USS FEYNMAN: Some Thoughts On the Issahi

by Kristen Gant 11-2-1996

Stardate: 81102.1119
Scene: Lt. Jenn's Quarters
MD: 4. 2000

Almost immediately after returning to the FEYNMAN, Krysa headed to her quarters. She was completely exhausted and more then a little on edge after Jerrans daredevil flight back. She was sure he had but it on simply for her benefit, but she'd refused to show him how nervous it made her. Not that she could probably have kept it off her face, but she gave it her best try.

Once in her quarters, she immediately put on some soothing music and changed out of her uniform and into her nightgown. She washed her face in cold water which always made her feel better, then headed to the replicator for some hot lemon tea.

She noticed her message light flashing, so headed over to see what needed her attention. The red flag on one of them caught her attention. Seeing it was forwarded from the Captain, she opened it immediately. She laughed when she heard the news that Dee had been caught by Starfleet Security. "Up to your old tricks again, I see. Well, finally there's an end to that one!" With a satisfied flick of the finger she deleted the message.

The next was again forwarded from the Captain, and as she watched and listened to the video recording she couldn't help but glare at the unfamiliar face which she knew was Dee's. At least Krysa didn't have to worry about having a double any longer. Listening to the manipulating and demanding voice of the woman, she felt sympathy for Zane. Well, at least that was over. Now that the truth was out, Dee had nothing over him any longer.

The truth was out .. Krysa was determined not to let it stand in the way of their careers. Yet .. why did she spend so much time thinking about it?

She sighed heavily and quickly went on to a last message from her brother. He was graduating early and heading off for Starfleet Academy the next semester. She sent a quick note of congratulations, letting him know how proud she was of him. Glad for something to celebrate.

Scene: Bridge
MD: 5.0900

The Captain sat in the center seat deep in thought. Krysa could feel his concern over the status of the Issahi in regards to the destruction of the SERAPIS. She'd been trying to get some sort of feelings from the ship ahead of them, and had it not been for the one human presence on the ship amongst all the aliens, she might not have gotten much at all.

She handed the Ops station over to a junior officer and moved over to take the counselor's chair to the Captain's left. He looked down at her questioningly.

"It doesn't seem to make sense that the Issahi could have caused the destruction of the SERAPIS."

"Lt. Meleah doesn't agree with you."

"No, I know. However, Meleah isn't a trained psychologist either. The Issahi were to have met with the SERAPIS to discuss Federation membership, correct?"

Zane nodded, "That was the original mission, yes."

"If the Issahi used that as a ruse to get the SERAPIS out here and destroy it, which doesn't make a lot of sense in the first place, why are they willing to talk to us."

"They haven't really talked to us yet." Zane reminded her.

"Sir, there is something they want from us. I can sense that .. but it doesn't have anything to do with the SERAPIS."

"How can you be sure?"

Krysa frowned, "I suppose I can't. It's just a feeling I have. Some from the sense I get from Martin Ross, despite his extremely guarded nature, but also because there is no reason they couldn't have gotten the same thing from the SERAPIS that they can get from us. I mean, why destroy the SERAPIS?"

"Lt., we know very little about the Issahi. How can we determine their motivations?"

Krysa was silent for a moment before answering, "Call it hunch, if you must. I suppose I could be wrong. I don't have anything to back me up yet. Perhaps once we meet them in person .." Krysa shrugged, "I just wanted to add my thoughts on this."

Zane nodded and Krysa stood. She grinned at the Captain, as she moved onto a less serious subject, "I wanted to thank you for filling my mailbox with good news last night."

Zane grinned back, "I was more then glad to do it."

Krysa chuckled and headed back to take her seat at Ops.

Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: Nothing Really New

<Insufficient data>

"Damn!" Tarrant shook hi head and leaned up against the wall.

IT was about the 30th time the computer gave that answer. They entered every bit of data they had, knew, hypothesized, and guessed at. There were just to many holes.

"We could get the Issahi to fire on us?" came Meleah's reply.

Tarrant only looked at her in utter disbelief. According to their previous tests, a ytterbium weapon or gas cloud would destroy their SIF, and the FEYNMAN would fall/blow apart.

"It was a joke Lieutenant... humor in stressful situations is said to relieve tension."

The CEO could only stare at the android.

ELSEWHERE

He, Oh my ship... little ship... The pain hurts... Another, a mind, hurting... FORCING! It wants the first officer... trying to get to him...

STOP SHOUTING! ... oh, must go, must find them.... Me? Yes, I'll help.. just Stop SHOUTING!

WHO? I' dont KNOW a ROSS? A ship.. yes another, a ship... the Issahi ship.. they are with us... watching. Oh, the pain... hurts

Must give the pain, must hurt the others... YES Will tell, will help... yes, when time comes. Just take me with you.. take me...

<NRPG>

Sorry Max, just trying to play a little off your idea.

As for the lack of findings. I just couldn't in good common sense figure that we had enough data. But I think we've all decided that this is *not* the ship....

Well, let's get going.

USS FEYNMAN: A First Step

by Andrew Catterick 11-6-1996

SD: 81106.2100
MD: 6.1700
Scene: Bridge

"Captains log stardate 81106. After a voyage of silence from the VIGIL it seems we have made some headway. Sub-commander Ross has extended a formal invitation to me to meet with members of the Issahi ruling council once we arrive at the homeworld. He also requested permission to have additional members of the Issahi governmnet to come aboard the FEYNMAN while we are in orbit. I have agreed to this request and as a recognition of our guests importance Commander Maril will represent the Federation to this delegation.

While the importance of these actions as a major step in diplomatic discussions can not be overstated I find the composition of the delegation to be the most telling point. While Ross firmly pointed out that it will be a diplomatic mission designed to facilitate relations between our two governments he also specifically identified the fact that the group visiting the FEYNMAN would not only be comprised of diplomats and political leaders but scientists and engineers as well. Further, these specialists were being sent to meet with their counterparts on the FEYNMAN to discuss 'mutual problems.' Perhaps the SERAPIS is not the only ship to have fallen victim.

"Captain we are being hailed from the planet."

FEYNMAN had been in orbit of the Issahi homeworld for almost 45 minutes and there was a barely perceptable sigh of relief from the bridge crew now that contact had finally been made. "On screen." Zane ordered.

As soon as the Issahi leader appeared he began to speak. Zane put on his best dilpomat's face as he silently cursed the fact that the universal translator was still unable to decipher the Issahi language.

Ross interpreted. [On behalf of the 10 Clans, the spirits of Issah and the citizens of the Confederacy, I, First Counsel Krazich welcome you to our world. May your hunt be bountiful.]

"On behalf of the United Federation of Planets I thank you for your kind welcome and extend the heartfelt gratitude of all our citizens for this important bridge between our two governments."

As Ross translated Krazich nodded to Zane. Again he spoke and again Ross interpreted. [Captain it is my hope that we may exchange representatives with the desire of a more beneficail interaction. In this spirit I invite you and your officers to join me here for further discussion.]

"I am honoured and look forward to our meeting. In the spirit of this cooperation it is my hope that you will accept my invitation for some of your representatives to join Commadner Maril and my officers on board the FEYNMAN to help facilitate this cooperation."

[That will be acceptable Captain.]] This time Krazich needed no interpretation, the universal translator had finally deciphered the Issahi language. [Is one hour agreeable?]

"One hour is most agreeable First Counsel. I look forward to meeting you."

Krazich nodded and the viewscreen returned to the orbital view of the red world.

"Well everyone," Zane said addressing the senior staff, "time to jump into the dress As. Lieutenants Jenn and Jerran and Ensign Lee meet me in transporter room 3 in 45 minutes and have Dr. Glin'kharr join us as well."

As the bridge started to bustle with officers leaving and relief arriving Zane rose from his chair and turned to face Maril. "Have fun!"

<<<NRPG>>>

Ok we're here...time to schmooze.<G>

Just some brief reminders:

-Issahi look like Saurians (Dinosaurs) and live in a clan system with each clan having distinctive skin (hide?) markings.

-the clans are rivals in the same sense that Klingon and Romulan Great Families/Houses are...all want to be more powerful within the clan system but they do all work toward the common good of the Confederacy especially when something threatens the whole...like the coming of the Reavers.

-the Reavers destroyed the SERAPIS and several Issahi warships and the Issahi see the Feds as allies. But again like the Klingons and the Romulans they are a proud an mistrustful race....they haven't decided if they will trust us and it is hard to ask for help...they will be very cautious.

This is where the mission really starts going and I look forward to seeing where it takes us.

Donna: I know you want to write your character off...how about she stays as a kind of ambassador between the Federation and the Issahi...like TOS' 'The Corbomite Maneuver'?

Respectfully,
Andy

*SNIP* SCENE: SECURITY OFFICE

Leaning back in his chair, feet propped upon the edge of his desk, J.C. took the PADD his ACSO, Senior Chief Petty Officer Alex Tamarov handed him.

"Here's the duty roster. Looks like PO1s Covo't and Jonas are up for the away team." said Alex, taking a seat beside the desk.

"Thanks Alex. Like I said earlier, no surprises this mission." J.C. scanned the roster. Covo't was a good member of the team, but as Tellarites' don't necessarily make good diplomats... J.C. shuddered to think. Jerry Jonas was promising, but had prior misdealings with the Captain. Better to keep both Covo't and Jonas on board this time. Punching a few keys on the PADD, J.C. inserted two names above Covo't and Jonas, bumping them down to the next mission. He handed the PADD back to Alex.

"I think we better keep Jonas and Covo't here this time. Have the replacement NCOs in transporter room 3 in 35 minutes, Class A's and Type I side arms only. Concealed, Mr. Tamarov. We don't want to appear as invaders." Alex took the PADD and looked over the two names, CPO T'boc and competent Vulcan NCO, and ....himself!?

