came the reply from Jenn, more than a bit nervous as she followed his instructions.

The ruynabout headed towards an asteroid that was about 2 kilometers in diameter, the energy ship in tow, and still firing at them. Jenn was surprised that she was able to sense the gravitational field of the large rock just through the way the ship responded to her controls. The asteroid loomed out her window, and she felt that it was an eternity before Jerran finally shouted, "Now!!"

Jenn pulled the ship into a tight 90 degree turn, bringing on the warp drive enough to give them a little boost, as Jerran released the tractor beam on the other ship. The alien ship slammed into the asteroid with blistering force, causing it and the rock to explode.

From his vantage point in the back, Jerran was the first to see the expanding spherical energy front as it came towards the runabout. He shouted up to Jenn, "Grab hold of something!!"

The energy wave slammed into the runabout like a wall, causing it to begin to tumble violently. Jenn grabbed hold of her console and held on with all her strength. In the back compartment, Jerran wasn't so luck as he was thrown all the way across the small room, hitting his head on the bottom of an over head shelf, and falling to the floor unconscious.

Jenn fought to stabilize the ship, but was interrupted by a klaxon blaring and the computer saying, [Warning. Warp core breach imminent. Recommended course of action, manual ejection.]

She quickly followed the computers suggestion, and watched as the warp core flew out from the ship at a high rate of acceleration to explode hundreds of kilometers away. The blast was enough to slow them down considerably, and Jenn was able to use the thrusters to stabilize the spinning. She tried to bring the impulse drive back online, but the fusion reactors wouldn't restart for some reason.

"Jerran, I can't get the impulse drive back online."

No answer.

"Jerran?" She said, walking back to the aft compartment. She rushed to his side as she saw him lying on the floor unconscious, green blood flowing from an open wound on his forehead. She grabbed a medical kit, but she didn't need the tricorder inside it to tell that he was still alive. His mental shield was down, and for the first time since he had come on board the FEYNMAN, she was finally able to read him like an open book...

<NRPG> Kris: Well, here's your chance to probe Jerran's mind and find out about Kalani :) Don't worry about that sign that says, "Abandon every hope all ye who enter here." That's just there to keep away the burglars <EG>

Andy C: OK, so I lied about not getting a scratch on the runabout. But remember, it was Krysa who ejected the warp core, not Jerran. He's an innocent bystander <BEG>

Away team: Tough luck with that virus, guys. I sure hope you find a cure, otherwise those baseball games are going to be kinda awkward with you guys playing them in decontamination suits ;)

USS FEYNMAN: Bridge

by Andrew Nugteren 1-27-1996

Stardate: 80127
Scene: Bridge
MD: 1.1300

Commander Paul Paxwax was feeling rather pleased with himself. Everything to date had gone to plan and by the book. Zane had requested Maril and Charles to accompany him from the senior staff, while he had suggested that Fobok should accompany them as well. Four was always a good number on an away team.

"All set?"

"Almost," Zane replied. "Lt. Charles is just readying his team and then we'll be equipped and ready to go."

Paul flashed a smile at Zane. "Good. Keep me informed on your progress while you're away will you? It's difficult staying aboard, and I guess you know how much I'd love to come down with you."

"I'll let you know if as much as the wind begins to blow," Zane grinned. "Why are you so jealous anyway? Far more officers die on away team missions than aboard their ships, and besides, you'll have the Bridge to yourself!"

"I guess I just have an adventuring streak in me," Paul surmised. "Perhaps we'll go for a little tour of the system while you're down on the surface. We'll drop stationary radio beacons, so that we can maintain communication despite the range. Good luck down there."

"Thanks."

[Ensign Jerran to Bridge. Permission to launch?]

"Granted. No fancy tricks while you're away either, Ensign."

[Of course not sir,] the FCO replied in a serious tone, although Paul fancied he could picture him trying not to smile. [Jerran out.]

While Paul's exchange with Jerran had been taking place, word had come up for Zane that the away team was ready and awaiting beam-down. Paul farewelled the team from the bridge, and sat back as their respective replacements took over on the Bridge.

"Captain, the Away Team has beamed down to the surface," Mr. Ein reported from the Operations Station. "Also sir, the runabout has left the ship."

Paul nodded. "Mr. Cartwright, lay in a course to circle the Persei system. 80% impulse. Engage! Mr Ein, begin to drop communications beacons at pre-determined intervals."

Paxwax (CO) Terran (FCO) Zane (FO)
Koreth (CEO) Jenn (COU) Maril (OPS)
Tok (CMO) Fobok (CSciO)
Charles (TAC/CSO)

Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing what we all come up with.

>How long til the planet? Asteroid Field? Joseph's post established 30

I do believe that Joseph's said 5 hours, 30 minutes. Oh well, I guess we
just sped up a little so it could fit in with my 1300!

