B. Background Summary
- Tatiana never gave any thought to a career in the military as a child, rather she was groomed from a very young age to be a ballerina at St. Petersburg’s prestigious Mariinsky Theatre’s resident ballet company, just like her mother and grandmother before her. At age 18 she was accepted into the company and by 23 was one of the prima ballerinas of the company and often danced in starring roles as a guest of other companies worldwide. She also attended the St. Petersburg University of the Arts from age 18 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in classical dance at age 22.
- At 27 she married Koji Saito, a violinist with the Mariinsky Ballet Company orchestra after dating for two years. Within a year of marriage the couple welcomed twin daughters into the world. It was an idyllic life until a few months short of a decade later the Xindi probe preemptively attacked earth, destroying everything in a wide swath from Florida to Venezuela leaving millions dead in it’s path, including Tatiana’s husband and daughters who were spending the day at Disneyworld while Tatiana was in Chicago practicing for a guest staring role as the Swan Queen with the Joffrey Ballet.
- A few weeks later submitted an application to Starfleet Academy and despite her age of 37, nearly 20-years- older than the other cadets in her class, she was accepted after her father-in-law, Rear Admiral Ichiro Saito pulled a few strings. Tatiana still had another year to go in her academy program when the Romulans attacked, and along with most other third and fourth year cadets who were given the option of early graduation and commissioning, she accepted and was assigned as an assistant armory officer on USS Columbia, the second of the fleet’s cutting edge NX-class Warp 5 starships.
- Tatiana served with distinction through every major campaign and battle during the Earth Romulan War until the battle of Charon right before the armistice was signed. While she’d been lucky in avoiding serious injury despite being in the thick of battle for four full years, she was badly injured at Charon, where her ship, the USS Athena, NX-07 was listed as lost, presumed destroyed.
- Tatiana was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star and Purple Heart, as well as posthumously promoted from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander. In truth, Athena was definitely lost, but was not quite destroyed. As the batterd hulk of the once proud N-class staship attempted to warp away from a sister-ship that was about to breach she took a hit by a Romulan disruptor to the port nacelle at the precise instant the warp field was formed. The resulting imbalance created an artificial wormhole that took USS Athena and some of the debris from the exploding USS Cumberland on a very short hop to a completely uncharted and unknown region of space.
- Athena emerged from the wormhole even more of a shambles than she was on entering it. Almost all systems were out, including life propulsion, shields, weapons, sensor, comms and even life support. Miraculously, the warp drive was essentially undamaged, though with the port nacelle sheered completely off the engine could produce ambundant power, but had no means of converting that power into motion. With no sensors. a finite supply of breathable and most of the crew dead, Lieutenant Akiko Oda, the Athena’s science officer took command of the what little was left and ordered all of the few remaining survivors into the stasis pods.
- Tatiana was one of the last to activate her stasis tube, and 268-years-later was one of the last revived due to damage to her stasis tube’s revival package. After a full year in medical, Tatiana applied to and was accepted to Starfleet academy, and on graduation made sure that she was always assigned to a ship with an exploration mission, due in no small part to “Out There” being the only “place” that hadn’t moved on and left her almost three centuries behind.
C. Personality Summary
- Tenacious:
Tatiana has essentially unlimited willpower. After the death of her husband and children everything that mattered in her life was ripped away, to be replaced initially by a desire for vengeance. That desire was redirected by the Navy Academy’s faculty and counseling staff into a sense of responsibility to protect those who could not protect themselves, which remained her driving force through the Earth Romulan War.
Upon revival in the 25 th century she followed the example of her shipmate Akiko Oda and applied to Starfleet academy. While her 25 th century service has been far less dangerous, her protective instincts remain sharp, as does the limitless well of inner strength.
- Strategist and Analyst:
Tatiana completed the most advanced tactics and strategy courses that the fleets of both the 22 nd and 25 th centuries had to offer. More than book smarts, however, she was the armory (security/tactical) for all four years of the Earth-Romulan War and has more real-world combat experience than almost anyone else alive other than her former shipmate Akiko Oda, who fought the same battles.
