CINCSF's Report
Dear Delegates and Fellow Players, The past six months have been a whirlwind of activity, marked by both challenges and progress. While the Winter holidays brought the usual slowdown, our momentum persisted, albeit at a more measured pace. Unit Mergers and New Initiatives In response to ongoing issues affecting the writing experience within the USS YORKTOWN, we made the strategic decision to merge it with the USS CIRCE. This consolidation aimed to pool creative energies and reinvigorate our efforts. Simultaneously, plans for a new unit to re-engage inactive players were developed but have been temporarily shelved pending better timing. The newly consolidated unit will retain the name USS CIRCE and be strengthened by writers from both YORKTOWN and other contributors. It will be led by Austin Forsyth as Commanding Officer, with David S. de Lis serving as Executive Officer. The CIRCE now stands as our primary full unit, boasting nine players (including five unique contributors), while the USS RANGER transitions into a smaller unit with five players, maintaining the capacity to accept new players as they come. Both units will operate in distinct but interconnected Areas of Operation, tied together by a narrative arc that will unfold over the year. Fleet Narrative Developments This year marks a pivotal moment in our shared storyline: after years of turmoil—revolts and open conflict—the Cardassian Union will finally join the Federation. Both units will play supporting roles in this significant event. The USS RANGER’s current mission introduces the Fleet Arc, while the USS CIRCE has relocated from Starbase SERENITY to SILVER’s core to join Task Force Obsidian in aiding the Cardassian Union. The CIRCE’s involvement will span multiple missions, with its first set to launch in a few weeks as repairs and crew onboarding are finalized. Personnel Updates and Media Outreach Michael Dailey has accepted the role of COMPA, complementing his duties as COMJAG. His contributions have enhanced our public presence through social media initiatives and the Federation News Network (FNN), which will report on unit activities and broader Federation developments—particularly updates on the Cardassian struggle. Additionally, we’ve initiated the Federation History special interest group to update ASR canon for the past 15 years while exploring ways to integrate Star Trek canon events into our game. Michael has also been working on an Honors page, while I am nearing completion of a 3D model for the USS GOTO, which will serve as a template for other ships. Efforts are underway to create plaques and memorabilia to recognize our players’ achievements. Introducing the USS NORMANDY We are excited to announce a new initiative: the USS NORMANDY (NCC-5044), one of the last ENDEAVOUR-class heavy cruisers in service. Retrofitted with advanced technologies like D-Warp and gravity planing drives, this venerable ship primarily undertakes domestic missions. However, its unique design serves a special purpose: providing a low-pressure creative outlet for all players. The NORMANDY will function as an open “free thread” where: Missions begin monthly via Captain’s Logs set by CINCSF, CSFO, or COMANC. Any player—active or inactive—can contribute freely without long-term commitments. Posts can explore lighthearted or mundane aspects of life aboard ship, such as cleaning holodecks or fixing plasma conduits. This initiative is designed to encourage creativity without pressure while offering veterans a way to reconnect with our community. Contributions won’t count as formal activity under revised guidelines but will allow players to experiment and have fun in an informal setting. Looking Ahead The past months have been bittersweet—a mix of hard work and difficult decisions—but they’ve also set the stage for an exciting future. With a stronger unit structure, fresh opportunities for storytelling, and innovative projects like the NORMANDY, we are poised for success. Let’s seize this moment together. Respectfully submitted, David S. de Lis, CINCSF
