CHARACTERISITICS:
Zane is generally quiet but often displays a developed sense of humour
often directed at himself in a sarcastic sense. Very determined and can
become frustrated easily. A being of action not patience.
Hobbies/Interests: Reading-political journals, the study of Earth's
International Relations--19th and 20th Centuries.,
Music
Favourite Drink: Coffee, Black
Favourite Food: None...good appetite for most...See Medical File
MEDICAL NOTES:
As the only being of his kind little is known of his biology in
terms of life expectancy, physical norms, life phases etc. However
after study of the subject several areas have come to light.
Internally, Zane most resembles a Klingon in terms of having biological
backups of all major systems. For example all major organs have
duplicates that appear to have little function unless the primary organ
is damaged or incapacitated in some manner.
Of most interest is a small organ attached to the stomach which
processes protein in a highly accelerated manner. The result is that
Zane does not need and, in fact, seems incapable of sleeping. It
appears this organ acts as some sort of internal 'battery' or power
system. To remain charged the subject must consume a substantial amount
of food at frequent intervals. On an average day 8 meals are generally
consumed. When unable to follow this the subject appears sluggish and
begins to lose mental functions. While dietary supplements and vitamins
can be used a steady menu of solid food is recommended.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY:
In 2356 the USS REPULSE discovered a derelict ship in sector
HX-8946. The ship was determined to be at least 8000 years old. Upon
searching the vessel a small compartment was discovered that still
maintained partial power due to a small nuclear power plant. The
equipment being powered was retrieved and studied by the REPULSE. It
was determined that the equipment was designed to keep a fertilized
embryo viable. After much debate the ship's CMO, in a direct violation
of orders, revived the embryo from its stasis. After a six-month
gestation the being later named Zane was born.
As the REPULSE was on a deepspace-exploration mission the infant
was cared for and raised by the officers and crew of the REPULSE.
Primary care and guidance was undertaken jointly by Captain John Clark
and the CEO, Lt. Cmdr Cathy Ryan. Schooling was performed by the
various department heads but it was found at an early age that Zane had
little aptitude for the sciences. It is unknown if this is an
individual trait or one of his races.
By age sixteen it was unmistakable, the urge to leave and begin
a life of his own. It was decided that Zane would be best suited in
Starfleet and thus entered the Academy in 2372.
NOTE: In 2376 (SD:70823) USS REPULSE was listed as missing and
presumed destroyed.
Letters of Recommendation.
It is hard to believe that we found Zane 16 years ago adrift in space.
Since that time we have raised him 'as our own'. I suppose it is
inevitable that he would wish to join starfleet and it is a measure, not
only of or affection but our respect for his abilities that we forgo the
tradition of having an officer recommend him. Instead, on behalf of the
entire crew of the USS REPULSE, WE recommend him.
Captain John Clark
USS REPULSE.
-commanding.
It is with mixed emotions I approve Ensign Zane's posting to ALB as part
of his transition to the fleet. The destruction of the REPULSE has hit
him hard. Not only has he lost his family and his home. He must deal
with the fact that he must truly be alone. He does not know where he
is from or where he belongs. However, I feel that a starship posting is
the best way for him to overcome his sorrow.
Cmdr. Hargan.

23: Attended Space Warfare Officer School, Department Head Course.
B. Background Summary:
-----------------------
Catherine (or "Kit") was raised on Camilo V, a small human colony near
the Orion border. The colony was raided in 2399 by Orion slave traders,
who captured all young children between nine and twelve to sell on the
slave market after they had matured, while destroying all records.
After two years of living in the hold of an Orion ship with other to-be
slaves, Kit was liberated by a Starfleet crew and sent to a nearby
Starbase to undergo a stringent set of psychiatric evaluations and
therapies. After being released from medical care, she was sent to
foster parents at Starbase 20. The foster parents decided after a year
that they were unable to foster a child, so Kit was transferred to
another set of foster parents at Starbase 34. The second set of foster
parents decided, after having their first child and moving to Starbase
25, that fostering would put them at a disadvantage, and Kit was passed
to another set of foster parents.
Foster parents number 3, Rick and Joanne Chang, were staff hydroponics
experts on the J'harra Trading post, and accepted 15-year-old Kit.
During her stay with the Changs, she adopted their last name. The
Changs decided to move to the cruiser YANDA to function as hydroponics
experts there.
Catherine left of her own volition at 17 when they docked at Trading
Post 52FJD8, one of the outposts used for trade between the cargo ships
that putted throughout the various sectors. A few days after leaving
the YANDA, she found a post as an assistant to the staff mechanic.
She left after two years when her mentor left the base and applied to
Starfleet Academy.

