==[ORIGINS] USS HOOD: Lifting off Now!==

Scene: Spaceport, New Detroit.
Chief Brannon checked the chronometer by his right hand.  So far, on average, his eyes had darted down there every seven seconds or so.  That was when they weren’t busy scanning the roof top or the sky.  He had this thing about being able to see what was about to kill him.  The fact that they were still alive was more then surprising as was the fact that they had been on the roof barely 3 and a half minutes before the teams had started to arrive.  He knew intellectually that three and half minutes was a fairly reasonable time for this type of operation.  Emotionally it had been just about forever since they had landed.
Deciding he wasn’t going to look down at the chronometer again he turned in his seat to look at the empty shuttle compartment behind him.  As lead pilot it was his job to fly the captain out.  But like some bad holovid, while everyone else seemed to have made it back to the shuttle, including what looked to be a very bewildered Romulan, the captain was no where to be seen.  And of course if the captain wasn’t there why would the exec or the doctor be?
He reverently hoped that they were all still breathing.  But chances were they weren’t and someone had to make the call soon or there would be more casualties.  A lot more.  Turning back to face forward he could see Commander Gar crouching down over near the roof access.  His phaser ready while he continuously scanned the area.  Finally he reached for his communicator and began to flip open.  Brannon didn’t know if he was more upset about leaving them behind or happy that they were about to get the order to bug out.  Just a few more seconds he pleaded.
Suddenly Gar dropped the communicator and raised his rifle.  Brannon groaned at the sight.  The Romulans were about to burst through the doorway.  Without thinking he pushed the button to close the hatch.  The second the Romulans dropped the engineer he was going to push the throttle and wait for DeSimms to order them to leave.  Surely he would make the call.
But then Gar lowered his rifle and turned to run towards the shuttle with the captain and the others behind him.  “Holy frak we might just live!”  He exclaimed to the empty shuttle compartment.  Five seconds later they were clambering aboard as the shuttle doors were still sliding apart.and Brannon spoke into his mic.  “HOOD we’ve got them!  All shuttles, lifting off now!
