Star Fleet’s structure is not as straightforward as the other military services — it’s pretty complex. There are two chains of command: operational and administrative for two distinct service components – the Star Fleet ‘naval’ forces, and the Star Fleet Marine Corps. These sometimes overlap, and depending on assignment, a sailor or Marine can be part of both.
- Operational commands carry out specific missions directly related to combat, defense or both.
- Administrative Branch Commands take care of personnel, health, education, training, repairs and supply chains. It’s responsible for readiness.
