Operations Department NPC's
LT Cal Izmadis, Crypto
Hundred-some years old, looks fortyish by 21st century standards, human, not interested in promotion, no personal life. He can make electrons and quantum particles dance ballet within cables and circuits, but has no interest in any other field. He'd take a Borg ant for a boss... so long as the ant didn't get in the way of Wiring Done The Izmadis Way. According to ship lore, Izmadis works 21 hours, sleeps 3, feeds through an IV drip and wears self-cleaning diapers. Electric, of course.
Science Department NPC's
LT Slaari, Assistant Chief Science Officer
LT "Armadillo" Slaari, a male Vulcan from Markus III (translation: forget about "cold" vulcans). Married to Laneesh, a "normal" Vulcan radiologist; a baby in the way.
LT Slaari may be the largest Vulcan in recorded history. He's one of those guys who look like a Mack truck, only bigger. A very nice guy, very laid back, who tends to forget that 1.60m humanoids are not as strong as 1.90m pointy-eared bears. Got introduced to rugby at the Academy and loves to play it in all its versions (rugby, American and Aussie, which I hear is like a Klingon's version of American football); that's also where he got the name. Just transferred from BETA's shipyards. He's always wanted to be in a ship but never got the chance. Suffers from progressive myopia; needs to have his prescription changed whenever he has problems reading 16-pt lettering. Will need to get eye surgery at some point.
Engineering Department NPC's
ENS Danae Kasel, Propuslion DivO
ENS Danae Kasel: Section head, Propulsion, USS Nova. Mars-born female human, fresh from the Academy. Very black, very short, very curvy, natural grey eyes. No previous experience. She knows how to do her job, but will not give 6 if all that's required is 5. Danae's idea of triple redundancy is "two of each will do..." and she often does non-routine things five minutes after they're due. (Yes, we may end up getting broken engines.)
WO2 G'ortee d'Tung, Repair and Maintenance DivO
Warrant Officer G'ortee d'Tung, Section Head, Repairs. A Klingon born of voluntarily-exiled parents in a human-vulcan colony, Federation citizen. G'ortee is very much a man of his word and has a temper, but his contact with Klingon culture has not been much larger than that of your average Fed'er; his childhood playmates' skins came in six different colors and not a single one was of his own bloodline. He has an interest in Klingon history and culture, but not in being called names because of his parents' personal history. If he can't fix it, "it" has never been inside a Solar-class ship. He likes puns and practical jokes, but knows when to stop. Anybody who doesn't respect this guy within five minutes of meeting him has either a) a serious perception problem or b) met him while drunk, when he's likely to climb on tables and act like an extremely large cheerleader, asking people to give him letters and dance "following his lead". Everything G'ortee knows, he has learned hands-on. He is at a point when he could use some theoretical coursework to help his career and his communication skills. Right now, if you ask him why has he set things a certain way, the answer will be "cuz that way it works," which is not very helpful for most engineers.
ENS Alm Ad'herion, Damage Control DivO
ENS Alm Ad'helion: Section head, Damage Control, USS NOVA. A male Aldoran, tall and skinny, pretty irritated at having to take orders from someone his own rank. No previous experience. Secondary training as a Counselor, which should help with the training parts of his job. He should interface with other sections a lot; for example, to set up training exercises where first you teach people how to put out several kinds of fires and then how to deal with burns and asfixiation. Could be a very good second in command for Amaia once they clarify the "top dog" issue to general satisfaction.
Medical Department NPC's
LT Laneesh, Staff Physician
Laneesh is thin and athletic; tall by the standards of any Vulcan except her husband. In public, she behaves very much like a cardboard Vulcan, but cardboard vulcans don't marry guys called "Armadillo."
They met while they were both in graduate school, she for her MD and him for a PhD in Gravitics. Both of them have had moments when they have chosen family before career. Neither regrets it, at least so far. Laneesh is civilian; this makes it easier for them to stay together.
