Shieru was born in Hinamizawa, Ōno District, Gifu Prefecture, Japan to a noble family, the Fantomuhaivu.
He used to be a silent enthusiastic boy in his childhood.
Shieru's father was mostly busy at work and didn't spend much time with the son, but hoped Shieru would follow him in theoretical physics. In the rare times of communicating with son Dr. Fantomuhaivu used to be cold and strict. Spending much more time with Mrs Fantomuhaivu, Shieru was very involved in art.
Shieru was not communicative at school and didn't have many friends among his schoolmates. While attending school Shieru showed interest in chemistry and biology and without any difficulties became excellent at it. He used to spend much time with chemistry professor. At that moment the conflicts with his father started to appear more and more often. Dr Fantomuhaivu did not approve of his sons behaviour. So the decision to move to San Francisco to study at Star Fleet Academy became his obsession. Shieru easily coped with all exams and became a cadet of the Academy where he got qualifications as a Medical Officer, Chemistry Lab Technician and Pharmacologist.
This is not that Shieru wanted to save humans and aliens. He is sure that alive organism is not different from a well thought out machine physically and psychologically. He has reached incredible heights in his work and continues to progress in this segment. After graduating Dr. Shieru Fantomuhaivu was commissioned as Ensign (0-1), as Assistant Doctor, to USS KAYLEIGH, then assigned to USS Saturn where he was promoted to Lieutenant (0-3) and became a Chief Medical Officer. Shieru found his only friend and mentor Dr. Furude at USS SATURN. Dr. Furude was murdered by the Cardassians that became an irreplaceable loss for Shieru and one of the reasons for the wish to leave the USS SATURN.

"Lieutenant Shieru Fantomuhaivu is a fine example of the old saying that 'Appearances do not always represent the whole picture'. His personality is extremely interleaved and complex, hidden below a set of thick strata that he constantly uses to shield himself, thus appearing moderately introverted to the outside eyes. He is, at times, more comfortable with a scalpel and a surgery mask than in other social situations, but his positive approach toward all things of life is clearly extremely helpful for others to overcome his social reluctance. A very skilled Medical Officer with sure, if somewhat hidden, traits of genius."