Joseph: Poor FCO, ended up stuck in a runabout with the Counsellor!

Kirsten: Make sure he behaves, and that's an order!!

Andy: Not quite sure where you wanted to explore, so I left it open for you.

USS FEYNMAN: RUNABOUT NOGURA: Comets.....????

by Kristen Gant 1-27-1996

Stardate: 80127.1250
Scene: Runabout Nogura
MD: 1.1310

Jenn had been watching Ens. Jarren with great interest. He definitely knew his stuff when it came to flying. So far the ride had been very comfortable. She was still slightly nervous about the asteroid belt, but her confidence in Jarren was very high. He had even warmed to her a little, not that his block wasn’t still securely in place, but she was in no hurry to break that down. Whatever was behind it wasn’t pleasant.

“We’ll be at the asteroid belt in 10 minutes.”

“I’m ready,” she said. There wouldn’t be anything to do until they reached the asteroid belt now, but Krysa was hesitant to start up a conversation. So far that hadn’t gotten her anywhere. Her instincts told her that friendly conversation wouldn’t be enough to get close to Ens. Jarren.

“What do you think we will find in there?” Krysa asked getting back to the mission at hand.

“I don’t know for certain. There are supposed to be some comet’s in there, so keep a watch out.”

“Now what would comets be doing in an asteroid belt. Doesn’t that strike you as odd?”

“One, perhaps might be considered normal, but several.... yes, I do find that odd.”

“I’m going to start scanning for them right away... cause that just really bothers me.”

Jerran nodded. Krysa focused her attention on the scanners, watching for the comet’s. So far she wasn’t reading anything. But the earlier probes of the asteroid belt had shown them to be there. “I’m not seeing anything yet.”

“Entering asteroid belt in 10 seconds, be ready...”

Once inside the asteroid belt, Jarren skillfully flew in and around them as Krysa continued to scan for the comets or any other odd readings.

“Still nothing unusual.” Krysa checked her calibrations to make sure they were working, but everything seemed to be in order.

Suddenly the runabout rocked, and the sensors Krysa was watching went crazy. The two officers looked at each other in surprise. “What was that....”.

Jarren was still dodging asteroids, while Krysa went back to her sensors. “That was not a ‘comet’, according to the computer. It is more of a mass of energy. It has an erratic travel path, almost as though it were just out for a joy ride.”

“Are you saying it’s alive?” asked Jarren

“I don’t have any reading indicating that it is a lifeform. I’m just telling you, I can not find a pattern to it’s travel path. Hey here comes another... heading 349 - 2... just off the left Nacelle....”

“Gotcha...” Jarren as he expertly flew out of the way avoiding both the approaching mass and another asteroid.

“Another one.... Heading 482 - 5.... Okay this joy ride is beginning to take on the look of an attack!”

Regards, Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn, co-pilot

NRPG: Okay Joseph, she’s all yours. I don’t have a clue what I found here<BG> But it sounded good.

USS FEYNMAN: Away Team, MoonBase

by B.J. Baye 1-27-1996

SD: 80127.1502
Scene: Transporter room
MD:1.1255

Fobok walked into the transporter room, still feeling a bit of pain from the surgery, but this away team was important. A few minutes later, the team beamed down.

Scene: Moon Base airlock

>> The six figures quickly shimmered in to existence in the middle
>of the small room, their handheld search lights illuminating the darkness.
>
>> "Zane to FEYNMAN, transport complete."
>
>> "Understood commander, FEYNMAN out."
>
>> Slowly they examinined the room. Besides darkness and a thick
>> layer of dust there was little to be seen. On the north wall was a
>> large, double door. The paint had faded but the markings were quite
>> clear, and unintelligable. Zane looked at Maril and Fobok, neither had
>> any readings on their tricorders. He turned to face the historian.
>
>> "Ensign?"
>
>> "Sir, this room is consistent with a base entry port. Those
>> doors are most likely and access tunnel or shaft to the main base below us."
>
>> "Do you recognize these inscriptions?"
>
>> "No sir, they don't match any of the major cryptic families
>> although I have recorded them and the tricorder is currently searching
>> for any possible matches."
>
>> "Very well." Zane gestured towards the door. "Shall we."

As the doorway opened, the tricorders picked something up. Maril and Fobok noticed at the same time.

"Sir" they said, almost in unison

Zane turned, and Fobok let the Second Officer explain, as he started an analasys.

"Sir, we're picking up some type of virus," said Maril.

Zane turned to Fobok, "Analasys?"

Fobok looked over the readings, "This virus is similar to the bio warfare viruses of Ona 3. It apparently infects humanoids, and is fatal in 5 days. Perhaps this is why there is no life left here." He didn't let the worry he suddenly felt show in his voice, "Well, we have it. My analasys shows the transporters won't be able to filter it out."