"Mr. Allard, you want ME to go? I thought you would want to go?" Alex looked confused.

"I think Mr. T'boc and yourself are the best choices for this mission. I'll have my hands full here on the ship, tending to our visitors. Besides, this way you can put on your best for the Captain without me along." They both grinned, taking the hidden meaning. Last mission saw them both injured, almost captured, and not exactly on the CO's most favorite list.

"Get going, Alex." said J.C. The ACSO stood at attention, "Aye SIR!" them smiled and left.

"Computer." said J.C. He stretched, wondering if he had enough time to grab a bite to eat. Frowning, it was about five seconds, and the usual instantaneous response from the computer was not happening. J.C. stood up this time.

"Computer, respond!".

[breep! Crackle.... crackle... error. Please restate inquiry.]

"Computer, I didn't make any inquiry, yet." Reaching over to the console on his desktop, J.C. hit the command access link. No response... something was really wrong. Maybe Koreth was running a system diagnostic or something. Tapping his comm badge, J.C. started to call the CEO, but the comm link did not connect.

"Damn." Thinking, J.C. opened his bottom desk drawer and got out his handheld communicator. They were seldom used anymore by Star Fleet, but it still worked. He flipped open the cover, activating the comm link. He was rewarded with the old-style 'chirp' sound of the connection.

"Allard to Koreth." J.C. hoped this would work.

"Koreth here. Yes Mr. Allard". Relieved, J.C. explained the weird system failures....

USS FEYNMAN: Step Right In

by Jason Bostjancic 11-8-1996

SD: 81108
MD: 6.1800
Scene: Engineering

"Finally, some useful information," said the CEO as he stared at the main engineering computer display. With Meleah off playing diplomat, Tarrant had been unable to get any further on the SERAPIS' destruction. Then a second idea almost smashed him in the face when they reached the Issahi system.

Koreth brought the DELPHI system up to full capacity and began scanning each astral object in the vicinity for the rare element ytterbium. The results from the scans of the Issahi homeworld were just coming in.

Ens. Dunnon sounded off the more interesting findings as they came in. "Estimated Population, 1.5 billion; Atmosphere, class M; Ten separate energy sources... sir, the levels are off the chart - my guess is they're on a magnitude of 10000 times greater than a warp reactor each!"

"Looks like the 'plants' supply power to the entire planet. I'm not sure what type of energy source there using, can't get through the Dilithium shielding..., " said Koreth as he adjusted the sensors, "... but, they don't seem to produce any adverse affects to the planet or atmosphere. With the exception of the power output, there are no other emissions."

<Scan complete. Percentage of Ytterbium detected in atmosphere 0.000% Percentage of Ytterbium detected on planet 0.000%. Percentage of Ytterbium found in initial geological scans 0.000%.>

The Engineering crew breathed a collective sigh of relief. It seemed quite probable that the Issahi, and their weapons, did not use Ytterbium. Granted, they could have mined it from some other location, but Tarrant didn't think so.

"Which means that our enemy is still unknown." Tarrant ran the holo of the SERAPIS' destruction again. The staff had seen it a number of times, but they all watched it again anyway. The relief was short lived.

Suddenly the Issahi delegation, led by Cmdr. Maril, came into engineering. The toughened grey-green skin and yellow eyes of the Issahi were a sharp contrast to the humans in the room.

"... this is our Main Engineering." announced Maril standing to the side so the guests could see.

Meleah translated the presentation. But even as she did, the group seemed mesmerized by something in the room, and two from the back stepped forward. They had different markings on their skin that looked to be permanent, but un-natural.

Tarrant turned to see what was the cause of the stares, and realized it was the holo of the Serapis. It had run through and paused just before the explosion, the ship falling apart without its SIF.

In a slightly gutteral voice one of them spoke, luckily the translator had already decoded thier language into a useable form.

"This is what happened to your brothern vessel?"

Koreth rose and nimbly cleared his screen of the scans. "Yes. The SERAPIS."

The two Issahi looked at each other. One seemed ready to say something when the larger gave a quite Klingon-like growl.

'They knew something' thought Tarrant.

Maril and Meleah stepped in, "This is Lieutenant Koreth, our chief engineering officer.

USS FEYNMAN: What Did You Call Him?

by Kristen Gant 11-10-1996

Stardate: 81110.1005
Scene: Issahi Council Chambers
MD: 6.1815

Had the events unfolding before her eyes not have been so serious, Krysa would have almost chuckled at the look of surprise on Jerran's face as he heard they were going to put him on display!

Krysa focused her empathic energies on Ross as she'd been completely unable to get anything from the Issahi. There was something about Jerran that the human disliked, but she couldn't figure out exactly what it was. But the hostility was more then obvious.

She watched as Dr. Glin'kharr stepped forward to speak.

"First Council, perhaps this one is here to bring you a greater gift," Glin'kharr found himself saying, pointing at the FCO. All eyes turned to the Doctor, who felt his shackles rise. "...for this one may lead you to your lost treasure."

Jerran raised an eyebrow at Glin'kharr, who could only shrug in response...

Krysa returned her focus to Ross who was immediately surprised and indignant at the thought the despicable creature in front of him could be of any help. He was even more surprised when the First Counsel spoke again, "This creature is willing to give us this information."

Ross did not appear to know everything, Krysa mused, though he hid his surprise well.

Zane spoke quickly, "We are here to discuss a mutually beneficial alliance. I'm sure an exchange of any useful information will be a part of that."

The First Counsel looked at the FEYNMAN's commanding officer with a bit of a frown, then nodded. "That will be acceptable. However, we will not share a counsel table with a .." the universal translator was not able to translate the final word which Krazich spoke in his guttural tongue. Something Krysa couldn't even hope to repeat, let alone spell. However, the word was spoken with obvious distaste and was directed at Jerran. There were rumblings of agreement from those around.

Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

Zane stood and his fellow officers quickly followed suit. "If this is your decision we will of course respect it. I will report to the High Lord Nicholas that your people do not wish to establish diplomatic dialogue. Your representatives on my ship may stay until their tour is complete after that we will return to our space." He gestured impaitently to Glin'Kharr at his far right and the four Starfleet officers turned towards the exit. The council room went silent.

As they neared the doors Zane began to think that his bluff had not worked but as Glin'kharr crossed the threshold Krazich's voice boomed out. "Wait!" They stopped and turned. A dull murmur began to rise from th council members but it was quickly silenced as Krazich rose. "This....'being'...do you not know what it is?"

"I know who he is but I don't think you do." Zane challenged.

The counil broke out in a roar at such insolence from the strange little ape. Again Krazich silenced them, this time with a ear shattering roar of his own. "I know his kind all to well. They are evil."

Zane moved back towards the dais. "First Counsel, part of Lt. Jerran's ancestry is that of the planet Vulcan. They are a noble and peaceful race that were instrumental in founding the Federation. There ideals are based around logic, peaceful coexistence and their belief in infinite diveristy in infinite combinations. Vulcans as a people are not evil nor are they a threat to you or the Issahi. Vulcan as a planet is thousands of light years from your confederacy it is unlikely that you have ever encountered one before and if they had encountered you then the Federation as a whole would know. I do not know what race you have contact with that you find so evil but they are not Vulcan's whatever the appearance." The crowd began to murmur again but before Krazich quieted them Zane turned to face them. He shouted above the noise. "If you want to establish relations with the Federation then you do so with all its members and before you do that you must learn to trust as we have learnt to trust you."

The lingering silence that filled the room was broken by the bang of Krazich's staff upon the rock floor of the dias. "Your words are well taken Zane of the Federation but I alone can not make this decision." He turned to face the assembly. "The leaders of the Great Clans will assemble in the Hall of the Clans. Adjourned."

Four more Issahi joined Krazich on the dias and followed him down a long stone hallway. The honour guard motioned Zane and the others to follow. It seemed they were moving to a more private meeting with the ruling class. Perhaps now they would find out what it was the Issahi wanted from them and perhaps even what happend to the SERAPIS.

Scene: 10-Forward.

Bat looked on in disgust at the sight that was his bar. Maril had offered refreshements to the Issahi as he should. But now 35 minutes later Bat cringed as another 100 pounds of raw meat had been placed in front of them. He knew all races were different, none no better than another no matter how different their customs and traditions but this was just digusting. He'd never eat meat again. Of course the small group of Issahi who seemed to be vegetarians weren't making a salad look all that appetizing either. But through it all Commander Maril sat facing them, engaged in polite conversation as if they were sipping tea and nibbling on cucumber sandwiches. The old security officer remembered once again why he had never sought the command path. Diplomacy was too annoying. *But I bet those beasts can fight.* He thought approvingly.

<<<NRPG>>>

Maybe now we'll see just what the Issahi want/expect of us...I'm looking forward to finding out just what that is.

It'll also be interesting to see why the Issahi hate beings that look like Vulcans and just where they came from. Perhaps during the great schism on Vulcan part of the group that would later become Romulans left and headed out this way....I leave it up to you.

USS FEYNMAN: Slight Change In Plans

by Max Felsher 11-10-1996

SD 81110.1830(GMT)
MD 6.1900
SCENE: Ten-Forward

Maril watched the Issahi around him, gobbling up the food around them. At a lull in his conversation with one of their science officers, he politely got up and stepped over to the Issahi leader. "Second Counsel, could I talk to you in a more private area." Razten looked confused, but he nodded.

Maril quickly strode to the nearest turbolift, halting when the two reached it. "Ready Room."

Maril glanced at Razten, who was looking at him intently. They stood there for a second, sizing each other up, before the turbolift reached its destination.

"Ridero at the cave's entrance," Maril said, smiling, as he walked onto the Bridge, quickly noticing that t'Jon had the Conn. "Here we are."

The Tamarian and the Issahi both stepped into the Ready Room, Maril offering the seat on the other side of the table to Razten, then walking over to the replicator.