V. Skills Profile
------------------
Professor Althea Jamison, Basic Structural Theory, Starfleet Academy
"Catherine is a very quiet young woman who shows incredible promise in
the field of structural field theory and application. She performs well
on real-life problems and has surprising creativity when challenged with
problems outside the scope of the course." 110523
Professor T'Farr, Hydroponics, Starfleet Academy
"Catherine achieved far above expectations in the advanced elective
hydroponics course offered through the Academy. Given her background in
the field in real-life situations, I would expect her to be a leading
expert in the field after more years of study." 111215
Professor Indira Hjart-la-sa, Electronics, Starfleet Academy "Catherine
has a rich history of tinkering in her background and brings her
experience into the classroom with a creativity that I have only seen in
poor trading stations and colonies. Her mastery of electronics and
electrical systems is only a few years away." 101215
Professor Joos T'hins-lighter, Artifical Intelligence, Starfleet Academy
"Catherine is certainly competent in the field of computer science and
artificial intelligence, but she shows her true mastery of the
engineering field primarily in hardware and design. She struggles more
with software-related problems than if presented with a problem that
lies in hardware." 110515
Commander Jerran Terl, First Officer, USS KIROV
"LTjg Chang has proven herself to be a critical member of the KIROV's
bridge crew, often burning the midnight oil in order to achieve the
results we need in times of need. Although she is still growing in her
management skills, she has made large improvements over the past few
months and is very promising indeed. I recommend grooming her for
additional responsibilities in command as soon as possible." 130212
Commander Jerran Terel, First Officer, USS KIROV
"Catherine Chang has proven to be a most valuable member of this crew,
and it was with no hesitation that she was my first recommendation to
Captain Zane for the position of OPS/2O as soon as I found out that
Commander Landers would be leaving to command the new USS FEYNMAN.
She'll have a lot to learn with the change from SCI to OPS, but she's
shown in the past that she has a very adaptable intellect and personality,
and should work out fine." 131205
Captain Zane, Captain, USS KIROV
"I can think of no better individual to assume the post of first officer
of the USS KIROV. Although Chang has recently been promoted to Second
Officer, I believe that her time in duty and her assiduous attention to
detail are both signs of command material. In addition, her promotion
will ensure continuity in the command staff and traditions of the KIROV.
High marks all around to LTCDR Chang." 160112

