“Captain’s log supplemental. All indications are that the final alien has left both Commander Gar and Crewman Lowl and we are ready to leave this planet. I take full responsibility for the failure of this mission. Not only were we unsuccessful at rescuing the archeological team I have failed to take the necessary steps to protect the members of the Landing Party. The fact that all members of the archeological team had been seized and then killed by the aliens inhabiting this pyramid before HOOD arrived in no way diminishes the sense of loss and frustration I feel. All that remain of the landing party are myself Commanders Merrick and Gar, Lieutenant DeSimms and Crewman Lowl. At this point the only goal is survival. The plan is to return to the ship but up until now we could not guarantee that we could do so without transporting the aliens with us. Fortunately Lieutenant Hemux and her teams have come up with a solution. I can’t say any of us here on the planet are excited about transporting out a microsecond before we are engulfed by nuclear devastation. But there is no other way and time is running out. If we do not make it I hope my death will offer some small comfort to the souls that were left behind. End log.” | |||
Jack looked around at the team. “Ready?” No one answered aloud but Jack looked into each man’s eyes. “Let’s get the hell out of here.” He flipped open his communicator and paused to take one last look around. “Steele to HOOD.” | |||
[HOOD here.] Commander Compass’ nervous voice replied. | |||
“Its all up to you.” | |||
[We’re ready captain.] Hemux’s calm voice cut in. [Counting down now. 10, 9, 8…] | |||
Steele flipped the communicator closed. “Good luck gentlemen.” | |||