The entire party looked at each other a minute, then Fobok continued, "I may be able to derive a cure, if I could access more advanced equipment, like a lab of some type."

"A virus? And we've contracted it?" Lt.<jg> Charles sounded worried.

"Yes. All of us...except for you, Commander," Maril answered.

Nothing. Again, nothing.

"Sir, the metals in this section may be obstructing our communicator signals," Ensign Fobok reported.

"We may not have to worry. Although this virus is very painful when its symptoms do start, it takes several hours for this to happen," Lt. Commander Maril said.

Zane thought about it for a moment, then said, "No. We'll go back. I don't want to have three sick senior officers on my hands during this mission. Maybe, Dr. Tok can find an antidote, and we can come back here later. Well, let's go."

"Sir, which way did we come?" Lt.<jg> Charles asked. The rest of them looked around. For the first time, they realized that each side of the room was identical.

"Well, if we stay here, we will be Mayal in the pit. We should probably pick a door and trust to Edyava," Maril suggested.

"Agreed," Zane said. "Why don't we pick...that door."

They all walked through the door that Zane had picked. Soon it became evident that they had not picked the correct door. However, the next room they went into was quite a surprise. A bright green light was emanating from the middle of the room. There were also several consoles, tricorders and other research materials.

"Sir, it appears that we are in the main research center of this installation," Ensign Fobok hypothesized.

"Can we get main power running from here?" Zane asked.

"No, not from here," Maril reported. "However, we can get dimmed lights on in this room."

"Make it so." Dimmed lights came on, and the four officers started to explore.

"Look at all this medical equipment," Charles shouted over to the others.

"Maybe this was a medical research installation."

"That appears to be correct," Lt. Commander Maril said, scanning the green light. "This light appears to be a field containing several different viruses and bacteria. I definitely advise against shutting it down."

"Could it be that the virus we have contracted is one that somehow escaped from the field?" Lt. Commander Zane asked.

"That is a possibility."

USS FEYNMAN: Problems in Triplicate

Commander Paul Paxwax gripped the arms of his chair tightly as a massive shock-wave hit the USS FEYNMAN. The standard bridge lighting blew, and in the pale red glow of the emergency lights Paul saw bodies flying over consoles as they were hit by the unexpected jolt. "All stations, Red Alert," he ordered, trying to bring some form of order onto the bridge. "Status report, Mr. Ein."

The AOPS, who had been flung forward over his console, straightened and scanned his eyes quickly over his instruments.

"Captain, engineering is reporting serious damage to the impulse and warp systems. Minor injuries on all levels. DELPHI sensors are inoperative."

"Ensign," Paul queried the officer at the Tactical Station. "*What* was that?"

The young man looked on edge, and his voice was of a higher pitch than normal. "Unknown sir, origin of the wave is unclear. Perhaps the asteroid belt."

"Captain, we've lost steerage way," the Helmsman piped up. "We're drifting."

Respectfully submitted Cmdr. Paul Paxwax

USS FEYNMAN: Stranded in an Asteriod Belt

by Kristen Gant 1-28-1996

Stardate: 80128.1334
Scene: Runabout Nogura
MD: 1.1345

As Krysa stood over Ens. Jarren’s unconscious form, his emotions flooded her mind. Extremely strong emotions for a Vulcan. But then, he was a hybrid, only half Vulcan. The other half was Bajoran, and they were a people of strong passions. Krysa’s first reaction was to close her mind to the Ensign’s pain, after all, he was unconscious and her reading him could be likened to a rape of the mind.

But Krysa just began to cry. Jarren’s sadness poured out into her. It was then that she realized she was getting more then just emotions from Jarren. She was getting images and faces, and... even thoughts. She was experiencing a link like she hadn’t experienced since before her accident. Even as the face Kira Kalani ran through her mind, the realization of what she was experiencing struck her and her mind went back to that day.

“Good luck, Krysa.”
“Show ‘em what ya got!”
“Go! Krysa.”

Her teammates were shouting words of encouragement to her. She was flushed with excitement as she heard her name being called.

<Next on the uneven parallel bars is Miss Krysa Jenn, age 16, from Starfleet Diplomatic Corps>

Krysa walked out onto the padded floor and gracefully saluted the audience. She had practiced this for weeks. She was confident that she was ready. And she was. As she swung from bar to bar, flying through the air in graceful arcs, she knew that she would get an excellent score. She hadn’t made a mistake yet.

Then the unexpected happened as she spun around and grabbed for the upper bar, it collapsed, throwing her into the metal support bars which were in the process of collapsing as well. Then everything went black.

When she awoke her mother was standing over her. Yet she felt alone. She cried out <Mama!> But there was no response. Shortly after that it was discovered that she had lost all of her telepathic abilities. Apparently as she fell one of the collapsing bars hit her just above the temple nearly boring a hole in her head.