VII. Psychological Profile
---------------------------
Counselor Ranita H'tra, Staff Counselor, Starfleet Academy
"Catherine is a highly intelligent individual with a history of abandonment.
She struggles with feelings of inadequacy and personal trust issues, but has
learned to control those feelings so as to effectively work in groups. She
tends to be an individual and to be sought out instead of seeking others.
"Catherine also shows difficulty in relating to parent-child relationships,
since she has had so few true relationships of that kind. She also clings to
her identity as a Starfleet member, as it offers her some form of identity
that she can be proud of.
"Exposed to Orion female sensuality at a young age, Catherine is still
struggling with a healthy human sexuality, but will get there with more time.
"Overall, Catherine is an extremely serious individual but gets along well
on a surface level with her classmates. I do not see any difficulty in her
living in confined spaces and would recommend that she be considered for a
ship position in a challenging environment."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIII. Current Recreational Interests
-------------------------------------
Kit prefers to find solace in gardening and working with mechanical toys.
She can also be found in various solo artistic pursuits, but rarely shows her
artwork to anyone. She has few correspondents but writes to them faithfully.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
IX. Miscellaneous Information
------------------------------
Physical description:
Kit is relatively standard for a human female, of average height and above-
average weight, though she hides most of it in muscle. She looks generally
of the right form of an mostly athletic/active female, slightly thicker
around the waist.
Her hair is naturally black and straight, her eyes extremely dark brown.
Kit's face is slim, but lights up in the times that she smiles or grins.
Her eyes are very expressive and she tends to interpret others' facial
expressions as an indication of how they will react to certain news.
She has small, dextrous hands, and favors her right hand to her left. She
has longer legs than torso.
Her ears were pierced at 17.
Personality description:
Kit is a person whom most like to work with but that few really get to know.
She has a hard outer shell - personable, likeable, well-adjusted, and tends
towards shifting between a thoughtful silence and wry grins. She rarely
laughs, but when she does, it's infectious. She has a tendency to be slightly
self-deprecating.
The inside... well, that's where character development comes in. She can be
very scared inside, though she quells those feelings as much as she can.
More on her inside. Lots of confusion that she hides rather well.
Under high pressure situations, Kit has a focus that is so narrow that it
drowns out most other things in the room.
On a long shore leave, she'll visit one or two people from her past - sometimes
she'll visit her last foster parents, the Changs, who are posted on a ship, or
her Academy friend Geri Stavrinski, who is posted as a lowly security officer
on a starbase.
On short ones, she's often at a loss as to what to do, shying away from large
social scenes.
[Updated 050118]
Sometime in the future, she's also known as "Red Fox." Separate story involving
a -very- small crew and Chang as a burnt-out captain, going underground in a spy-
like setting.
There are a number of NPCs that are important in Chang's life. A brief
description:
+ Captain Geri Stavrinski - Mentor from the Academy. Currently
+ assigned
to EPSILON, formerly of the NEBULA.
+ Sparky Hodges - Life mentor and guardian. Space mechanic. Space
Gypsy. All around decent guy.
+ Ty Ripley - Space Gypsy. One of four sexy, telepathically-linked
quadruplets. Likes to use her sex appeal to get exactly what she wants.
+ Jonathan Sesro - Known as "Screaming Eagle" - Kit's former love
interest, currently searching her out after a number of years in the Q-Continuum
(really has no memory, no power, and is currently hitchhiking across the sector,
trying to find Kit and avoid Ty)
[STRANGE HISTORY NOTE: Screaming Eagle, Sparky, and Ty were -all- player characters
from Prodigy's Star Trek RPG called "The Space Gypsies"
that I played in as Kit Saunders. All of these characters are circa
1993-94. If any of the original owners of these characters would like to contact me,
PLEASE DO. When I began playing in ASR, I melded a lot of the alternate versions of
Kit into one new character.]
+ Michael Lopez - 2nd in Command in the KIROV's Marine division. Also
known sometimes as "Raven." Kit's secret boyfriend. (Only person who really knows
is Nik DeLaney.)
+ Jibi - Weird, annoying space creature that looks like Tinkerbell and
has the IQ and attention span of a child on lots of sugar. Picked up in the Dyson's
Sphere incident (cf. 2001 archive). Lives in the Science Labs.
+ USS VERSIFEX - Ship wandering around with a bunch of people Kit will
need to know in the future.
[ANOTHER STRANGE HISTORY NOTE: Some of these characters I made up, and some of them
were real PCs from Prodigy's USS HOOD, which I believe I played on briefly. I changed
the name in a post-RPG story I wrote back in 1994 or 1995. Ironically enough, my other
PC, Maia Biaje, is currently posted on the USS HOOD.]

