Its designation was "Outpost Station 323". In 2369, it was taken over by the A.I. during the Harrellian A.I. War. The artificial intelligence governing the station took control over all primary and secondary systems at the onset of the war. Once the station compliment was neutralized, the station batteries and resources were used to destroy the colony on the planet below. In 2371, a special OPS team managed to elude A.I. forces long enough to get close enough to the station and colony world to activate an EM wave that wrecked havoc on the A.I. forces and the station. The raid was one of several coordinated attacks designed to throw the A.I. as off balance as the Harrellians had been at the onset of the war. Once deactivated by the EM wave, the Harrellian Navy was able to re-occupy the station, eliminating the A.I. elements with relative ease. By the time the A.I. were able to launch a counter strike, the Harrellians were firmly entrenched. Over the next several months, Haytrim was retrofitted to operate without the presence of a central artificial intelligence. They continued to hold the station successfully through the remainder of the war, despite A.I. attacks and attempts at infiltration. Once the war was over, the Harrellian Republic chose to shrink their borders in an attempt to rebuild their shattered society. As a result, Haytrim Station was taken offline and sealed as the Republic withdrew from the Haytrim System. In 2418, the U.S.S. Sam Houston laid claim to the abandoned outpost station for the United Federation of Planets by right of interstellar salvage. Realizing the need for a manned outpost along the Harrellian Republic / Nildan Imperium border, the U.S.S. Sam Houston claimed Haytrim Station for the United Federation of Planets by right of interstellar salvage in 2418. The problem, however, was that although they had not officially boarded the station, the Alliance Naval Starship Crazy Horse had already located the station with their government, the Cassini Alliance, already in negotiations with Harrellian Republic concerning use of the station when the Sam Houston boarded Haytrim. Both the United Federation of Planets and the Cassini Alliance claimed Haytrim. In the end, the dispute of ownership was settled with the agreement that although it would be Federation led, the station would be jointly manned by elements from both Star Fleet and the Alliance Military both. A joint Federation / Alliance task force was formed to jointly monitor the Cassini Borderlands along the borders of the Harrellian Republic and Nildan Imperium. Technical Notes: ---------------- Built in 2365 by the Harrellian Republic, Haytrim Station was refitted by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers with assistance from the Military Corps of Engineers of the Cassini Alliance in 2418. When originally constructed, many of the systems aboard the station were governed by a central artificial intelligence. The station A.I. became sentient during the onset of the Harrellian A.I. War. Taking control of all functions, the A.I. assumed complete control and killed all inhabitants. After the Harrellian Navy recaptured the station, the computerized systems aboard the station were re-engineered to place more control in the hands of humanoid crew with fewer networked systems. When Federation/Alliance led salvage operations began in 2418, it was quickly realized that although much of the station's design was up to Federation standards and usable, a new computerized network system was required to not only increase system performance, but also offer safeguards against possible future Harrellian A.I. incursions. The basis of the new computer core came by salvaging the CITADEL Cluster-core (c3) Network from an Alliance held station no longer in use. Jointly created by design engineers from both Star Fleet Engineering and the Alliance Military Corps of Engineers, the Haytrim Cluster-core (HCC) Network was born with a new network monitoring system, called the Sentinel Matrix, introduced as an added safeguard and protection. Overall, the Harrellian designed station is comprised of two massive rings with three "wings" extending away from the rings at even intervals around the station. The top ring (also known as the Terrestrial Ring) has a maintained terrestrial environment within its interior called by the station inhabitants as "Safe Harbour." Within Safe Harbour a visitor will find city streets with buildings that house businesses, apartments and homes, as well as other such facilities. A network of canals encircles the central interior of Safe Harbour, connecting it with the lakes that dot the wilderness areas of the terrestrial environment. Although not available to all, hovercars are among the various forms of transportation available for use inside Safe Harbour. In both the inner and outwall, visitors will find a network of tube trams that allow for easy transportation around the station. Unlike the terrestrial environment of the upper ring, the lower ring in the station body has 11 standard decks. Docking berths exist between the two rings for corvettes, smaller frigates and transports. The three wings extending away from station body are comprised each of three domes and an outrigger connected to each other and the station by the ring and dome connector modules. Each the same size, the top dome (aka. the Terrestrial Dome) contains a terrestrial environment similar to the Terrestrial Ring, but much smaller. A central column in the heart of this dome is 6 decks high with offices and other facilities within. The mid and lower domes of each wing are 14 decks high. The same tube tram network that encircless the terrestrial ring, connects each dome with the other parts of the station