It had taken her 6 long years to get back her empathic abilities. The telepathic ones always remained just beyond her reach. However, over the last couple of years she had honed her empathic skills to a point that she didn’t feel the loss of her other abilities as much. Or so she thought.

Krysa absently ran her hand up to her right temple, feeling the scar that remained. Jarren’s thoughts were still coming at her and as she cried over Kalani, she couldn’t bring herself to break the link. She looked down and Jarren, seeing tears streaming down his face as well. She smiled sadly through her own tears, knowing that tears were a break though. The rush of emotions had subsided, and his mind was more peaceful now.

Pulling herself together, Lt.(j.g.) Jenn began looking through the med kit to patch up Ens. Jarren’s head. She quickly had the bleeding stopped and was checking for signs of serious head injuries. Fortunately, she didn’t see any. But she knew she needed to get the runabout back to the Ship and have a doctor check out the collapsed man.

She started to stand, but paused as she looked at him. She took a cloth from out of the med kit and gently wiped away the ensigns tears. She knew his pain. She knew his sadness. She also knew enough about him now, to know that he wouldn’t want this simple sign of his pain to be displayed for the entire medical staff to see. She stood slowly, as if unwilling to give up the time they had shared.

Then the runabout shook. Moving to the front of the runabout, she found that they had been hit by a small asteroid. She hit the communication panel.

“Lt. Jenn to FEYNMAN, do you read?”

There was only silence. Once again Krysa felt very alone. They were stranded in an asteroid belt. She had to find a way to get the impulse drive back on line. She wasn’t sure she could do it by herself, but she had to try and find a way. Before any large asteroid managed to hit the disabled runabout.

She pulled up a panel and looked at the mess of wiring. <This is hopeless,> she thought. There was no way she could figure out how do get the impulse engines back on line. She had to find another way, before they were crushed. She moved to the pilots chair and managed to use the thrusters to avoid a dead on collision with another asteroid.

Scanning the asteroid belt, she noticed an extremely large asteroid that would be passing very close. It was about half the size of the USS FEYNMAN. Maybe if she got close enough she could land the runabout on the asteroid without too much damage. She carefully maneuvered with the thrusters, trying to get close to the large asteroid. Krysa was getting closer. The surface of the asteroid was coming up very fast. The runabout shook as she skidded along the surface. Finally it came to a stop. The runabouts lights had gone out to be replaced by the read of the emergency light.

Quickly Krysa scanned the damage to the systems... It wasn’t good news. But at least they weren’t going to be crushed as easily. She ran to the aft compartment to check on Jarren. He had been thrown to the front of the compartment by her not so graceful landing. She grabbed the medkit again, and took out a flashlight. She checked Jarren carefully, but could find no visible injuries. Now that they were out of immediate danger she could feel her panic. She sat down and cradled Jarren’s head in her lap. She needed to relax. She needed to clear her mind..... so she began to sing....

Regards,
Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn, Ship’s Counselor

Joseph: Krysa sings an old Betazoid folk song that her mother sang to her when she was scared. This helps calm her down, so she can start thinking clearly again. Poor girl has been through the wringer.

Andrew: I probably wrecked the runabout. Do I have to pay for it??!! Where is an engineer when you need him!!<G>

USS FEYNMAN: Stranded in an Asteriod Belt (Part 2)

by Joseph Baker 1-28-1996

SD: 80128.1910 (GMT)
MD: 1.1345
Setting: Runabout NOGURA, Persei System Asteroid Belt

Jerran watched as the acrobat did her performance on the parallel bars with the utmost skill. He didn't know why he was here. In fact, he didn't even try and wonder why he was here watching her now. Instinctively, he knew this was something he hadn't seen before, so his subconscious mind interpreted it as an even that was happening now.

As she flipped around on the bars, Jerran was able to get a glimpse of her face, and he recognized her as Krysa Jenn, the FEYNMAN's councilor. But, she looked a little bit younger than how he knew her.

He then watched in horror as the upper bar collapsed as she reached for it, sending herr tumbling towards the floor, slamming her head against the support bar. As she fell, though, he saw her face again, and it wasn't Krysa's. It was Kalani.

Darkness. There was darkness all around now, except for the soft glow from the Bajoran moon hundreds of kilometers below. Jerran's point of view changed from that of an observer in a gymnasium to someone in a space suit. Kalani was only a few meters away, performing some maneuvers with her thruster suit.

She smiled to him as she did a couple of summersaults in free fall. he then noticed the small jet of oxygen coming from a hole in her suit. She called out to her, but she couldn't hear him. He tried to go towards her, but his thrusters wouldn't fire for some reason.

She began to frantically grab at the hose connecting the oxygen supply to her suit, desperately trying to find the leak. His own screams were deafening in the small confines of the helmet, yelling out, "Kalani!!" But, if there was one thing he learned as a pilot it was that in space, no one can hear you scream.