Physical Characteristics:
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Hazel? (Brownish, green)
Height: 5 feet 11 inches

Just your average human, no outstanding physical characteristics.
Wears hair cut very short. Facial expressions make it appear he is
always laughing at some private joke. Very outgoing, talkative,
personality. He takes his job and his dedication to Starfleet very
seriously although his mannerisms will lead people to believe
otherwise.
Has a fascination with Military Aerospace history, particularly the
Pacific Air War during WWII. Aviation has been a family business for
almost half a millennium as he is descended from the infamous Greg
"Pappy" Boyington of VMF 214, the Black Sheep Squadron. A ragtag
collection of replacement pilots that succeeded in downing 94 enemy
planes during its first 12 weeks of combat. Greg Jr. comes from an
enormous line of pilots and is fiercely proud of his family history.
Also an accomplished holo-programmer, he has written several
simulations depicting ancient military flight with his most prized
simulator being the F4U Corsair and the P51 Mustang. Having just
about every air and spacecraft from past to present, he is always
willing to take somebody on `head-to-head' in their craft of choice.
Having served on the CORAL SEA, now being decommissioned because of
having outlived its usefulness is now waiting reassignment to another
ship.

Minna is something of a bookworm, and doesn't get out much. While she may
border on being socially inept (never even dated at age 32), she has lived
many lives vicariously through books, which are her passion. In addition,
she is an accomplished floutist, having played with the Seoul Philharmonic
Orchestra, and for the two years she spent at Cal Tech, she performed with
the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra as guest soloist on five occasions.

EXAMPLE
0-13: Lived with parents.
13-18: Attended High School
17-20: Attended Ehwa Women's University in Seoul, Korea, where she received
her BS degree in Physics, with a minor in music.
20-22: Worked as a research physicist for Samsung electronics part-time and
played in the Seoul Symphony, but she stayed in Korea out of loyalty to
her parents. Finally her father practically ordered her to get on with HER
life, and so she decided to go back to school.
23-24: Attended Tokyo University where she earned her Dual MS in Appied
Mathematics and Physics.
25-26: Attended California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, where
she earned her doctorate in Physics.
27-28: Attended Oxford University in Oxford, United Kingdom, where she
earend her doctorate in Applied Mathematics.
29-36: Worked for Starfleet as a civilian research scientist at Utopia
Planetia shipyard R&D in Communicaitons. Finally, feeling a certain
stagnation in her life, she put in for the AOT (Advanced Officer Training)
program and received her commission as an ensign in the Science Branch.
37: Completed AOT and ALB Training, awaiting assignment.
B. Background Summary:
-----------------------
Minna Chang was something of a prodigy, though by the choice of her parents
she was only advanced in academic grade once, more than that, in her
mother's opinion, would cause too many developmental problems. Still, as
early as Junior High School Minna was submitting entries to Federation Math
contests, and winning. By her first year of High School she had published
papers in both math and physics.
After a BS, a dual MS and two doctorates, all while playing flute
semi-professionally, Minna felt a strong need to leave the confines of the
solar system, and took a job with Starfleet, which eventually led to her
commissioning through the AOT program.

V. Skills Profile
------------------
Minna Chang is simply brilliant. She was admitted to MENSA at the age of 6,
has an IQ of roughly 230. Her talents are primarily mathematical, however
she has also excelled in music, which in her opinion, is perhaps the
ultimate expression of mathematics. Despite her intelligence, she is a poor
strategist, and is easily defeated in Western Chess, Paduk (Japanese Go) or
even simpler games such as checkers.
She also suffers, or benefits, from a rare condition called Esper-Blindness,
which means that she is completely inaccessible to telepathic and empathic
penetration. Telepaths simply are not even aware of her presence, and
cannot project or read thoughts or emotions. This is naturally occurring,
though exceedingly rare, affecting perhaps one in every billion humans. She
has absolutely no psionic ability herself, and with this condition,
absolutely never will.
She is also extremely well-read, prefering the safety of adventuring in
books to real life. It was two-years-ago, when her older brother was
reported MIA, that Minna realized that she hadn't even begun to live. That
even sparked her desire to see the universe, and while still very timid, she
has done her best to step out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
VI. Recent Fitness Report
--------------------------
I don't know why Cadet Chang is here, as a science post aboard a starship is
not what her education was aimed at. Still, she is eager and while timid,
tries her best.
Physically, military life is difficult for Cadet Chang as she is not strong
or athletic, and borders on anorexic. Still, she is healthy and has no
apparant defects.
Doctor Martin Jarvis
Staff Physician, Starfleet Academy
Monitoring Physician for AOT class 412
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
VII. Psychological Profile
---------------------------
Cadet Chang is very timid and shy, but strangely, my telepathic abilities
are not capable of penetrating her thoughts. She did not test as
telepathic, but it is as though she is simply not there.
Using more conventional analysis, I believe that Cadet Chang is capable of
serving as a Science Officer on a Starfleet ship, I'm just not sure why she
wants to.

