B. Background Summary:
Dack Askin was rescued from a destroyed Romulan Frigate when he was 4 years old by Human couple Astelia and Vera Askin. They consequently adopted him and raised him on Earth with their other children Evan, Lora and Dee Askin in Vermont, Earth. Despite some initial Romulan Condition, Dack developed a particularly human personality and decided to attend Starfleet Academy when he was 16.
He was assigned to a Research Facility in the Bastian Research Facility and served there for 4 years.
When his mothers died from the 2321 outbreak of DDBH disease, he applied for bereavement leave from the Research station and it was approved. Consequentially, Dack's relationship with his siblings became very strong after the death of both of their doting mothers and they arranged to see each other no less than every 2 years.
They kept their promise but whehn Dack was 102, his elderly human siblings were en route to see him in the Bastian system when their convoy was destroyed by a Jem-Hadar Scarab Class Fighter.
Dack's devastation at their loss lead him to travel to apply for an indeterminate amount of leave from Starfleet and travel to Vulcan to try and contain his Romulan/Human emotions.
His studies were somewhat affective but not to the degree that Dack had hoped so he decided to seek out his biological parents and stowed away on a Cardassian Freigther bound for Romulan Space.
Without clearance to enter Romulan space he was detained and held by the Tal Shiar for questioning. Tortured and Questioned and finally placed in a General Population Penal Colony, Dack remained a captive of the Romulans for 16 years.
Upon his extradition to Federation Space he reapplied to Starfleet and was accepted and at 130, was assigned as FCO to the USS YAMATO.
