RT0004- CSFO Report

From StarFleet Bureau of Information

CSFO Report

Assembled delegates,

I am pleased to present the CSFO's report.

As a whole, ASR is in good shape. Enthusiasm is high, players are posting.

There are approximately 25 vacancies fleetwide at present, an average of
about one per unit. This level of open billets is not evenly distributed,
however. Some units lack as many as four players, and these will be given
top attention from BUPERS.

The list below is the most current vacancy report compiled from the fleet
commanders; should this not correspond to the actual situation on a ship,
the CO should contact his or her fleet commander ASAP. (Billets in
parenthesis are being recruited by the respective CO.)

In terms of attrition, ASR has a slightly smaller player base than it had
in April 1999, with ship closures outpacing launches. While some attrition
is expected, the reductions in our ranks have not been countered by a
corresponding influx of new players. The fact that our player losses are
outpacing our recruiting represents the greatest challenge for ASR at the
moment.

To combat this, we will be looking to increase our presence on the web, as
well as providing players with an online bio generator. This functionality
existed two years ago, but was pulled from production because the quality
of the submitted bios was often lacking (many bios were incomplete and very
haphazard) and the response rate was too large to handle. It is our hope
that the new form will be thorough enough to guard against poor submissions.

An official ASR post archive on e-groups was also established to help
increase our web presence. Players are requested to cc their posts to
"starfleet-rpg@eGroups.com". Please note that this address can NOT be
added to the distribution list of other e-groups, thereby requiring a bit
of manual work each time a post is to be mailed. Only RPG posts should
appear on this address. NRPG should remain off of the archive.

Additionally, a survey will be sent out to the fleet commanders during the
month of May (and in turn distributed to the COs); the goal of this survey
will be to identify where players heard about ASR, determine strengths and
weaknesses of our game, and solicit suggestions for improvement.

I have enjoyed serving as CSFO and look forward to a productive 2000. My
goals as CSFO for this year are as follows:

Survey mailed in May, results back in June, analysis by late 6/00
Increase in ASR player base (number of distinct players) by 17% by 4/01
Decrease in vacancies from ~ 1 per ship to ~ .5 per ship by 4/01
Ships with severe vacancies (4+) at zero by 6/00

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Finocchiaro