VIII. Current Recreational Interests
-------------------------------------
Minna still plays her flute semi-professionally, and actually gave a recital
the week before her AOT class in San Francisco, which was attended by many
of the highest ranking starfleet officers and politicians in that city.
When not practicing, or reading, she is usually researching whatever burning
mathematical or physics question has aroused her curiosity.

Name: Loren Landers Current Rank: Lieutenant Commander Position: COU Physical Desription: Height: 6'1' Weight: 175 lbs Race: Betazoid (full) Skin Color: caucasian Hair Color: Blond, unruly and longish in front Eye Color: Dark Black (Betazoid) Distinguishing Marks: None Additional Remarks: Loren is not a well-muscled man, although he is quite fit for your typical negotiator (see history). Definitely not wiry, but also not overweight or out of shape by any means. Interests: 20th century rollerblading kickboxing (21st century styles) writing short stories Mental Abilities Brief Description: Loren has full Betazoid telepathic abilities, rating more or a less an average score among Betazoids in the implementation and use of his abilities. This average rating is remarkable considering his background and upbringing in the Klingon Empire. History Brief Description: Loren Landers was found on the SS PURUL, a derelict trading ship within the boundaries of the Klingon empire at the tender age of 3 years. The commander of the klingon bird of prey that found the vessel claimed Loren as 'salvage' the rest of the ship being too damaged by unknown forces for any kind of salvage. The klingon commander, Moff, named the pale, injured child Loren Landers after one of the names on the crew manifest for the ship. For Loren this left him to be raised on the klingon homeworld, Q'on'os, among his two brothers and one sister. The years that followed were naturally tough for the young, maturing man. Learningto fight was paramount for Loren, in order for him to just survive. His skin color and physical appearance made him a natural target, thus to just make it through a day without major injuries, Loren learned to defend himself. Upon reaching puberty, he slowly learned more about his Betazoid talents and developed these abilities to aid in his own defense. He learned to not only read his opponents physical movements in a fight, but also learned to gather 'impressions' from his opponents thoughts, thus allowing him to anticipate his opponents moves well ahead of the coming attack. In short, Loren learned how to fight, and fight well. Very few Klingons would dare call him out for a fair fight, as his reputation grew in the social circles surrounding him. Nevertheless, the feelings of isolation grew for Loren, and upon reaching 15, he realized just how different he really was. Leaving Q'on'os wasn't difficult for the child man. All he had seen there was fighting and hatred against him. Deep down there was a need to actually feel wanted and loved. Abandoning his 'family' on the Klingon homeworld, the youth managed to secure passage to the notorious Sirius IV colony, where after arriving nearly penniless, he managed to get hired as a dispute mediator for a major shipping exporter planetside. Staying nearly two years at this job, from ages 15 to 17, Loren then left, tendering an application to Starfleet Academy with the recommendation of Cmdr. Loroque, CO of the SAMURAI vessel assigned to protect the colony on Sirius IV. Excerpt from Loroque Recommendation "...his talent truly lies in his ability to determine the directions negotiations should go. Involving a particular dispute between two shipping parties ready to begin firing upon each other's vessel while in orbit, the young Mr. Landers not only assisted us in settling the dispute but convinced both parties involved how working with each other would not only increase their profits but allow them to nearly corner the market on a particular item. Needless to say, I was impressed by the wisdom exhibited by Mr. Landers at such an early age. I do recommend that his entrance into the academy be welcomed." Cmdr. Loroque, CO USS VIXEN Academy and Post-Academy years Starfleet Academy proved uneventful for the young Landers, passing his classes with average scores, excelling in Federation history and scoring high on the auxiliary services exams. Like all telepahths in Starfleet, Loren took the Telepath's