As he watched Kalani slowly suffocating in her space suit, the silence of space was suddenly permeated with another voice. A voice that he knew, but couldn't remember at the moment. The voice was singing a song of some sort. He looked around for the singer, but couldn't see her.

That's when he woke up, shouting Kalani's name, frantically looking around to find her, but only seeing the interior of the runabout, bathed in the dim red glow of the emergency lights.

His head had been in Krysa's lap, who was still singing softly to him as she pushed it back down gently. In his mind he heard her say, *It's alright, Terel. I know what happened now. It's alright.*

His head throbbed from the pain of the wound, and he was getting dizzy from the motion, so he had little choice but to lay his head back down. Through the mind link, which was now being fascilitated by her touch rather than the uncontrollable flood of emotions he had let loose on her while he was unconscious, he said to her, *I'm sorry.*

*Sorry for what?* she said, still singing with her real voice. *There's nothing to be sorry about. Despite your Vulcan half, you have emotions, very strong emotions which can destroy you unless you let them out every once in a while.*

He sobbed a bit as he said, *But I shouldn't have let them all out on you like that. It was wrong, and I had no right.*

*It wasn't your fault, Terel,* she said reassuringly. *I'm the councilor. This sort of thing comes with the job.* *Terri,* he said back to her through their minds. *My friends call me Terri.*

She smiled down at him and went back to singin her Betazoid folk song.

Zane frowned. This day was quickly getting worse. He turned to face Maril and Fobok. "Mr. Charles and I will be little help in your search for a cure. It will probably be best if he and I begin to go through this installation. Perhaps we can find some information that may be helpful."

Scene: Corridor
Timeframe: 30 minutes later.

The two officers had spent the last 30 minutes searching what appeared to be the base's main level. For the most part they had found nothing useful, just a number of labs. Coming out to what appeared to be a main intersection Charles noticed a large sign on the north wall. Rubbing the dust away an obvious station map was found.

The CSO had dutifully began recording their progress on his tricorder and after recording the image of the map and a few seconds of corelation the tricorder responded with a hand-held version complete with a 'You are here' marker.

"According to this map, the station appears to be three main levels not including the surface. If I'm reading this correctly it appears that the level we are on is the research level, the bottom level is the utility level and the one in between is command and control and living quarters." Charles announced.

Zane seemed surprised. "Did the tricorder decipher the writings?"

"No sir, but by the postioning of the power conduits as well as room size and quantity this seems like a very safe educated guess."

Zane looked over to the historian, the exobiologist had stayed to help Maril and Fobok.

"Yes sir, that is generally the layout most instalations of this nature take. Each floor specializes and is seperated from the others by a good distance as you can see by the long 'lift shafts."

"Hmm makes sense. Where do you suggest would be a good starting point?"

Jordan studyed the map and finally said, "Well sir, I suggest we move to this point," he said pointing at the map and down the dark hall "there should be an access tube running the length of the base. From there we can move down to the C-and-C.

"Very well" Zane replied.

The officers cautiously moved down the hall, tricorders still haven't picked up life signs, but there was a lot of interference that cut down on the tricorder's range. Just as he had predicted, there was an access tube leading down. Jordan led the way down one level to the opening of the middle level.

"Ok sir, from here, it looks as if the main command and control area is about 400 meters from here down this corridor. The other rooms are probably living quarters and other administrative offices. I would assume there is some sort of medical facility on this level too. It might be useful if we spilt up. I could go to the main command room and try to retrieve logs or other information. The medical bay may have some other useful information.

Fobok started working on the cure, assisted by Maril and the exobiologist. This was the first time people's lives had depended on his extra training at Starfleet Medical. Now he was extremely glad he had taken it. The continued working.

Fobok looked over what they had done, "Well, this looks like it, sir." Maril nodded and extended his arm as Fobok set up the hypo spray. Fobok noticed this, "Sir, you should not risk your life like this. If I made any mistake in my calculations, this will speed up the virus in the subject's body. I shall test it myself."

Before anybody could argue, Fobok injected the cure into himself. He immeditaely fell to the floor in pain. It hadn't worked. Now he was down to about one day to live. He tried to speak, but his lungs felt like they were filled with acid.

Maril started to help Fobok, but realized it wouldn't be much good if he couldn't find a cure. He got to work..

> Hypospray. She pulled it out and set its contents. Here... let’s see if this helps.

> Are you sure?

> Of course, come help me. Lets see what you’ve done to my runabout.

MD: 1.1400
Setting: Runabout NOGURA

She chuckled slightly at his possessive comment, typical of most pilots, no matter what they were flying at the time. She helped him to his feet, just standing there for a moment to allow his head to get used to the quick change in altitude as compared to the floor. His face was kind of pale, without the very slight green tint that it usually had to it, but his grey eyes were as alert as ever as he lead the way back to the forward compartment, Krysa following close behind to catch him should he fall.

