Notes:
Meant as the ultimate support for marine operations, the STARFALL-class fleet carrier is the best ship to maintain in-atmosphere air superiority and provide close air support for Star Fleet marines. In any contested battlefield where large scale troop de ployments are needed, this rare fleet carrier will undoubtedly be present. Although its craft are of limited tactical value for space fleet engagements, the STARFALL class carriers are of incalcuable value in support of planetary invasions or defence. T he craft which they carry can not be effectively deployed from any other platform in the Federation inventory. The huge sensor dome which is elevated on a pylon clear of the main hull allows for unparalled command and control for small craft and for incr edibly detailed tactical mapping of a planetary battlefield.
When deployed, these carriers will be screened by no less than two light cruisers and four destroyers. A normal battle fleet will consist of at least three light cruisers, two heavy cruisers, and seven destroyers in screen. Often, a carrier will be depl oyed with additional battle fleets in support for space engagements. The most conventional support fleet may well be the ZEUS-class dreadnought with its customary seven destroyer screen or an additional cruiser division of three light and two heavy cruis ers with four destroyers in screen.
Numbers of crew in the specifications are for the normal Star Fleet space navy pilot arrangement. Some of these carriers use space marine pilots and crew and the number of Star Fleet marines would be much larger for these ships. The ratio of officers to enlisted is greater than on most vessels because all combat shuttle pilots are commisioned officers.