"Computer, ractajeno," Maril said in a surprisingly happy voice. "Would you like anything, Second Counsel?"

"No, pardon my unwillingness."

Maril grasped the cup of ractajeno and walked back to the table. "Very well. Now, Second Counsel, are you going to tell me what's going on?" Maril asked, sitting down, the smile now gone from his face.

"I do not know what you mean."

"Mr. Razten, I saw the looks on the faces of those two men down in Engineering. You have met this enemy before."

Razten and Maril stared at each other again, trying to decide who would give up first. At last, the Second Counsel relented. "Yes, we have met them--perhaps I should say it--many times before. It is called the Reavers, and nothing will stop it from achieving its goals." Razten pulled a small rod from his pocket. Tapping on it, he spoke into it. "Second Counsel Razten to Vigil. Beam the information."

Slowly, a small chip materialized in Razten's hand. He sliped into the console and stated, "Decode information sections 1A through 5J, authorization Second Counsel Razten, Issahi Confederacy Ship Vigil."

The designs on the screen cleared away to reveal text and graphics showing much information. "The Reavers do not obey any rules of conduct," Razten continued. "First, they take over one of their enemy's officers. They have tremendous mental powers. Once they have control, they can learn about the enemy ship's systems, and find a weakness. That is probably what happened with your brethren vessel."

Maril looked up, remembering the sensations he had been having lately. Was there any connection? Probably not; chances were it was his imagination. "Thank you, Second Counsel," he finally got out. "I hope we can be of further assistance to each other."

"As do I."

Their conversation was interrupted by a communication. [t'Jon to Commander Maril. I think you should come out here, sir.]

The two quickly got up and walked onto the Bridge. "Report," Maril ordered firmly.

"The shuttlepod 'Piaget' has left Shuttlebay 2 and engaged some sort of cloak. We just started a scan for it, but everything so far is negative."

"A cloak? The 'Piaget' is a Type-15A shuttlepod. They have no cloaks."

"I don't know, sir. Somehow it cloaked," t'Jon replied concernedly. "And that's not the worst of it. We have reason to believe that whoever took the shuttlepod downloaded files from our database and has them onboard."

"Commander," Razten interjected. "If that shuttlepod is heading for the Reavers, they would have an enormous asset in your files and vessel."

"Yes," Maril replied thoughtfully. He had a big decision to make. Should he go after the shuttlepod and abandon the away team? Or, should he accept that it was gone and stay in orbit? He finally decided on a compromise.

"Lieutenant Koreth, please report to the Bridge."

MD 6.2000

[This is Lieutenant Koreth, commanding the USS Nogura II, we're ready and in orbit.]

"You have your orders, Lieutenant. Feynman out." Maril sighed. "Security, project the current position of the 'Piaget' using last known heading and acceleration. Helm, when you get the coordinates, lay in a course for them at full impulse."

"Sir, the Issahi are offering their assistance in our search."

"Very well. Send a message thanking them for any help they can give us."

Maril sighed again. He had just ordered Lieutenant Koreth to take command of a group of shuttlecraft and orbit the Issahi homeworld. They were the runabout Nogura II, the Type 6 shuttlecrafts "Von Braun" and "Asimov II", and the Type 16 shuttlepod "Daystrom". He had ordered the company of shuttlecrafts to orbit to notify the Captain of Maril's doings and to give the away team some mobility, as well as to allow more research to be done on the Issahi planet. Unfortunately, Maril wasn't very sure of this plan, or its chances for success.

Minutes passed by, which seemed like days. J.C. was getting VERY angry that no one was answering him. *DAMN these computers anyway. Glad I never took engineering* thought the CSO. Setting his sidearm down on the desk, he thought *one more try*,

"Bridge, this is Security. Respond please.", said Justin. Still nothing. He closed the cover to the old-style communicator and put it back in his drawer. *I'll get to the bottom of this* J.C. left Security. The lift ride to the bridge seemed to take forever. Stepping out before the doors were even open all of the way, J.C. headed around to the Conn.... but skidded to a halt, mouth hanging open. He was looking at one of the Issahi Diplomats sitting quite comfortably in Zane's chair... he reached for his sidearm, but had put it in his desk.

******** * NRPG * ********
Hello all. I included a bit from my last post. Seems a few of you didn't get it (I guess). Anyway, I'm not sure of any way J.C. and company could help. Looks like Engineering, Science, and Medical have their hands full. Alas, poor J.C. has his own problems with 'short-circuits' everywhere. Let's hope someone can repair-stop these 'malfunctions'... like I said in my prior post, remember the USS YAMATO (ref. 'CONTAGION', TNG 2nd season).

Wonder what the Issahi is doing in the center seat? Wonder who stole the shuttle? Wonder who is invading Maril's mind [this time]? Wonder where the FCO has gone to? Wonder why J.C. is unarmed? Wonder if Zane will have any ears left after J.C. chews him out and beats him on the head with the 'fleet regulations, especially about Captains beaming down UNESCORTED, even on a diplomatic mission. For answers to these and other questions, tune in tomorrow for the continuing voyages of the USS FEYNMAN...

Cheers all,
Mike * now that should get some response, unless everyone left for
vacation without me. *

"Very well. Continue with your original mission. The FEYNMAN and the away team can worry about Jerran. It seem's you may have larger concerns for now. Keep me informed."

"Do you think they're related?" Jenn asked.

"If they're not that's one hell of a coincidence." Glin'kharr said with a scowl.

"Agreed." Zane added before turning to face one of the large Issahi guards. "We must see the First Counsel." The guard bowed his head in response and then shuffled off in the direction of the private meeting chambers.

"....Captain," Krazich continued, "again, I offer you my apologies. You are a guest on Issahi and as such are under my protection. I will mobilize all the units we have available to retrieve your shuttle. We have many warships surrounding the homeworld. It will not get far."

"And Lt. Jerran?" Zane asked finding it hard to trust the Saurian's after so many coincidences. "It is rather strange that he of all people would dissappear."

"It is." Krazich replied. His tone denoting that he too realized exactly how things looked. "But Captain please give us a little credit. If your Lieutenant Jerran is of a race that is important in your Federation what difference will taking him make. There will be of course others and personal desires aside, all Issahi can put up with a devil among us if it means crushing the greater evil."

"So who took him?" Zane asked, ignoring the question of the 'greater evil' for now.

"Presumambly the same one who stole your shuttle."

"Agreed." Zane nodded. "But that still doesn't point to any solutions. But I get the feeling you know who did this."

Krazich nodded grimly. "The Reavers."

"The Reavers?"

"The Reavers are a race of destroyer's. They destroyed your ship, they destroy our worlds and soon they will destroy yours."

"Go on." The captain prodded.

"Even now we know little about them." Krazich paused and opened a small urn and pulled out a small, wriggling rodent with the tip of his claws, it was quickly devoured. He offered the urn to each of the Starfleet officers who all politely declined the snack. With a slight smile he replaced the lid and swiveled in his chair to activate a viewscreen.

"Ten years ago a deepspace explorer just beyond the edge of one of our frontiers discovered a stable wormhole and entered it. On the other side they found a treasure house. Several systems that contained habitable worlds as well as worlds full of every mineral conceivable. Colonization began almost immediately and shortly there was a thriving, viable string of worlds. They came three years later." His face scrunched up into a sneer as on the viewscreen displayed large black ships began to descend on one of the colonies. "There was no warning and no contact other than death. The colonists fought and killed millions of them but the Reaver's kept coming. It was like a swarm. There weapons were no more powerful than our own. Indeed we fought well. But they kept coming...."

Zane sat forward a cold chill running down his spine. "Were these Reavers half flesh and half machine?"

Krazich smiled grimly. "No Captain they are not the Borg." He noted Krysa's raised eyebrow at his answer. "We have been watching you for sometime. No they were some sort of insect race. We could not understand their communications that we intercepted and they either did not understand or ignored the ones we sent them."

"As soon as the homeworld received word we sent a fleet to defend and retake the colonies from the invaders but they were no longer there." Krazich paused for another rodent.

"What do you mean they weren't there?" The doctor demanded.

"The Reaver's had stripped the colonies, the entire system, of everything. Nothing remained just lifeless balls of rock."

"What did you do?" Zane asked.

"The only thing we could do. The fleet returned to the other side of the wormhole and collapsed."

"And then?"

"And then we behaved like fools pretending it never happened. Pretending we were safe."

"Until now." Jenn answered.

"Eighteen months ago ships began to disappear out on the frontier."

Zane nodded. "The Reavers."

"At first we were unsure. The targets were only our warships by now they could have overrun several outlying worlds but it has only been our ships they have attacked. Six months ago however one of our sensor nets captured the image of two large ships, the same as the one that destroyed you cruiser. They are not like the one's that swarmed our colonies but when the sensor net picked up the same unintelligible signals between them there was a positive match with what had been recorded years ago." Krazich sat back in his chair. "They have come for us and if you do not help us defeat them they will come for you."

Well obviously FEYNMAN is not going to stem the coming tide so it is our duty to return to EPSILON and warn them. Of course we need to find out what we can as well as find answers to our two immediate mysteries.

"Commander Maril, he's coming around." The nurse said with voice of concern mixed with rising relief.

Allard slowly opened his eyes and focused on the Tamarain face staring down at him. "Lieutentant Allard? J.C? Can you hear me? Do you know who I am?" A name slowly emerged from the clouded dizziness that was his mind. It was Commander Maril. He was on the FEYNMAN. it all came flooding back to him. "What happened?" the young CSO asked in a quiet voice.

Maril paused because although he knew what happened he didn't know why it happened. Well that was not entirely true. "You came on to the bridge about 10 minutes ago. I had left the Issahi delegation in 10-Forward to take control of the search for the PIAGET. As you exited the turbolift you seemed disconcerted. You walked around the bridge and faced me in the command chair and started demanding to know why an Issahi had taken over. Thats when you collapsed. How is he?" This last was directed to one of the sickbay doctors. "I need him on the bridge."