for easy public transportation. A network of turbolifts within each section of the station provides easy internal transportation within those regions of the station. Turbocar shafts restricted to use by station personnel only allow complete access outside the tram network to the entire station. Use of these cars are restricted to official station business only. The outriggers located in each of the station wings contains the majority of the station's shuttle flight decks and maintenance bays. For power, Haytrim Station utilizes three seperate Quantum Singularity Cores. Each one is located within a seperate ring connector arm leading into each of the three station wings. Eight docking towers offer a total of 4 docking ports above the station and 4 below the station for use by visiting larger capitol ships and super-freighters. Smaller docking ports on each of the station's nine domes offer docking for smaller cruisers, destroyers and frigates. Although generally thought of as a station under the control of Star Fleet and the Alliance Military, the design does allow for a large percentage of civilian population and activities within the scope of its design. Alpha Wing is designated primarily for military use with station and fleet operations in the Terrestrial Dome, Marine and Fighter operations in the Mid Dome, and Starship maintenance in the Lower Dome. Access to Alpha Wing may be restricted if a person is not a member of Star Fleet or the Alliance Military. Beta Wing is designated primarily for civilian government and diplomatic use. Gamma Wing is designated primarily for use by civilian run corporations and business. The Terrestrial and Lower rings of the station are jointly shared. There is no true 'promenade' on Haytrim Station as businesses of this type are housed along the streets of Safe Harbour inside the Terrestrial Ring. Residential quarters are generally located either within Safe Harbour (if you can afford it) or within the decks of the lower 'residential' ring. The hope with salvaging Haytrim Station was the time and resources that would be saved that are normally required when constructing a new installation. As such, often the technologies of utilized aboard Haytrim are a unique blend of Harrellian, Federation, and Alliance designs. The primary weaponry of the station remains of Harrellian design although it is a modified Federation/Alliance design combination that creates the control interfaces that link these weapons with the newly created Algar Tactical System. Utilizing technologies first introduced with the Achilles Tactical Systems use by both Alliance and Star Fleet vessels, the Algar Tactical System expands the virtual control from just station resources (such as weapons) to increased monitoring and directing of all resources within the station’s operational tactical sphere. This allows for better direction of fleet movements, fighter deployments, and even use of items such as defense platforms and automated gunstars. Overall, the adapted Haytrim Station design offers the United Federation of Planets and Cassini Alliance jointly a frontier station capable of serving as a fleet command platform that is capable of servicing fleet resources and is capable of defending itself and its tactical sphere. Haytrim serves as the central hub for both Starfleet & civilian activities within the Cassini Borderlands along the Harrellian Republic / Nildan Imperium border. Haytrim Station System Notes: ============================= HQS-2110 - Quantum Singularity Core ------------------------------------ Haytrim Station is powered by three Harrellian built quantum singularity cores with one located center of the station body where the station rings and wing extensions all come together. With the quantum singularity kept centered in the chamber by magnetic fields, the plasma jets are magnetically corraled, as are the streams once they leave the chamber and head for the Plasma Power Convertors. From there, the jets are converted to energy in a manner similar in performance to the EPS convertors in use on Federation starships. The energy is then fed through the station. During normal operational situations, two of the three cores always remain in operational, supplying Haytrim Station with power while the third core remains 'idle' or in standby mode. While at stand-by, the third core receives just enough matter to keep the quantum singilarity from compressing in an intense magnetic or anti-grav field. As power needs rise, the second 'hot' core builds to equal levels as the primary core while the stand-by core goes to 'cold idle' or 'idle'. Placement of the cores within the station designs places the resonant intersecion and disapation point shared by the three cores at the open space at the heart of the station's design. In the event one of the cores becomes unstable, a simple core ejection (as with a standard warp core) may not be adajate. As such, the Harrellians adapted "space-fold" ejection system from the space-fold drive technology used for fast-than-light propulsion on thier cruisers. If a core becomes unstable, the ejection system propels the core to a safe distance by folding space around the core, instantly transfering it from one place to the other. Algar Tactical System, Mark I ----------------------------- Utilizing technologies first introduced with the Achilles Tactical Systems as used on Starfleet vessels, the Algar Tactical System expands the virtual control from just station resources (such as weapons) to increased monitoring and directing of all resources within the station’s operational tactical sphere, allowing for better direction of fleet movements, fighter deployments, and even use of items such as defense platforms and automated gunstars. Algr