B. Background Summary:
----------------------
Alexander “Alex” Hunter grew up in a Star Fleet family, born and raised on starbases and vessels as he moved with his parents throughout his childhood. An only child, he spent much of his childhood ‘on his own’ in various Star Fleet locations, as his parents often had separate billets. His father rose from a security and tactical background through the SF command ranks, ultimately serving in task force and fleet command roles, and his mother a science officer who spent the majority of her SF career rotating between research stations and active service on major exploration vessels, meant they followed divergent tracks. He developed an early love of the sciences largely from spending significant time with his mother and hearing about her work, and found his way into a passion for fields that led him into engineering.
He distinguished himself academically at the academy, and surprised may of his advisors when he chose not to pursue ongoing study despite several offers to move into advanced degrees and a track leading to a research and development career with SF Engineering. Instead, his father’s influences seemed to come to bear as he sought out service in the fleet, ultimately finding a unique opportunity on the HIPPARKOS, the first experimental design for a new class of starship where he was part of the team responsible for ongoing testing, experimentation and pushing the limits of the new technology embedded in the vessel.
He took leave at this point in his career for a fellowship at the Vulcan Science Academy, where he pursued his interests in warp field theory and related advanced topics. Many thought this would be a pivot point in his career that would take him back to a more academic and development track, but upon completing the Fellowship he sought out a new assignment in active fleet duty. Star Fleet saw an opportunity in him again to leverage his more advanced scientific thinking and skills with his clear desire for an engineering leadership track and assigned him as deputy chief on the USS SAGAN construction and integration team. This leveraged his experience on the HIPPARKOS and its ongoing testing along with the advancements made since the HIPPARKOS was first commissioned and embedding additional technologies into the SAGAN.
Driven to ‘finally get out into it’ he requested assignment into the active fleet, and was posted as the chief engineer on the SAGAN.
C. Personality Summary:
-----------------------
Alex comes across as somewhat reserved but has a clear warmth to his personality, so that even while he may remain somewhat out of the flow of a conversation, he does not read as aloof or cold. He is fiercely loyal to his friends and his teammates, and engages more openly and passionately with those he trusts and in smaller settings. Alex loves puzzles and innovations, and has found that SF engineering gives him an opportunity to do things he enjoys in his work. For those he works with he is known as having high standards for himself.

V. Skills Profile
==================
Alex is the ‘engineer’s engineer’ in multiple ways - he brings a depth of scientific interest and passion to the work, combined with a hands-on desire to always be engaging with the hardware of a vessel. He is intimately familiar with advanced propulsion systems and constantly seeking out the latest theoretical work to inform how he can do the most with the technology available to him. He is a capable leader of the teams he has worked with, building respect with his fellow officers and the enlisted ranks.

VI. Recent Fitness Reports
==========================
“Lieutenant Hunter brings a diligence to his work that is commendable in his field, never letting a problem go unresolved no matter how seemingly intractable. He has significant knowledge of the latest in the theory and practice of starship engineering and readily brings this to bear in his approach. That said, he always engages directly with the work to be done, and while he clearly has a strong theoretical and scientific background and mind, he is a talented engineer in solving practical problems in repair and integration. This has served him very well in the final construction and integration work here on the SAGAN.”
-CDR B’Rkel, Chief Engineer, USS SAGAN systems integration team