oath vowing never to forcefully read another sentient being’s mind. Following his graduation, Landers was given the rank Ensign and assigned to the USS FEYNMAN as CNS. Serving for nearly three years aboard the FEYNMAN he rose rapidly in rank from ensign to full lieutenant, not to mention the growth of a deep relationship with the ship's crew particularly the ship's CMO, Dr. Mary Mackrensacklar (Mac for short). The relationship between the two flourished into a romantic relationship, which grew even more intimate upon the discovery of Dr. Mac's latent telepathic abilities. Assisting her in controlling her newfound talent was Loren, which even deepened their relationship. Feeling he had finally found that which was lacking in his life, namely love, Loren began to feel at peace surrounded by his friends on the FEYNMAN as well as Mary. During this time, the FEYNMAN on a mission in the Coalsack Nebula encountered a superior Xanthandi strike force and was subsequently destroyed. Fortunately less than 3% of the crew was lost in the attack and escape. As the crew awaited reassignment, fully expecting to be broken up and shipped to different vessels in the fleet, Dr. Mac was given an important assignment in a remote sector dealing with a sudden virial outbreak. Feeling it her duty to help others she accepted the assignment, effectively ending her relationship with Loren. Heartbroken, Loren himself decided to leave anything and everything that reminded him of her, requesting reassignment from the FEYNMAN crew which now had been placed on a new SOVERIEGN class vessel, the KIROV. Loren was reassigned as diplomatic liason to the Isaahi, and subsequently was involved in ensuring a stalemate and brief negotiations between the warlike Reavers, Isaahi, and Federation. After the negotiations had broken down, Loren was left without an assignment, until the opening of the Gibraltar II wormhole. Now that a new passageway has opened to the BETA quadrant, Starfleet saw a need for someone on the frontlines to represent the interests of the Federation in a diplomatic fashion. Enter Loren Landers, first contact specialist. Suddenly, Loren found himself back onboard the KIROV, alongside the crew he had hoped to forget, among those who were the only ones to truly care for him. Unfortunately, this stint back with the crew Landers grew to see as family was very short-lived. Starfleet, within a month of approving Loren’s billet as a specialist onboard the KIROV, recalled him to assign him to a special ancillary group within Starfleet Engineering, the Prototype Spacecraft Test Group. Recently discovered technology, brought by the arrival of a ship once lost in the Delta quadrant for some years spurred several advances in light spacecraft that Starfleet saw fit to further investigate. This group, PSTG, was tasked with the mission of design and testing of new craft. It was still unknown at this time why Loren Landers was tapped for being part of this group as his flight skills prior to entering into service with this group was highly circumspect. Nonetheless, after serving in this group for over 2 years, he sought and obtained a billet on the ship that was once his home, the USS KIROV, with flight skills far above what they had been previously. See Appendix: PSTG, for non-classified information regarding the PSTG. The mission statement of this small agency is to design and test light spacecraft prior to rolling it out fleetwide. In order to accomplish this goal, the agency is given the power to recruit officers of the fleet as needed. MEMO: Cmdr. Dr. Owen Larson, Commanding Officer PSTG RE: Recruitment of Lt.Cmdr. Loren Landers I agree with Dr. Zaras’s comments regarding Lt.Cmdr. Landers. His telepathic abilities would aid us tremendously in gaining more ground in understanding the findings brought to us from that ship just recently returned from the Delta quadrant. I believe that his lack of ability in navigation and piloting can be remedied quickly enough. In addition, from what I’ve heard regarding his recent posting as a negotiator near that new wormhole, he should be more than amenable to our offer. Please proceed with contacting the commander. Inform him of none of our plans for him though. I want him in the dark as much as possible. Provide him with only the information he needs to know. -------------- End Bio chip --------------------------------------------------

