Notes:

Continuing the trend toward smaller, higher technology vessels, the
WASP-class Battlecruiser has been designed to be as tough as it is versatile
and agile, retiring the aging CAESAR AUGUSTUS-class with the newest
technologies.

This is one of the most powerful ships in service, not in raw power, but
in fighting and enduring prowress. The combination of ablative armour,
enhanced shields, generous array of weapons, the best tactical sensors,
an incredibly powerful array of computers and the latest generations
of Warp and D-Warp systems make the WASP a true force to be reckoned with.

The new ILN-70x nacelles series, coupled with improved D-Warp
and sublight gravitic plane drives, make WASP-class an extremely
independent starship, with excellent maneuverability and endurance
at higher speeds. It is as able to fly solo as to command a tactical
squadron or even coordinate a flotilla of starships.

The new ILN-70x nacelles have improved Warp coils using a system
of multiple concentrical layers, that provide an improved thermal
reaction, softer acceleration curves and finer control in the local
manifold deformation. Dedicated computer nodes, gathering information
in real time, are able to calculate the Warp bubble geometry tensor
at triple the frequency and almost ten times as precisely as older
models. This allows for faster speeds with less energy expenditure,
allowing for faster, longer Warp travels.

The new Radiation Phase Shields allow for much faster D-Warp speeds
than before. The gravitic-plane dynamic drive provides excellent
maneuverability and accelerations. The IDF generators have been slowly
improving over the years, and new alloys on smaller vessels with
stress reinforcements in the hull, allow better sublight performance
than any older models. While the WASP-class is nowhere near 'small',
the less battle-critical parts have been designed with newer alloys
in mind, making the ship ligher than expected.

While not armed with the newer Xg type of phasers, the WASP has a
considerable amount of firepower. Its 8 type XI phaser arcs cover
most angles of the ship, and XIt type turrets complement the firing
solutions, allowing for even greater concentred firepower.

Independently from these generators, the ship has several pulse phaser
turrets that allow for rapid, concentrated fire on ample arcs, complementing
the normal phaser arrays and turrets.

The WASP is also equipped with the next-generation RAPIER tactical
system, an upgrade from the SCIMITAR system that's been very successfully
tested on the FEARLESS-class Heavy Cruiser. The RAPIER allows for
faster and more accurate deployment, targeting and coordination of all
weapons and defensive systems during an engagement. It incorporates
a new series of tactical sensors, a distributed computing network,
advanced software, advanced electronic countermeasures, and all
available weapon systems into one integrated package capable of
providing tactical dominance greater than the mere ordinance itself
would suggest.

Like the RAPIER's sub-processing nodes, the ship's main computer uses
multiple networked computing nodes to reduce the chance that battle
damage will disable critical computing functions. All information in
the ship's database is replicated no less than three times and the
ship is capable of rerouting all primary (life support, navigational,
maneuvering, and defense) computer functions so long as at least 50%
of the network remains intact.

Ships of this class bear the registry number NCC-980xx and are named
after insects of the suborden Apocrita of the order Hymenoptera.
