========================= USS CIRCE NCC-27000 COMMAND SHIP TACTICAL SQUADRON 13 KRIMA EXPEDITIONARY FORCE GOLD FLEET ========================= ====================== THE CIRCE AWARDS- 9/04 ====================== Yes, it's now officially that time. The first of what I hope will become a regular feature upon mission completion is finally here! I know you've all been waiting with baited breath for these...so, here they are- I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did in creating them! Please keep in mind that these are to be taken with a grain of salt- they are very VERY much tongue-in- cheek. :) Without further ado... CHARACTER AWARDS ---------------- ** JACK MERRIDEW CHARACTER AWARD FOR MEANEST CREWMEMBER: -WINNERS: LCDR Ip'sc Carbo (Harry Iha) LCDR Rivenda April (Sean Murphy) It's true that Ip'sc has been out of commission for most of this past mission, but in the short time he's been conscious, he has: - Urinated on the Commanding Officer; - Berated the Commanding Officer in front of other crew members - Alientated himself from most of the rest of the senior staff Anyone managing to accomplish all that in the short time he's been up and about has some serious issues... April has also not been with us long...but has also managed to show us why she is a previous winner of this award on LEVIATHAN. She is plain MEAN. She is a sarcastic, wisecracking giant of a woman...and all that is BEFORE the stresses of battle come into play. This award is named after the seemingly-civilized namesake in William Golding's classic work _Lord of the Flies_ both of these officers, just like Jack, would surely fry whoever stood between them and their objective. ** KIRSTEN DUNST CHARACTER AWARD FOR THE MOST ENTHUSIASTIC CREWMEMBER: -WINNERS: LT Satchmo (Parker Jones) Satchmo came aboard CIRCE and immediately showed his enthusiasm for the job- complete with what has become his characteristic roar when excited about a task at hand. Clearly, if all of the crew had as much pure joy at the prospects of doing his or her job as Satchmo does, CIRCE would be the happiest boat in the fleet. Named for the actress who, in the teen movie _Bring it On_, played a completely over-the-top, super- spirited cheerleading captain. Yea, CIRCE! Whooo! ** WALLFLOWER CHARACTER AWARD FOR BEST IMPERSONATION OF AN INANIMATE OBJECT -WINNERS: LT Tigria Mistaya (Allen Rogers) Through no fault of his own, Allen has not been able to post as often as he would admitedly like, which has made his character take a periphery role in the mission. In fact, as the mission drew to a close, Tigria ended up both injured AND naked. Hmmm... ** SUSAN LUCCI CHARACTER AWARD FOR BEST SUPPORTING CHARACTER (PNPC) -WINNERS: LT Sorrento Tabriz (Austin Forsyth) LT Allen McDonald (Scott Lusby) Both characters are deserving in their own right. Tabriz, the steadfast mate of CDR Kazhdenin, is such a richly-developed character in her own right that she less an NPC and more like a secondary character. She is believable and genuine in her portrayal, a tribute to her creator. McDonald, however, is one of the stranger NPCs in a unit full of such characters. A science officer suffering from OCD with a fixation on the number 3 and its multiples, McDonald is often maddening and frustrating to his shipmates- woe be the waiter who has to serve him in the officer's mess or the junior officer who has to run diagnostics under his super- vision. Named for the daytime soap opera actress who, after being nominated but failing to win the Best Supporting Actress award for like 18 years straight, finally won a few years ago. ** FAIR MAIDEN CHARACTER AWARD FOR CHARACTER MOST FREQUENTLY IN NEED OF RESCUE -WINNERS: The entire command staff of the USS CIRCE Let's be realistic about this here: each of the last two missions has ended with CIRCE and Company needing its collective skins saved. First, on the one and only RP day of Trig Hawker's command (::nod:: Chris Aubrey), the entire senior staff becomes imprisoned by a holodeck wedding program gone awry, leading to multiple bloody and gruesome deaths and woundings, especially to the Austin- controlled Sorrento Tabriz. Then, the Orestes mission effectively ended with the Lehrren saving TACRON 13 from probable destruction at the hands of the Woren, a splinter Romulan group and Section 31. Again, the Austin-controlled CDR Yuri Kazhdenin suffers the most physically from the encounter. Starting to see a pattern here? :) Perhaps the next mission won't require our rescue en masse...or require major reconstructive surgery for Kazhdenin. :) ** JOHN STEINBECK CHARACTER AWARD FOR BEST-LAID PLAN -WINNER: CDR Bregan D'Artgnan (Josh Young) For "Operation: Parrot Talk"- Josh was the primary creator of the ultimately successful idea to overcome the problem of communicating with the crew in the holodeck. Josh decided that the Wildlife Generation program would do just fine- and thusly communicated the newly-arrived CAPT Veld's intentions through a squaking albatross. ** GEORDI LAFORGE CHARACTER AWARD FOR MOST FLUENT TECHNOBABBLE -WINNERS: LCDR Rivenda April (Sean Murphy) CDR Yuri Kazhdenin (Austin Forsyth) LT Tigria Mistaya (Alan Rogers) Each of these three players frequently make use of their technical abilities to essentially talk circles around