USS FEYNMAN: Searching
by Melanie Pocknall 9-1-1996
SD: 80901
MD: 7.1340 (possibly)
SCENE: Feynman Bridge
Meleah stepped out of the turbolift and saw Tarrant working at the engineering station. She assumed that he was trying to find Maril but the thing that puzzled Meleah was that what ship Maril was in. No-one had gotten around to informing her about the various things that had been happening while she was on the surface. Rather than bother Tarrant, who she presumed had only just been informed himself, she went over to Chief T'Kal who was running scans through the computer. Being half Vulcan, she knew that he would give a precise account of what had happened in a shorter time than most of the officers on board.
A couple of minutes later, being more informed than she had been when she had come onto the bridge, she was able to take her place at the second science station and scan for the cloaked BoP. Not an easy job under normal circumstances, it was even harder because of all the interference. Considering how long ago the Bat'leth was sent to look for them, coming back may take a long time. Either that, or they had run into trouble.
Just then, a piece of debris floated past the viewscreen. Straight away, Meleah focused scanners on it, just as Tarrant ordered the tactical officer to do so. After a couple of minutes, Meleah was able to make a judgement. "The debris appears to be from a small vessel, possibly a runabout. It is hard to tell but there is radiation emanating from it which may have been caused by disrupters. The disrupters were...." She paused to look at her readings. "Of Klingon origin."
"So we know that Cmdr Maril was down there somewhere. But where is he now?"
"That is impossible to calculate, Lt, especially as...." Meleah's voice trailed off as she realized what he meant. "Oh. It was a rhetorical question. In that case, I will attempt to find out."
Tarrant shook his head slightly, and turned back to his work.
Half an hour went by in relative silence. No trace of the BoP was found. Even if Maril hadn't engaged the cloak, it would still be difficult to sense the ship before it showed on the viewscreen. Then, almost as if Meleah had willed it, the Bat'leth decloaked.
"Incoming message from the Bird of Prey," announced PO Williams.
"On screen," said Tarrant, coming down to stand in front of the screen.
Maril's face appeared. "It seems that Lenart has come to the mountain after all."
Off-screen, Meleah face showed a puzzled expression until she figured out what he meant. Tamarian metaphors were harder to understand than human speech.
NRPG:
Well, it's a strange ending but at least we've found the BoP. Shall we get going?
BTW, I apologize for mucking up the mission dates. Sometimes they can be very hard to keep track of <G>.
Sincerely yours,
Lt. Meleah, CSciO, USS FEYNMAN.
Melanie.

Zane stood quietly in the 'lift pondering all that had happened in the past few hours, the arrival of Dee, the revelations she had confronted him with, the possibilities that could have been.... He had made the right decision, he knew that. But why did he feel the fool?
Krysa was coming along fine. He had stayed in sickbay as Glin'kharr had examined the ring and discovered its workings. In esscence it was really just a simple device and the doctor quickly developed a regime of mental training and pharmacuticals that Krysa could take so she would not be susceptible to any further 'attacks' no matter what Dee had promised. Zane was quite embarrassed with the solution Dee had provided. It seemed so obvious now that he cursed himself for making the deal so quickly. But he couldn't risk his second officer and needed her on the bridge. And, he reluctantly told himself, he couldn't allow his innermost thoughts to be relieved. He would have to keep Dee and Krysa apart until she was released on EPSILON. Krysa could never know.
"Report." He ordered as he entered the bridge. Lt. Koreth looked up from the engineering station and turned to face the captain.
"We are proceeding to the edge of the sack at 1/2 impulse eta 18:00. TYPHOON and the Bat'leth are in formation. The link to the Husnock ship has given us no problems. It is 1000m aft and under its own power."
Zane nodded. "Good. How are a the logs?"
Tarrant almost smiled, a sure sign of his excitement. "We continue to download but are quickly running out of space. The information I have examined so far is....fascinating. Captain we can't let this ship be taken by the GREY's. The information is too valuable."
"We'll do our best."
"Yes sir." The CEO replied.
"Signal TYPHOON and Bat'leth and let the officers on board FEYNMAN know that we'll have a brief meeting once we reach the perimeter. You have the bridge I'll be in my ready-room."
"Aye sir."
<<<NRPG>>>
Just a short one to keep the ball rolling. Feel free to start the meeting...Zane's idea is to have the TYPHOON pretend to still be in the hands of the GREY Fleet and exit the sack towing the FEYNMAN while the Bat'leth remains cloaked and the Husnock takes a 'wider' remote course to EPSILON. Obviously we won't be able to fool Tremaine for long but it might get us a good distance. Of course have your characters put forth their own suggestions as mine is not necessarily the one we'll use.
One problem....TYPHOON still has 200 odd prisoners aboard and we can't really just let them be killed so what do we do with them if it seems TYPHOON may be destroyed? FEYNMAN and Bat'leth can take some but not all.
Mike: Don't know how bad J.C. is so I didn't mention it either way...its up to you if your in sickbay for an extended visit or a quick fix.
Respectfully,
Andy

Tarrant had been pouring over the Husnock logs as they came in. A majority of the information was that of star charts, but every once in a while some engineering marvel would come across and would send the CEO's mind whirling.
He already had some new ideas for upgrading the Feynman's power supply. Of course it would have to be passed by Starfleet command but it couldn't hurt to 'experiment'.
"Sir... SIR!" The AOPS was looking at him
Tarrant turned around from his station from which he had been glued. They were approaching the perimeter.
"Scan through to the outside, are there any ships out there?"
"Scanning..."
Tarrant tapped his comm badge. "Tarrant to Zane... we are approaching the perimeter."

SCENE: SICKBAY
J.C. looked around the sterile and busy sickbay, feeling like he had just slept for a week, but felt a slight pain and warm sensation in his upper-right chest. He moved his hand over the small scar tissue, not yet removed by one of the Doctors. As he tried to set up, one of the duty nurses came over to him.
"Hold on there, Ensign. Lie back down. You're not going anywhere", he stopped J.C. and tried to lower him back down.
"Nurse, I'm fine. I don't need to be wasting space here in sickbay. Where's the CMO? Let me talk to Dr. Glin'Khar. He'll tell you I'm O.K."

Commander Zane had left Sickbay when Glin'kharr had sat down with Krysa to plan a way to keep this from happening again. "You're going to have to work on building up you mental defenses. I'm sure you had them before your accident, it shouldn't be that hard to rebuild them." He told her. "This is a drug which can help."
"Not more drugs.." Krysa moaned. "That's what got me into this."
"That's only part of it. Besides these aren't the same type of drugs."
Krysa's gaze moved to the carbon copy sitting in Glin'kharr's office. "What about her? Is she Betazoid, too?"
"I don't think so. Though I'm sure she's from some telepathic race."
"You're going to give her a new face?"
"That was part of the Captain's bargain to gain her secret."
"I'm glad." Krysa sighed, "I don't like the idea of someone else walking around looking like me."
Dr. Glin'kharr held out the ring in his hand to her. Krysa stared at it a moment, then shook her head. "No, I don't want it back."
"I assure you it's been neutralized. It will never work like that again."
Krysa tentative took it, looking at it briefly. "Thank you, Doctor. Is there anything else you need from me now."
Glin'kharr shook his head, "Not unless you get anymore headaches."
Krysa rolled her eyes. "I promise I will never try to cure a headache with a hot fudge sundae again."
She stood and headed out of Sickbay to prepare for the holo-conference. Having been stuck in Sickbay for so long, she had a lot to catch up on. Stopping at her quarters she gently set the ring in her jewelry box. She knew she wouldn't be able to wear it again, no matter whether it was neutralized or not.
Scene: Holodeck - Holo-conference
MD: 7.1800
Krysa spoke up, "Sir, it seems to me that there is no way to ensure that any of our ships will not be destroyed. We can only try to prevent it. I think our best bet would be to move all unessential personnel to the Husnock ship."
"We don't have full control of that ship, Lt." Zane pointed out.
Krysa nodded, "I know. But we know for a fact that the batlh'etlh, the TYPHOON and the FEYNMAN are most likely to meet the Grey fleet. If we release the Husnock ship sending it straight for EPSILON, while the rest of us distract the Grey fleet, there are other starships that can intercept the Husnock ship and take charge of it's passengers.

Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: Starting the Meeting
by Max Felsher 9-2-1996
SD 80902.2200*
Maril sat in the middle of the Bird of Prey's bridge. It was a comfortable chair, for Klingon Captains liked to dominate their crews from a position of power.
At any rate, Maril sat there as the ship headed for the edge of the Coalsack along with the Feynman, the Typhoon, and the Husnock ship.
After fending off the pirate base's small attack fleet, the BoP had engaged in a search for the officers who had beamed onto the planetoid, as well as Lee, Allard, and his security officer. However, the damage done in the battle hampered the effort and Maril had finally decided to head back to space so that repairs could be made.
Luckily, all of the systems had been repaired, and the new aft phaser bank and the power conduits leading to it had been strengthened. Unfortunately, they had to shut down all power to the bank when cloaked, or there would be a detectable irregularity in the cloak.
They had finally located the Feynman, and all had started towards the edge quickly, ready to convene there at 1800 hours.
MD 7.1800
Dining Hall
Maril activated the holo-emitters which allowed him to see the rest of the senior crew as well as allowing them to see him.
Holographic projections appeared before his eyes slowly and rather out of focus. Obviously, the 'Sack was interfering with the signal.
"Very well. Now that all of us are connected, if badly, we need some ideas," Zane started.
"I was thinking, sir, that the balth 'etlh could head out, cloaked, to scout the area. It would give us something of an advantage. I'd also like to observe that the Bird of Prey is probably the most powerful of our ships, excluding the Husnock ship, and also the most expendable."
"That may be true. However, in this case, we can't let it look like they're the heroes. This needs to look as natural as possible and we can not fire first."
"Perhaps the Typhoon can pretend to still be affiliated with Grey Fleet. It may give us some added time," Jerran suggested. "I've made a self-destruct bomb which we can use if they try to retake it."
"What about the prisoners?" Lt. Jenn asked.
"We may have to move some or all of the prisoners to the Feynman and batlh 'etlh," Zane observed.
"I'd like to point out, Captain, that the batlh 'etlh is just as likely to be destroyed in the battle as the Typhoon."
"Any more suggestions?" Zane asked.
The sun has met the sea,
' Lt. Commander Onta Maril,
First Officer, USS Feynman,
aka Max Felsher
NRPG: Just starting the meeting. My ideas are basically that the BoP scout the area, cloaked, then report back. It would then just follow the other ships, still cloaked, unless the Grey Fleet attacks. Remember that we don't want it to look like the Grey Fleet is the hero.
By remarkable coincidence, the channel which reruns TNG is having a "marathon" of Klingon episodes, including "A Matter of Honor"(the one where Riker gets transferred to a Klingon ship). So, I had a chance to actually see the ship as I was writing this. :)

LT Jerran Terel sat in the chair behind the desk in his ready room. Just the thought of the phrase "his ready room" was somewhat intriguing to Jerran, even though one of his first command decisions as the TYPHOON's brevet prize Captain had resulted in the destruction of another Storm class cruiser with a crew of over five hundred. Even though it was an emotionally traumatic event, his Vulcan side had not allowed him to dwell on it too long, forcing him to get immedietely back into duty. But, his Bajoran side would make it so that he would never forget what happened.
It was now approaching the time for the holonet meeting CMDR Zane had ordered, so Jerran reached over and flipped the switch on the projector on his desk, causing the other senior officers to appear in the room. The connection was bad, so that the crew seemed to flicker like a bad reading on the viewscreen.

"Captain," Jerran said. "As for the crewmen of the TYPHOON, I would suggest that those we cannot get to the FEYNMAN we place them in the TYPHOON's lifeboats before we leave the 'Sack and eject them just prior to blowing the TYPHOON's reactor." He then smiled, glancing quickly at the surrounding ready room saying, "Hopefully, though, it won't come to that. I'm sure ADM Nicholas would rather see the TYPHOON back at EPSILON in one piece, and I plan on doing everything I can to get her there that way."
Zane smiled slightly too and said, "As expected, Lieutenant. Any other suggestions?"

>Zane smiled slightly too and said, "As expected, Lieutenant. Any other suggestions?"
> "Sir," announced Tarrant from the back, "there is another option."
"Lieutenant?" asked Zane, doing a 180 turn in his chair.
"We can assume that the Grey Fleet dosen't know about the Husnock ship or else that would have become their top priority."
"True" admitted the Feynman's Captain. "A prize like that would put them in better with Starfleet than finding the pirate basses at the questionable loss of the Feynman."
"Right. If we emerge from the sack *within* the Husnock ship's shields then we'd be safe for an extended amount of time. The ship's geometry gives us space for the Feynman and Typhoon near the quarter-aft. Maril could continue outside of the shields cloaked. Should the need arise he would become a surprise they hadn't counted on."
"My guess is that Admiral Dawe must have some ships, granted out of sensor range, but ready to assist in capturing the Grey fleet. That *was* our main goal."
<NRPG>
I don't know how the Admiral thought he could sneak up on the Greys, but if the Klingon's were involved then cloaking would be the best key for that. *hint*

Meleah's quarters
Walking down the corridor to her room, Meleah was considering how the news conference had gone. There were not too many awkward questions although it was difficult to answer some of them because she did not yet know all of the details.
As she entered her room, a youngish ensign walked out holding a small child by one hand. "Ah, we were just coming to find you," said Jazz.
Meleah mentally reviewed why Ens Aidonis was looking after Cadence. She remembered that Crysta was working her shift now, so someone else would have been needed to babysit. Although why the xenobiologist would look after Cadence, Meleah had no idea, especially as she had observed that Jazz was not entirely comfortable around children. Remembering that, she could see why the two were coming to look for her.
"Hi, Auntie Melly," Cadence spoke up for her position.
"Hello, Cadence," Meleah replied. Addressing Jazz, she said, "Thank-you for looking after Cadence."
Jazz grinned. They had had great fun together. "My pleasure." She left down the corridor, leaving Meleah and Cadence together.
"How would you like to go out for dinner tonight?" Meleah asked, thinking this may be a good time to try out the holodeck.
"Yeah!" Cadence's enthusiasm showed that she hadn't been affected by any of the experiences she had been through in her short life. As they walked together to deck 8, Cadence chattered all the way about what had happened over the past couple of days.
On arrival at holodeck 2, Meleah entered a program she had designed about Bajor, specifically so that she could teach Cadence more about her heritage. They entered the holodeck, and had a look around before settling at a nice restaurant to eat dinner.
Just before 1800, they left the holodeck, going to deck 11 where Jazz resided. Meleah dropped off Cadence, then went back up to the holo-conference.
NRPG:
Just a brief one that's more character development than anything. I haven't got any ideas to add. Any of the ones suggested sound good.
BTW, I hope Lee Anna got back alright. With the confusion over the times, Meleah sent her to look for Maril at around 0000 but then it was decided that Anna had woken up at around 1200. So did she get back?
Sincerely yours,
Lt. Meleah, CSciO, USS FEYNMAN.