The doctor looked skeptical. "I've given him every test I can think of and everyone points to him being absolutley fine. There is no trace of whatever made him collapse." The doctor looked down at Allard. "Lieutenant, under the circumstances I'm going to allow your release from sickbay but if you feel any disorientation, even for a second..."

"I'll come a running" He sat up and swung his legs round to the side of the biobed. "Promise."

"See that you do." The doctor had heard promises like that before.

The CSO jumped off of the diagnostic table, smoothing his uniform and looking alert as ever. Turning to the ACMO, J.C. asked,"Sir, am I dismissed? I'm 100% fit for dudy."

"I'll be the judge of that, Dr. Allard.", said the Doctor. J.C. shrank slightly at the mild rebuke from the Doctor, who was his senior. The ACMO retreived a med tricorder out of his jacket pocket, scanning Justin once more. Cycling through all of the readings, normal for a Terran male, the Doc nodded. "You're free to go, Lt., but you're ordered to report back here to me PRIOR to Alpha shift tomorrow. I want to check you out once more, just to be sure." Commander Maril, sitting on a bed opposite them, nodded in consent with the Doctor's order.

"Aye, sir." said the CSO, and bolted out the door.

Maril slid down off of the bed, shaking his head. "Like Jhocta before the Festival," said Maril to the ACMO.

The Doctor replaced the tricorder in his desk, and hung his white jacket over the back of his chair. "Commander, if you mean he's full of energy and wants to have fun, I agree. I would attribute 90% of that to youthfulness. As with all species I know of, unfortunately he'll grow out of it.

USS FEYNMAN: A Possible Agreement

by Kristen Gant 11-16-1996

Stardate: 81116.1013
Scene: First Counsel's Private Chamber
MD: 6.2045

>"They have come for us and if you do not help us defeat them they will
come for you."

Krysa listened to the ominous tone of the First Council and felt a shiver run through her. "You think it was the Reavers who took Lt. Jerran." She asked, "Why? If they have the power to destroy worlds, why just steal our FCO and a shuttlepod."

The First Council looked at her. "I do no think it was the Reavers, themselves .. but they have conquered many worlds, they have many minions to do their dirty work. We, of course will do anything we can to help in your efforts to find your officer."

"Thank you, First Counsel." Zane said.

MD: 6.2200

When Captain Zane, Dr. Glin'kharr and Lt. Jenn finally stepped out of the First Counsel's chambers they had come to a temporary diplomatic agreement. The Issahi would help locate Jerran and the shuttlepod and Zane would plead their case to Starfleet to get the help they needed for the threat the Issahi were sure was coming.

They all knew there wasn't much the FEYNMAN could do to stave off an attack by the Reavers should they come, that wasn't something Krazich had expected. He wanted help from all of Starfleet.

The Captain turned to Glin'kharr and Krysa. "Id love to hear your thoughts on all of this.

Krysa shuddered a bit, and Glin'kharr spoke, "We'd be egotistical if we thought that we were the most powerful group out there. I think the Borg taught us that once. It seems we may be in for another lesson if we don't prepare."

"Definitely." Agreed Zane. "And once we find Jerran, we'll head to EPSILON. However, the question is how do we find him?"

Krysa nodded, "I don't know. The thing I don't understand is why? Why Jerran and a shuttlepod of all things."

"We know the Issahi seem to think that Jerran is a part of some destructive race. I think it's likely it could be some Issahi somewhere who wants to get even." Said Glin'kharr

"It's possible," said Zane thoughtfully, "But these Issahi seem very united. It seems they've had to become such due to the Reavers. And the First Counsel doesn't believe it was one of his people."

"The FEYNMAN didn't spot a ship in orbit. Nor have any of the Shuttles been able locate on in the vicinity." Said Krysa.

"A cloak?" asked Glin'kharr.

"The Issahi do not have a working cloak as of yet."

"The Klingons do." Said Krysa, "As do the Romulans."

The three officers looked at each other. Krysa shook her head, "No .. Romulans working with the Reavers? I just don't see it."

"Perhaps not," said Zane. "But it does explain why the Issahi are so unhappy about Jerran's presence. If the Romulans are involved, they wouldn't be happy to see any Vulcanoid."

Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

NRPG: I'm sorry guys, I'm still sorta confused on how to bring all the pieces together, so I hope this doesn't mess anything up. No one knows about Jerran's little trip the last time, so they aren't likely to think it up this time.. so I wasn't sure how to go about finding him.

USS FEYNMAN: You Play With Ytterbium, You're Gonna Get Burned, er...Lose Your SIF

by Max Felsher 11-17-1996

SD 81117.1430 (GMT)
MD 6.2100
SCENE: Bridge

Maril looked over the PADD containing information on the search for the "Piaget". It had been Bepela's quest for the jerexi (unicorns). Nothing. Not even a clue.

Sighing, Maril stood up from the center chair. He quickly glanced about him, then walked over to the Operations console.

"Mr. Garret, do you think we could narrow the search?" Maril asked, placing his hand on the back of the chair.

"I don't see why not, sir."

"Well, we're looking for a Federation Type 15A shuttlepod. So, why don't we reduce the search to Federation impulse speed trails."

"Aye, sir."

<<<<NRPG:Garret probably isn't even on the ship anymore, but my rotation lists are very outdated. :| This is probably a good time to remind everyone to send in their current rotation rosters. And if you don't...., well, let's just say you better remember. <evil laugh>>>>>

Maril sighed, looking at the PADD again, and walked over to the Command Chair. He started to sit back down, but, as he did, Garret called out, "Sir, we've got a trail. It's heading away from the Issahi homeworld towards a belt of planetoids."

The FO smiled, sitting down, and ordered, "Mirabi, his sails unfurled. Towards the mountains."

The helmsman looked questioningly at Maril, causing the Tamarian to laugh. "Set course on that heading. Full impulse."

"Setting course, sir, at full impulse."

"Engage."

Time passed. Maril read over several reports contunuously updating him on the situation. He paced the Bridge, waiting for them to find something of significance. Finally, he just sat down again, thinking that he would be taken by the storms of Ivepic, the Mind-Stealer. And there was always that cold feeling lurking just on the edge of his mind--not acting, but waiting.

"Sir, we've reached the trail's end," Garret reported.

"Where does it lead?" Maril asked, grateful to have the silence broken.

'It, just seems...to go right into the surface of an asteroid."

"Some information on the asteroid?"

"It's about two kilometers in diameter, composed mostly of curium and plutonium."

"Sir," Lt.(jg) Allard cut in, concerned, "I don't think that we should stay here much longer. The radiation levels are very high, and they're blocking our sensors."

Maril nodded. "Helm, set course out of the asteroid belt. We'll come back when we have more help."

"Aye, sir, course set and laid in, sir."

"Full impulse, en-"

"Commander! A vessel has just moved from behind the asteroid. It looks like they're weapons are powering up. And something that looks like a deflector dish is emitting a lanthanide rare-earth element...atomic number 70...it's ytterbium."

Maril felt uneasy for a second, as if controlled by fear, but he quickly took control of himself. "Computer, access data in Ready Room console. Compare later ships to nearby vessel."

The computer took a few moments to find its answer, but finally, it reported, <Ships compared. Styles match.>

Maril nodded, wishing they hadn't matched. "Helm, keep us in the exact same position. Mr. Allard, power up phasers and arm photon torpedoes. Ops, I need some way to keep the SIF up even with ytterbium."

Allard spoke up again. "Commander, we have a problem. In our current state, if the SIF and IDF don't work, the slightest hit from a weapon could cause inertial forces to exceed 5g."

Maril frowned. "Very well. Helm, set course, heading 343, mark 50, accelerating at about 20 meters per square second."

"But sir! That's almost right on top of the other ship."

"Yes, they won't want to get in our way, will they? Engineering, divert as much power as you can to the SIF/IDF and the shields."

"Course laid in, sir."

"Engage."

Almost as soon as he said the word, Maril regretted it. What if the SIF failed? What if the Reavers called his bluff?

"1.5 kilometers...1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1,..."

"The other ship is firing weapons. Shields are holding. What is that?"

Maril quickly turned around. "What?" he asked curiously.

".4, .2,..."

"It looks like an Issahi ship. The Issahi are firing on the other ship."

"We've passed the hostile ship, sir."

Maril nodded. "As soon as we've cleared the area, start decelerating maneuvers, at 20 meters per square second."

"Aye, sir."

"Report, Mr. Allard," Maril turned back to the CSO.

"They're doing about equal damage to each other, but it looks like the Issahi are getting the upper hand."

Maril allowed himself a small sigh of relief, but quickly got back to business. "Keep those shields up, Mr. Allard."

"Aye, sir. It looks like the Issahi have disabled the hostile ship."

"Contact them and tell them not to destroy it. Any large explosion could destroy us."

"They're receiving it, sir. They're hailing us."

"On screen."

A small Issahi on a bridge similar to that on the other ships they had seen appeared on the screen. "Greetings, Feynman," the captain started. "It appeared that you needed help. I hope we were of assistance."

Maril stood up, grateful. "You were. I thank you for your help. We should be operational soon."

"Very well. We will be in the area if you need further assistance."

"Thank you. Feynman out."

The screen flickered back to a view of the asteroid field they had just left. "Maril to Lieutenant Meleah."

[Meleah here.]

"I want you to keep working on combatting the effect of the ytterbium. That is your top priority."

[Understood.]

"Good. Maril out."

Scene: Shuttle-Pod 'Piaget'

Onboard shudders a changling, cracks and pitts have formed all over due to an inability to return to a liquid state. There is no movement of the stars floating by the window, for it has landed on an asteroid.