- Living Legend or Anachronism:
The “Romulan War Campaign” ribbon on her uniform is enough to get admirals to buy her drinks everywhere she’s goes, but she is also constantly haunted by her 22 nd century origins. From the innate distrust that many superiors and subordinates alike have for someone who’s initial training and education occurred before the Federation Charter was even signed, to her own occasional encounters with thoughts, knowledge or experience that the rest of the universe shares, but which she essentially slept through.

V. SKILLS PROFILE
Tatiana is an outstanding shot with a phaser as well as highly skilled with projectile and bladed weapons and in hand-to-hand combat (Aikido, Karate, Kenjutsu). She is strong and fast as befits a world-class athlete (ballerina) and veteran of the entirety of the Earth-Romulan war.
Tatiana is also skilled in Japanese tea ceremony, which she learned from her mother-in-law.
VI. RECENT FITNESS REPORTS
- Tatiana Pavlova is in excellent health, though she does suffer from arthritic pain in her left knee and hip resulting from primitive healing of serious serious injuries during the 22nd century. She is physically strong and possesses exceptional flexibility and endurance. While she is physiologically 53-years old, she has the strength, flexibility and endurance of an athletic woman half her age.
VIII. CURRENT RECREATIONAL INTERESTS
Since her revival in the 25th century Tatiana has not really pursued any recreational interests at all, rather she attacked her fitness regimen with a focus bordering on manic and when not pushing herself physically, worked hard to try and narrow the gap between her 22nd century knowledge and future she woke up in.
She did recently return to dance, though far past the age where professional dance in starring roles is possible, she has managed to quickly return to a level that could easily join almost ballet company as an ensemble dancer.
IX. MISCELANEOUS INFORMATION
Tatiana’s sister-in-law, Etsuko Saito, served with Tatiana on each and every ship in both the 22nd and 25th centuries and is currently a newly promoted Lieutenant Commander, assigned as assistant chief nurse on USS Sagan. Etsuko is the younger sister of Tatiana’s late husband, and is either 34 or 302-years-ago, depending on whether one counts the almost 2 3/4 centuries that both she and Tatiana spent in cryostasis from the end of the Earth-Romulan War. The two of them are very close, speak exclusively in Etsuko’s native and Tatiana’s highly fluent though Russian-accented Japanese when it is just the two of them.
Another of USS Athena’s survivors, Ivan Milenko returned to Starfleet service upon his revival in the 25th century, though not until a number of legal actions to restore many of the honors and one privilege he wished for himself and his shipmates. Specifically the reinstatement of all awards and the right to wear them in their 22nd century form as well as the right to wear their 22nd century dress uniform in formal occasions.
Tatiana has also had managed to keep the Mk. 1 Phase Pistol issued to her upon early graduation from United Earth Fleet Academy in 2155 and carries it instead of its 25th century equivalent on all away missions. The weapon, like Tatiana herself, bears many scars from its hard service during the Earth-Romulan War. It has also been accurized with a hand-polished collimator lens, improved charge coils and rebuilt batteries using current 25th century storage cells. It has roughly equal range, power and accuracy to a modern 25th century phaser, though it lacks any settings other than “Stun” and “Kill”, with no settings for heat, wide dispersion or other specialized functions.
Tatiana’s niece, Irina Pavlova, served in Starfleet in the early 2170s on USS Columbia, NX-03, which was lost in a similar fashion to Tatiana’s USS Athena two decades earlier. Unlike Tatiana who spend the intervening three centuries in stasis, Irina Pavlova spent the time on the planet Kjenta II, a world with high gravity, hostile natives and a similar metaphysic radiation to Ba’ku that kept everyone at their physical prime without aging or illness. Irina was rescued approximately 25-years-ago (15 years before USS Athena was found) by USS Circe, and is currently the XO of Circe’s Marine Detachment. Irina and Tatiana reunited soon after Tatiana was revived, however while extremely loyal and protective of each other, they remain very distant due to the pain and crushing sense of loss they both feel when in each other’s presence.