Zane leaned back in his chair and considered what his officers had said. One thing stuck in his mind, Lt. Koreth's assertion that the GREY Fleet had to be apprehended. As long as the FEYNMAN made in back to EPSILON with the information intact they had succeeded. The GREY Fleet, unable to point to any success and unable to defend themselves against the carefully documented charges of the FEYNMAN's officers would be finished. Still they would be free and Zane could think of numerous avenues a SOLAR and AGAMEMNON class vessel could pursue once free of even the semblance of Starfleet control. Even with their deficiencies, those ships would be privateers that could strike with impunity.
But to allow others to catch them? It was the logical course of action but Zane bristled at the idea. Tremaine was their problem and they must be the ones to capture him. It was a matter of honour. *Call my ship a tin can* he thought.
"Lieutenant, you probably know more about the Husnock ship than anyone else; is there an area on board that we can safely transport all our prisoners to? I want somewhere were they will be unable to engage in any mischief and can be kept secured by a minimal number of our personnel. It also needs to be relatively well defended from attack. We can't show up to EPSILON with a bunch of dead prisoners. And if the GREY's decide they can't take her they make destroy her. I know we couldn't scratch the surface but a dedicated attack by the ARGO could do some real damage."
Tarrant considered the problem for a few moments. "Yes, near the center of the ship is a rather large auditorium. The Husnock loved to be entertained and enjoyed virtually ship-wide attendance to regularly scheduled cultural events....the place is huge. It is basically an inverted zigguraut so the TYPHOON crew could be placed at floor level and security could keep an eye on them from above."
"Excellent. Ensign Allard have your security teams coordinate with the TYPHOON and transport all prisoners there."
"Aye sir."
"If the FEYNMAN remains inside the Husnock shielding do you forsee any problems firing our weapons?"
"No sir. We know the shield frequency so a few minor adjustments to the weapons is all that it is needed."
"Good. Ok here's what we'll do. The FEYNMAN will enter into the Husnock shielding in a position that will allow the larger vessel to block it from the view of the GREY Fleet. The Typhoon will position itself in front of the Husnock ship and make a show of towing it. This should trick Tremaine and Co into approaching much closer than he normally would. Once there as close as possible TYPHOON will slip into the protective shielding and we'll pound them. We target weapons, propulsion and shields we want to disable not destroy. In the meantime Maril and the Bat'leth pop in and out of cloak and keep them off balanced."
"To keep up the ruse as long as possible I'll have to communicate with Tremaine text only. If he doesn't seem Rimmer he'll know somethings up."
"Won't they just run once they discover they've been tricked?"
"I don't think so. This is there last chance and I don't think they have the discipline to retreat."
"Any other questions? Good, make any necessary preparations I want to exit the sack at MD:8.0000"
<<<NRPG>>>
Well that's the basics please add any refinements you feel our necessary...

USS FEYNMAN: Here We Go!
by Kristen Gant 9-6-1996
Stardate: 80906.1233
Scene: Guest quarters
MD: 7.1830
Dee was politely escorted to guest quarters after her chat with Dr. Glin'kharr about a new face. Though she could hardly call herself a guest being escorted by two security guards at all times. She knew Zane didn't trust her, but she didn't really care. It was time to move on, and she wasn't going to do anything to jeopardize her chances to do that. She wasn't stupid and knew when enough was enough.
Just as she'd known that Tremaine would be taken down by the FEYNMAN, she knew that she had to watch her step or she'd go with him. Now she had the perfect opportunity to move on, without leaving a trail.
"This will be where you'll stay until we reach Epsilon, ma'am," said the security guard.
She moved toward him, "Why don't you come in and keep me company, you shouldn't leave your 'guests' unattended, you know."
"Sorry ma'am, that isn't in our orders."
She sighed, "No I suppose it wouldn't be." She entered the room and allowed the door to close leaving the two security guards standing by her door.
Heading into the bath room, she carefully removed the long dark locks she'd been sporting, revealing an absolutely bald head, "Now that's better," she chuckled, as she scratched her head. The wigs always made her head itch.
She quickly undressed and crawled into bed, looking forward to a quiet nights sleep while under the protection of the FEYNMAN. She was sure that here, Tremaine would not be able to get to her.
Scene: Observation Lounge
MD: 7.1845
Krysa waited until everyone had left before approaching the Captain. "Sir, I'm concerned over this bargain you seem to have made with that woman."
"I only did what needed to be done." He said quietly.
"I know," she answered, "But I don't trust her. How do you know she isn't going to try and sabotage us or something for Tremaine."
"We don't."
"Then how can you keep her here."
"I don't see that we have a choice. She came here with an offer to help you. And she did. Though if I'd known it was going to be that simple .." he looked at the woman, "Don't you get any feelings from her."
"Sure, but I'm not sure how much of that I can trust based on what she did to me." Krysa sighed, "She seems to be being honest in her desire to be free of Tremaine." Of course this fact did nothing to ease Krysa's concerns.
Scene: Bridge
MD: 8.0000
Krysa sat at Ops, glad to be back in her own comfortable spot. She wasn't sure Command would ever sit comfortably with her, though she'd never thought she'd be comfortable being anything other then a Ship's Counselor either. Life sure threw some curves.
"Sir," she reported, "we are in position within the Husnock ship's shields."
"Excellent," he said. "Maril, Jerran, FEYNMAN is in place. Let's proceed."
<Acknowledged,> came the replies from both Jerran and Maril.

USS FEYNMAN: Standing By
by Max Felsher 9-6-1996
SD: 80906 What had happened? Since the batlh 'etlh would probably be cloaking and decloaking frequently, a device which allowed them to power up and power down the aft phaser bank quickly had been installed. This would greatly increase its efficency if and when they entered the battle. The disrupters had also been strengthened. "Sir, the signal has been sent," the officer at Tactical reported.
"Acknowledged. Engage the cloak and leave the 'Sack."
"Aye, sir."
The Tactical officer again piped up. "There is a Solar-class ship, presumably the Phoenix, approximately 17 kilometers to our port, and an Agammemnon-class vessel, probably the Argonaut, about 250 km away."
"Very well," Maril said thoughtfully. "Place ourselves between the Argonaut and the Phoenix, but closer to the Phoenix. Keep me appraised of the situation."
The sun has met thesea,
Lt. Commander Onta Maril,
First Officer, USS Feynman,
aka Max Felsher
NRPG:
I know it's short, but I just wanted to establish the BoP there.
Well, I'm not sure what's going to happen over near the Phoenix, so I didn't write anything much happening over
there. :|
The suspense is building! ;)
USS FEYNMAN: You're Not Getting Any Golden Fleece
by Max Felsher 9-8-1996
SD: 80908
The batlh 'etlh, like the Bird of Prey herself. The silence was broken quickly. "Sir, the Typhoon is exiting the Coalsack. Also, the Argonaut is moving towards the Phoenix," the Tactical officer reported.
"Very well. Helm, set an intercept course for the Argonaut that keeps the Argonaut as far away from the Phoenix as possible. Inform me when we are within 3 kilometers of the Argonaut."
"Aye, sir. Course plotted and laid in, sir."
"Engage."
For the next few minutes, all on the ship were quiet. They could feel the confrontation coming.
"Three kilometers away, sir."
Maril nodded, and quickly ordered, "Keep up with the Argonaut, Helm. Tactical, disengage the cloak and get the shields up before the Aravian snake strikes."
"Aye, sir. Cloak has been disengaged, raising shields. The Argonaut has stopped and locked their weapons on us."
Maril turned his head to look at the tactical officer. "Have they hailed us?"
"No, sir. They seem to be just waiting for us to make a move."
Maril turned back to face the viewscreen. "Well, then ,we'll send the messenger. Hail them."
After a few seconds, the bridge of a Federation starship appeared on the screen. The Captain of the ship sharply cried, "This is the USS Argonaut. What business do you have here?"
Maril replied coolly, "I am Lieutenant Commander Onta Maril, commanding the Federation Bird of Prey batlh 'etlh. We will not fire on you if you stay here, but I can not allow you to join the Phoenix."
The Captain muttered something incomprehensible before the screen went black again. "They're firing photon torpedoes, sir."
"Brace for impact," Maril yelled as the ship shook.
"Arm disrupters and fire."

USS FEYNMAN: On the Other Side

Scene: Bridge, USS PHOENIX
Tremaine sat slumped in his chair in a foul mood. This mission had been one big disaster after another. First the FEYNMAN had escaped from what seemed like a sure trap, then the defections of the TYPHOON and THUNDER, the betrayal of Dee and now sitting here staring at the sack while the FEYNMAN was probably half way to EPSILON and laughing at them.
He watched as the bridge crew around him did their best to imitate statues in hopes of not attracting his attention. He had already completely lost his temper twice on two junior officers who had made simple mistakes and no one wanted a repeat performance.
"Sir!" The CSO called out. "Something is coming out of the sack."
All eyes turned to the viewscreen in time to see TYPHOON emerge, a tractor beam still extending into the nebula.
"My God Rimmer I didn't think you had it in you." Tremaine whispered to himself before gasping in surprise as the towed vessel emerged revealing itself to be not a Federation destroyer but a Husnock battlecruiser. "Hail the TYPHOON." Tremaine demanded as he almost leaped from his chair with surprise. Already his mind was racing through the possibilities of rewards he would receive when showing up with this treasure trove of information.
"TYPHOON is not responding sir. Sensor scans show moderate damage. Communications may be out." The CSO explained.
Tremaine frowned, with the way the operation had gone so far he was not about to take any chances. "Contact the ARGONAUT and have them close."
"Sir! We're receiving a communication from the TYPHOON. Text only."

"What does it say?" Tremaine asked impatiently.
The CSO quickly scanned the lengthy message. "They infiltrated a pirate base 45 light minutes inside the sack and retrieved as much information as they could find. On return they located the FEYNMAN towing this vessel and ordered them to surrender it to them. The FEYNMAN refused and" There was a pause. "They destroyed her. Unable to penetrate the Husnock vessels shields. They request PHOENIX to come along side and aid in the towing. End message."
"Scan the TYPHOON. Are they as damaged as they say?"
"Structural integrity at 72%, moderate damage in engineering, 30% of tractor emitters overloaded, communications out."
Tremaine stared at the screen. He sensed somthing was wrong but he couldn't put his finger on it. "Scan those phasers scars on the hull. Who fired them?"
"Phaser burns are from Starfleet Type ten phaser. Energy pattern denotes smaller vessel, most likely a destroyer."
"Whats ARGO's eta?"
"Present speed, 10 minutes."
"Okay then we wait till she's here to cover us and then we move in and aid in the towing."
The executive officer leaned over to the captain. "Don't trust Rimmer?"
"I don't trust anyone."

Scene: Bridge
Zane paced the bridge restlessly, painfully aware that he hid while his crew stood out in the open ready to take the first attack from two very powerful ships. Every part of him hoped that Tremaine would buy the ruse long enough to give them time to reach the outskirts of EPSILON's regular patrol vessels and perhaps sidestep the violence altogether. But he knew how unlikely that was and a part of him rejoiced in this realization. Tremaine would pay for the lives he had cost by standing idly by at the Ring when his ships medical facilities could have offered comfort.
"Captain the TYPHOON's tractor beam energy dispersal is rotating." The CSO announced excitedly.
"Is it the signal?" Before they had left the sack Zane and Jerran had developed a method to signal the FEYNMAN when the battle began. With the smaller ship hidden behind the bulk of the Husnock ship it was likely that communications may be disrupted for a few crucial seconds. The fluctuating tractor beam would, however, be noticed instantly and it wouldn't give away FEYNMAN's hiding spot as a normal transmission might.
"Yes sir."
"Go to red alert, sound battle stations. Helm lets get in there."
Silently the destroyer slipped away from its makeshift shield and slid along the underbelly of the Husnock battlecruiser.

SCENE: Deck 9 [Sickbay]
J.C. emerged from the confines of Dr. Glin'Khars sickbay, full of energy. He was not at all tired, considering the variety of events this last week. J.C. smiled to himself, considering a Star Fleet recruiter explaining the past weeks events to a prospective Cadet. Walking along the corridors of deck nine, he passed some of the various labs and medical offices, finally reaching the lift. Once inside, he stopped for a moment. He wanted to check in with his department, but should probably report to the bridge first.
"Main bridge", J.C. mumbled to the computer, which launched the lift onward and upward, depositing the COS on the bridge...
On stepping out of the lift, J.C. took a quick survey of the bridge, seeing CPO2 Jerry Jonas at the TAC station.
"You're relieved, Mr. Jonas. I'll take the rest of your shift for you.". Jerry turned, with a look of surprise at seeing his immediate CO unexpectedly, and came to attention. J.C. held out his hand and Jerry stood at-ease, grinning at his commander.
"Welcome back, Sir. We thought, that is Mr. Matsumii said you and Mr. Tamarov would probably be out for another day or so." Jerry backed away from the console so J.C. could take his place.
"Our CMO was probably glad to get rid of me. I was starting to feel like a paperweight in there. As for Mr. Tamarov, I have to talk to the doctor tomorrow, I'm not sure yet." J.C. started to pull up the ship's logs of the last week, trying to put Alex's face out of his mind. He would go over the shift logs and the Security Dept. reports tomorrow.
"Well, it's good to have you back J..., um I mean Mr. Allard." Jerry blushed slightly, almost breaching protocol. It was hard to call someone Sir who was the same age as yourself. J.C. remembered some Academy nightmares in that area.
"Have a good night sleep, Mr. Jonas."
"Thanks. Sir." Jerry left for the turbo lift. Jerry could see he would quickly grow tired after reading the volumes of logs that transpired over the last week....

>Silently the destroyer slipped away from its makeshift shield and slid along the underbelly of the Husnock battlecrusier.
Krysa's sensors began going wild, "Sir, there is phaser and disruptor fire all over the place up there."
Suddenly the ship shook, "What was that?" Zane ordered.
"Type Xc phaser cannon hitting the Husnock shields, sir. They appear to still be holding."
"I guess their serious," murmured Krysa under her breath. She pulled up a few more scans, "Captain, the shielding nearest the TYHOON is thinning. Not sure how much more it will take. The PHOENIX is firing everything she's got. I'd say Tremaine is a little angry."
"Very likely, Lt." Zane grinned. "And he'll find that will be his undoing. Can you contact Lt. Jerran yet?"
"Yes sir, coming through now."
<Shields are buckling in the front!> Jerran shouted. <We just lost our phasers array.>
"How long will shields hold, Lt?"
<Maybe another hit, sir. Commander Maril is drawing some of the fire.>
"Sir, I've got confirmation on the PHOENIX and the ARGONAUT. Commander Maril is doing a good job keeping the batlh'etlh zipping in and out of sensors. I think their having a hard time locating the ship to actually hit him."

