CINCSF's REPORT

Dear Delegates,

This has been a complicated year.

Right when the last RT was about to end, we were struck down by the loss of our friend and CSFO, Sean Murphy. One of our Honor Players stepped in to cover for him and did so admirably for the next six months. Then our current CSFO, Juan Ángel Romero, stepped in to cover the position.

The last year was, therefore, a year of recovery and of construction. But it's been a slow year and things have progressed more slowly than planned. The Honors Page remains to be set up. Some work has been done with Starship plaques, but more is needed, and then we have to build the whole thing on BOI. The USS RICKARDS, USS COFFMAN and USS MURPHY have been "commissioned", the rest of the Honor Ships will follow suit.

After some debate after Mr Lusby's retirement, it was decided that the SB SERENITY (aka DS451) unit would become a pNPC for the time being, and those willing to write would move to the USS CIRCE, which as of now have become one of the longest running units (and with more incarnations) in the Club's history. It has started slowly, as some players have decided to step back, but I am confident it will gain momentum and keep providing us wonderful stories.

As for the other units, we have added a new free thread to our ranks, and the RANGER and YORKTOWN have been keeping a steady flow of posting, with a strong core of active players. We are still dealing with small(ish) units, but they are here and running well.

Reports of our exploits on Twitter have stopped because we require a professional account to be able to write from multiple accounts--at least as far as I get--, it's something to fix, and Facebook posts have been reduced to sporadic 'recently on ASR...' briefing posts. I would like to make those regular (weekly or every other week, for example) so there's a steady flux of news to our user base. Plans for expanding our social media presence have been discussed but not applied for lack of time, mostly. We will discuss this matter after the elections, in a few days. A dedicated PA Officer would probably be a step in increasing our presence out there.

There's been some advances on our JAG front and the units' memorial pages are progressing slowly but steadily, thanks to the work of Mr. Dailey.

Finally, there's been an intense work for the last 10 months or so, that is almost ready to go online, which is an upgrade of some technologies (some of the, already in production on some starships) while the rest will enter full with the new starship classes that will join us as soon as the last details are fleshed out.

We will have 16 new starship classes, 1 Battlecruiser, 4 Heavy Cruisers, 6 Light Cruisers, 1 Destroyer, 3 Frigates and 1 Frigate Escort. These will be added to our current roster of starships, although some will substitute some classes that will be retired from production or actively refitted to newer models. Some other ships have been added, fixed, or will be set fully in production, like the Honor Vanguard Explorer GOTO-class or the MERCY-class Medical Cruiser, which is a medical version of the EUROPA-class (marked with * on the next listing).

WASP-class Warship
Heavy Cruiser
BRILLIANCE-class Explorer
CAYUGA-class Multi-purpose Explorer

FRATERNITY-class Expeditionary Frigate
Frigate Escorts
RELENTLESS-class Escort

You will, no doubt, find some classes familiar, which is obviously intended. However, they have all been adapted to our understanding and technologies, so while still familiar for new players and old, they are ASR starships through and through. The rest of the models are original designs with more or less inspiration on existing starships.

As for the 3D models, it has been a very time consuming task, so I apologize if I have been a bit more absent due to this. It sometimes might have become my escape hatch from real life, as well. All models are mine and donated to ASR, of course. (Note: the included images don't show the ships from the same distance, they have been made to look good... :-) Viewports and bridge sizes, transporter emitters and tractor beam emitters will help you compare them, as special care has been put in making sure those are consistent and coherent for the intended ship classes... You might even see some crew members lurking through the windows or even a bridge here or there... :-) I have my favourite designs, although I love them all, and we hope you'll love them too. Our intention is for them to start slowly appearing as NPC units in our writings until such a time that a new unit is created or one of the current ones "upgraded"... :-)

So, some things done, some things to be done, lots of new things to still come to life, which I hope will happen in the near future.

Before ending this term, I would like to heartly thank Mr Lusby for his help as CSFO and CO of SERENITY, Mr Romero for stepping up and cover the position in October and to both of them and, especially, Mr Jeff Jenkins, our SFE, for their help and comments with the starships, contributions and corrections, great discussions and, in general, a real blast of a time working on the new starship classes.

Finally, it seems appropriate to spend one minute in silence to remember our dear Sean Murphy and other fallen comrades. We have a tradition in my land, which is the "cabo de ano", which might be translated as "after one year", which serves to remember people after one year of their passing (and then sometimes every year) with a humble ceremony.