"PLEASE!!.. please... get out of my head... I must rest."

A whimper, almost like that of a crying babe emits from the creature.

"I had such plans.. I was going to get them.. heh, but YOU! ... YOU Won't get out of my HEAD!...

What? Soon? I've brought it... Brought ALL I could... Please... let me rest."

Question after question bombards the changling's open mind. Helpless to defend, it answers each... hoping that after each the promises of rest will be granted.

Over ten data crystals filled with information about not only the FEYNMAN, but Starfleet in general lie in a engineering kit. *They* told him to get it, and they explained how to add the components to create the temporary cloak around the pod.

Suddenly a computer terminal flashes with light. Three words flash on it. "We Are Here"

Without a second thought the changling turns liquid. Seconds later a beam of light engulfs the pool of color and the data crystals....

Tarrant listened to Jerran's tale of Romulan Pirates, and the tear. Needless to say he could tell that there were a few details left out.. something he couldn't help noticing due to that old CSO training. By the look of the Captain's eyes, Tarrant guessed that he thought the same.

"Since the Issahi believe this to be their property, then I suggest we avoid using it all together."

"Why, Lieutenant?" asked Zane. He figured that the CEO would have liked to see the artifact work... and extract as much data as possible.

"The Issahi know the capabilities of our vessels. If suddenly we 'disappeared', and knowing that we have their devil incarnate Mr. Jerran, who looks like those who took the thing to begin with.. I doubt it would go unnoticed."

>
>"At ease, LT," Zane said calmly, with some surprise in his voice as to his
>FCO's actions.
>
>By this time, Jerran was actually half standing when he took a moment and
>looked around. Just as quickly as his emotional outburst happened, his
>face went back to the normal, cold poker face everyone was used to by now

>"I am sorry, Captain. I'm afraid my cultural heritage is not allowing me
>to distance myself from the situation at hand. It's just that I've always
>been taught that the Tears were irrevocably linked to the Bajora, but it's
>obvious that I was wrong."

"I tend to agree." Zane answered. "However, at this point we are not in a position to really make demands of the Issahi nor should we if we want our fledgling relationship to grow. Of course Federation treaties direct me to return the property of a Federation member or citizen for that matter whenever such a item is found."

"Well the tear is certainly an item the Bajorans will want back." Jerran replied.

"So your going to return it to the Bajorans?" Krysa asked.

"No, I'm going to ask the Issahi to do that." He put the empty coffee mug down. "After Jerran returns it to them."

Koreth looked thoughtful. "For Jerran to return the tear would add proof to your claims that he is not of an evil race. But I do not think they will give the tear to the Bajorans so simply."

"They will if they want our help." Zane replied. "Obviously it is in the Federation's best interest to help stop the Reavers now, and of course we will give aid. But with a Council divided by clans I imagine Krazich will appreciate how deadlocked such an assembly as the Federation Council can be on such an issue as possibly entering into a war to save a previously unknown race."

"And you think he'll understand that a little quid pro quo of will 'grease the wheels' a little?" Kyrsa asked looking like she wasn't sure if she approved of backroom dealing.

"Well I'll certainly give it my best shot...." He was interrupted by a call from the cockpit.

[[Captain, incoming call from the FEYNMAN.]]

"Pipe it back here." Zane turned to face the screen but made sure he left enough room for the rest to see. "Perhaps Commander Maril has found our missing shuttle."

As the UFP logo flashed off the screen it was replaced by a rather haggard looking first officer. He quickly related the events of finding the shuttles trail, the battle and the possible discovery of a Reaver base in the asteroid field.

"What are the Issahi doing?"

[[A large portion of their Homefleet is moving into position to pulverize the asteroid. There has been no response from the base.]]

Zane cringed. While the destruction might be satisfying it certainly wouldn't help answer any questions. "You're on the scene. Contact the fleet commander and explain the importance of prisoner's and intact bases. If we can turn this into a ground assault we might be able to gain some information that will help us defeat them. But this is Issahi space so ultimately its their call. Either way we'll be there in.." He looked over at Koreth who mouthed the answer. "...10 minutes. Zane out."

Zane leaned over and picked up the tear, looking at it thoughtfully. "If things are going this fast their may be no Issahi to give this too."

<<<NRPG>>>

Just keeping the ball rolling....

Max: Sorry to hear about your relative. Don't worry about us here take all the time you need.

If you do get to post before you leave have the shuttle arrive back at the FEY and then lead an away team down to take the base in conjunction with the Issahi. (or even just an NRPG saying who you'd like to go.) If not I'll set something up on Sat am.

USS FEYNMAN: Home Sweet Home

by Kristen Gant 11-22-1996

Stardate: 81122.2142
Scene: Runabout Nogura II
MD: 6.2300

The back section of the Runabout remained silent after the word of the discovery of the possible Reaver Base. Jerran seemed to be struggling with the issue of the tear. Krysa could understand. The Captain wanted us to just hand the valuable artifact over and hope they would return it to the Bajorans.

She felt his mind block, strong as ever, making sure she got practically nothing from him. Once or twice she caught him looking at her, grim as ever. She sighed, knowing that he was on guard and wasn't going to allow her to try and help.

She looked at Zane who was equally lost in thought, she was sure his concerns centered around the Reavers. If it was truly a Reaver Base what chance did the Issahi or the FEYNMAN stand. Particularly after what the Reavers had apparently done to the SERAPIS.

There was a knock at the aft door and the Ensign who had been piloting the runabout while the senior officers sat in the back entered. "We're aboard the FEYNMAN now, sirs."

The three men looked at each other. All had been so lost in their thoughts, they'd not been paying attention to the Nogura's approach to the FEYNMAN. Krysa smiled lightly but was ignored by the others as they hurried out of runabout, bound for the bridge. She shrugged and followed them.

Scene: Bridge

Once on the bridge Krysa headed to the Ops station. Patricia looked up at her when she asked, "What did we get, Ens. Garrett?"

"Practically nothing, mostly due to the radiation."

Krysa nodded and took the seat her AOps vacated at her approach. Garrett pointed out a few odd reading and then excused herself leaving Krysa to see what she could figure out from the data.

Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: Is Today A Good Day To Die?

by Jason Bostjancic 11-24-1996

SD: 81124
MD: 7.0700
Scene: ReadyRoom

> "The Issahi offensive will begin in 2 hours. As I made clear to
>Captain Jilithi we will not be participating." To their credit both
>officers remained impassive. "Once the shields go down I want you to lead
>a heavily armed team of primarily security and engineering into the base
>and retrieve our shuttle. If you can't escape with it, scuttle her. At
>the same time find out as much as you can about anything you come across.
>As I said, we are not at war with the Reavers and I don't want us to be
>the ones to start it. If you are attacked defend yourselfs. But your
>goal is to find the shuttle and return with it. Are there any questions?"

Tarrant thought about the situation quickly, realizing there were many factors involved which they had little to no control over once the invasion started. What's worse, there was almost no information as to the Reaver base. All they knew was that some type of transporter had beamed the Shuttlepod (and assumingly it's passenger) into the base some hours ago... even though the crew manifest registered that all FEYNMAN crew were aboard and accounted for.

"Sir, have the Issahi given us any intellegence information regarding the Reavers, their base, weapons... anything useful?"

<NRPG: Andy?>

"If the Reavers have done any testing on the Shuttlepod which would use the impulse or warp engines we should be able to follow the signature right to it once we're inside the base." Thought the CEO aloud. Zane nodded.

<Ensign Dunnon to Lt. Koreth>

"Koreth here, what is it Ensign?"

<I've found something here which you might want to see.>

"Sum it up for me Dunnon, I'm a little busy here."

<Well, someone downloaded a lot of information from our computer into data crystals just before the Shuttlepod was stolen. It was well hidden, and I wouldn't have even picked it up except I was running a class 2 diag...>

Dunnon had a mouth that just wouldn't stop. So Zane interrupted.

"Ensign, this is Captain Zane. What information was extracted?" the tone in his voice was borderline anger.

<Sir.. um, it appears to be specs on the Feynman, Starfleet activities, bases, outposts, other ships....>

"Understood."

NRPG: Do our orders remain the same? :)

Ah, something I can sink my teeth into! I'll finish up my end of the meeting once some answers are forthcoming.

USS FEYNMAN: Lend-Lease

by Andrew Catterick 11-24-1996

SD:81124.1300
MD:7.0600
View: Outside the FEYNMAN of the Issahi Fleet Circling the Asteroid

"Captains log, supplemental...The events of the past 24 hours have sped by as if they had been preordained but now we find ourselves in a rather uncharacteristic pause. A pause before a great storm. After the initial battle with the Reaver ship the base has been overtly quiet. This has given the Issahi homefleet time to move in and surround it. After the destruction of the Reaver ship the base made some attempts to send out communications packages but have since stopped due to Issahi jamming. Fortunately these messages were recorded and have been passed along to Ensign Loth and his team trying to crack the Reaver code.

It is the Issahi intention to overrun the base as soon as they feel their net is complete. From monitoring their communications it seems they are filled with a strong sense of apphrehension however the destruction of the Reaver ship is serving to reawaken their warrior emotions. Either way the assault will most likely be a bloody one.

Captain Jilithi, the homefleet's tactical officer and third in command has come aboard to discuss the operation."

___________________
Scene: Conference Lounge

The large Saurian sat down slowly in the modified chair that had been provided for her. Her tailed slipped slowly back and forth as if it did not believe the fragile looking seat would support her weight. It did but not without a few troublesome creaks.

"Welcome aboard Captain it is an honour to have you here." Zane began.

"There is no time for pleasantries Captain. The assault will begin in three hours and I have much to do. My science officer informs me you have information that will aid us. I am here to retreive it and to discuss your ship's role in the coming operation."

