1.2: The Pitch
[ORIGINS: "Reunion"]: UTOPIA PLANITIA: "The Pitch" A STAR FLEET: ORIGINS Free Thread Posted by Scott Lusby ----- SD: 2276.298 (October 25, 2276) MD: 1.2047 Setting: Gar's Quarters, Deck 7-Alpha, Utopia Planitia Shipyards, Mars ----- Gar lay on his back with his head propped up on a pillow in the bed, his body partially covered by both the bed sheet and Avae. Her head rested on his chest, her shimmering white hair soft, her body- what was exposed, anyway- glistened with sweat. She traced gentle circles on his chest with her finger. "So," Gar said, trying for all the world to keep his tone even, cool. "Why don't you tell me why you're here?" Avae sighed softly. "So I suppose you're not buying the whole 'long lost lovers rediscover each other 15 years later' trope as genuine?" Gar chuckled, in spite of himself. "We have too much 'other' history between us," he said. "Some might even say 'unfinished business.'" Avae lifted herself out of bed, the covers sliding off. Naked, she strutted out the doorway and into the living area. After a minute, she reappeared and leaned against the doorframe, this time clothed, albeit hastily. "It's curious that you used the term 'unfinished business,'" she said. Now Gar sat up. "What do you mean?" he asked. "The only 'unfinished business' we have is each other." He paused, then, dropping his head, added, "And I figured, after 15 years, it really WAS finished." The Am-Tal agent stared back at him, her eyes expressing a softness out of place on a person so deadly. "Do you remember the last words I said to you?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. Gar's expression seemed light years away. "Yes," he answered. "'Someday...'" Zh'sharav walked slowly back across the room and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Do you remember where we were?" "You were on the transporter pad of the HOOD- you were escaping--" Avae cut him off. "I was fleeing a failed mission," she corrected. "Dr. Sahen." Now it was Gar's turn to get out of bed. "You tried to assassinate him," he said as he reached his dresser. He pulled the top drawer open and grabbed a pair of underwear. "I couldn't let you do that," he added as he stepped into his shorts. Avae pushed herself off the bedside. "Not only could you, you SHOULD have," she asserted. "You knew what kind of monster he was- what he tried to do to our planet, our people! --" Gar stopped her. "Is this why you are here? To rehash something 15 years in our past?" He breezed past her and opened the closet. "We both made our choices on Arcturus," he said with a firmness that declared the discussion was over. "Just like we both did on Andoria before that." A flicker of anger crossed Avae's expression, antennae swept back hard against her head. "I'm not the one who walked out on his people," she said, venom dripping from each word. He stopped for a moment, shaking his head. Then, pulling on his bathrobe, he turned to face her. "You haven't changed at all," Gar spat, and walked past her, through the doorway, and into the living room. She followed him out. "Perhaps not," she said, "but everything else has." He froze; he dipped his head, and chuckled. "And so we come to the point at last," he said, turning to face her once again. "Tell me: what has changed, Avae? Why did you take all those risks getting in here?" He took a step towards her. "What do you want from me?" She paused for a moment to gather herself. Then, slowly, she crossed the remaining distance between them "I need to find Dr. Sahen," Avae said. "And I need you to help me." Gar's antennae flattened. "I'm not going to help you kill him; we've been through that," he said, his tone firm. "Besides," he shrugged, "he's in protective custody; nobody knows where he is." Avae shook her head. "SOMEBODY knows where he is," she offered. "Besides, my mission isn't to kill him." Gar's brow furrowed, and his antennae rose slowly, gradually pitching forward towards Avae. "I don't understand- what do you want with him?" Avae stepped forward, closing the gap between her and Gar. They were now barely at arms' length from one another. "The Andorian government wants to hire him," she shrugged, "and I've been sent to bring him in." <<NRPG>> This seems as good a place to leave off as any.