Jerran sat down at the pilot's console, bringing up a diagnostic display on one of the panels. "Hmmm, no warp core."

"It went on overload," said Jenn. "The computer gave me very few options but to eject it."

Jerran nodded as he continued to look over the damage report, "Both nacelles badly damaged." He grinned at her and said, "Undoubtedly through the liberal application of a giant rock on the undercarriage."

Jenn blushed slightly as Jerran turned back to his panel and said, with good humor, "Remind me when we get back to the FEYNMAN to schedule some holodeck time to give you a crash course in crashing."

"Let's see. Impulse drive. Doesn't look like any physical damage to it. Some particulate dust in the coolant intakes, but that's a simple matter to back flush it. Why won't it start?"

His nose wrinkled a bit more than usual as he thought about it for a moment as he scanned the redout. Jenn pointed over his shoulder at something saying, "There, it's the fusion initiation laser. It must have been knocked out in the fight."

Jerran raised an eyebrow and said, "You're right." He continued tapping away at the control panel and then said, "Ah, here we go. We still have some anti-matter left. We can send a little bit of that into the fusion reactant chambers along with the normal deuterium fuel. It'll cause a sizeable explosion which may just provide enough energy to initiate the fusion reaction."

Jenn looked down at him with a surprised and worried look on her face, "It may also initiate our inevitable destruction. Are you sure that was designed to do that?"

"No," he said, grinning at her in a sly manner, "but that doesn't mean that it hasn't been done before."

She sat back down at her seat next to him, still worried about an obviously risky solution. Jenn really did not want to become a second star in this system. She then looked at the scanner display, and her worries increased tenfold. "It doesn't look like we have much of a choice, Terri. There's another asteroid that's about 5 minutes away from this one on a collission course."

Jerran took in a deep breath and said, "Well, then. It's now or never."

Lt. Commander Maril continued to try to find out what had gone wrong in Ensign Fobok's cure and how to counteract it.

"Ahh...here we go. Hopefully, this will be enough to guide Mr. Fobok through the forest." He took the hypospray and injected the antidote into Fobok's blood. Almost immediately, there was an improvement.

"You're doing well, Mr. Fobok. I am not a doctor, but your body appears to be holding the virus in check," Maril remarked.

"But you, sir. You need some of it, too."

"Don't worry, Mr. Fobok. I saved some for the entire away team." Just then, the lights brightened and the consoles came to life. Maril tapped on his communicator. "Maril to Zane. I assume you have been able to bring main power on line, sir."

[That is correct.]

"Good. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this now. Maril out." However, as he turned to the nearest console, the lights suddenly redimmed and the exobiologist, who had walked to the other side of the room, yelled out, "Sir, we've lost power. The virus containment field is failing!"

It didn't take very long for Maril to make a decision. "Everyone out! Mr. Fobok, take all of the antidote that has been made. Make sure it gets to Lt. Commander Zane."

"But, sir...."

"That's an order, Mr. Fobok."

As the others ran out of the room, Maril set up a high-intensity forcefield that would activate 15 seconds after the program was initiated. As he wasn't sure that even that would keep them in, he set the environment controls to go to 550 degrees Celsius at the same time. Everything would probably melt, but it was a small price to pay for keeping the viruses away.

He initiated the program and started running towards the door. He was two steps away when the containment field failed. He, was, however, able to get out of the room before anything else happened. As he ran down the corridor, he heard the water in different materials boiling and other things melting. Somewhere on the Command Level, he simply collapsed on the floor.

USS FEYNMAN: Where'd We Park that Starship?

by Joseph Baker 1-30-1996

SD: 80130.2300
MD: 1.1415

Jerran wasn't too surprised when Jenn told him that the FEYNMAN wasn't on their sensors. They had been heavily damaged in the asteroid belt, and the FEYNMAN's anti-reflective coating would make it almost invisible to the NOGURA's impaired sensors. Jerran was surprised, however, when they received the hail.

<Prepare yourselves. The end is near.>

It was omnious and foreboading enough, but Jerran only found it amusing as he had though there wasn't supposed to be any intelligent life in this part of space.

He looked over at Jenn and said, "I guess we'd better send a response."

She tapped the comm panel on her console and said, "You're on."

He raised an eyebrow, obviously not wanting to be the one to talk, but deciding that seeing as though he was supposed to be in charge of this part of the mission, that it would be his responsibility.

"This is Ensign Jerran Terel of the Federation Starship FEYNMAN. We are here on..."

Before he could finish, he was interrupted by the same ominous message, <Prepare yourselves. The end is near.>

He stopped talking and Jenn shut off the communications. "It's some sort of a recorded message," he said.

Jenn nodded and said, "Maybe that in conjunction with those energy ships we ran into were put into the system as some sort of automated security system to keep prying ships out of the area."