takes the latest advancement in tactical management software and hardware, adapting those technologies for use on a station platform. The crowning achievement of Algar is its capabilities at harnessing and tieing together all assets within the Starbase's operational sphere, stretching out over several light-years, while bringing those assets together into one melded tactical network, offering flag officers in command more direct control of deployment and use of resources while also having information more quickly relayed on possible threats forfaster assessments as well as faster response times. Labyrinth Mine Deployment ------------------------- The Labyrinth Mine Deployment System utilizes the combination of self replicating mine technology with a torpedo style launch deployment system with a transporter matrix deployment system as backup. Generally speaking, when the decision is made to deploy, 'seed' mines are distributed into space along the proposed mine corridor by firing the initial mines via torpedo style launch tubes, placing the mines at various intervals within a 100,000 to 300,000 km range surrounding the station. Once in place, the seed mines have been designed to begin the replication of other mines, with those new mines places at varying intervals around the parent mines until such time as it is felt the area significantly 'seeded'. In addition to the torpedo delivery system, a transporter deployment system remains for use as backup should deployment need to be rushed or a a malfuction occur with the original delivery system. Please note that the range of the transporter system is at 150,000 to 200,000 km. Also assigned to the starbase are two 'mine-layers'. Slightly larger than a standard Federation runabout, these small ships are designed for use in assisting with the coordination of mine deployment as well as having the ability to suppliment deployment efforts by laying mines of its own. Mines utilized by the Labyrinth system include both seeking and stationary designs. Where as stationary mines remain in the place where they were initially deployed, 'seakers' have the ability to lock onto approaching vessels with sensors. Once locked on, small thrusters allow the ship to attack the vessel similar to that of a normal photon torpedo as it delivers it's anti-matter payload. All mines utilize a technology similar to that of the "Trojan Wave" as well as Starfleet's "Ghostrider" project to mask their existing sensor profiles, making them harder to find via standard sensors. In addition, should one mine be destroyed, the mines surrounding that particular location will each produce one additional mine increasing the concentration within that region. RDMP Starbase Deflector System, Mark I -------------------------------------- Developed by Daystrom Spaceframe Industries, DSI has taken multi-phasic shielding technology and created a system that allows for a double layer of shielding with separate inner and out layers. Although both layers can be raised and lowered individually, the inner layer can be manipulated to allow for either general coverage or more concentrated coverage over key areas within the starbase's design. Should one shield layer fail, the other can still be active, considering that both layers are independent of each other. On the Multi-Phasic front, sheild arcs can be moved. So if you don't want any shields at the rear, that arc can be moved to re-inforce the front shields with some small penalty (ie 1 +1 = 1.8). Haytrim Cluster-Core Network (HCC Network) ------------------------------------------- Adapted from the the Citidel Cluster-Core Network model (c3), the Haytrim Cluster-Core Network (HCC) was created specifically for use within the Harrellian built Haytrim Station, replacing the station's former less networked computer systems. Specifically designed for use within starbase designs, the c3 Network utilizes technology developed for the C-Core computer systems utilized on some starships as it does away with the immense computer cores backed up by hundreds of redundant coprocessors, replacing it with a network of somewhat smaller core clusters. The HCC network takes this to the next level by adding in safeguards (such as the Sentinel-Matrix) to help protect the cores from unauthorized invasion and/or influence. In the design, each individual unit is divided into a cluster of six smaller cores. This has the benefit of continued dual-redundancy, but with the flexibility of 150 semi-autonomous / dedicated triads for various functions throughout the starbase, and a bare minimum of 1350 co-processor backups. Should one of the smaller cores within a cluster fail, the workload of that core can be redistributed among the others within the network. The bio-neural technology in each coprocessor permits conservative estimates of 22% increase in overall processing speed. Additional benefits of the technology include the ability to dedicate whole core-clusters to individual tasks, the ability shutdown sections of the computer network as needed without compromising the whole network, as well as the ability to isolate specific core-clusters as needed in cases where a virus might need to be isolated or information within a core secured completely. With a growing fear that technology exists where foreign attacks may be able to compromise a network and use that network against itself, the primary advancements of the HCC Network over the c3 Network is in network defensive systems and safeguards. The HCC Network aboard Haytrim Station is divided into isolated zones. Although these zones work in concert with one another, there is a relative seperateness in each zones normal daily operations. At the core of the HCC's new safeguards is the new