DETAILS NOTES
ASR Website: Star Fleet Marine Corps
BILLET: Marnie Commanding Officer
DESIGNATION: Restricted Line Officer (RLO)
COMMISSION SOURCE: Star Fleet Academy, Officer Candidate School (OCS) and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).
INITIAL RANK: SFA, OCS & ROTC graduates typically as 2nd LT or 1st LT for exceptional academic achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Though not technically in line of command, the Marine Commanding Officer is in charge of the unit of Marines that are directly assigned to the Star Fleet ship, station or ground installation. If the Marine unit is not detached to Star Fleet, it will follow the normal SF Marine chain of command. The size of the deployed unit can vary, from a platoon to a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

The MCO administratively reports to his/her superior in the Marines chain of command and also to the ship/station/installation commanding officer in matters affecting the readiness of the detachment. In reality, officers in this role are treated as another department head and as such the MCO is always included in senior staff meetings. Since they are not in the direct chain-of-command for the ship or station, they are not eligible to take command or hold a bridge watch under any circumstances.

In this billet, you will be expected to:

• Collaborate with fellow Marine and Star Fleet officers as needed to execute all standing and mission-specific orders

• Coordinate efforts with the unit's Star Fleet Security team to bolster defense for the unit.(SEE NOTE BELOW)

• Directly supervise junior officers and indirectly NCOs assigned to the Marine unit

• Ensure the care, maintenance, and operation of equipment, supplies, and spaces assigned to the Marine detachment

• Gain command experience that will serve you well throughout your career as a Star Fleet Marine.

• Instruct junior officers and NCOs under your command to ensure unit training and staffing requirements are met

• Operate as a leader within your focus area and get exposure outside your MOS

• Potentially be detached for other duties such as communications, staff, liason, and flight duty

• Prepare, deliver and submit to BUPERS the annual reviews for all personnel under your direct command, acting as final approver for FITREPS completed for all other officers in your department. NCOs will utilized the Star Fleet Performance Evaluation System for evaluating enlisted rates. Both processes must be completed accurately and timely.

• Provide the necessary Marine personnel (fire team, squad, etc.) for the mission, such as a landing party, gun crews, etc.

• Report to the unit commander and Marine chain of command for the efficiency, operations and readiness of the unit

• Serve as ceremonial and security guards in ships, stations or ground installations.

• Train, equip and qualify Marine Aviators for deployments in squadrons, groups or wings as needed.

NOTE: With respect to the duties of the marines, they are not a police force. The security officers, NCOs and ratings are responsible for internal discipline of the crew. The Marines are responsible for the safety of the people in the unit and the unit itself (ship, station, ground installation). They are NOT, except in extreme cases like a mutiny, used to enforce discipline. The MCO and CSO are expected to work in unison to ensure the overall security and defense of the unit.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Part of the hallmark of the Star Fleet Marine Corps is its adaptability and flexibility in its organization as well as in its heart. As such, Marines will be deployed with the necessary strength to achieve the mission and operational goals as needed.

Star Fleet Marines may serve at any of the fleet units, stations, ground installations or Star Fleet-Marine Corps joint force commands throughout the Federation.

TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT: Star Fleet Marines undergo continuous training throughout their careers, building upon the foundational skills learned during boot camp and "A School". This includes ongoing physical training, combat training, and specialized training based on their specific Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). They are also continuously evaluated and pushed to improve, ensuring they maintain a high level of readiness.
