James Travis Leijten known by family as JT and friends as Jimmy was born on Earth on Stardate 2389.5.9. His parents; Eugene & Veronica lived and worked in Tucson, Arizona. His father, Eugene was a member of the city council and his mother, Veronica worked as a school teacher. He has three sisters; Melissa, Michelle, and Kelly.
From an early age James was fascinated by the stars in the sky and one day wished to travel among them. One of his prized possessions is an astrometrics book written by legendary early UFP President and Starfleet pioneer, Jonathan Archer. At age ten he took a field trip with his classmates to the Starfleet Memorial Museum. At that place he was able to learn about his idol and continue to be fascinated about the stars. In his senior year of High School at the Travis Mayweather High School in Tucson, Arizona he took part in the Starfleet Entrance Examination. He passed with flying colors excelling in the areas of Astronavigation, Tactical, and operations specialties. On Stardate 2411.5.19 he graduated with honors from Starfleet Academy. That same day he reported aboard USS Columbus NCC-23122 for duty as Flight Control Officer.
James had a quick rise thru the ranks. On Stardate 2413.2.14 he was promoted to lieutenant junior grade and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for rescuing stranded away team members while flying and landing a damaged craft.
On Stardate 2415.7.11 Leijten was promoted to Lieutenant for demonstrating exceptional leadership during an away team mission having taken charge of an embassy evacuation following the untimely death of the away team leader.
James Leijten was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on Stardate 2418.8.10 and awarded a Starfleet Commendation Medal and Starfleet Medal of Merit for getting two hostile sides to sit down and talk with the Federation acting as a neutral party to bring peace and stability to a contested solar system.
On Stardate 2418.11.1 he was assigned as Second Officer aboard the USS Essex NCC-5011. During a particular incident on Stardate 2419.3.17 Leijten was forced to assume command of the Essex due to both the captain and first officer having been medically confined to sickbay. He was awarded a second Commendation Medal for his actions during the mission. It remains classified to this day.
On Stardate 2421.5.31 he was promoted to Commander and assigned as XO,USS Nelson NCC-1779. During his time onboard he volunteered for the Starfleet Officer exchange program. He spent three months as a temporary first officer on a Cardassian Cruiser Ralek under the command of Gul Elim Amar. He was awarded the Cardassian Star for his impeccable service (Award is authorized).
On Stardate 2425.6.26: James Leijten was assigned as Adjutant to Admiral Thomas Hoffman (Former Commanding Officer, USS Columbus NCC-23122).
On Stardate 2429.4.4: Assigned XO, USS Charlemagne NCC-800. During his time aboard he clashed with Captain Theodore Graham. One notable incident occurred which Leijten had forcibly relieved Captain Graham of command due to conduct unbecoming (Fallout from a diplomatic incident). Another incident happened in which Leijten disobeyed orders which resulted in Captain Graham’s life being saved from certain death.