>"Excellent." said Zane with a smile. "Lt. Koreth, prepare phasers. Let's
>pay a little call on Captain Tremaine."
The Feynman slipped through the Husnock's shields, and out of her hiding spot.
"Give me the Pheonix on screen." Announced Zane spinning in his chair.
The viewscreen flashed to a view of Tremain's Ship. A phaser blast from it seemed to just miss the Typhoon. Jerran was pushing his ship to the limits of it's navigational abilities to stay out of the path of the phaser cannon.
"Sir, Phasers and Torpedoes locked and ready." Announced Tarrant.
The Feynman sped towards the Pheonix, approaching from below. Although now aware of the Feynman, the warship was too slow to outmanuver the smaller attacker.
"Mr. Koreth, target that cannon. Torpedoes and phasers... NOW!" Zane's voice trembled with a combination of revenge, hatred, satisfaction, and many other emotions rarely evident in the Captain.
Through the silence of space a volly of 6 torpedos, close packed cluster headed towards the cannon mounted into the Phoenix. Four hit directly, and as they did a phaser blast opened through the already weakened shields. The blast opened up the weapon, which had been apparently ready to fire. A chain reaction of explosion followed the cannon to it's end.
"Direct hit! The phaser cannon is disabled." Announced Tarrant, already working on the next volly.
Suddenly a phaser blast from the Pheonix rocked the Feynman. Although not as powerful as the cannon, the phaser array seemed to be functioning adequately.
"Shield's 92%.. they are holding."
"She's without her bite, but still has claws." said Zane, "Take us to bearing 186 mark 5. Take us between the Typhoon and the Pheonix. Mr. Koreth prepare another volly... target their warp engines."
"Sir, three new ships on long range... coming from Epsilon."
"Time"
"ETA... 2 minutes."
Zane's face had hardened to stone. "We'll finish this...now..."

Maril ordered as the battle raged fiercely.
Direct hit to their starboard nacelle!" the tactical officer shouted.
"We want to take out their weapons, not their engines," Maril said, restraining his annoyance. "Recloak."
"Aye, sir. The Argonaut is trying to outmaneuver us," Tactical smirked.
"They're going under us, sir," the helm officer reported.
"Very well. Helm, bring us to heading 150, mark 330."
"Aye, sir."
Maril sighed. It was hard to hold a ship together during a battle. Quickly turning his attention back to the battle, he ordered, "Heading 090, mark 12."
"Aye, sir."
"Decloak in 5 seconds. Mark."
After five seconds, the tactical office reported, "Decloaking now."
"Fire disrupters," Maril said without hesitation.
"Their forward shields are down to 44%, sir."
"Engage the cloak. Helm, heading 190, mark 42."
"Aye, sir. They are continuing on their course towards the main battle."
"Disengage the cloak now and fire disrupters."
"Sir, they have weapons locked on us! They're firing phasers and a spread of photon torpedoes!"
"How is that-" Maril shouted before he flew out of his chair. Sparks flew from all of the consoles and the navigational console exploded.
Maril slowly pushed himself up from the rubble. "Engage the cloak," he said weakly. "Heading 305, mark 0."
"Cloak is engaged," said the char-faced tactical officer. "Having trouble initiating helm control." As he said this, he looked over at the helm officer, who was lying on the ground with burns all over his body. Maril checked his pulse; he felt nothing.
"I don't know how they had their weapons locked on us so quickly, sir."
"That's not the main priority right now. We have to disable the Argonaut. If I remember correctly, she was never comissioned because of faulty Bussard ramscoops."
"But how could we use that to our advantage?"
"I'm not sure. All the ramscoops do is collect hydrogen for the warp engines to power the ship if she heads into the forests of Redask. But maybe if we can initiate their Bussard ramscoops and then deposit chemicals which will react dangerously with each other-"
"The ramscoops will compress the chemicals together, and since the CCF won't operate, it will result in an explosion right near the Argonaut!"
Maril quickly sat down in the Captain's chair. "Do we have any chemicals we can combine?"
"Yes, but only about 35,000 grams total."
"Vent it. Initiate a subspace pulse at the resonance frequency of cobalt-lanthanide-boronite. That should engage the Bussard ramscoops."
MD 8.0025
USS Argonaut
"Where is it?" the Captain of the Argonaut shouted. After the Bird of Prey had cloaked they hadn't been able to find it, and he was getting nervous.
"Sir!" the Ops officer cried. "Some chemicals have been vented by the Bird of Prey. The sensor array is analyzing the composition. They are-"
"Our Bussard ramscoops have been activated, sir!" the engineering officer on the Bridge reported. "They're drawing in the chemicals!"
"The sensors have just finished the analysis. They are two very volatile chemicals which will reeact in seven seconds...six...five..."
"Shields up!"
"They're already up!"
"Three...two...one...reaction!"
The Bridge shook violently and sparks flew, although everything remained intact.
"Shields and warp engines, as well as weapons are offline, sir," the Ops officer reported.
"The Bird of Prey is hailing us, sir," the Tactical officer said with some despair.
"Put 'em on screen."
A male Tamarian on the Bridge of a Bird of Prey appeared on the viewscreen.
[This is Lieutenant Commander Maril. I demand your immediate and total surrender. You will be escorted to Epsilon where you and your crew will be court-martialed. Do you agree to these terms?]
"Never!" the Captain shouted. "You'll never get my ship! I'll-"
The Captain stopped as the image was replaced by black. The XO of the ship stared the Captain right in the eye.
"Captain, I am relieving you of command. Please step down quietly."
"What do you think you're doing! Security-"
"Security, have the Captain escorted to the brig."
The security officers followed the FO's commands as that XO sat down in the central chair. "On screen."
Maril reappeared. "Commander Maril, I have relieved the former Captain of this ship. We accept your terms of surrender."
SCENE: Corridor outside Brig
The Captain stewed silently at his XO's mutinous decision. He was waiting for his chance.
It came. When one of the security officers looked away for a second, he launched an elbow into him, knocking the officer down. Then he grabbed the oher officer's phaser and fired it at its owner.
SCENE: Engineering
Beams of energy shot out as the former Captain of the Argonaut fired at several engineering officers.
"Alright, I'm in command now. Computer, reroute command of the ship to Engineering. Authorization Sendel arc 13 alpha."

USS FEYNMAN: The End
by Andrew Catterick 9-13-1996
SD: 80913.1500
MD: 8.0021
Scene: Bridge
The battle was only several minutes old but to its participants it seemed like it gone on forever. Initially the plan had gone well. The PHOENIX had launched a savage salvo of destruction against the TYPHOON and FEYNMAN but had failed to inflict any damage to the two ships safely protected by the Husnock vessels massive shielding. Unfortunately the shielding worked both ways as the Starfleet officers found out when they returned fire. By the time the phasers had cleared the Husnock shielding and hit the PHOENIX most of their energy had been dissapaited. The result was that the Zane and Jerran had begun to slip out of the shields, fire their weapons and return to the protection of the Husnock ship before the PHOENIX had returned fire. It wasn't entirely successful and both ships had sustained damage but not as much as they had inflicted. The destruction of the PHOENIX's phaser cannon was certainly the beginning of the end for the command cruiser but it seemed Tremaine had not realized this.
In the distance the AROGNAUT raced to the battle scene with the Bat'leth in pursuit. Maril had the Bird of Prey slipping in and out of cloak as he fired volley after volley. While the ARGO was taking damage from the relentless attack its enhanced shielding and heavy abaltive armour was providing sufficent protection to turn the attacks into more of a nuisance than a threat.
Both Jerran and Zane realized that they had to remove PHOENIX from the battlefield before ARGO arrived if they had any hope of winning. Both ships left the protective shielding once again using their superior maneuverabilty to evade the PHOENIX's continous fire. Watching the tactical display Zane noticed the TYPHOON beginning a maneuver that he and Jerran had used countless times on the holodeck when they flew old vintage airplanes in recreation's of Earth's Second World War. He recognized the maneuver from one of their Pacific War scenario's. "Helm come to new course 326 mark 29. Decrease speed to 1/3 impulse."
"Aye sir." t'Jon replied over the noise of the phaser fire and the rumbling of the ship as it received damage.
On the tactical screen Zane watched as TYPHOON continued in the familiar maneuver. PHOENIX didn't seem to recognize it and was playing the part of unwary victim perfectly as she quickly placed herself in harm's way. TYPHOON was presenting herself in a threatening position therby coercing PHOENIX into turning towards her as FEYNMAN seemed to be out of position to attack. But would Tremaine remain the fool? TYPHOON seemingly made a disasterous move placing itself almost directly in front of the PHOENIX's main weapons. Instantly the command cruiser turned to bring all weapons to bear.
Zane saw the opening he had been waiting for. "Helm hard to port. Increase speed to full and come to course 263 mark 180!"
Suddenly the SOLAR class command cruiser found herself directly below the approaching destroyer. Without even firing at the TYPHOON it began to change course. It was too late.
"Fire!" Zane shouted and watched with grim satisfaction as first photons and then phasers screamed away. The photon barrage impacted the SOLAR's shields right between the two main nacelles and just aft of the third. The phaser salvo blew through what little remained of the shields and sliced throught the secondary hull heading for the engineering section. The PHOENIX would soon be dead. Almost simultaneously Jerran had the TYPHOON swing around and launch its own death blow at the saucer section. Within seconds the PHOENIX was shieldless and floating in space, crippled beyond repair.
"PHOENIX has suffered extensive damage. Shields destroyed, weapons offline, life support failing. Sensors are picking up life-pods being ejected. She's done." J.C announced full of enthusiasm, his first space battle was a success. Zane hoped it wouldn't go to his head. An over confident CSO was deadly.
"Using tractor to snare lifepods." Tarrant reported.
"So is TYPHOON. We have 30 seconds before ARGO arrives." Jenn added.
"Get as many as you can but I want us back inside the Husnock's shields before ARGO targets us."
For the next 15 seconds both ships conducted rescue operations mindful of the approaching battle cruiser. "Captain, there is a shuttle leaving from the PHOENIX's primary shuttlebay. It's heading for the sack."
"Probably Tremaine trying to escape. Mr. Koreth can you..." Zane was interrupted as the ship bucked around him. Once again he was thankful to have his chair. "Report!"
"That was from the ARGO captain!" The CSO replied. "She's still several seconds from being close enough to do any real damage. I'd say that was a warning."
"Helm get us back in to the Husnock Shields." Zane ordered more than annoyed at Tremaine's likely escape.
"Aye sir." t'Jon calmly replied. On the viewscreen TYPHOON was coming about, heading for safety as well.
None to soon both ships were in the safety of the larger vessel. But safety was relative. There was still a very large, very angry battlecruiser just outside the Husnock's shielding powering an almost unbelievable amount of firepower against the ship in relentless frustration.
Zane sat in his chair and tried to come up with an option. he could see little room to maneuver. The second the FEYNMAN or TYPHOON ventured out beyond the shields they would become easy prey to the ARGO's formiddable weapons array. It would seem the only hope was the approaching ships from EPSILON. "How soon til reinforcements?"
"They've slowed. Another thirty seconds at least." Allard replied. "Its a small task force. One HOOD class cruiser, a destroyer, frigate and three corvettes." The tone of his voice said it all. These ships would provide little danger to the ARGO. Still with all the ships together they would be able to eventually defeat her but at what loss?
"Sir!" Allard shouted. "The Husnock forward shields are starting to buckle."
Zane sprang from his chair too look over Jenn's shoulder at the sensor reports. "Helm prepare to come about. We'll remain here as long as we can."
"Sensors show increased computer action aboard the Husnock vessel." Jenn announced.
"The Grey Fleet prisoners?" Zane asked.
"Unlikely sir. Sensors have all prisoners accounted for in the cargo area." Jenn replied.
"Captain! The Husnock's weapon systems have come on line. She's firing!" All watched helplessly as 4 volleys sprang out from the Husnock's forward batteries. The first two enveloped the ship deteriorating the shields. The third struck along the ventral-fore rim of the primary hull with enough force to send the huge ship reeling backward end over end. The final bolt struck the dorsal section of the secondary hull, the cripling blow.
"Status." Zane ordered breaking the silence.
"ARGONAUT is finished. All systems offline, lifepods are begining to eject. The reinforcements are moving to retrieve survivors."
"And the Hunsock ship?"
"Has returned to normal power levels and continuing on preset course to EPSILON."
"The HOOD class ship PRINCE OF WALES is hailing."
"On screen."
The face of Zane's one-time Academy squad leader appeared on the screen looking somewhat disgruntled. [What the hell is going on around here?]
"Hi Bob." Zane replied with a victorious grin. "Nice of you to come over the horizon *almost* in the nick of time."
[Damn, Nicholas told me it was going to be dicey but I should have known if the FEYNMAN was involved it would be mess.] He glanced off screen for a few seconds. [I see your exec is commanding that Bird of Prey. How did that happen?]
"Thats a long story and I'm not sure if I can even tell you about it."
[Well as much as my ego hates to bring it up the admiral named you as leader of this merry little fleet. But don't let it go to your head your simply commander in the field and I still outrank you. So what are your orders commander sir.]
"All four ships are brimming with survivors and prisoners and we've got some information that needs to be at EPSILON ASAP..."
[...and you want me to clean up the mess.]
"Exactly."
Fifteen minutes later the FEYNMAN and her escorts, having watched the scuttling of the PHOENIX and ARGONAUT sped away for home.

Tarrant suspected as much. "Bring up what we have... "

USS FEYNMAN: News From Home
by Andrew Catterick 9-14-1996
SD: 80914.1900
MD: 9.1400
Scene: Ready-Room
Zane stared down at the computer on his desk in shocked silence. With the battle over and the FEYNMAN racing towards home he had sent his intial report to the Admiral and SILVER intel, almost instantly he had received a fleet update filling him in on the happenings of SILVER while the FEYNMAN had been in the 'sack and out of communication. The news had gone a long way in deflated much of the triumph he was feeling after another completed mission and the defeat of Tremaine. Finally he stirred, rising he heading for the replicator. "Coffee, Orange Brandy, hot."
Grabbing the steaming mug he returned to his desk and again sat in silence. The sweet aroma of the coffee slowly filling the room.
"Lt. Jenn will you report to my ready-room." He ordered over the comm. With Maril still aboard the Bat'leth, Jenn was acting executive officer.
[On my way.] With Krysa on the bridge she appeared soon after her reply. "You wanted to see me Captain?" She asked curiously instantly aware of her Captain's mood and the strange look on his face.
Zane simply spun the terminal around to face her. "Pull up a chair it'll take some time to go through this."
Her curiousity mounting she sat and leaned across the desk to read the screen. Zane spun in his chair, quietly drinking his coffee and staring out the window at the receeding starfield. After a few minutes Krsya broke the silence. "So SILVER is split into two task forces. Makes sense with the size of our fleet and all that has happened of late. I see you'll still be reporting to our gruff Admiral." She smirked playfully and for a moment Zane's face lightened but then returned to its stoney gaze. Jenn too quickly erased the smirk as she saw Zane was in no mood for light humour.
"It would seem so." he replied. "Read on."
Again the silence but this time it was broken more quickly as Krsya gasped. "On my....REGENT destroyed. How?...."
"Its all there but information is still...lacking. FALCON has responed."
"Any survivours?" She asked quietly. Of course the loss of any life was a blow especially fellow Starfleet officer's but Krysa, like many aboard had friends on the REGENT.
"Still sketchy but FALCON reports long-range sensors have picked up scattered lifesigns...probably some made it to lifepods. It will be a few hours before we know more."
"You knew Captain Fife didn't you?"
"Not really. I met him once. I had just reported to SILVER, actually we were still WHITE Fleet back then. My academy room mate was on the REGENT as the FCO. Fife had just pulled some strings and got him assigned as OPS/20 on HAWKING. We bumped into each other on EPSILON....talk about a charmed career...I hope it stayed with him."
"I'll let the crew know about REGENT..."
"Read on. Unfortunately there's more."
A few minutes later Krsya mirrored or earlier actions. "Oh my God, SERAPIS too?"
Zane nodded grimly. "Less is known about this one. Ships are enroute but long range scans show a large debris field and little else. Fleet is hopeful but...." his voice trailed off, unwilling to speak the obvious.
"Are the two related?"
"Unknown but Fleet thinks it unlikely. Almost opposite patrol areas and REGENT had been deployed to a known hostile area. SERAPIS? It seems it was a random attack but there is probably much more to it than that. It takes a hell of a lot of fire power to destroy a SOLAR and I'm sure this incident has got fleet in convulsions. We split into two task-forces and then the home fleet is cut down by a third...there are going to be some serious reprecussions."
The two officers sat in silence considering the situation before Jenn spoke. "I'll inform the crew sir." She stood.
"Thank-you lieutenant. How is our guest doing?" Zane asked cryptically.
Krysa frowned. "She's confined to her quarters and security hasn't heard a peep from her." A pause. "I'll be glad when were rid of her." She added with obvious distaste
Zane nodded. "Agreed." As Krysa departed he reached over to the terminal and spun it around to face him. With a few quick commands he forwarded the reports to Maril on the Bat'leth. Finished he sat back in silence once again.