"Can you trace the source of the transmission?"

Jenn tapped at her panel saying, "I'll try. It seems like the comm system was the only think that I didn't destroy in the crash."

Jerran grinned sardonically and said, "You'll just have to try harder next time, then."

She gave him a playfully mean look and said, "Here it is. The transmission iminated from the moon base where Commander Zane's away team went."

"Well, we aren't going to be able to find the FEYNMAN without sensors and with our communications channels being jammed, so I guess we should just make way towards the moon and check up on Commander Zane."

"Who knows," Jenn said, trying to sound reassured, "maybe the FEYNMAN's waiting there for us."

The ship groaned slightly in protest as Jerran brought the impulse drive slowly up to full power, heading towards the moon. As his head started punding again from the wound, he knew exactly how it was feeling. The drugs must have been wearing off, but he wasn't about to tell Krysa that. He erected a small mental shield, just enough to hide the pain, but not enough that she might get suspisious that he was blocking her again, and went on flying the NOGURA.

<NRPG> Kristen: I figure it'll take about 20 minutes to get to the moon from the asteroid belt. I was thinking that we might find the FEYNMAN on the way there, maybe in the middle of a battle with one of those energy ships. Do what you want, though :) Oh, and BTW, thanks for rebouncing your last post. My mail server must have been on the fritz, or something :P

Respectfully Submitted,
Ensign Jerran Terel

USS FEYNMAN: Away Team. CIC-Moonbase

by Andrew Catterick 1-30-1996

SD:80130.0930
MD:1.1430
Scene: Command Centre, Moonbase

Zane and the historian, Ensign McGivers entered the last unexplored room on the level. The entrance way was somewhat removed from the others and, unlike everywhere else they had been, was preceded by a 20 foot corridor that was exposed to the moon rock. As they entered the differences continued.

Zane slowly turned to look at all the equipment. "Ensign, this is much different than everything else we have seen thus far. Suggestions?"

"I have come across this technology before. It is definitly not the same as the rest of the moonbase."

"Do you know whose it may be?" Zane asked.

"I could not say which race, specifically, but it is difinitly an offshoot of a larger 'parent' civilization, the Briglen." McGivers replied as she scanned her tricoder over any writing she could find.

"The Briglen? I'm not sure I ever heard of them." Zane asked as he went from display screen to display screen trying to decipher what he was seeing.

"The Briglenian League existed about 500,000 to 600,000 years ago and at its highpoint is believed to have been about half the size of the Federation. We don't know if they died out, were conquered, assimilated by other cultures or even if they still exist. Unfortunately we have never discovered a Briglen world. We have found numerous outposts and observatories such as this one and from there have been able to determine the rest."

Zane was a little confused. "Are you saying this room is all they built here? Why?"

"Yes, it seemed the Briglen were explorers much as ourselves. Like us when they found an inhabited planet below a certain level they would set up a covert base to monitor it. We have found bases of this nature throughout the Federation, and the Romulan and Klingon Empires."

"So whoever built this moonbase was being quietly watched by the Briglen and they happened to stumble across this room. Ensign, the equipment in this base can't be anymore than 1000 to 1500 years old."

"Yes sir it is a miraculous find." McGiver's replied enthusiastically.

"Well then, are we able to decipher their writings?"

"I believe so sir. If you could just access the computer from that workstation there I will feed a translation program into the mainframe here."

Zane sat where he was directed and stared at the screen for a few seconds. Deciding that the middle box on the screen was the proper one. He touched it lightly with his finger. Nothing. Undaunted he tried another and was met with the same fate. A few more tries. "Uh, Ensign..."

"Oh sorry sir." McGivers replied smiling "You have to use those buttons in front of you, the keyboard, until I feed the program in. After that we can hook the tricorder right into it and use it as an interface."

Zane looked down, cracking his knuckles. "Keyboard. How quaint."

Nogura: I hope you two didn't take the runabout out there just to wreck it. Weren't you on a surveying mission trying to chase down something interesting. You better find something good to help explain all the damage you've done.<BEG>

Away Team:Enjoying our excursion. Loved the virus idea. The Andromeda Strain of the 24th century!

FEYNMAN:Ominous forboding!

USS FEYNMAN: Out of the Asteroid Belt and Into the...

by Kristen Gant 1-30-1996

Stardate: 80130.1458
Scene: Runabout Nogura
MD: 1.1400

Krysa wasn’t happy about Ens. Jarren’s latest idea. However, if they didn’t try it they would definitely be destroyed when the two asteroid’s collided. She wished there was another solution, but there wasn’t any time to come up with one.

“Okay, just do it then. Don’t let me think about it anymore.”

Jarren set to work deciding on the right mix of anti-matter and deuterium fuel. “Hold on.” he said as fingers began to dance across the panel in front of him. The runabout rocked and shook until Krysa thought it was going to come apart at the seams. “Ha!” shouted Jarren. “We’ve done it! Here we go...”