"Captain all the information has been forwarded to your flagship there is nothing more to add. We were hoping that your people would be able to provide some more answers."

"Captain I am not a scientist, I can look at the summaries but I believe to truly utilize information one must understand it completly. I could have my staff explain it to me but it is your staff who have made these breakthroughs and, therefore, their right to explain. Proceed."

"Lt. Meleah." Zane gestured towards the science officer.

<<<NRPG: Mealnie feel free (or not) to explain the defence you have come up with to him. Ted, likewise the possible language breakthrough.>>>

Jilithi looked somewhat pleased at the information. Before these Starfleeters had come things had looked quite bleak. But now in less than 24 hours they had destroyed a Reaver ship, found a hidden base almost on top of the homeworld, taken a first step towards cracking the strange click and buzzes that passed for the Reaver language and now they had a defense against The Weapon. Certainly it wasn't a foolproof one but even if it saved each ship from only one shot it would effectively double the size and power of his fleet. Perhaps the First Counsel was right and these strangers could help. Well, their technology maybe but certainly the fighting would be left to the real warriors. These puny Starfleeters could certainly not face the Reavers with out wetting themselves.

"As for our place in the battle.." Zane began

"Your ship is very powerful for its size Captain, we would like to give you the honour of leading the third wave." It was clear from her voice that she did not agree with the offer. It had probably been made by the First Counsel himself.

A silence slid through the room. "That is not possible."

The Saurian frowned. "Surely you do not see yourself leading the Fleet." She challenged.

"This is not our fight...yet. As Captain of a Federation Starship I have wide discretionary powers but they do not include starting a war. For the FEYNMAN to participate in such an assault would be tantamount to doing just that."

"You coward!" Jilithi snarled as she rose from the chair slowly. "No you are worse than a coward you are a fool. We will be destroyed by the Reaver's and then they will come for you. The only chance of stopping them is to ally ourselves against them. If you do not have the backbone then Lord Nicholas must send someone who does!"

"Sit down!" Zane ordered in a tone he hadn't used since his security days. Surprised the Saurian did so.

"I agree with you completly and I am am certain that the Federation will to. But until that time I am duty-bound to remain neutral and try to communicate with the Reavers. There is still the possibility that this war can be diverted and as a Starfleet Captain I must exhaust all possibilities. Since the discovery of the base we have been trying to establish contact with the Reavers but have remained unsuccessful."

"So you will watch as brave warriors give their lives to protect you!"

"No we will conduct an operation of our own. A shuttle has been stolen and we will retrieve it. If we encounter resistence we will extinguish it. But we will not bombard the base nor will we be joining your ground troops.

"And that is your final decision."

"It is the only decision to make."

"I will leave you then." Jilithi said clearly disgusted.

"Wait." Zane rose. "Lt. Koreth, Mr. Allard report to my ready-room in 10 minutes. Everone else dismissed."

With the officers gone Zane walked over to the Saurian. "I know how you feel about me but my hands are tied. But for what it is worth I am completly of the same mind as you. The Reavers are as much our enemy as they are yours."

"Brave talk for someone who prefers to slink in the shadows while true warriors go out to die."

"Listen to me! I do not want war with the Reavers and I will do everything in my power to stop it. But I will not run away from it. When you have overcome the base's shields we will land an assault team to retrieve our shuttle. It is likely that they will encounter opposition. I know that is not enough for you now but it will be in the longrun. The Federation Council must make the decision and to do that they need proof that the Reavers have already warred against us. If I go in guns blazing then some will think that it is Starfleet that started the war. That we did not do enough to prevent it. Eventually they will know the truth but how many Issahi will die until then. This is the only way."

"You are all cowards." Were her final words.

USS FEYNMAN: Tension In The Air

by Kristen Gant 11-25-1996

Stardate: 81125.1253
MD 7.0800
Scene: Bridge

Captain Zane stood leaning over the science station along with Lt. Jenn, studying the difference in the communication pattern. They all watched the dancing light patterns on the console in front of them. When place side by side, the differences became clear.

"Could it be an advanced scout?" asked Jenn. "Sending a homing beacon to the Reavers." There was a clear sense of dread in her voice.

"The Ceevan." Said a quiet voice behind her. They turned to see Jerran standing there his face as emotionless as usual. "It's the Ceevan." Something in the emotionlessness of his voice and his face was enough silence them all. Even Loth who had been gloating over his discovery.

Zane nodded, "It's a possibility. Perhaps our fractured Romulan faction has become somewhat of a 'Jem'Haddar' for the Reavers."

Krysa shuddered visibly, the others though showing no outward signs, understood the woman's apprehension. "Should we inform the away team?"

Zane shook his head. "It's not going to make a difference in their mission. Besides, I don't think we should make any rash judgments until we hear what Koroth finds." He turned to Commander Maril who was standing just a short distance away. "Commander, you have the bridge, I'll be in my ready room." Zane turned and headed to his ready room, leaving the other officers watching behind him.

Krysa moved to sit back at Ops. There really wasn't much for her to do right now but continue to scan the area. However, her mind began to wander unfortunately not to the things she should have been thinking about.

MD 7.0820

"Krysa?" Jerran called. The Ops officer didn't answer as she leaned back in her chair.

"Lt.!" called Maril.

Krysa spun to look at him, "Sir?"

"You need to recalibrate your right sensor sweep," he said sternly.

Krysa looked down at her panel and saw the light blinking. "Of course, sir." She said quickly making the adjustments that any first year cadet ought to do without even thinking during a sensor sweep.

Jerran chuckled, "Now you know why I don't let you fly my ships anymore."

Krysa grinned at him. "That's because you don't know how to share, Mr. Jerran. Something most kindergartners have already learned."

The light hearted joking had served to relieve a bit of tension from the bridge. However, Mr. Maril was not amused.

"This is the bridge of a starship, Lts." He said from behind them. Krysa looked up at him and nodded. She could see the tension in his face as well as feel it emanating from him. He'd been kept off the last two away teams and she could see that he wasn't pleased about it.

The past week, surveying the wreckage of the SERAPIS and the introduction of the Reavers, had been difficult on the entire crew. They'd known it wouldn't be a pleasant mission, and they'd prepared as best they could. But it was impossible for any of them to simply brush off the effects of the devastation they'd had to salvage.

And now with the introduction of an enemy like the Reavers, who seemed to have little regard for any form of life, the crew was becoming overwhelmed. She knew that was a part of her distraction. She still made it a habit of surveying the general feelings of the crew and the more agitated they became, the more agitated she also found herself.

Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN NRPG: Kevin Joins

by Andrew Catterick 11-26-1996

Kevin,

Welcome to the FEYNMAN!! Unfortunately I'm heading out the door to work :( so this will be fairly brief but I fill you in on the rest later today.

-First off I'll send you a summary of our mission thus far so you won't be lost when you get here...that means you'll be the only one.

-the FEYNMAN homepage is at http://homepage.interaccess.com/~sgant/feynman.htm... there you will find a rather thin FAQ for the ship, specs and a summary of the last two missions.

-I'll also send you a copy of the current roster and bio file if you could send me a copy of your bio then I can update them and send them out to everyone.

-now the tricky part....our CNS is still in the ship;) Donna resigned but said she would write a final post...unfortunately due to RL that hasn't happened yet so I was going to write her character staying behind when the mission ended (I didn't think we'd get a replacement so fast) So when you arrive you might want to explain why you got sent here;) Its a intense diplomatic mission so maybe as backup.

Running late...more later...everyone say hi to the best ship in the Fleets newest victim....play nice <EG>

SB EPSILON: Ens. Loren Landers Reporting

by Kevin Thigpen 11-25-1996

Stardate: 81123.0900
Scene: SB ALPHA---->SB EPSILON

Ens. Loren Landers slept fitfully that night after receiving his assignment. Adm. Crowell had been curt, to the point, but also non-complimenting.

From his body language, Loren could tell Crowell thought him well suited for a position as CNS, but nothing else.

Still, he was here in Starfleet after a long uphill climb. After being alone for most of his life and having to fend for himself, it felt good to be part of a team, a kind of family almost... Starfleet.

The next morning, Loren headed for the shuttlebay where he ran into Ens. Allan Desoto, the same Ens. he had trained with on Armstrong Lunar Base.

"Hey, Landers," came the call from across the shuttlebay. Allan walked up to Landers, beaming from ear to ear. "I got my assignment. I headed for Green Fleet and SB Delta. I think I might get a posting as NAV officer for the LEVIATHAN out there, but I'm not sure. What about you?"

"Adm. Crowell has assigned me to Silver Fleet. Looks like I'm going to be a CNS." said Loren.

"Loren, you sound dissappointed," stated Desoto.

"No, I'm actually quite happy that I got this assignment. I prefer helping people and with my...special abilities...I seem to have a knack with knowing how people are up here," said Landers pointing to his head.

"Well, I wish you the best of luck Loren Landers. Maybe, we'll run up on each other again," said Desoto.

"The same here Desoto, see you around."

Loren watched Desoto clamber into his runabout headed for Green fleet before climbing in his shuttle headed for silver fleet.

The Shuttle named the Harrah was packed with new personnel headed for SB EPSILON. Loren took a seat in the passenger compartment of the shuttle and called up the fleet roster for Silver fleet. He intended to do some studying while waiting for arrival at SB EPSILON.

The D-warp shuttle experience was somewhat uneventful for Loren, with one exception. Upon entering the netherworld of D-warp, Loren felt a minor tingle...not physical, but mental. *It's as if my telepathic powers were suddenly skewed in some way* he thought. The feeling was so strange that Loren couldn't even describe it to himself.

Seeing as this was his first actual D-warp trip, Loren was glad when it was over and the pilot announced their docking at SB EPSILON.

Leaving his possesions with a yeoman, Loren made his way to CINCSILVER's office and his new assignment.