Just getting our characters caught up with what has been going on in SILVER while we were incommunicado.
Lets say we arrive at EPSILON on Monday.

USS FEYNMAN: Recovery
by Michael "Mike" Dailey 9-14-1996

Scene: Holodeck 2
J.C. picked up a small rock and tried unsuccessfully to skip it off of the river slowly rushing below him. The rock jumped once, them plopped into the bottom of the river. Further down, you could see the river emptying into a larger body of water. It was 0300 hrs, middle of the 'night' for alpha shift, but after laying down for almost an hour, wide awake and not the least bit tired, J.C. got up. He went to his closet and got his beat-up brown hiking boots, a pair of dark blue shorts and a light grey T-shirt and headed for the Holodeck.
Originally, he had thought to re-create Gagnon Park, his favorite place from his home in MontLaurier. But seeing home, J.C. decided, was not what he wanted right now. He had instructed the computer to design a park-like setting on a Class-M planet with a medium-sized river at random. Once he stepped in, J.C. smiled to himself and walked over to a small pile of rocks near a sharp turn in the river. He took a seat on one of the larger rocks with a flat spot. The rock was warm from the sunlight. *Hmm, nice touch computer* Looking down at the churning water, and listening to nature's sounds had a soothing effect on the junior officer.
After the battle with the ARGONAUT, Capt. Zane had dismissed alpha watch. Their small 'fleet' would be underway to EPSILON for debriefing as soon as Zane and the Captain of the PRINCE OF WHALES sorted out the details of thier merry little mess. J.C. stopped by the security office to confer with the duty officer PO2 Matsummi. He still had the past week's reports and shift logs to go over, and the matter of PO2 Jerry Jonas disciplinary action. Dropping the disks back onto his desk, J.C. got and and vowed to himself to get all the back work done. *We did away with paper, but never paperwork!* Once done, he headed for the lift and hesitated before giving his destination. "Sickbay", he said.
Once there, the two duty doctors looked up, surprised at the unexpected visitor. "Sirs,", J.C. nodded to the Andorian LtJg. and human CWO, "I would like to look in on my security officers," asked the CSO.
The Andorian doctor got up, "Ens. Allard, we've released everyone to their quarters except for CPO Tamarov. Your department faired well, no fatalities and 11 wounded, only Mr. Tamarov and yourself were serious. The CPO suffered a direct Phaser hit. It missed his heart, but damaged some lung tissue. But when he fell, he hit his head, giving him a mild concussion. Dr. Glin'Khar expects to release him within the next few days, followed by the standard 2-days off duty for complete rest." He lead J.C. towards the room where Alex lay.
"He's asleep now, but you can go in just for a minute. Don't worry about waking him, the sedative will keep him out for sever more hours.", The doctor bowed slightly as with Andor custom, and left. J.C. glanced over to Alex. He was resting, J.C. could see his body slowly rise and lower with each breath. *True, no one died in my command, but my gut still grinds every time I think of the 11 who were wounded. I know I can't be everywhere, yet I still feel personally responsible for their injuries. All the death we've seen this week, and all the other officers act like nothings happened. I've never faced death up close, but I know I will someday soon.* J.C. shuddered turned towards the door, wiping the bit of water around his eye and cursing himself for getting so emotional. One terrible day his second and worst year at the academy appeared in his mind, before that four-hour talk with Boothby turned his attitude and life around.
- "Snap out of it, Cadet, Stand at ATTENTION!" roared Sgt. Boland.
They bolted up, Tim looked at J.C. with fear through his red eye slowly turning black. J.C. tried to hide the cut on his lower lip. "If this weren't a holodeck, you would be in worse condition. You too, Cadet Hahn. Consider yourselves both on report. I doubt it, but someday you'll both get your comissions and possible lead teams. The people under you will count on you for leadership and guidance. But you have to respect them too, people won't willingly follow orders of someone they feel respect dosen't flow both ways, especially when two senior officer ARGUE and fight in front of them! Their LIVES will depend on YOU, and sooner or later someone WILL die because of a decision you make, and nothing you can do will change that! Dismissed, report to the Commandant's Office! *
Leaving Sickbay before his stomach did flips, J.C. headed to the lift and his quarters...
He reached over for another rock, this one going high and far with J.C.'s best baseball pitch. Several birds of a species he had never seen before landed a few meters away. As much as he liked this place, it was not cheering him up. Maybe 10-foreward would help....

USS FEYNMAN: For The Dead
by Jason Bostjancic 9-15-1996

MD: 9.1650
Scene: Engineering
Tarrant stood and looked down at the spot in engineering. There was an evident lack of emotion on the partial Klingon's face... a thoughtful sadness seen mostly on works of art.
His father would have scolded him for being so mournful. "The battle was won? Was it not? Those who died... died with honor." But it was Tarrant's human side that fought with the idea.
He looked over at the Jefferies Tube - where he watched, bound by silence, as his ACEO was vaporized into nothingness by a pirate's overzealous phaser-shot.
Honor...
Without warning Tarrant lifted his head up, and as he did so a cry erupted from within the officer. One which was accompanied by all his heritage. Those in Engineering were startled, some rushed over to see what was the matter. But, when they came upon the partial klingon, and saw the site, they could only nod in acknowledgement.
As the cry died away, and the echo's lost in the hum of the reactor, Tarrant whispered to the ghosts around him. As if satisfying the opposite nature of his being, loud to soft, Klingon to human.
, "God be with you Thomas Jerad...God be with you."
Scene: 10-F
Tarrant walked in, and almost immediately regreted it. The mood was cheery, filled with excitement and happiness at their success - It was not reflecting the CEO's mood.
"Bat," Tarrant took a seat at the bar, "klingon blood wine."
The old-CEO stared for a moment at his new customer. Usually the request was for Terrellian Juice, or some type of Betazoid drink. Not wanting to probe to far yet, Bat reached for a bottle. Tarrant grabbed his hand before it made it to its destination.
"The real stuff, no synthetics. " The tone was harsh. Realizing it was so, he managed a smile, "I know you have some."
Bat meerly nodded and went deep behind the bar. As he poured the crimson drink he commented, "From what I've heared, there was nothing you could do. "
Tarrant took the cup and downed half of it. "That's what I keep telling myself... but I *was* there. I could have... should have acted."
The liquid stirred in the glass as Tarrant shook the glass. For a second he noted how such a dark drink could still reflect the lights above. But he pushed away the thought. Now was not his time... but for others...
He pounded his fist into the table, "Damn it, in security I leared nerver to get attached, I liked it like that, but down in engineering... "
"You have to be 'human' again. And part of that is accepting the gains and losses.:
Bat poured himself a glass and held it up,
"To Ensign Thomas Jerad"
"To .. Thomas"

Scene: Counselor's Office.
"Good Afternoon captain." Counselor Lee said as Zane entered her office. "What can I do for you?"
"Sorry to disturb you, I know your facing a lot right now but we'll be at EPSILON soon and I need your opinion on the crew."
Lee sat back into her chair and remained silent for a few moments. "They've been through alot. This past mission has seen much death and destruction, the whole time the possibility that we would fail and perhaps be killed at the hands of the GREY Fleet a very plausible one. Many have lost friends or colleagues and they'll need some time but what I'm most concerned about is the effect of the REGENT and SERAPIS on them so soon after a battle where *we* destroyed ships and lives. Besides the sense of loss there will be sense of guilt."
Zane nodded. "How bad?"
"For most it will actually be a good thing. We all know this can happen, we're trained and prepared. Well, prepared as you can be. But being prepared for it and facing it are two very different things and the experience will make them stronger. I would be more worried if they didn't have these feelings. But for some...they may never fully get over them. Its all a matter of time."
"Which brings me to my question. How much time do you recommend on EPSILON. I don't want to head back out without a fit crew and I think a little downtime will go along way but I also realize idleness can have the opposite effect. If you can write up your recommendations I'll make sure they're accepted by command."
"I'll have it on your desk before we dock."
"Thank you Counselor..." Zane was interrupted by a chirp from his commbadge. He shrugged and smiled at Lee. "Zane here."
[[Ensign Daruk captain. Our *guest* wishes to speak with you sir. Shall I bring her to your location?]]
"No that's alright ensign I'll make a housecall. Zane out."
With a smile and a wave he was gone.

Scene: Guest Quarters
"You finished bashing around the ship?" Dee asked as Zane entered her quarters. Anticpating his arrival she had changed into something a little more appealing in the hopes that it might curry favour. She had no illusions as to how Zane felt about her but she knew who she looked like and the effect it had. No point in wasting it.
Zane ignored the question and apparently her apparel. "What did you want?"
"My new face. Whats taking that wolf or yours? Someone take him for a walk?" She sneered.
"Dr. Glin'kharr is one of the finest officers I have ever served with and one more insult and I'll reevaluate my decision."
"Don't make threats you can't keep captain or I may have to have a heartfelt 'woman-to-woman' with a mutual friend." She smiled innocently. "I so hate to keep secrets."
"I will not be bullied by you or anyone else. You know I want this to remain silent but I will no longer base my decision's around it." He replied firmly.
"I see. Well then perhaps you can make *Doctor* Glin'kharr a little more accomadating."
"Meaning?"
"He refused to honour any of my choices."
"And I agree with him. Do you think we'd foolishly just accept your choice without checking. I don't think the Aldeberaan ammbassador would welcome you looking like his wife any more than Admiral Patterson would."
"Hmppf. Well I'm not taking any of the suggestions the doctor made. Did you see some of the hags he put forward?"
"Yes I did actually." He chuckled. "I think the doctor showed impeccable taste. But I stopped by sickbay on my way here. He can't find a match for the last face you chose so he's ready for you."
"Well then let's go!"

Scene: 10-Forward
Having left Dee in Glin'kharr's capable hands Zane had decided to have a little relaxation with the crew. On entering 10-Forward he noticed Tarrant and Krysa at the bar apparently having some sort of confrontation. Moving to investigate he noted a nod from Bat telling him not to interfere. Trusting the old barkeep's instincts he stopped and watched, waiting to see what would happen.

>"I do not wish your company," the Klingon growled.

>Krysa shrugged, "No, I suppose not. But really, when has that ever stopped me."
>
>Koreth glared at the Ops officer, "I am warning you, I prefer to be alone."
>
>"Tarrant," she said quietly, "you don't have to talk to me. In fact if you
>really want you can throw me across the room to prove your desire to be
>alone. But you what, I'd probably still come back. So you might as well get
>used to it."
The CEO seemed at conflict with which action to take. Krysa was beginning to think that maybe she should have left out the part about throwing her across the room.
"Two things then Lieutenant..." announced the partial Klingon as he turned to the bottle before him and poured some of the dark liquid into another glass. "You must drink, for a member of this crew has died with honor."
"Fine" The OPS officer said in a I-can-match-you show of strength. But when she peered into the cup and smelled the awful drink second thaughts again surfaced.
Quickly holding up the glass, Tarrant made a quiet toast to his fallen comrad and downed the drink. Krysa, a little more apprehensively, followed suit. However, the grimace on her face after putting the glass down told what she thought of Blood Wine. This brought laughter from the CEO.
"You had better stop.. 'Krysa', this isn't synthahol."
Krysa continued to make opening and closing movements with her mouth, as if trying to find her voice again. In a scratchy tone she managed a reply, "You could have *warned* me."
Then as the ultimate show of force she grabbed the bottle, "Another?"
"You have won Lieutenant." smilled Tarrant ruefully, " Perhaps there is some Klingon in your vein's... you may drink with me any time. But I believe that Bat needs some of this around for certain Klingon dignitaries who might show up."
As an afterthought he added, "Besides, I don't much care for this stuff either."
A smile of relief flashed accross Krysa's face, "Just when I peg you for a Klingon, you turn and do something utterly human. "
"Heh, thank you Lieutenant. I *am* more human than Klingon, but that one side is so dominating... sometimes I forget it's even there. Bat... some Terellian Juice - chilled."
The bartender moved to make the drink.

USS FEYNMAN: Take Me Drunk, I'm Home
by Michael "Mike" Dailey 9-15-1996
SD: 80915.2030

Scene: 10-F
Still clad in his off-duty hiking boots, shorts and T-shirt J.C. entered 10-foreward as the doors swooshed closed behind him. The sounds of laughter, talking, and someone playing what he believed to be a classical Centaurian Jazz piece, were surrounding the room. Glancing around, he saw many of Alpha's shift enjoying themselves, in addition to quite a few of those from Gamma relaxing before going on-shift. Everyone needed to unwind a little after being at Red Alert on and off for over a week.
Looking at the tables facing the star-filled windows spanning the port wall of 10-F, J.C. saw two of his security Squad Leaders, the Vulcan CPO T'Boc, and PO1 Bordeau a Terran, along with MCPO Mike Larocque and two other crewmen he didn't know engaged in some sort of card game. Bordeau, facing J.C. nodded to her CO, J.C. smiling back and moved towards the bar.
"How about some service, here! What does a guy have to do to get a drink around this place!". Bat looked over, regarded the CSO. Taking his time, he carefully and meticulously polished the glass he was holding with his white barkeep's towel. Once satisfied the already dry and clean glass was in fact spotless, he swung the towel over his shoulder and walked over to J.C.
"I thought I heard some loud noise over here, but I could be wrong?" said the barkeep. "How are you, tonight Justin."
"Well, I spent some time in the Holodeck trying to unwind, but it didn't really help much. I though I wanted to be alone, but changed my mind." J.C. slid onto one of the comfortable stools surrounding the bar. "I though maybe here in 'Bat's Domain' I could relax."
"I've seen more of the crew in here in the past few hours than I've seen in quite a while. I was beginning to think you and a few first-year Cadets were the only holdouts." They both laughed, "What can I get for you, Justin? Want your usual double Ssiruv Juice?", asked Bat.
"No, not this time. I need something to pop my eyes out! How about a double Gin and Tonic with an orange slice?". Bat made a strange face, "OoooKayy. You asked for it." He went to the replicator and returned. "Here's your power-potion, Justin. I'll talk to ya' later." Bat went off to serve three crewmen who just came in. J.C. took a large gulp of his drink, winced slightly. *Hmm, not bad. Kinda dry though.* At the other end of the bar, he could see Lts. Koreth and Jenn talking to each other. Lt. Meleah was sitting at a table next to the windows. The doors to 10-F opened to deposit Capt. Zane. Seeing his CO, J.C. spun around, and took another large gulp and got up quickly. * My mood is bad enough, I don't want the Wrath of Zane to get any worse right now.* Bizarre visions of thunder and lightning came to mind. He shook the thought, and headed for Lt. Meleah's table.
"Lt., may I join you?..."