The runabout lifted of the surface of the asteroid and headed out into the asteroid field. Jarren again set to work dodging asteroids, and within a few minutes they were out of the asteroid belt.

“Signal the FEYNMAN. Tell them we are coming in.”

She tried to call up the FEYNMAN. After a moment of hailing, Jenn looked at Jerran and said, "I still can't get through." She looked at her sensors, scanning for the Starship. I can’t find the ship. Where did they go?”

She continued to search with sensors for the missing ship. “I know they weren’t jus.... Uh, Terri... we are being hailed... It is on a very strange frequency.”

Jarren looked over at Jenn’s panel. “Who’s hailing us?”

“I don’t know. There aren’t any ships on sensors.” She paused. “Well, only one way to tell..” Krysa turned back to her console and began hitting buttons.

<Prepare yourselves, the end is near.>

Regards, Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn

NRPG: okay, okay, so it’s corny<G> But there is definatley something out there with a morbid sense of humor. (ie. Jason’s post this am<G>)

USS FEYNMAN: Arrival to the Moon

by Kristen Gant 1-31-1996

Stardate: 80131.1253
Scene: Runabout Nogura
MD: 1.1435

The runabout had reached the moon and Jarren was putting her into orbit. Jarren looked at her. “We need to think about this. Let’s see if we can put something’s together.”

“You’re right. I have been doing some thinking since we got that recorded message. If what we encountered was an automated security system, why is it only attacking us in the asteroid belt. Why isn’t it attacking us now?”

“You have an idea?” Jarren asked

“Well, only that maybe the moon base is a part of the security system. In other words, a lure to keep intruders away from the real ‘prize’. Maybe what is actually being protected, is *in* the asteroid belt.”

“Interesting theory. Try hailing the Feynman”

Krysa nodded, and turned back to her panel, “Still no sign of the Feynman. I’m going to hail the away team.” Krysa began trying to hail them. “Runabout Nogura to Away Team, do you read me?”

[Zane here. Where are you?]

“We are in orbit around the moon, Sir. There is no sign of the Feynman, but we are pretty badly damaged, so sensors might not be working. However, they aren’t answering any hails either.”

Regards,
Lt.(j.g.) Krysa Jenn

NRPG: I really didn’t know what was up with the FEYNMAN, so I didn’t want to make them close if they weren’t. But they could pop up at anytime.... I mean our sensors are pretty badly damaged.<G> Of course that couldn’t be Krysa’s fault could it??

Joe, I don’t know what you want to do now. Either wait for Andy to post something from Zane, or what. I think it might be time to start pooling some info though. At any rate, I pass along the “ball”<G>

USS FEYNMAN: Away Team: Moon Base

> He then ran in, and handed him the cure, "Sir, this is it..but we've got to go back there..or even just me. The containment field > around the viruses failed, Commander Maril's still back there.."

> He then stood waiting for orders.

Zane hit his commbadge. "Zane to Charles meet me at the research lab immediately." He turned to McGivers "Stay here and gather as much information as possible. Fobok your with me." The two officers rushed from the room, hoping they would be in time to save Maril.

The two officers arrived in time to see the CSO pulling the unconscious OPS officer from the room.

"Report." Zane ordered as Fobok crouched beside Maril, running his tricorder over him.

"I got here about 30 seconds ago and found Commander Maril lying in the middle of the room. I pulled him out and you arrived."

Fobok stood and ran the tricorder quickly over Jordon. "You seem to be in good health lieutenant."

"And Maril." Zane asked.

"There is nothing I can do for him here. We must get him back to the ship."

"Zane to FEYNMAN...Zane to FEYNMAN...Come in FEYNMAN we have a medical emergency." Zane turned to the other officers. "It seems we have another problem."

"Perhaps if return to the surface where we originally beamed down we would have a better chance of being heard." Fobok suggested.

"Good idea. Lieutenant Charles, return to the CIC and aid McGivers. We'll return there as soon as possible."

Scene: Moonbase, beam-down point.

As the small group emerged from the elevator Zane's commbadge came to life. [Nogura to Away Team.]

Smiling with relief at Fobok he replied. "Zane here go ahead."

For the next few seconds both filled each other in on their current status. As was quickly becoming the norm things were growing much worse. "Do you have enough power to transport Maril up to the Nogura?" Zane asked.

[Affirmative.] the counselor replied.

"Good. You have more medical equipment then us. Energize."

<<<NRPG>>>

Just a short one to patch a few things together. I have no idea where any of this is going but I'm looking forward to finding out. It seems we have 1)a missing starship 2)an almost powerless runabout 3)an ominous force 4)an ancient moonbase 5)a secret observatory from an ancient but advanced race spying on the moonbase 6) an infected second officer

Hmmmmm. Where do we go from here:)