>office and his new assignment.

The outer office was abuzz with activity. Most were crowded around viewscreens watching some official ceremony and even the secretary to the Vice Admirals office was intent on watching. Loren could feel air of expectation and celebration before he even left the turbolift doors.

[Out of the deaths we will find life, out of the sorrow we will find hope. To do anything less would dishonour those who have gone before us . . . those who have died. I call upon you to join together, bound by the loss of comrades and of ships I call upon you to form a new, stronger force.]

He crossed to look over a few shoulders at the viewscreen. It showed a full crew standing at attention in a very large cargo deck. On a dias before them stood some officer headed by a single dominant figure of a Vice Admiral. Loren correctly assumed his assignment might be put on hold for a few moments and watched, half his attention on the screen but an equal half on the staff around him. As the Admiral continued he saw some tears form and be wiped away as well as some smiles. It was like attending a funeral at which a new birth is announced. As the commissioning ceremony ended he saw a few shake their heads in wonder and some money pass hands.

The secretary was dabbing her eyes as she saw the betazoid approach. "I'm sorry the Vice Admiral is not here right now but if you'd like to wait I am sure that . . . "

She never finished her sentence as the Turbolift doors opened and a huge bear of a man crossed the room and came up the to the secretary. 'Hrrmf, he next for me? Right then, come on."

So saying the Admiral Nicholas entered his office followed by a bemused Ensign. "Bio chip?" Taking the proferred chip he slotted it into a reader, skimmed it, then spun it back across the table to the CNS. "I have been wailing for CNS's for months now. It's nice to see that they finally saw fit to listen. I have two openings for someone of your calibre but unfortunatly only one slot that would truly suit you. The other is on a mission into Klingon territory and not what I think would be the best way for you to start."

"It would be . . . uncomfortable." Agreed the Ensign, when it became obvious the Admiral was waiting for a response.

"Hrrmf, uncomfortable eh? Well then, that leaves us with putting you onto a D-warp . . . .what?" Grey eyes snapped to meet the dark ones of the Betazoid.

"Sir?"

"Your reaction when I mentioned D-Warp. Have some difficulties coming over?"

"No, no, I just feel like I have been in it for a while now, hard to get my 'legs' back." The Counsellor lied, unsure how he could explain his feelings about D-warp to an Admiral when he had yet to even find words for them for himself.

"Well, get them back once you reach the Feynman because that is where you are going to be the new head counsellor. Ops will give you docking bay and departure time so dismissed Ensign, dismissed."

USS FEYNMAN: CNS2 On The Way

"No, no, I just feel like I have been in it for a while now, hard to get my 'legs' back." The Counsellor lied, unsure how he could explain his feelings about D-warp to an Admiral when he had yet to even find words for them for himself.

"Well, get them back once you reach the Feynman because that is where you are going to be the new head counsellor. Ops will give you docking bay and departure time so dismissed Ensign, dismissed."
-------------------------------------------------------------

Loren gathered the information he needed to know from a young Lt. in station ops. Apparently not much had been heard from the FEYNMAN since their encounter with an alien race. The ship's last coordinates were known, and it was also known that the ship was in the midst of a very tense situtaion.

The Isaahi were pretty important to the Federation right now, and they didn't want to take any chances so they were sending a functional telepath out to ease the contact situation.

A D-warp shuttle was heading in the direction of the FEYNMAN and Loren had been ordered aboard it. Lately, d-warp was a mode of travel he didn't care that much about. But right now, Loren knew he had to put his personal discomfort aside because there was a ship out there that needed him.

"Sir," stated the cheery Chief Petty Officer from the door to the shuttle Elseveier, "We're cleared for departure and we have your belongings stowed."

Loren shook off his misgivings about d-warp and clambered into the shuttle. Apparently, the CPO accompanying him was headed to a colony a few parsecs away from the FEYNMAN's last coordinates. *At least, I'll have company on this one* contemplated Loren.

["Shuttle Elseveier, you are cleared for departure"] came the announcement from station ops.

"This is Chief Petty Officer Burrows. Acknowledged SB EPSILON." Burrows tapped in the departure sequence while Loren sat back. Shuttle piloting was not one of Loren's best skills.

The shuttle moved silently through the docking bay doors into open space where Burrows pointed the shuttle in the right direction and engaged d-warp. As the shuttle lept into netherspace, Loren prepared himself for the unexpected.
------------------------------------------

As the Elseveier came out of D-warp, Loren shook his head. *That one was just as weird as the last one* thought Loren.

Burrows ran a check of the shuttle systems as the Elseveier came to a relative stop outside of the star system in which the FEYNMAN was located.

"You alright sir," said Burrows eyeing Loren. He had never seen d-warp have that kind of effect on anyone before. *This guy is practically shaking*

Suddenly, a warning bleep came from the sensor console. Loren came out of his daze as his hands moved over the controls.

"It looks like there is an ship approaching. Ship recognition programs can't identify it..."

"Whoever they are they're moving in really close," stated Burrows.

Loren eyes seem to glaze for a moment before, "I'm raising the shields and arming weapons. See if you can contact the FEYNMAN."

A warning klaxon went off a split second before the shuttle rocked from a weapons discharge from the approaching ship.

Burrows began evasive manuevers while Loren returned fire as best he could. Unfortunately, the two Starfleet officers were so focused on combating the first attacking ship, they fail to notice the other come out from behind a nearby planetoid.

The second ship slammed the shuttle with as much firepower as it could muster.

The Elseveier ducked under the fire of the first ship while returning fire to the second hostile. Energy blasts spread across the bow of the shuttle as it desperately ducked and weaved, but it was overmatched.

"Shields buckling...torpedoes and phasers down..." were the last words for Burrows as his control console exploded peppering his face with the fragments.

Loren shielded himself with his arm but to no avail. The blast rendered him unconscious as well. The world went dim as the Elseveier floated adrift and Loren saw the two unidentified ships close in...

NRPG: Hi all! Once again, it's a pleasure to uhmm..be aboard...kind of. Guess what. Help me! So far, I see two options. The attacking ships were Reavers out for more Federation tech.
1)Loren will be found when the away team from the FEYNMAN raids the Reaver base.
2)The Reavers didn't jam the shuttle's mayday and the FEYNMAN will break

Of course, someone could have something more original in mind which is fine by me.

USS FEYNMAN: Countdown

by Jason Bostjancic 11-26-1996

SD: 81126
MD: 7:0800
Z-minus 1 hour before the Issahi attack would come.

The choices for this mission had to be made carefully, and thus Koreth and Allard's time had been spent mainly on that.

Anyone in the two departments who had high levels of combat and engineering training or experience was automaticly 'volunteered'. That consisted of 8 people... which included Dunnon, K'tal, and Majkel from engineering.

<Any NPC security choices?>

Tarrant, true to his nature, also made some adaptations to the Phaser Rifles which would be issued to all. A modified tricorder would be securely fastened to the top section of each rifle - thus allowing full scanning ability without putting the weapon down. Each tricorder was stripped of all general starfleet information in case it fell to enemy hands.

There was one further addition the two officers wanted. An asset combat-wise and science-wise, and a powerhouse when it came to processing data.

Lts. Koreth and Allard walked in to find the lab hard at work on the ytterbium equation... as was the CSO Lt. Meleah.

"Lieutenant, " said Koreth as he approached the android, "If at all possible would you be able to join us on the away 'team' in recovering the stolen Shuttlepod?"

Scene: Tarrant's Quarters

Tarrant sat on the floor, legs crossed, with the lights dimmed. Before him lies his Katana, wrapped in a sheath of some crimson cloth. Each race of which he belonged had different rituals performed before oncoming battles... the Feynman officer had adapted elements of both to his own.

"Grant me strength against my enemies, power to endure what is to come, honor for my deeds, the knowledge to obtain success, and forgiveness for what I may have to do."

Just trying to set a mood.

Meleah would be VERY helpful on the mission, if she can get away from the lab for a little while. ;)

Anything from Allard?

Scene: Inside the Reaver's asteroid base

Loren awoke with an ache he swore was going to split his skull. Shaking his head to get rid of the grogginess caused rivulets of pain shoot all across his temples. *Mistake* he thought.

Slowly his vision cleared to reveal the four walls of what appeared to be a holding cell. The walls themselves were bare as was the floor and ceiling. Loren unsteadily clambered to his feet and began surveying his new surroundings. He was halfway through running his fingers over one of the walls searching for a means of egress when he stopped.

Grabbing his temples he began to concentrate, *What in the devil are all these clicks and whistles I'm hearing?* The unintelligible clicks began to dissolve into emotions as Loren concentrated harder... emotions he could immediately recognize.

*The Federation...technology...an attack...a trap carefully laid...and the FEYNMAN* The thoughts came rapidly and easily to Loren, so easily that he put up a mental block because he began to lose himself to the thoughts.

Loren's head began to pound again and his legs simply gave way. He curled himself into a ball on the floor and began to meditate to force away the pain and formulate a plan.

Respectfully submitted,

"Um, Lieutenant - It's time." Ens. Dunnon poked his head into the CEO's quarters, but didn't dare enter. The security vest he wore was awkward and cutting into his neck.

Tarrant allowed his eyes to slowly open. Letting his mind, body, and soul awake from it's almost trance-like state. He unwrapped the Katana before him, and promptly sheathed it in an apparatus behind his back. Then went about putting on the blast vest.

Dunnon watched the scene with amusement. Tarrant was tough in Engineering, but reasonable. Always busy working on something - involved. It was as if he now transfered all that energy into himself. Every movement was a fluid arc, every step, every motion. Dunnon almost missed the question when his superior spoke.

"Have you completed the modifications on the rifles?"

"Yes sir, the modified tricorders are attached exactly like the prototype you gave me. They're in Transporter Room 2, " replied the Terran.

Tarrant nodded.

