TACFLEET NOTES
The TYRANNOSAURUS REX-class is the largest and most powerful vessel in the Gorn Hegemony's navy. While offensively inferior to other modern battleships, these craft have over 125% of the armor on a ZEUS-class vessel. As such, the T-REX can withstand a tremendous amount of punishment and still remain combat-worthy. (Intelligence surmises that this magnitude of armor is designed to compensate for an inadequate defensive shielding system.)
The T-REX is armed with a variety of beam and missile weapons, ranging from photon torpedoes to neutron blasters.
The neutron blasters are inelegant beam weapons, roughly as potent as type VIII to type IX phasers, but with shorter range. Like disruptors, these blasters are unable to be tuned to various wavelengths. This is not considered a major drawback to the Gorn; their primary enemy over the past several decades has been the Tholian Holdfast, and the ability to stun a silicon-based, crystalline entity is rather limited.
The torpedo system is fairly unremarkable. Warhead yields are approximately 70% of the Mk XXIII system, and the vessel can only fire five such torpedoes per volley per tube, as opposed to ten for the Mk XXIII.
The biggest threat associated with this ship is not the potence of its weaponry, but the number of weapons hardpoints, and the redundant power feeds to these hardpoints.
The T-REX carries a wide assortment of embarked craft, including approximately 20 combat shuttles. These shuttlecraft are armed with explosive targetting drones and neutron beams equivalent in power to type VI phasers. While easily destroyed by phaser and torpedo fire, and not a serious threat to any capital ship, these shuttles are more than capable of harassing and destroying other small craft, merchant shipping, and the like -- like the fighters on a carrier, the shuttles project the power of the battleship into an entire system, and greatly facilitate blockade and interdiction efforts.
This craft houses 350 Gorn soldiers, their barracks, equipment, etcetera. Gorn soldiers are among the best in the galaxy, not only because of their tremendous strength and endurance, but also because of their incredibly intense training. Where marine service in other navies is seen as secondary to naval service, a Gorn in the Gorn Combat Corps is in every way the equal, if not superior, of his naval counterpart. Only the most physically able Gorn make it through the training.
The T-REX carries a full suite of command and control equipment, and is capable (and usually does) serve as a fleet flagship.
The T-REX is never seen alone. Typically, an escort of at least 6 ships (composed of COMPSOGNATHUS-class frigates and VELOCIRAPTOR-class destroyers) is present. At least half the time, a STEGOSAURUS-class CL or a TRICERATOPS-class CA is present as well.
