RT2510- CSFO Report

From StarFleet Bureau of Information

CSFO Report

Michael Dailey (proxy for the CSFO)
Good evening and fare well gentlebeings!

I thank the Chair for the opportunity to address our group today. This report is a few tribbles longer than the standard CSFO report, as I’m including the summary of many projects the Office of Public Affairs is currently working on, which affect our entire club.

I. Membership & Growth

ASR currently maintains 22 active players with several observers closely following our activity and poised to join/rejoin in the near future (gentle nudge). While this number is a fraction of the 100+ players we enjoyed in the 1990s and early 2000s, it represents a steady infusion of new ideas, perspectives, and creativity. Our collective energy and imagination continue to drive the heart of the club.

II. Bureau of Information (BOI) Updates

Significant progress has been made in modernizing and expanding BOI many resources, but still a lot of work needs to be done:

* '''Historical Pages & Graphics''' – Many outdated references and broken links have been corrected, with new visuals incorporated to enhance accessibility and impact.
* '''ASR History Project''' – Efforts are underway to capture the “Yahoo Groups” years and early Groups.io activity not yet archived on BOI.
* ASR Universe Project – Work continues to assemble entries on the multitude of sentient species encountered throughout ASR’s life, including both canon and in-house creations.
*Branch Sites –
Completed/Updated: JAG Corps and Star Fleet Security & Investigative Service SFSECIS (the NCIS of Star Fleet).
In Progress: Star Fleet Public Affairs (partially active).
All Other Branches: Received new header graphics and inspirational quotations but await expanded content.
*FPA vs. FNN – The Star Fleet Public Affairs site will emphasize BOI content and social media outreach, while the *Federation News Network will provide headline news for players and the public.
*RT Archives – Collecting CINCSF and CSFO reports, major proposals, and awards into a BOI for the years missing
 that data.

III. Bureau of Personnel (BUPERS)

(All projects currently in development; estimated completion dates TBD)

Bio Development Tools – New templates and guides to help players create richer, more detailed personnel records.
IV. Honors

The Goto-class Vanguard Explorers honor our most celebrated players by immortalizing their names in ships designed as ambassadors of Federation ideals.
Development is phased:

Phase I: Goto, Coffman, Fontaine (nearly complete, estimated end of October 2437)
Phase II: Rickards, Fainges, Murphy (est. December 2437)
Phase III: Lusby, Jenkins (TBD)
Phase IV: Classified – UFP Top Secret
Each ship will be recorded on the Honors Page, with their use requiring approval by the CINCSF and CSFO.

V. Free Threads & Archives

USS Feynman – Historical page (from launch to destruction) nearing completion, targeted for end of 2437.
Future Projects: 21st Marine Tactical Fighter Wing and Star Fleet Diplomatic Task Force pages.
VI. Recruiting & Outreach

Our recruiting efforts remain multi-faceted:

Social Media Presence – Active accounts on Facebook, BlueSky, X (Twitter), and Instagram.
Veteran Player Outreach – Attempts to reconnect with legacy members, despite outdated emails and defunct services (Prodigy, CompuServe, etc.). Next steps involve leveraging social platforms for direct outreach.
Appealing to New Players – Continuing to balance traditional text-based creativity against competition from visually immersive games like STO.
VII. Media Initiatives

Podcasts – Short-form “headline news” style summaries of weekly ASR activity.
Videos – Reworking some excellent yet dated ASR videos authored by Ed Bell (and others), showcasing our current and future units. Other video examples include:
Admiral P’Nerow’s SFA commencement address (Class of 2438).
Billet of the Week spinoff: “Day in the Life” video series.
VIII. Closing Remarks

Although I serve as a stand-in today, I would like to share a few personal reflections.

From 1996–1999, I was a fledgling writer with a passion for Star Trek and other worlds of imagination. Real life took me away for over two decades, but what brought me back was more than nostalgia — it was the depth of storytelling, the camaraderie, and the unexpected humor woven throughout our narratives.

At times, our stories dive deep into politics, but we should never lose sight of the core principle of any game: entertainment. As ASR grows and new units form, I look forward to opportunities to write with those I have not yet had the pleasure to collaborate with.

My hailing frequencies (inbox) are always open — whether for story ideas, free thread collaboration, or simply a good Trek conversation.

Finally, a public service announcement: Star Fleet Public Affairs is actively seeking a Deputy Chief of Information to assist with recruiting and social media projects. Interested members are encouraged to reach out to myself, the CSFO, or CINCSF.

Respectfully Submitted,
Commodore Johan Bauer
Acting Commander, Star Fleet Public Affairs
