Background Summary
Targen’s parents were devoted to scientific pursuits, particularly studying the common ancestry
of humanoid life throughout the known galaxy. They believed there was a clear defining
principle guiding the development of humanoid life that extended beyond the findings by Star
Fleet as it related to the Galen-Picard Theory of Humanoid Development. While that theory
postulated the existence of a race of superior beings that seeded humanoid life across the
galaxy, Targen’s parents were obsessed with finding the order with which that life was seeded
so that they could calculate the galactic point of entry for that race of beings and potentially the
reverse calculate the galaxy of origins for that species.
To that end, Targen’s parents received funding from the Vulcan Science Academy and Star Fleet
and set out on a Raven Class vessel, the USS BLUEJAY, to conduct their scientific inquiries in the
far reaches of the Alpha quadrant.
During an exploration in an uninhabited system, the BLUEJAY was attacked and critically
damaged by pirates, using the system as a temporary staging ground for attacks on a nearby
shipping lane. The BLUEJAY was forced to crash land on a nearby Class L planet, while the
pirates fled, fearing immediate reprisals from Star Fleet.
Altair and Targen managed to survive on the barely habitable world for 6 months before a
rescue vessel arrived. Details of how they survived is missing from any known records of their
experience and during counseling sessions, Targen has offered little to no information about
the topic.
Targen’s time at the Academy passed uneventfully and he upon graduation he chose to stay
planetside and continue to work with the engineering division on the planet. He keeps in
regular touch with his brother, Altair who serves as a Ranger Warden on the tree planet and
Federation Nature Preserve, Tau Ceti Prime, where their family’s tree farm exists.
Only recently has he made a request to serve on a starship.