the rest of us. Whether or not what they say would technically work is besides the point- they never allow reality to get in the way of a good story. Well, except maybe Austin- more on that later... ** HARRY STAMPER CHARACTER AWARD FOR HEROIC SACRIFICE -WINNER: CDR Yuri Kazhdenin (Austin Forsyth) Kazhdenin is never one to allow others to suffer without him; he willingly throws himself headlong into battle for 'tsar and country' without thinking of the consequences to himself. As a result, he is now missing a knee. Nmed for the Bruce Willis character from _Armageddon_, who gave his life so all of humanity could be saved. So damned heroic... ::sniffle:: ** "CURLY" NEIL CHARACTER AWARD FOR MOST IRONIC NICKNAME -WINNER: Dr. Daniel Wannaya (Jason Zitzka) Wannaya is not the doctor most would assume him to be, nor is he merely the doctor Starfleet trained him to be. Wannaya happens to be a witchdoctor, who keeps what amounts to voodoo dolls of the crew locked up and employs a spirit named Ramos to help watch over him and the crew. Clearly not your classic doctor... Named for the former point guard of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, who happened to be bald. PLAYER AWARDS ------------- ** SHERLOCK HOLMES PLAYER AWARD FOR ATTENTION TO DETAIL -WINNER: Austin Forsyth Austin has been given (by himself, to boot) the unofficial title of the unit's 'picker of nits' for his habit of pointing out the details (written mostly by me, I think) that seem to contradict one thing or another. While most of the time his nitpicking is on the money, at times he has been known to get a bit carried away...especially behind- the-scenes. <BG- ::wave:: Hi Austin!> Named for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous literary detective, who was most known for applying scientific methodology to crime solving. ** 'SLASH' PLAYER AWARD FOR MOST VERSATILE PLAYER -WINNER: Eric Boyum (LT Douglas McKnight- ENG/CSciO); (LCDR Arthur Drake, COU) McKnight began the "Holodeck-from-Hell" mission as the unit's Chief Engineer. However, the arrival of veteran Scott Freligh and his PC, LCDR Robert Snow, to CIRCE brought about McKnight's voluntary move to Chief of Sciences. But a subplot idea brought about another move for McKnight- this one completely off CIRCE and into the hands of an enemy- the Maquis. McKnight was replaced in Sciences by ENS Ijilaao (Aaron Decker), which brought about a switch to COU for Eric and the introduction of another character, LCDR Arthur Drake. Joking aside, Eric porved himself to be a true team player by working with the command staff to make the best fits for everone involved. I don't think most of us can ever say we took on three different billets in the same unit without one being a promotion of sorts; none of Eric's moves was the result of a player promotion. Such ideals are to be commended. Named for Kordell Stewart, the former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers who was given the nickname for his ability to play multiple positions: "quarterback slash wide receiver slash defensive back." SPECIAL/MAJOR AWARDS -------------------- And, finally, the most coveted of player/character awards.... ** DOCTOR MORIARTY AWARD FOR THE MOST EVIL CHARACTER: -WINNER: CDOR Collin Weasley (Noah Eaton) CDOR Weasley, while ultimately unsuccessful, was a devious and dangerous enemy- one whose dangerousness is multiplied by his personal agenda against Cayle Veld. It was him who engineered the trap into which CIRCE and the rest of the TACRON walked...and almost didn't return from. Surely this setback will only fan the flames of his anger and bring him back twice as strong and equally vindictive. Kudos to Noah for creating the warped mind of Collin Weasley. :) Named for the infamous, brilliant Dr. Moriarty of Sherlock Holmes fame, who proved himself more than a match for the erstwhile detective. ** IAGO AWARD FOR MOST EVIL PLAYER -WINNERS: Noah Eaton Sean Murphy Noah Eaton is nominated here for the creation of a character who, while unable to unleash his full evilness as of yet, has proven to be a cunning and vindictive character: CDOR Collin Weasley. Somehow, given Cayle's history with Section 31, I think we'll see Weasley again. Sean is nominated for 'general evilness.' In his short time on CIRCE, he engineered the destruction of a major installation (Orestes Station), initiated the destruction of one of our escorts (USS THOTH), and wrecked general havoc on all from Engineering. I shudder to think what will happen now that he has a full mission to plot and twist from... Named for one of the most despicable and evil characters in literature. Iago, the chief lieutenant of Othello, would betray him for the love of the fair Desdemona in ruthless fashion. If anyone wants to learn how to be truly evil down to the core, I recommend reading Shakespeare's _Othello_, paying particular attention to Iago. When it all comes down to it, this unit is a TEAM. The fact that each and every crewmember succeeded in contributing to the advancement of the story and/or the richness and color of life aboard the CIRCE in their own way is exemplified in these awards. Laugh about them and have fun with them, and we'll have more after the next mission. Remember, the categories are ALWAYS changing... <BG>