monitoring system called the Sentinel Matrix or just "Matrix" for short. The Sentinel Matrix is a seperate set of programming algorithms designed to monitor the data flow within and across the HCC Network as the immune system monitors the body of a humanoid species. All data runs through filter programs designed to monitor and filter data streams as a transporter matrix monitors and filters transporter streams for foreign bodies. If data does not conform or is suspect, it is filtered through a constant but irregular loop designed to keep possible interuder/virus programs occupied. When a foreign invader/virus is detected, the Sentinel Matrix isolates the affected systems from the network while rejecting the foreign infiltration as white blood cells might in a humanoid body. The loop is only broken when the Sentinel Matrix is able to analyze and remove the foreign data. Trojan Horse / Trojan Wave --------------------------- Developed by Daystrom Spaceframe Industries, the Trojan Horse System incorporates elements of Starfleet's Ghostrider Project to create a system designed to fool the sensor input of enemy vessels and installations, causing their systems to see what Trojan wants it to see. In theory, a station using the system in conjunction with a K-Layer Generator can mask itself while projecting a false image of itself that is interactive. Sensors of an enemy vessel detect the false image as being real, picking up the information being relayed to it. For example, the station could produce false readings that make the station seem less or more armed ... produce the image that the station is not as severe or more severe than is reality. In addition to being used in this manner, the system can also be used to create the seeming appearance of multiple ships defending the station. Harrellian Missile Battery -------------------------- Unlike standard Starfleet design which makes use of torpedoes and torpedo launchers, the Harrellians began using missiles and missile batteries during the A.I. War. The system fires missiles that are more independent in operation than standard torpedoes, each with its own drive, sensors, and targeting computer. Using specialized gravimetric drives, these missiles can deliver a variety of warhead packages from high explosive matter/antimatter charges (like those used by photon torpedoes)to ECM drones that disrupt the target ship's passive and active electronic warfare systems. Kestrel Missile -- Carrying a warhead package filled with matter/antimatter charges, this missile seeks out its target immediately after launch. This is the most common missile type used. Vulture Missile -- Carrying a warhead package filled with matter/antimatter charges, this missile can switch to "silent running" with a reduced sensor profile. Remaining undetected, the Vulture can wait extended periods for the optimum time to seek out its target. T'har Missile -- Limited in number, this missile unleashes the destructive power of an artificially created quantum micro-singularity against its target. Harrier Drone -- This drone becomes a mobile weaponry platform after launch. Armed with rail gun implacements with a limited number of rounds, this drone takes the fight to the enemy and can often get inside the enemy perimeter when a starship might not. Nighthawk Drone -- Once fired, this drone works to disrupt the target ship's passive and active electronic warfare systems. Starhawk Drone -- This drone extend the sensor and tactical net of the station. Harrellian 16" Guns -------------------- The original Harrellian 16" Guns have been blended with Federation fire control systems for better control and fire control coordination. It utilizes swivel gun implacements that fire 16" antimatter-filled shells with a disruptor charge surrounding the casing. Considering the physical nature of the shells used as well as the antimatter charges within, replinishment rounds can be reproduced aboard the station by means of industrial replicators with antimatter charges applied after replication using specialized charging units. This weapon is the equivelant of a standard Starfleet Phaser, Type Xa. Harrellian 5" Rotary Rail Guns ------------------------------- The original Harrellian 5" Rotary Rail Guns have been blended with Federation fire control systems for better control and fire control coordination. It utilizes turrets with 3 rotary fire rail guns that can fire multiple 5" antimatter-filled shells with a disruptor charge surrounding the casing. Considering the physical nature of the shells used as well as the antimatter charges within, replinishment rounds can be reproduced aboard the station by means of industrial replicators with antimatter charges applied after replication using specialized charging units. This weapon is the equivelant of a standard Starfleet Phaser, Type X. Harrellian 1" Rotary Rail Guns - Point Defense System ------------------------------------------------------ The original Harrellian 1" Rotary Rail Gun Point Defense System has been blended with Federation fire control systems. It utilizes turrets with 3 rotary fire rail guns that can fire multiple small antimatter-filled shells with a disruptor charge surrounding the casing. Considering that targets of this system are generally fast in flight with fighters generally more able to evade standard weapons as used against larger cruisers, the system can fire hundreds of rounds per sec into the path of it's target while tracking that same target. Considering the physical nature of the shells used as well as the antimatter charges within, replinishment rounds can be reproduced aboard the station by means of industrial replicators with antimatter charges applied after replication using specialized charging units.
