CSFO's Report

Dear Delegates and Fellow Players,

I would like to expand on the report provided by our CINCSF with additional details regarding the decisions made and the current state of our units within ASR.

Unit Mergers

After consulting with the Commanding Officers of both ships, we concluded that the best course of action was to merge both units to strengthen our existing structure. This would allow us to consolidate the work that the active players of both units have been doing, ensuring that their efforts would not be lost in a sea of frustration and difficulties. Through this union, our goal was not only to maintain participation levels and narrative quality but also to create a more solid and engaging environment for all players involved.

During the merger process, unfortunately, Tim Sowards decided to leave ASR. This is a significant loss for our community, as Tim has been an outstanding writer and a key part of ASR’s history. However, we remain hopeful that, in the future, he may choose to return to what has always been his home and continue contributing with his talent and creativity.

On the other hand, the merger has also brought us positive news. We have welcomed back a former player, Mark Palumbo, which has been an encouraging development. His return was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of our COMPA, Michael Dailey, who has been actively working to reconnect with former players and promote ASR through social media. His dedication has been instrumental in revitalizing our community and strengthening engagement within the game.

In addition to Mark’s return, we have also seen two previously inactive players rejoin us. Both have decided to become part of the CIRCE’s crew, which marks an important step in solidifying this unit and reinforcing its team.

As part of our expansion and development plans, we had been working on creating a third unit that could serve as a welcoming space for returning players or newcomers interested in joining ASR. However, due to various circumstances that are not worth detailing in this report, that project did not come to fruition.

At this moment, we believe that the wisest course of action is to focus on strengthening our two existing units, prioritizing stability and the quality of the stories we are building together. If we receive new players in the future and the need for a third unit arises again, we will evaluate the best available options to provide a suitable solution.

USS NORMANDY (FT UNIT)

The USS NORMANDY was conceived with a clear and well-defined idea: to provide a more relaxed and flexible writing environment where players can engage without the obligations and rigid structures that sometimes come with a traditional unit.

This would allow more people to participate in ASR without the pressure of taking on a leadership role or maintaining a high level of commitment.

As an open FT, any player can create a character within this unit. However, it is important to clarify that these characters cannot be department heads or assistant department heads. Instead, the crew will mainly consist of junior officers, non-commissioned officers, and cadets. This aligns with the one of missions of the NORMANDY, which, among other responsibilities, includes transporting and training cadets during their field study year.

Our inspiration largely comes from Lower Decks, as we want to focus on characters who are not at the center of major strategic decisions or high-stakes missions. Instead, we aim to explore the everyday lives and tasks of those who keep the ship running behind the scenes. This approach allows for a more laid-back and accessible writing style, where players can contribute to the story without the burden of an epic or overly complex narrative.

That being said, it is important to clarify that while Lower Decks serves as an inspiration, the NORMANDY is not meant to be an exclusively comedic unit. Every player will be free to develop their character and participate in stories in the tone they find most fitting. From lighthearted moments to serious drama and action, flexibility will be one of this FT’s defining characteristics.

As David mentioned in his report, the focus of the NORMANDY will be on the ship’s daily operations and the experiences of its crew. We want to capture the essence of what it means to serve aboard a Federation starship without every mission needing to involve saving the galaxy. Small events, interpersonal relationships, and everyday challenges will be at the heart of this unit’s storytelling.

We hope to launch this FT immediately after the RT. Any player interested in joining the NORMANDY should contact either David or me, as we will be the NPC CT of the unit. Our role will be to coordinate the missions in which the ship will be involved, primarily using Captain’s Logs or similar to drive the narrative.

Our goal with this project, as well as with our two existing units, is to continue expanding ASR and making our game universe more appealing to a broader audience. We firmly believe that with dedication and effort, we can keep enjoying this collaborative writing experience and attract more players to our little corner of the Star Trek universe.

We appreciate the support and participation of all players, and we hope that this new initiative will bring us many hours of fun and creative storytelling together.

Respectfully submitted,
Juan Angel Romero, CSFO