The walk to the transporter room was a quiet one. The few crew who were in the corridors during the yellow alert status stepped back to give room as the two made their way. For Dunnon, the silence and stares were almost unbearable and strangely surreal.

They walked in to find they were the last to arrive.

"Glad to see you two finally showed up." said Allard with a bit of a grin. "Thought I might have had to command this task force all by myself."

Lt. Koreth grabbed one of the rifles, "And let you play with my new toys unsupervised? I don't think so 'junior'."

<NRPG: Not sure If Meleah is in.. so I'll leave that open>

The partial klingon only had a few years on Allard, but the tactical officer's young face made him appear much less aged.

Tarrant liked Allard ever since he had come on board. Sure, the then ensign was green.. but there was something in his eyes... And as he looked into that young face now, both forcing relaxed grins, Tarrant could tell that they both knew the possibilities of what was to come.

"Sirs, " interrupted the transporter chief, "the Issahi attack has begun."

Allard turned to the team, "Ok, everone up. Circle formation, weapons out. If you perseive something as a threat do not hesitate to protect yourselves." He knew that the speech wasn't necessary, but gave it anyway.

One by one they took up position. Koreth and Allard facing exact opposite each other.

"Try to find a place free from as much activity as you can for the transport. But, if you can look on to any familiar Federation signatures in that time.. then send us there." said Tarrant to the transporter chief.

Time passed. Yet when the word came, it was remembered as but a fleeting second.

<Bridge to transporter room,> It was Cmdr Maril <Beam down the landing party, and may Kazanti quench the flames of Azule.>

Shimmering blue light engulfed them, then faded as fast as it came on.

The passageway was barely lit. Honeycomb type patterns seemd to make up the walls and floor. Two rows, one about 1/2 a meter up and another about the same distance from the ceiling, emitted a dull yellowish light from between the lines. The 'floor' seemed grippy, like rubber or as if a light adhesive had been applied. The corridor itself extended in two directions. No doors in the conventional sense were visible. Nor was the enemy.

Tarrant held up his rifle to look at the tricorder attached to it. "Picking up multiple energy readings all over, and multiple unknown lifeforms... 400 meters this direction. "

"Are any Federation signatures?" asked Allard, not turning from his position.

"No. I guess they weren't able to pick up a signature before beam-in."

"There dosen't appear to be any interfaces here." said Dunnon as he looked at around. He slowly reached out and touched the wall. "It feels like the floor... WHOA!" he pulled his hand back as if bitten.

"What is it Ensign?"

"It.. 'changed' . When I pushed on it, I could feel it changing. Kinda strengthening under the force."

"Make a scan of it Dunnon, but do it quick. " announced Tarrant in a final type voice, "We have a mission."

"Which way, Koreth" said Allard. HE obviously didn't like the idea of staying in a hallway all day.

"I'm reading power fluxuations and some light firepower in your direction. Probably where the Issahi have started the ground attack."

Allard nodded, "Which means that the Shuttle pod would probably be in a more secure section." It sounded good, but they knew that either way they were just shooting in the dark. Splitting up would have been the quickest way, but in this type of combat situation there was required safety in numbers. "Then we head that way."

The corridor continued, which lead to a few intersections. Each time they chose the direction closest to the strange power signatures. Again no doorways seemed evident, but Tarrant saw on the tricorder evidence that pockets of space existed behind them.

Allard kept track of the bio-readings... which started bothering him quite a bit. "Hold up here."

"What is it?"

"Something strange is going on. " said the SEC officer who continued to explain, "Three times now I've picked up bio readings, of at least 6 separate creatures in each group, and each time we've gotten within 50 meters they suddenly veer off... away from our location."

"Avoiding confrontation on your own base during a raid? Some thing is not right." announced Koreth.

Ok, here we go. Wanted to allow some play off of the trap part set by our new officer in his last post so.....

BTW: PLEASE! Don't send Krysa in with a shuttle craft to save us. All we need is two downed shuttles to search for. (Sorry, couldn't resist... everyone else gets to have fun)

USS FEYNMAN: The Ship!

by Kevin Thigpen 11-30-1996

Stardate: 81129.1300
MD: 7.0950
Scene: Holding Cell on Reaver's Base

It didn't take long for Loren to achieve the proper mind state to block the pain he was feeling. Sitting up he remembered that his body was still damaged but his mind was no longer registering the pain. He couldn't keep it that way for long, but maybe long enough to escape.

Running his hands once again over the seemingly featureless walls he could feel them getting stronger in response to his applied force. On top of that the floor seemed like it was gripping his feet. *This is useless* he thought angrily as he kicked the wall he faced.

What happened next totally surprised him. His foot went through the wall along with his leg and then the rest of his body. Jumping to his feet on the other side Loren glanced around quickly to confirm what his Betazoid senses had already told him...he was alone. Looking back at the wall he tried to tentatively put his hand back through the wall but it was just as hard as ever.

He then envisioned himself fighting someone, beating them, and put his hand back up to the wall. It passed right through as if the wall were made of water. Loren drew upon other emotions as he repeated the test. *Amazing, certain emotions namely anger, allowed one to pass through the walls or doors or whatever they are here* Loren realized.

With his newfound knowledge Loren made his way towards an open corridor with the one intention of finding a way out.

After making it a few meters down the corridor, Loren stopped. *Bad guys ahead*. He eased himself into their thoughts for a brief moment and drew his mind back abruptly. He couldn't see them around the corner but he sensed six of them and they were anxious. Once again Loren made out the ideas of a trap but it wasn't directed at anything or anyone nearby. The idea seemed to concern something bigger and farther away.

Then it hit him. The FEYNMAN was headed for a trap. The thoughts came fast and furious. *The base was expendable...first lead the Isaahi fleet into the asteroid field, destroy them while the FEYNMAN attempts to leave the area. While the Isaahi are occupied with the base, an ambush of a large number of our ships will capture the FEYNMAN...They're going to try to capture the ship. No time for this, I gotta go*

Loren spun around to come face to face with hooded creature about 2 meters tall shuffling even closer to him. *Damn, too preoccupied to sense this one coming up on me* The thing reached out to grab Loren who grabbed the thing's left appendage, twisted it to the right, and using the momentum generated threw the thing to the floor.

Bounding over the fallen creature, Loren ran for all he was worth.

USS FEYNMAN: Throwing A Baseball

by Max Felsher 11-30-1996

SCENE: Bridge

Maril monitored the battle closely, watching for any strange occurrences. Nothing so far.

Unfortunately, the Issahi were losing despite their superior numbers. The Reavers were taking advantage of their better firepower and the Issahi lack of maneuverability. A good quarter of the Issahi attack fleet had been destroyed, as opposed to less than an eighth of the Reavers.

But, then, as it looked like the Reavers would force the Issahi back, different Issahi ships started to enter the battle. These were about the same length and thickness as the others, but much wider. And when the Reavers fired their weapons, it took about twelve high-power shots to bring these strange ships' shields down even 25%.

Suddenly, it hit Maril as suddenly as the lightning hit Regampha. He recalled the data from Lt. Meleah's experiments with the dilithium sword. The energy readouts were very similar. So it was dilithium the Issahi were using!

"The attack of the valmbirds at Cidema," he whispered under his breath.

He looked up to see what was happening around the Bridge. Seemingly, all was quiet. Very few Reavers had attacked since the Feynman had beamed down the away team. Perhaps they were too focused on the Issahi attack.

"Reaver ship at bearing 212, mark 308," Jerran reported calmly. Maril had thought too soon.

"Red alert," Maril ordered quickly.

"Hold your fire, Tactical," Zane said slowly. "Let them fire first. Mr. Jerran, bring us about to face the Reaver ship, but keep us within communications range of the away team."

"Aye, sir, but two more ships have just appeared at bearings 257, mark 7 and 104, mark 76."

"All three ships are firing weapons, sir," the tactical officer reported with some worry.

The ship rocked violently, almost throwing Maril out of his chair. "Damage report," he said sternly as he attempted to regain his bearings.

"Shields down to 37%. Damage to decks 14-16 of the Engineering section."

"Get some repair teams down there," Maril ordered.

"You may open fire, Tactical," the Captain gave the command.

"Aye, sir."

The ship shuddered again. "Report."

"The ship in front of us has been destroyed. Our shields went down for 4 seconds, but they are now back up to 10%. Damage to the starboard nacelle pylon."

"Continue firing," Zane ordered.

Jenn suddenly spoke up. "Sir, somehow a small probe got close to us when our shields were down for 4 seconds. It is creating a magnetic field." Then she held her breath for a second. "Sir, the probe's magnetic field is disrupting our anti-matter containment field. If our containment field fails-"

"We won't be here to fight the Reavers at all," Zane finished the sentence.

"The Jacolian tunnelers attacking from below," Maril whispered.

Zane shivered for a second, but quickly gained control. "Can we destroy it?"

"Not by conventional means," Jenn answered. "The probe is much too close to the ship. An explosion would cause a major hull breach."

"Can we get a tractor beam on it?" Maril asked, worried.

"Possibly. The probe is very small. We may grab a lot of empty space instead of the probe."

"I think that's a chance we have to take," Zane said, seemingly calm. "Tactical, get a tractor beam lock on it. When you have it, swing the tractor beam outwards and let go at the end of the arc."

"Aye, sir, I have a lock on it, engaging tractor beam, missed it," the tactical officer reported. "Got another lock, engaging tractor beam, got it this time. Swinging the tractor beam to the port, disengaging tractor beam...now! The probe is continuing on its path outwards."

"Good job, everyone," Zane said with some relief. "Are there any Reaver ships still attacking us?"

"One, sir. The other one has gone to the main battle."

"Status of shields?" Maril asked.

"They're up to 24%. The Reaver ship is firing again."

"Return fire!" Zane ordered as the ship shook.
