It's a very flexible ship that can serve many different roles. Very fast and maneuverable, with excellent sensors and well armed, it's a very versatile vessel. The ship configuration is suited for exploration and scientific missions and allows for great flexibility during a mission. This class covers grounds that other destroyers might not by offering a very well balanced compromise between automation, crew needs, exploration capabilities and even diplomatic mission capabilities. The newer automatisms and improvements in distributed computer cores make for better response times, more computer power and the need for a smaller crew. This means taller decks, which reduces the number of decks compared to older ships, however the living and working space is not reduced, but even larger than that of older designs. The class has 10 decks, each roughly 4 meters tall, with the bridge sitting on deck 3. Scientific labs are ample and well prepared for the needs of an exploration vessel. The new ILN-70Xs nacelles have dedicated computer nodes to be able to calculate the Warp bubble geometry tensor at triple the frequency and almost ten times as precisely as older models, as well as a new system of concentric Warp coils that greatly improve the thermal response of the whole. This allows for faster speeds with less energy expenditure, and longer Warp travels. The new Radiation Phase Shields allow for much faster D-Warp speeds than before. The gravitic-plane dyamic drive provides excellent maneuverability and accelerations. The new generation of IDF generators not only allow for greater accelerations, it integrates with the hull itself, creating a reinforcing mesh embedded in the hull. This allows for superb sublight performance. The ship has 10 decks of roughly 4 meters each, although decks 1 and 2 are only available in the 'tail' section, and deck 10 is 6m tall and contains most of the cargo space of the ship. There's an ample cantine/bar called 6-Faces in the starboard forward section of deck 6. Deck 3 has the access to the bridge. The main Hangar bay faces backwards, using decks 2 through 5, and it's split in two, although it that can work as one if necessary. It harbors all crafts and the Marines Country. In case of necessity, it can harbor a Runabout, but it's a bad fit. While not covered with ablative armor, parts of the hull are segmented in scales, like real scorpions, and provide extra shielding in case of need. Ship names are based on denominations for scorpiones and arachnids with tails or pincers, registries in the NCC-959xx series: USS SCORPIO USS AQRAB USS KRABBO USS VINEGAROON USS WHIP USS HORSESHOE USS BLACK EMPEROR USS DEATHSTALKER USS CENTRUIROID USS HADRURUS USS THICKTAIL USS CAMEL USS WIND USS SUN Ship design by David S. de Lis for use in ASR (2023)