USS FEYNMAN: Women, Don't Ya Love 'Em?
by Kristen Gant 9-15-1996
Stardate: 80915.1001
Scene: Guest Quarters under guard
MD: 9.1600
Dee had slept through the battle. She'd not watched the destruction of the PHOENIX because she'd known that the FEYNMAN would not fail her. The PHOENIX would be destroyed. She knew that Tremaine was gone. When she had left the PHOENIX in search of the FEYNMAN, it wasn't to save 'poor' Krysa. She'd had her skin in mind with that decision. And things seemed to be going her way.
She'd spent the entire following day meditating on her next plan of action. Perhaps if she were to get close to the captain again .. no, she supposed she shouldn't press her luck. Being dropped at Epsilon incognito was really good enough. At least her enemies would not be able to find her with a whole knew persona. However she still needed one more thing to make her plan complete.
She decided she'd sat here in silence long enough. It was time to press her case. Besides, her natural curiosity was getting the better of her, and she wanted to know what was going on. Not to mention she had an appointment with a new face.
She went to the door and tapped on it gently. It slid open and she found herself standing face to face with a large Klingon. She tried her best smile but was unable to get anything but a glare from the man. "What do you want?" he asked gruffly.
"I think that it's time I spoke to the captain. I'm supposed to go to Sickbay soon."
"I've heard no such orders."
"Of course not," she chuckled, "Why would he tell you. Now be a nice lad and inform the Captain I need to speak to him now."
"I will tell him. But I won't guarantee that he'll want to speak to you." the Klingon stepped back and the door closed.
Dee grinned, "Maybe you won't, but I will," she smirked as she turned and went to the bedroom to make herself more presentable to the Captain.
MD 9.1700
Krysa had spent the last few hours visiting four crewmen who had family aboard either the REGENT or the SERAPIS. They had to be told in person, it was only right. She then wrote memo's to the rest of the crew reporting the loss. She knew she had not been alone in having friends aboard those ships.
After having sent out her messages, she headed to 10-forward. She was sure there would be people there once the news began to spread.
She entered and found Lt. Meleah sitting alone at a table. She headed to the table, "Hello, Lt. Do you mind if I join you?"
"Not at all, Lt. Jenn."
Krysa sat down, "How has your young charge been handling the being on the FEYNMAN, with you so busy?"
"She is doing well."
"I'm glad to hear that." Krysa eyes fell on the CEO sitting hunched over at the bar with a drink which looked very out of place for the Klingon. She knew he was partial to Betazoid liqueurs, and what he had definitely did not look Betazoid. "How long has he been over there like that?" she asked of the CSciO.
"Since I arrived."
"Perhaps I should go talk to him."
"I would advise against that, Lt. Klingons are not fond of being interrupted when they look like that." Krysa eyed the android. It looked as though she talked from experience.
"Yes, but it's not my style to sit back once curiosity has taken hold." She smiled lightly at the woman, and walked up behind the somber Klingon. Lt. Meleah followed, wanting to be there to administer medical aid immediately if it became necessary.
"Good evening, Lt."
In fact if you really want you can throw me across the room to prove your desire to be alone. But you what, I'd probably still come back. So you might as well get used to it."

> introducing me to the *pleasures* of Klingon Blood Wine. Care to try it?"
>
> Zane chuckled, "I don't think so, Krysa."
>
"Perhaps you would like milk or something else suitably....tame?"
Koreth asked with a straight face. Krysa was unable to remain as
impassive. Bat not being one to miss any embarrassing situations that did
not have him as the victim sauntered down the bar. "I can even heat it up
for you if you like."
"On second thought a glass of bloodwine would go down well."
In less than a second Bat had produced the largest wine glass Zane had ever seen and was happily beginning to fill it.
"You realize you must drink it without pause or you dishonour all the warriors before you." Koreth added as Jenn began to laugh.
Zane picked up the glass suspecting that Koreth was making it up. "Of course." He replied, deciding it was safest to play a long. He had drank Klingon Blood Wine once before, his first week in the Academy on a dare from his roommate. He'd been instantly sick. At least this time he was prepared for the worst. Draining the glass with an outwardly calm appearance, much to the surprise of his companions, he placed the glass back down on the counter. "Little weak isn't it?" He asked as all his being tried to keep the liquid death in his stomach. Perhaps after he left 10-Forward he would stop back at sickbay.
"Well Mr. Koreth it seems we're facing shoreleave again. Any plans?" Zane asked trying to keep his mind on anything but how he felt.
"None yet." The CEO replied, silently cursing the captain and his never ending quest to make the engineer relax.
"Good! I have something in mind for you."
Koreth cringed.
"How'd you like a crack at the Husnock ship?"
"Sir?" Koreth asked as Bat place the Terrellian Juice down in front of him.
"Well the scientists will be coming out of the wood-work to get a hold of that ship but as EPSILON is out in the boonies it'll take some time for them all to get out here. So with it sitting off the base and with us in port....." He let the idea hang as he took a large drink from the glass of water Bat had given him with a smirk.
"Well I have been going over the ships logs." Koreth added as he became lost in thought.
"Any plans for shoreleave sir?" Jenn asked as it became apparent that Tarrant's mind was drifting to the joys of the Husnock ship.
"Well I'll probably have a rather lengthy debrief with the Admiral and intel, have to get Mason's contacts in place etc and explain all the battle scars but other than that," he shrugged, " no not really. Maybe drop down to Cait for a few hours."
"Whats interesting on Cait?"
"I need a river." He replied with a sly grin.
Jenn laughed. "A river? What for?"
"Laundry." He replied even more enigmatically. Turning to survey the lounge he spied Ensign Allard trying to look inconspicious over in a corner. He would need to have a talk with the CSO about some security issues but nothing that counldn't wait. Besides Allard knew he and his department screwed up, the anticipation would be good for the young security man. It would help teach him patience.
"I'd need a shuttle or maybe even a runabout to take over all the equipment." Koreth was saying to himself.
"Okay I'll bite. Why are you going to be doing laundry in a river when the replicator can do it here?" Krysa asked.
"One of my holodeck programs requires me to wear ceremonial garb. The robes are considered sacred and must be washed in a river by hand."
Bat rolled his eyes. "Oh my God. You all really have too much time on your hands."
"Oh I see." Krysa replied trying to determine if Zane was pulling her leg.

Scene: To Sickbay
Dee looked thoughtfully at the commander as he led her to Sickbay. "You know what I think?"
"I'm sure you realize by now that I care little about what you think."
She chuckled, "Well, I suppose I deserve that."
Zane glared at her, and she knew he was thinking that she deserved far worse for what she'd done. Well, if things were different, perhaps she would be a different person. But after all, a girl needed to find a way to survive in this universe. Being a sort of mercenary worked for her, much as being a starship Captain worked for him.
"Really, Captain, I think 'dear Krysa' is rather lucky to have you watching out for her."
He gritted his teeth, hating the way she spoke about Krysa as though she was someone to be pitied. "I watch out for all my officers."
"Of course," she chuckled, "We couldn't show favoritism could we. Not that she would be worthy of your special attention at any rate."
She was goading him, but he refused to allow her to do so. And of course goading someone who isn't responsive soon loses its appeal. So they fell into silence as they continued onto Sickbay.
Upon reaching Sickbay, Zane quickly excused himself leaving her staring at the albino wolf. "I don't know what the Captain thinks he's doing by bowing to your demands, but I'm sure he has a good reason and I have promised to honor it." He growled.
She grinned, "Let's just say he'd rather not have me with 'dear Krysa's' face any longer then he has to."
"I'm sure Krysa feels the same way," Glin'kharr said.
Dee ignored the barb in his voice, "She just might, at that. How ironic."
Glin'kharr raised an eyebrow at her, then turned to his screen, "So who is?" he asked motioning at the face that appeared.
"She'd no one, Doctor. Just a face I dreamed up."
"Somehow I doubt that."
Dee smiled wryly and took a seat on the bio bed the doctor motioned to. Taking out his tricorder, he scanned her in preparation for the surgery. "You know .." he said, "You are putting yourself in my care. Anything could happen."
"Perhaps, but I know you starfleet types better then you know yourselves. I've been in a lot of minds, doctor. You won't break your captain's orders."
Scene: 10-forward
"I am sorry about Jared." Krysa said.
Koreth nodded, simply saying, "He was a friend."
"It's especially hard to lose a friend."
"I do not get close easily .. This is why."
Krysa looked at him thoughtfully, "I know. I think it's a mark of strength, Tarrant. A weak man would hide from friendships in order to save himself from exactly what you are feeling right now. But you .. you are a strong man, my friend."
"I don't feel so strong."
Krysa smiled warmly at the Klingon, "Of course not, but that's all a part of being strong. You have the strength to allow yourself to ~feel~."
Out of the corner of her eye she spotted Zane standing a short distance away. She smiled and motioned for him to join them. "Lt. Koreth was just introducing me to the *pleasures* of Klingon Blood Wine. Care to try it?"
Zane chuckled, "I don't think so, Krysa."

Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: Arrival at EPSILON

"What are your plans, Lt.?" Zane asked, tearing Krysa mind away from her vision of he tall Captain bending over a river doing laundry by hand.
"Umm, I hadn't really thought about it yet." She grinned at Zane, "Though I can pretty much guarantee you won't find me doing laundry at a river on Cait." She chuckled, as her earlier vision returned. She couldn't stop the grin that spread across her face, "Though I have to admit the idea of seeing you do it, has it's appeal."
Scene: Sickbay
Dee fought through the fog that buried her. She was going to kill that wolf if he screwed up. ~oops~ indeed!!
She felt a tickle at her neck and the fog cleared. She opened her eyes to see a Vulcan female staring down at her. "Where is he?" Dee choked.
"Who?" The Vulcan said innocently.
"That wolf!"
"Dr. Glin'kharr has other duties to attend to. Crewmen Klodd and O'gre will be taking you to your quarters soon."
Dee sat herself up, looking intently at the Vulcan, "Give me a mirror."
T'del had anticipated the woman's reaction, and immediately held out a small compact size mirror.
Dee looked at it with disdain. "This is the best you have!"
T'del nodded, "Yes, it is." Dee snatched it from the woman's had and carefully began looking at the face that peered back at her. "As you can see," continued T'del, "You no longer resemble Lt. Jenn. A fact which I'm sure will please her immensely."
Dee glared at the Vulcan doctor skewing her new face. "I can't tell anything with this little mirror." She turned to the two security guards ready to take her back, "Take me back to my quarters now."
The two men looked at the doctor who nodded. They then escorted her out of sickbay.
As they walked Dee checked her arms and hands looking for signs of the wolf's incompetence. She didn't feel any different, that at least was a good sign. But she wasn't sure she trusted that doctor. She would definitely have to be on guard for a while. Perhaps if she found her friend in Starfleet security .. yes, he was always willing to lend her a hand. That was how she'd gotten the job with the Greys in the first place.
Entering her quarters she rushed into the bathroom examining her face for signs of foul play. She smiled happily at the results. She was glad to see that the wolf had kept his promise. This was definitely the face she had chosen, though she would have preferred the wife of the Aldeberaan ambassador, this was almost as good.
She was glad that Starfleet had not yet found reason to file this face. That would make her transition much easier. She lightly fingered the hair on her head. Still the dark black waves that Jenn had. The hair definitely didn't go with the face, but it soon would. She would worry about her hair after she reached Epsilon.

Jenn sat at Ops as Jerran gracefully glided the FEYNMAN into its position at SB EPSILON. Now they would have a few days of Shore leave as the awaited their next assignment.
Scene: Guest Quarters.
Dee watched out the view port as the FEYNMAN arrived at EPSILON. She moved to the comm panel, "Computer, I need a voice only channel to the Captain." She said.
<Working.>
<Zane here.>
"Well, darling, it's time for me to be going. Call your guards off, so I can leave."
<You will be escorted off my ship, because I want to know for sure that you're gone.>
"Captain," she purred, "I can't believe after all we've been through together that you don't trust me."
<The guards will escort you to the transporter room. Zane out>
Dee shrugged with a grin. What Zane did didn't really matter. What did was that soon she would be off this ship and on her way to her next job. Zane had kept his part of the bargain as promised.
She moved to the door and tapped on it. The door opened. "Well, are you going to take me out of her or shall I go without you," she said as she headed down the hall. The two security guards hurried to catch up to her. They had received the Captain's orders just as she'd knocked at the door. They were to make sure she was off the ship.

"...so thats about it. Oh and I've got Allard squirming quite nicely over here." Zane and Maril shared a slight chuckle. "I know its cruel but maybe he'll learn by it."
[One would hope. But I look forward to 'discussing' away team protocols with him.] Maril replied looking quite comfortable in the Captain's chair of the Bat'leth.
"Well so far he seems to have down layed down the law for his department right down to shiny boots and collar pips...I may have to issue sunglasses." Zane laughed. "How's your report for the Admiral coming?"
[Flowed like the River Xerve.] Maril smiled knowing that it was unlikely Zane could say the same.
The Captain grunted and then broke into a mischievious grin. "You think Nicholas would notice a little low-key plagerism?"
[Like Locat in the sewer.] Maril laughed.
"As I thought. Well I guess I better get down to it. I'll see you on EPSILON. FEYNMAN out."
With Maril's face cleared from the terminal the Captain's report
came back into view. With a curse he began.

"Thank you Lieutenant. Good work all."
"Mr. Jerran have you made arrangements with the SILVERQM to replace ASIMOV?"
"Everything's taken care of." The FCO replied.
"I see. And how was my friend Commander Branno?"
"Well sir she doens't have any problem with the replacement." He asnwered truthfully. To a degree.
Zane paused in surprise, feeling a little miffed that Jerran had apparently had no trouble with the QM. Another example of the fact that she must simply hate him.
"Captain our guest would like to speak with you, audio only." The CSO announced.
Zane sighed. "Put her on."