III. Biographical Notes
=======================
A. Chronology (tabular form):
=============================
0-18: Lived with parents on Terra. Received standard public
education there.
18-22: Attended Star Fleet Academy.
23-31: Active duty in Star Fleet Marine Corps.
B. Background Summary:
======================
Nik grew up in a relatively isolated region of Alaska, just north of
the Arctic circle. His parents, both writers, had moved to the area
to get back to a simpler way of life where they could raise a family.
Shortly after his 1st birthday, Nik's mother died when she accidentally
fell into a fissure in the ice of a nearby glacier. The death had a
chilling effect on his father, who was emotionally distant for the rest
of his life.
Growing up, Nicholas was forced to rely solely on himself for company.
This fostered a drive to make himself the best he could be, both
physically and mentally. To this day, he is a voracious reader of
anything he can get his hands on, as well as an accomplished athlete.
Upon the death of his father a month before his 18th birthday, Nik
found himself with no ties to his home and no reason to stay. Searching
for his purpose in life, he decided to join the Marines, whose
recruitment slogans promised that sense of purpose he lacked.

VI. Recent Fitness Reports
==========================
"Cadet DeLaney show great skill and dedication to his academic pursuits.
He will certainly do well within the corps. However, his solitary
pursuits and lack of interaction with his fellow students leads me to
believe that this could cause problems later on in his career. Perhaps
the most worrisome indicator of this is the record time he holds in the
Kobayashi Maru test. During this can't- win test, most students
struggle to determine the course of action that will kill the least
crew and civilians. Cadet DeLaney actually bombed a civilian city,
destroying countless civilians along with half of his crew. While it
was a justifiable course of action in the situation, the speed at which
he arrived at the decision bothers me a bit."

VII. Psychological Profile
==========================
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE: Star Date 81215
PATIENT: Cadet Commander Nicholas DeLaney
FINDINGS:
Cadet DeLaney appears to be a dedicated student with excellent career
prospects ahead of him. While not the brightest or most intuitive of
the students I've seen, Nicholas has an ability to apply what has been
successful for others in similar situations to his own current
circumstances.
Good qualities aside, however, Cadet DeLaney's mental state warrants
close observation. His early loss of his mother, isolation from others
and subsequent loss of his father seem to have combined to turn most of
his energies inward. While having no ill will towards others, Nicholas
seems to have no desire to connect either. His leisure activities are
almost exclusively solitary, and his Kobayashi Maru results indicate
little problem with sending others off to die when needed.
I would expect Nicholas to follow the rules and regulations expected of
him, but I would be wary of placing him in situations without precedent
or clear cut rules.

IX. Miscellaneous Classified Information
==================================
Nicholas believes there to be the potential for good and evil in all
creatures. Unfortunately, he has become fixated on the flaws in his own
character. He has come to realize that he has metaphorically bottled up
all his evil qualities into a small part of his own mind that he keeps
hidden.
Having analyzed his own personality problems, Nicholas has become
genuinely afraid to release the darkness near people and has generally
attempted to distance himself from others. Having gotten a taste of the
depth of the darkness he was capable of during his time in the combat
zone, Nik has spent a significant amount of time learning vulcan control
techniques.
His biggest fear, however, remains that he will be overcome by his own
evil nature, and destroy everything around him.
He will follow orders and do what's best for his unit, but he tends to
view his crewmates like chess pieces: Ideally he'd like to keep all of
them in the game, but when you have to sacrifice a piece to win, you
do.