USS FEYNMAN: Backpost Which I'm Too Lazy To Rewrite Right Now
by Max Felsher 9-17-1996
Since the battle, almost all of the damage had been repaired and the Bird of Prey was once again able to fly. Maril wondered where the shipwould go. He liked being the wind's master, but he missed the crew of the Feynman....
USS Feynman:Transporter Room 1
Maril blinked as he rematerialized. His eyes had adjusted to the dim light of the batlh 'etlh after more than two days. After a few seconds, though, his eyes cleared and he could see well once again.
MD 9.1010
Scene: Bridge
Ensign Allard focused intently on the tactical console and apparently did not notice Maril as he walked onto the Bridge. Lieutenant Jerran, though, gave a polite nod and Lt. Jenn grinned. "Back already, Commander?"
Maril smiled. "Yes, I just had to come back."
"So how was command of your own starship? Did you keep it intact?" Jenn quipped, glancing over to Jerran.
"Now, wait a minute-"
"It's alright, Lieutenant. You'll get your own command, far away from OPS officers who crash shuttles into asteroids," Maril winked as he headed into the ready room.
"You guys never forget," Jenn muttered good-naturedly.
Ready Room
"Ahhh, Commander, you have returned. Did you like the Bird of Prey?"
"It was...like when Triafo crossed the desert."
"I see. Are you planning to stay here or go back to the batlh 'etlh?"
"I was just going to check in with you and my office and then go back to the batlh 'etlh until we reach Epsilon."
"Very well. I'd like to discuss the repairs. There's also the question of promotions and discipline...."

NRPG: This is just to get things around Maril organized. For plotline purposes, Maril probably returned to the BoP around MD 9.1200 and will turn the batlh 'etlh over to Epsilon(as well as beam back to the Feynman) when we get there, which I believe is MD 10.0800(?)
Andy: Do you think presenting a Bird of Prey to the Quartermaster will make up for all those shuttles we lost at the Ring? ;)
Kristen: Counseling an angry Klingon. Wow! I never knew you were that risky (although trying to pilot a shuttlecraft in an asteroid belt was pretty risky<G> ha, I will never forget<evil laugh>and you thought I wouldn't remember about the dilithium map in the warp core of the Deleb IV station)
Jason: Being counseled by a non-telepathic Betazoid. Wow! I never knew you were that risky. <BG>
Melanie: Good judgement in not counseling an angry Klingon! (Why does it seem like all my commments are about Klingons?<BG>)
Joseph: Taking another ship's shuttlecraft and calling it your own. I never thought you were that criminal. (Tsk, tsk, tsk) <G>
Ted: And now you're out for revenge. Not good. ;)
Mike: Boy, are you in trouble. You know, I think you could use one of Maril's "warmhearted" conversations. As anyone can tell you, Maril is one of the most compassionate, understanding people they know. Right? <threatening glare>
Donna: I hope you can solve your RL problems and rejoin this merry crew! :)

Oh, I'll think of something. Probably swap it for a new set of shuttles with better armour.
Now the Husnock vessel . . . that has a long term mission written all over it.

"Well, Sir. I don't have any leave time accumulated yet, so I will be stuck at S.B.E. for the duration. I'll probably lock myself in the armory and do a complete weapons inventory." The CSO gave a crooked smile, but Meleah didn't react at all. Downing the last of his hard G&T, J.C. thought *Hmm, either the Lt. didn't get the joke, or I'm getting buzzed already*
"Ensign, there must be something more enjoyable for you to do on EPSILON." Justin squirmed uneasily and tried to make himself smaller in his chair as their C.O., Cmdr. Zane, walked by and waved on his way out of 10-F. Lt. Meleah tilted her head slightly in puzzlement. "Mr. Allard, are you feeling well, you look quite pale all of a sudden.
"Thank you, Sir. I'm fine. I keep hearing thunderstorms." Puzzled again, Meleah started to reply, but J.C. stopped her, "Never mind, Lt. Now that I think about it, maybe it WOULD be ideal for my health to spend some time on S.B.E., away from the FEYNMAN. Maybe I'll sign out a shuttle and explore one of Cait's moons. The ruins on Cait-III B has been gone over by hundreds of people, but they're still interesting to look at." He waved down one of Bat's associates for a refill, but decided on his usual Ssuriv juice instead of another Gin and Tonic.
"I didn't realize you were a Pilot, Ensign. Beyond academy basics, of course.". Meleah turned slightly to notice the doors to 10-F open as two Cadets entered. Cadet Kaz from the Flight Dept., and Cadet Hensley from security. They went up to the bar and took two seats. J.C. sipped his juice, strong, but not as potent as the G&T.
"Well, I haven't even been in a shuttle since a few months before graduation. It was more of a hobby than anything else. Maybe I'll pay a visit to S.B.E.'s CSO, see how a base security team operates compared to a ship-bound team." J.C. finished his juice in one gulp, setting the glass on the table. He stood, wobbling just slightly. "Sir, I apologize for taking up your time. I do thank you for talking to me, though."
"You are welcome, Mr. Allard. Perhaps myself and Cadence will see you on EPSILON. Good night, Ensign."
"Good night, Lt.", said J.C. Once on the lift, he changed his mind and headed for deck 15, the Security office. PO/3 Serteiv Ockiji, the asst. Watch officer was at the desk monitoring the internal security station and the now empty detention cells. J.C. grumbled a greeting to Ockiji, heading for his office. He passed the Squad Leaders' office, noting the door open and PO/2 Kori Matsumii busy at his desk with a report of some sort. J.C. grimaced, remembering the mound of reports and logs he had to deal with.
Reaching his office, he locked the door behind him, and fell into his chair. "Computer, message to all senior security staff; department meeting at 1000 hrs. in my office." The computer acknowledged. Swiveling to the console, he activated the monitor. 11 messages pending, in addition to all of the paperwork! *I've got to get this done*. Minutes later, J.C. was leaned back into the comforts of his chair and his dreams...

Zane handed the PADD back to the yeoman and sighed. They had been in dock for almost 45 minutes and he was itching to get to the debrief but the usual post-mission signatures where taking their toll on his plans. "Can I go now please yeoman?" He asked with a grin.
"Uh...yes sir...of course sir." She stammered nervously wondering why the Captain was asking her for permission.
"Thank-you." He spun around to face foward. "Lt. Jenn what bay did Docking Control assign Bat'lth to?"
"They've been put in a parking orbit outside the base. Apparently Captain Paxwax and his crew don't it want anywhere near the base until they've pronounced it safe."
Zane rolled his eyes. "Thats the problem with those intelligence types too paranoid. Ensign get me Commander Maril."
"Aye sir."
Seconds later the view of EPSILON's interior flashed to reveal the cramped bridge of the bird of prey. But instead of Commander Maril a nervous looking lieutenant junior grade was on the screen. Zane could just make out the back of the Tamarian's head in the background near, if he remembered correctly, the communications station. "Uh...I'm sorry sir but the Commander is currently occupied."
"Occupied with what?" Zane asked over the background of laughter coming from Maril's general direction.
"The press sir. As soon as we were within standard public communications range with EPSILON Commander Maril has had an almost endless press conference." The Lieutenant grinned proudly. "Everyone wants to here about our stealing the Bat'leth and capturing the Husnock ship. Sir."
"Oh I see. Well when the Commander has a moment tell him I am with the Admiral and that we are on a standby 24. FEYNMAN out." Zane turned to face Jenn looking somewhat dejected. "Lieutenant, you have the conn, call the relief team to the bridge and pass command to the OD. Make sure the crew knows their on limited 24 hour shoreleave until I see what the Admiral had planned for us."
"You think we might be heading straight out?" Jenn asked concerned. She was looking forward to a little relaxation.
"It'll take between 48 and 72 hours to resupply the ship so we'll be here for at least that long but with the situation they way it is..." He shrugged his shoulders.
Jenn nodded. Situation was a polite way of putting it.
The Captain pulled his PADD out of its armrest compartment and with a quick glance to make sure it had his debrief on it he stood. "If I'm needed I'll be on EPSILON with the Admiral. As soon as I know our status I'll let you and Commander Maril know...assuming of course he doesn't decide to leave StarFleet in pursuit of fame and fortune.

Scene: Turbolift, SB EPSILON
Zane stood silently in the turbolift going over his notes for the briefing, well trying to. He was distracted by what he had seen as he walked through the base. Normally it was a cheerful almost care-free environment. The dock workers bantering with each other, the decks bustling in a frenzy of activity, a sense of confidence prevading all. But this time, everyone seemed tense...unsure. AS he exited the lift into the Admiral's office the feeling remained as officer's and aides scurried around like ants whose hill had just been poked with a stick. Before he could even announce himself to the receptionist she spoke. "Go right in Commander, the Admiral has been waiting for you."
Despite his best efforts Zane began to feel some of the tension settle down upon him. He entered the office with the panoramic view. Without looking up from the screen Nicholas spoke. "Sit down Commander we have alot to discuss."

The bartender is the only one who pauses a second at the sight... but only for a second.
The destruction of two major Silver fleet vessels had caused many to stare out at the stars and wonder why and how. But those thoughts are quite the opposite of the person in question.

USS FEYNMAN: This Is Relaxing?
by Kristen Gant 9-23-1996
Stardate: 80923.1835
Scene: Holodeck
Krysa stepped through the door looking around at the holodeck program before her. It was simply beautiful. A large expansive cliff, with many tiny dark hollows stood before her. There was a lot of activity near the foot of the cliff and she could see large winged beasts winging their way through the air. She turned to see a rolling countryside behind her. Even though it was exactly how she had imagined it, she was still amazed at the clarity she was seeing.
She turned back to where the bustle of activity at the foot of the cliff was. Checking her outfit one last time, she made her way toward the crowds. She was surprised by a downdraft of wind and the loud fluttering of giant wings as a brilliant emerald green dragon lit down beside her.
<Where have you been, Krysa, I've been waiting for you?>
She looked with amazement at the beautiful creature in front of her. She had a slender snout and delicate looking folds of soft skin. <Makayla?>
<Who else?> Came the dragon's thoughts indignantly, <So are you going to tell me where you've been.>
<Just out for a walk,> Krysa said.
Suddenly the dragon's delicate head shot up, <Krysa, something's wrong.>
"What is it?" Krysa asked out loud.
<Paranth, Michel's dragon, he's frightened.>
"Why, Makayla?" Krysa was instantly on alert.
<Wraiths and Rogue Dragons!>
"Wraiths and rogue Dragons .." Krysa whispered her tension mounting, "We've got to help if we can."
Krysa awkwardly climbed up on the dragon's back, settling into the saddle which sat gracefully there. As Makayla go ready to fly, the pair saw many other dragon/rider pairs filling the sky to rush to Michel's aid.
<Alanth says we are not to leave the Warren, Krysa. He says we are to young and aren't ready.> Krysa could hear the disappointment in the dragon's thoughts.
<But you want to help Michel and Paranth, don't you?>
<Of course! Paranth is my hatchmate!>
<Then we shall go to,> Krysa wasn't running this program to sit back and watch the action unfold.
<I have the image, Krysa. I know where he is.>
Krysa watched as four dragons ahead of them disappeared. She knew that Makayla was planning on following them.
<Don't be afraid, Krysa. I have the image. Just picture it with me.> Suddenly the image flooded her head. She saw a large odd shaped rock jutting out of the granite. There was lots of smoke clouding her vision. She couldn't see though it. <Concentrate on the rock, Krysa. Concentrate on the rock.>
Krysa did as Makayla asked. She trusted the dragon's inborn instincts. <Let's do it!> She cried. Soon she and the green dragon were in the air. It was an exhilarating feeling. One she could never have imagined had she not experienced it for herself. She forced the image of the rock back into her head, and within seconds it was no longer an image in her head, it was a sight in front of her eyes. The dragon's teleport had been faster then a standard Starfleet transporter.
Krysa soon saw the four multicolored dragons which had disappeared a few moments before her as they blew red-hot flame at the smoky figures darting through the air.
<Let's go help, Makayla.>
<I can't flame, Krysa. I haven't learned how yet.>
Krysa about fainted, <Why didn't you tell me that before.>
<Because you know that,> said the dragon slightly surprised.
<You're right, of course,> Krysa conceded, after all she had written the program. <So what shall we do.>
<Let's get Michel. I see him. He's badly wounded>
<Where is he?>
<Right down there, can't you see him?> asked the dragon.
<No the smoke is to thick, I can't see anything down there. You'll have to lead the way. And try to avoid the bad guys.>
Makayla dove into the smoke. It stung Krysa's eyes and made them water. Now she was really blind. But Makayla wasn't having any trouble seeing where she was going, so Krysa just hung on tightly while the dragon dodged on her way to help the injured lad.
<I've called to Paranth, he's waiting for us.> said Makayla. Through her teary eyes Krysa could vaguely make out a maroon dragon trying furiously to keep the wraiths at a distance from the wounded Michel. Suddenly Makayla keened in pain and shifted course almost knocking Krysa from her saddle.
<My leg, Krysa. My leg!> screamed the frightened dragon.
<It's alright, Makayla.> Krysa soothed the young dragon. <I'll take care of you , but first we have to get Michel. Just keep heading toward Michel.>
Makayla turned quickly and bit down on the smoky figure of the wraith that was attacking her leg. She whipped her head and sent the smaller creature sailing into a rock. It crumpled as it fell to the ground. Then the emerald green dragon resumed her course toward Michel, very proud of herself.
Setting Krysa down on the ground near the wounded form, the dragon rose into the sky to help Paranth keep the Wraiths from getting close to their riders. Krysa hurried over to Michel. He was in bad shape. There was blood coming from a nasty cut on his eye, which was swollen shut.
"Michel, can you hear me?" she asked.
"Yes .. there's a .. rogue .."
"Shh, don't talk. We're going to get you out of here. Come on let me help you up."
She helped Michel up using all her weight. She was several inches shorter the dusty blonde boy she was helping and they were struggling, <Makayla, come here, hurry!> she called.
Before Makayla could arrive, Krysa saw a huge black dragon standing before her. He must have been at least twice the size of her small green dragon. An equally large man jumped down and grabbed her arm, pushing the wounded Michel to the ground. "I am Malk Bromitz. And you, my young rider, are going to get me a ticket out of this mess!"
Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: Someone Ask For Intrigue?
by Joseph Baker 9-24-1996
SD: 80924.0100 EST
MD: 10.2300
Scene: Main Promenade, SB EPSILON
"That oughta teach them to play poker with a Vulcan," Jennifer said laughing as she and Jerran walked out of the Monte Carlo style casino.
"Yes," Jerran said with a grin. "As my mother might say, it is highly illogical to play games where the object is to lie about the strength of your hand with a person from a race who have perfected the poker face to an art form."
They were both still wearing the James Bond outfits they had worn to the holodeck, a black tux for Jerran and a long red ball gown for Cartwright. She took hold of his arm as they strolled down the promenade and said, "Neither of us have to be on duty till late tomorrow afternoon. Why don't we go dance the night away?"
"Saounds good to me. Let's get a drink first, even Vulcans can get thirsty."
They stepped into a nearby bar which looked like something out of Casablanca, complete with a multi-armed pianist playing "A Kiss is but a Kiss." There was even a man in a white tux leaning against the bar who looked amazingly like Humphrey Bogart. Probably a clone, Jennifer thought as she and Jerran sat down at a secluded booth near the piano, or even an android.
Jerran ordered a couple glasses of Andorian blue chablis, which a snappily dressed Tellerite waiter brought and sat in front of them. They lifted their glasses as Jennifer smiled and said, "To succesful missions. May the FEYNMAN be feared and respected by her enemies."
Jerran gently touched his glass against hers, the sound of the minor collission drowned out by another song being played on the piano. He looked around for a moment after taking a sip of the chablis. The atmosphere was quite realistic, making Jerran wonder what it must have been like to live on Terra of the 1940's. Vulcan literature and entertainment lacked the intrigue and emotion Human ones have, except for those Pre-Surak works that have survived the ages. Those, on the other hand, make some of the more brutal Terran epic poems of Beowulf and Homer look like a romp through the garden in comparison.
His Bajoran half, though, didn't have that much in this genre either to draw upon. The Bajora had been great poets, thinkers, and navigators when the humans were still learning to walk upright. But, centuries of subjugation by such races as the Cardassians had made some of Bajor's best literary works disappear into the flames of war.
The Cardassians, for that matter, though, had plenty of works on the intrigue sort of genre. But, Jerran and many other non-Cardassians found them somewhat preditable, as all the characters in the story were usually guilty of some crime. Granted, though, the point was to figure out exactly what each character was guilty of.
But, it was the Terrans who had perfected the mystery, just as Vulcans had perfected the poker face.
"What are you thinking about, Terri?" Jennifer asked from behind her half empty glass.
"Oh, nothing," he said, downing his chablis. "Do you want to go for another run at Dr. O. No in the holosuite?"
"Sure," she said with a smile as she drank the last of her chablis as well.
<NRPG> Just another leasurely shoreleave at EPSILON :) I'd come and play with Krysa on the holodeck, but I've never read any of those Dragon books, so I'd probably end up turning it into a Puff the Magic Dragon story ;)

USS FEYNMAN: Shore Leave
by Andrew Catterick 9-24-1996
SD: 80924.0900
Scene: SB EPSILON amusement park
TimeFrame: After Zane's meeting with the Admiral
Zane walked through the milling crowds of the amusement deck slowly, deep in thought. It had been a long meeting with Admiral Nicholas and he was glad to be out in the 'open'. Even the Admiral's large office had seemed cramped after so much time there and he found the sounds and smells of the amusement park a nice distraction that was helping him unwind a little after being faced with the weight of command perhaps more than ever. Much had happened to SILVER while FEYNMAN had been in the 'sack and soon they would find themselves right in the thick of things trying to get to the bottom of a very large very, deadly mystery. It was not that the Captain thought his ship and his crew were not up to it. Truth be known he felt better that they had been tapped for it, weren't they the best ship in the Fleet? But it would be dangerous and no commander willingly put his crew in harm's way without some trepidation.
*But* he thought as a smile crossed his lips, *we've got the knack for turning diversity into advantage.* And he laughed as he remembered Krsya on the bridge struggling against the pirate who held her screaming, "Unhand me you pig!" Not the most threatening thing she had ever said but certainly one of the most memorable.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sense that all good starship
Captain's have when something had gone wrong. Looking up to the corner
of the deck he noticed a small flashing security light. Whatever it was
security had been summouned. He increased his pace and followed the
lights in the direction of the problem.
>
> "I'll use what I can get," he replied, holding Cadence closely. The child
> watched Meleah with absolute faith, and Meleah began to wish that her maker
> hadn't given her an emotion program. It would be so much simpler if emotion
> didn't get in the way. "I've been waiting for this for a long time. What
> would your new commanding officer think if he knew about your past?"
>
> "He knows," came Zane's voice from somewhere in the crowd. As much as that
> startled Meleah, she didn't turn around but kept her eyes on her opponent.
> Zane continued, "Let the girl go."
>
> "No!" But for a few seconds Kierran was distracted. Meleah quickly covered
> the space between her and Kierran, wrestled his weapon out of his hand, and
> freed Cadence. Aiming the phaser back at Kierran, she stated calmly, "You
> have no say in the matter."
>
> Security had been called by that time, and two officers stepped forward to
> take him away. Zane came up to Meleah. "Can you please inform me as to
> what happened here?"
>
> Meleah filled him in as they walked back to the ship. Zane's expression
> didn't seem to change during the explanation, and when Meleah finished, he
> was silent for a few moments.
>
It sounded like this Commander Kierran was a prime candidate for
GREY Fleet. Although Zane favoured him being completely drummed out of
the service. After his experiences with Tremaine he wondered at the logic
of putting unstable but competent officers all in one place.
"I'm sorry you and Cadence had to go through that Lieutenant." Zane said as he watched the girl. Her curiousity was slowly getting the better of her fear as she started to focus on everything around her. Fortunately she wasn't old enough to have really understood what had happened and with the resilience of childhood it was quickly being forgotten. Or so Zane hoped. Either way he knew she was lucky to have Meleah.
"I am too sir. I thought this would be behind me, that EPSILON would be a new start."
"It is Lieutenant. You just had a bit of a bump is all. And don't worry I'll make sure that *Mr.* Kierran will not bother either of you again." He purposefully dropped his military title. "Besides he got off very lucky. We both know that with your reflexes and strength you could have hurt him very badly. If I had been in your place I don't know if I could have displayed such restraint."
<<<NRPG>>>
Mike Dawe: Hope I didn't make our meeting sound too ominous!
All: Just a reminder, once Mike RPs our mission we'll probably be heading out soon after...did I get you interested;)
Respectfully,

USS FEYNMAN: Press Conference and Conversation
by Max Felsher 9-24-1996

"Approaching Starbase Epsilon," the Tactical officer reported. He continued,
"There are several small journalistic ships between us and the Starbase."
"Continue on course. Send out a general broadcast."
"You're on, sir."
"This is Lieutenant Commander Onta Maril in command of the Bird of Prey batlh 'etlh. Please leave our course to the Starbase. You may question us when we get there."
Suddenly, an excited face appeared on the viewscreen. [Mr. Maril, I'd like to have an interview with you and your crew. Please, we'll even-]
[No, we're getting the interview! You will grant us one, won't you, Mr. Maril?] Another face had appeared.
Maril signaled for the comm signal to be closed. "Is there any other way to get to the Starbase?"
"No, sir, we're completely blocked off."
"Very well. All stop. General broadcast again."
"I have reached a decision. All who wish to may beam over for a press conference. However, we will head for the Starbase at 1000 hours, so be prepared for the conference to end then."
MD 10.0815
"Commander, why again did you fire on the Grey Fleet ships?"
"I have already answered that. The Grey Fleet was working covertly and they fired first. We were simply defending ourselves."
"Then you do disagree with the Grey Fleet's actions?"
"I have no comment on that matter."
"Mr. Maril, what is Admiral Nicholas's position on the battle?"
"I don't know; you'll have to ask him yourself."
"Could you tell us again how you captured the Bird of Prey?"
Maril smiled. "Well, what happened was that we were infiltrating a pirate base, and...."
MD 10.1200
First Officer's Office
Maril calmly sifted through all of his mail, and finished up the paperwork to be done. Except for his brief visit the day before, Maril hadn't been on the Feynman in over four days.
He was glad to be done with the press conference. He was almost as tired as Jelpo after leading his troops into battle.
Sighing, Maril tapped his communicator. He would have to discipline an officer. Though some of the other officers thought that he loved doling out discipline, it really was not something that made him happy. However, it was necessary.
"Maril to Allard. Please report to my office immediately."
[Aye, sir.]
While he waited for Allard to walk in, Maril did some research. "Computer, give me all information about lightning and thunder." Maril didn't know why; he just had an urge to research the two of those.
The door beeped before he could really read anything, but Maril saved it for later. "Enter."
Ensign Allard stepped through the doors and up to the desk. He stood stiffly at attention, his body as straight as an arrow. "You wanted to see me, sir."
"Yes, Mr. Allard." Maril walked over to the replicator in his office, with Allard still at attention. "Centaurian tea, hot."
The white cup of black tea materialized and Maril took it. He walked all the way over to his chair again and sat down before he finally said, "At ease, Mr. Allard."
Allard relaxed his position slightly and waited for Maril to start.
"Now, Ensign, I am sure as Chief of Security, you are concerned with order. After all, that's part of the definition. It's sort of hard to keep good security without some kind of order. Am I correct in my assessment?" Maril took a sip of tea.
"Yes, sir, you are."
"Then I don't have to give you the lecture about the chain of command. I'm sure you got that one at the Academy, and I am also sure that you understand why the chain of command is necessary. Am I correct in this assessment as well?" Maril took another sip.
"Yes, sir."
"Good. What I don't understand is how you can deliberately leave the away team without orders, on your own whim, and without even telling me or anyone else on the away team what you're doing. Do you know how much that affects the mission?"
"Yes, sir, I do."
"I'm not so sure that you do, Ensign, or you wouldn't have done that. Besides the obvious fact that I don't know where you are, I have to be worried about what you're doing, and that I then have to go search for you, there are other, more subtle consequences. One, the crew loses the advice of a senior officer and they lose self-esteem from the loss of a crewmember. Two, the crew loses confidence in me because I let you get away or because they think you must have had a good reason to run off. Three, other crewmembers think that they can do the same thing, and get away with it. Do you see how there is a whole seed in the desert process here?" He took another, longer drink of the tea.
"I understand, sir."
"Very well. The Captain and I have not decided how to act, but be sure that we will. Dismissed."
Allard turned on his heel and quickly marched out the door.
Maril drank the last of the Centaurian tea. It was very good tea.

*Is it just me, or do the corridors seem like dark earthen cave walls* J.C. shook the thought, half expecting a troll or some such creature to jump out and attack. He made a hasty retreat from Maril's Office to the lift. Once in the turbo lift, the request for a destination from the ship's computer sparked quite a few 'unofficial' replies, but the CSO just mumbled his quarters instead.
* Well, not bad for my first mission as CSO. I get wounded, the Captain breaks General Order 25, I get charged with desertion, and will spend the rest of my career washing windows.* J.C. thought back to the time right after graduation from ALB, when he received the orders from VADM Crowell sending him to EPSILON, and the from VADM Nicholas cutting him to the FEYNMAN. Who knew how these people would react. Who knew their expectations, personalities, individual quirks? *You learned real quick this time, J.C.* Except for Bat the barkeep, and Alex his ACSO, everyone was still almost a stranger.
The lift opened to Deck 5, and J.C. wasted no time getting to his quarters. Once in, he quickly shed his uniform in record time, slamming it into the trash recycler. Once into more comfortable jeans and his favorite cardigan, J.C. fell into the overstuffed chair in the living area. Looking over at the nearby table, J.C. saw his comm badge and Starfleet ID in its case for off-duty use. He picked up his comm badge, turning it over in his hands several times.
"Computer, access subspace mail. Send a message to Vice Admiral Azariah Nicholas CINCSILVER, and foreword copies to Captain Zane and Cmdr. Maril. Sirs; as of today, Stardate 80923, I, Ensign Justin Christopher Michael Allard hereby re.." the computer's error bleep sounded, interrupting J.C.
"Warning, standard procedure involving recorded messages precludes sending new messages before pending new messages are read. This will avoid the.."...
"Shut Up, computer! I know procedure. I didn't know I had incoming mail.", J.C. shouted to the computer's disembodied personality. "PLEASE display all new messages." Getting up from the comforts of his chair, the desk console came to life, displaying the headers of the two messages, one from his best friend at ALB, the other from his Grandmother stationed at Deep Space 5. He took a seat at the desk. It had been over two months since he had seen Grayen, and over a year since seeing his Grandmother.
"Computer, display message from Ens. Karris first.", the computer responded instantly.

RE: GREETINGS
Hi JC! It has been a long time since we last communicated. So, how are things?
We are now docked at SB Omega for repair after an exciting mission. The YORKTOWN would have been destroyed on several occasions if it isn't for the highly skilled and professional crew.
I was injured during a perimeter defense. It would be a while before I can run again. :) I got your last letter, wow! What a coincidence, we're both injured.)
And also to my dismay I had my first taste of blood. I had no choice, it was either me or them. The enemy kept coming at me and my mission was to defend the area so obviously I had to kill. But it was no satisfaction. It was like craving pieces of your life away. I could see in their eyes that they were as scared as I was. Even the thought of it now makes me feel sad.
Anyway...
Before my next mission begin my team and I are running tests on the weapon systems. A few days ago we have found out a neat way to increase the power of the photon charge by 1.2%. Details of which will be sent to your personal archive.
Well, that's it for this time, hope to hear from you soon.
Bye.

RE: Best of times
Hello, Justin Dear. I apologize for not writing back to you for so long, but Captain Desjardins and myself have been swamped. The new XO, Cdr. Sanders, is a nice girl from Sarona VIII, has never been posted to a station. If that's not enough, my OPS. Department has been overrun! Shipping here in the Beta Quadrant has almost doubled in the last 3 months. The Captain's put in several requests for more staff, but... technology has not done away with red tape, I fear. You would like both of them, Justin. By the way, your Grandfather sends his love. He's trying to open a small cafeteria on the commerce deck, in addition to the antique shop, which is always busy. Oh well, enough about life on DS5.
Justin, the pride in our hearts for you is growing more every year. Everyone Tim meets, he brags about you being the CSO on the FEYNMAN and your brother Brandon being in his third year at M.C.U. I also brag, but not as forcefully as Tim does. Sometimes your Grandfather babbles on and on, like always. Some things never change.
I received a letter from Kevin last week. He's doing great at Wilmington, and has some big news for you, too, but I won't spoil his surprise. He sends his love, and say Benjamin misses you, too. He goes to your room and whines some nights.
I know you'll do fine on the FEYNMAN. I met VADM Nicholas years ago at a training seminar at SFHQ. In those days, he was a Captain and I was a LtJg. While I don't know your CO personally, I've heard good comments about him. Learn from him, Justin. Learn from anyone you can, both their successes and failures.
You know you will always have our love, and spirits in your heart, and we wish the best for you, our 'youngest Admiral in the fleet' to-be. Take care, Justin, for you these are the Best of times, and the Worst of Times...
Love,
Grandma

*How true, Grandma, how true* J.C. swallowed, hard. He wiped the dampness from his eye. "Computer, save this message also.". He stared at the screen for several minutes, before closing it and turning it off. Once changed into a clean, new uniform, J.C. looked into the mirror, making sure everything was academy-sharp. On his way out, J.C. stopped at the table where his ID and comm badge lay. He picked up the badge, holding it tightly for a few moments. *No, not yet,* he thought to himself. Pinning it onto his uniform, J.C. headed for the Security Office and the mounds of paperwork to finish once and for all.

Maril, seemingly contemplating as never nothing for an XO to do on a starship, but on occasion, Maril liked to give the illusion. Reaching the doors of Holodeck 1, Maril was about to enter. However, when he moced up to the large doorway, they didn't open. Realizing that the holodeck was in use, he checked the program and the user.
<This holodeck is now in use by Lieutenant Krysa Jenn with a fantasy program.>
Maril raised what most people would call an eyebrow. However, since he had no facial hair whatsoever, eyebrow was just a generalization for that area of his forehead. In fact, the gesture itself was something Maril had learned--Tamarians did not raise their "eyebrows" when intrigued.
"Computer, door open."
The holodeck doors opened onto a beautiful view. Apparently, he was on a mountain. From this spot, he could see for many kilometers--or was it miles--in every direction.
As he heard the holodeck doors close behind him, Maril heard another sound--a scream. A screech, coming closer. Maril turned to find a rather large bright red...thing,...like a...what was it?...oh, yes, a dragon of Earth's mythology.
No time for reviewing his foreign mythology though. He could see that this dragon that was getting very close had sharp teeth and curving talons. In addition, he thought he remembered something about fire....
Stumbling back, his foot caught on something and he fell flat on his back. Regaining his composure as the dragon was now less than 100 meters away, he examined what he had tripped on. A beautifully carved piece of gold, straight down but very ornate....
A sword! Of course! Maril wrenched the rest of the rather heavy weapon out of the ground. Standing up, he brought the long sword up in front of himself, ready for the red dragon's strike.
He didn't need it. At the last second, the dragon wheeled out of the way. <You need not fear me,> Maril heard a message in his head.
"Who are you?" Maril asked, still wary.
<I am Yikata, the Wise One, as my tribe calls me. This sword which you hold is called the Stikor. It belonged to my great-grandfather, Ebzelo, another Wise One, who was able to change his shape into human form. No being has ever been able to hold it before you. I will allow you to mount me, as you are obviously a being of some power.>
Maril still didn't trust this dragon, but he realized it might be prudent to have an ally here, even if this was on the holodeck. So, with some effort, Maril pulled himself onto the dragon, still keeping the sword, Stikor, out and ready.
As Yikata took off, Maril found this was a totally new experience. Of course, he didn't have much to compare this to--about the closest was flying in a shuttle. Still, he hadn't expected the buffeting of the air, or the unique perspective this viewpoint gave.
"So," Maril started. "Could you tell me more about yourself?"
<Very well. This area has been dragon land for many millennia. Only recently did men even venture here. They do not dare do much, though, for the dragon resistance is much too strong.>
"So, there are very few humans here?"
<That is correct. Each tribe of dragons roams a huge area of land, and sometimes sea, as a tribe of dragons takes a great toll on the surrounding land.>
"It sounds very convenient. What about you yourself?"
<I am getting to that. As I said, my great-grandfather was a Wise one, as were his ancestors, as were his descendants, as am I. The title is passed down from eldest to eldest. Of course, when my great-grandfather was alive, the humans were only a group of villagers along the seacoasts. Creatures ruled.>
"How long ago *was* that?"
<Approximately 22,000 years ago.>
"And how old are you?"
<Two thousand, three hundred, and forty two years old.>
Maril was astounded. "And how old is that, for dragons?"
<I am entering middle age, but I am the oldest of my tribe. Wise ones usually are.>
"Egabo when he first saw the sky...."
The dragon's eyes shifted warily, seemingly contemplating Maril's last metaphor.
"Never mind, dragon. I speak in metaphors."
<Ahh, I see. At any rate, to finish my story, I have gathered many potions and spells over my life. Recently, a group of Rogue Dragons have attempted to take over our roaming grounds. Unfortunately, most of our warriors died around 100 years ago. Most of our member are less than 300 years old and inexperienced.>
"It seems it will probably be a hard battle."
<Yes, but the Rogues lack the benefit of magic, which we have. We also have a being which has taken Stikor from the ground, and in order to do that, you must be formidable.>
Maril was about to answer to the contrary, but Yitaka stopped him.
<Here is our home cave. Our Dragonlord is there.>
Without warning, the red dragon swooped down. Maril thought that they would crash, but as they neared the ground, Yitaka slowed his descent, and landed in front of another dragon.
This dragon was even larger than Yitaka, but obviously much younger. He was a light blue and held his shoulders up high. There was no mistaking this for anyone but the Dragonlord.
<Lord Alanth, I have returned.>
<And who is this rider? I thought you let no one ride you.> Alanth's booming voice was very different from Yitaka's slow, wise voice.
<I made an exception. This rider drew Stikor from its resting place.>
Alanth raised an eyebrow. Again, that gesture--it seemed to be almost universal. <Very well. Perhaps he will be useful in the ensuing battle. Wraiths and Rogue Dragons are attacking. We need your magic, Wise One. I am heading for the battle site.> With that, the mighty dragon pushed himself up into the air. That was definitely a strong dragon.
<Now, I must gather my potions,> Yitaka told Maril.
The dragon and his rider headed into a small cavern off the main cave. It held shelves and shelves of potions and books--Yitaka was a Wise One.
<Sleep,> Yitaka sent as he picked up one potion and put it in a satchel. <Confusion. Invisibility, for us, of course, not them. Stun. Cold. Do you notice my glasses?>
Maril craned his neck and looked at the dragon's eyes. They, were, indeed, covered by glasses. Maril nodded.
<They allow me to focus on one creature and cast certain spells which I have memorized. They are one of my most prized possessions.>
Maril could only nod quietly.
<There. I have all my potions that I will use. Let me see if I can summon a view of the battle in this mirror.>
Maril watched the mirror. Suddenly, it changed to the battle. Alanth was just about to fly onto the scene.
<I must take myself there immediately.>
Maril felt a wave of dizziness and, when he opened his eyes again, they wer above the raging battle.

I loved it, Max :):):) It wouldn't fit in the DL RPG which I took the
original scenario from, but this is so cool. Gotta love the holodeck!

USS FEYNMAN: What's Next?
by Kristen Gant 9-26-1996
Stardate: 80926.0923
Scene: Krysa's Holodeck
Krysa laughed at the man in front of her. "Your ticket's just been canceled!" She thought that it didn't quite match the quality of her 'unhand me, you pig,' remark, but it would do. She rushed the man, surprising him completely, and knocking him off balance. She stood poised for his attack as he stood, casually brushing the dirt of his clothes. Right then, watching his confident advance on her, she couldn't help but wish this program came with phasers.
Malk chuckled, "Did you really think that would be enough to stop me, little girl."
"I didn't want to stop you, just throw you off guard," Krysa said confidently, though she wasn't sure she could avoid him again. She had no weapons and this man was twice her size. Right now she was thinking that it might have been a good idea if she and Makayla had listened to Alanth's words, and stayed at home.
<We had to help Paranth.> Came Makayla's calm reply.
<So why don't you get over here and help me now or we'll never be able to help him.>
<I can't. His dragon won't give me room to take off.>
Krysa threw a quick glance toward the large black dragon who was towering over the much smaller Makayla and Paranth, effectively keeping them on the ground. She heard Malk's booming laughter as she spun her head back to look at him, "See the baby dragon will be of no help to you."
"No! Well, perhaps I will!" came a bellowing roar behind Krysa. Krysa smiled, she didn't need to turn around to see who had come to her rescue, she recognized the voice.
<Krysa, the great Yitaka has come to our rescue,> came Makayla's voice in her head again, <And he brings a great warrior.>
"You are in trouble now, Malk Bromitz," she smirked. "Do you know who that is?"
Malk growled turning his attention from her to the odd looking form behind her. "What are you?" he growled.
"This is the great Warrior, Onta Maril," said Krysa, loving the turn this had taken.
"He's not human." Said the villain with a wrinkled nose.
"No, I'm not, I'm Tamarian." said Onta. He pulled the sword from it's scabbard and took a stance between Krysa and Malk.
Malk took a step back, "Stikor!" said the man in awe, "You have the sword Stikor."
"Yes, I do. And I am prepared to use it against you."
Malk narrowed his eyes, "This is not over! I will return and I will prevail." The man turned to his Dragon who moved to meet him. The large man stepped up onto the dragons back and took off. Soon the wraiths also began to disappear. Leaving only the fighting dragons from Keldarra.
Krysa stepped up to Onta, "So where's your shining armor?" She grinned. Onta's answer was drowned out by the roar of the Dragonlord Alanth. Who settled down behind them shaking his head and roaring at the two young dragons.
<Alanth is very mad at me, Krysa.> came the young dragon's plaintive cry. <He says we should have stayed where we were told.
<He's probably right, but it was kinda fun.> chuckled Krysa. She stopped laughing when the Dragonlord swung around and faced her and Onta.
<You, human, could have killed my daughter! This was not a game! I told her to stay at the Warren, yet you bring her here!>
"Please, I beg your forgiveness, great Alanth," said Krysa humbly. "I was only trying to help." The dragon held her gaze for a moment, then turned his head to Onta.
<You are a great warrior. We thank you for your help.>
"I didn't do much. He saw the sword and ran."
The dragon nodded, <Yes, Stikor strikes fear in the hearts of rogues. I've no doubt this is only the beginning and that in the end Stikor will not be enough. Wraiths working with Rogue dragons is not a good sign. Those vile creature care only for what they can devour, particularly dragon flesh. Why would they join with Rogue dragons? Come let's return. There is much to discuss.>
The large dragon took off leaving the two starfleet officers watching him. Krysa's smile returned as she looked at Onta, "I'm so glad you could join me."
"So what is going to happen next?"
"Well, I'm not entirely sure. Though most likely we will return to find their home under attack by more wraiths. There is a great battle going on between the dragons dominion, and those that have been banished. Somehow the rogues have gained the help of the dragons most hated enemy, the wraiths."
"This is your program and you don't know exactly what to expect?" asked Onta.
"Well, I only put in the guidelines of the world. So pretty much anything can happen," she said grinning.
Regards,
Lt. Krysa Jenn

USS FEYNMAN: I'm Back
by Donna Hurley 9-26-1996
SD: 80926
Scene: SB EPSILON
Anna was just starting what was supposed to be a relaxing shore leave when she was approached by two Bajorans.
"Excuse Me, Ms. Lee, I'm Ryna Itre and this is my assistant Muji John, we're from the Bajoran Freedom News and I was wondering if we could ask you a few questions."
Anna recognized the name right away, The Bajoran Freedom News, a news program available in Bajor, known for its attacks on everything except the Bajoran people and Bajor itself. The program was especially known for its negative views on the Federation and Starfleet.
"Were you not able to attend the press conference?" asked Anna.
"Oh, we were, but we are more interested in you and your role in Starfleet." replied the Ryna.
"It's just that we've done research and we thought a story about you would be more interesting." said the assistant. "I mean considering the fact that as a Bajoran Cadet in Starfleet, you were once convicted of aiding the Maquis. We have concluded that your were not actually guilty but that the human-run so called Federation assumed you were guilty because of the fact you are a Bajoran."
"That is NOT true" stated Anna in a louder voice then she normally used.
"Are you saying you were guilty?" asked Ryna.
"No. I was and still am innocent. The fact I was convicted had nothing to do with race. At the trial, several on the jury as well as the judge happened to be Bajoran. The Federation and Starfleet are not human-run. As a non-human Starfleet officer once said "The United Federation of Planets is based on a simple but important idea: Diversity, indeed diversity makes up the very fabric of the Federation, which is essentially an amalgamation of different worlds, races, and cultures." This officer went on to say that the federation worlds are bound together by " awareness, respect and trust". I would add that this diversity also makes up Starfleet and is a great benefit to Starfleet as Starfleet officers also have awareness, respect and trust of one other." stated Anna.
"Then in your opinion, why were you convicted?" inquired the assistant.
"It was simply a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time." Answered Anna and adding silently to herself, sort of like right now. "I have no further comments." Anna quickly walked off and jumped into the nearest turbolift trying to get as far away from those reporters as possible.
Scene: USS FEYNMAN: Lee Anna's quaters
Anna had gotten tired of avoiding those two reporters and saying "no comment" so she returned to her quatres and began the book she had bought during her short time on Epsilon, "Trinity" by Leon Uris.
To take a break from her reading, Anna decided to catch some of the news.
"Computer are there any local Federation News broadcast programs on?"
[Negative]
"All right, then computer have a recording of the latest local Federation news program sent to the terminal in my quatres"
Anna watched the recording, one of the top stories was the Feynman's last mission. After the story on the mission itself, the news reporter went on to mention that a Bajoran News Station had done a story on a related issue. What followed was the showing of the complete "interview" Anna had with the two Bajoran Freedom News reporters plus a commentary but the reporter Ryna Itre. Ryna's commentary was basically that Lee Anna was just saying what she had been told by the Federation. Then the news went back to the Federation reporter who did another commentary stating that this particular Bajoran News program was an extremist group and did not reflect the opinions of all of Bajor which was followed by interviews with randomly selected Bajorans.
By the time the news finally went onto another story, Anna was becoming quite angry at the "Bajoran Free News" (especially Ryna Itre) and the fact that a Federation News Station would actually have covered it. Must have been a slow news day! Lee Anna decided to calm down by going to a holodeck to relax, taking her skates with her.
Scene: USS FEYNMAN: Holodeck
Anna went into one of the empty holodecks and ran one of her favourite programs, Skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa Ontario, Canada.
NRPG:
Finally! A post from me!! Hope I didn't bore anyone too much.
I didn't want to have Anna enter into anyone's holodeck program since I'm still catching up on where everyone is. If anyone wants to join Anna skating, that would be great.
If shore leave has ended and I'm just not that caught up yet then consider this a backpost.

USS FEYNMAN: Relaxation?
by Andrew Catterick 9-27-1996
SD: 80927.1000
Scene: Deckway, near holodeck
Commander Bat Durensten (ret'd), bartender extrodinaire waddled down the deck in his wadders and carrying his tackle box and rod cursing to himself and anyone that passed by. Even though he was not an active member of the crew, 25 years as a CSO had conditioned him to the point that you don't relax until the mission was over. As far as he was concerned during a mission his duty station was 10-Forward. As long as the FEYNMAN was embroiled in a mission he would be there to see to it that the crew were comfortable and as stress free as possible. But once the mission was over it was his time, not, he thought with a string of colourful language, time to waste serving a gaggle of rude, nosy journalists.
They had charged aboard the second the gantry ways had locked into place and having found that Commander Zane had snuck off (Bat would be having words with the Captain over that one) they had resigned themselves to mingling in 10-Forward sampling, well actullay devouring, everything in sight compliments of USS FEYNMAN and SILVER Fleet. Bat being a good, albeit not exactly polite, host had stayed until the majority had left. No point in letting his junior staff get swamped and there was always the hope that one of the slimey reporters would have tried something inappriorate with one of his servers and he would get to forcibly eject someone. Unfortunately they had behaved themselves and Bat had had to amuse himself with some well placed insults. It just wasn't the same as tossing some out the doors.
But the reporters gone he quickly raced towards his meeting with some trout. It never occured to him that since he was two hours late someone else might have decided to take advantage of an open holodeck. Even when he strode through the doors and came upon a wilderness scene that he had not programmed he did not take notice. There was a river just down the hill and all he knew was river equals fish. Feeling much better that he was actually here he began to hum his trademark tune.
Thirty minutes later the now happy bartender was waist deep in water and concentrating on a small school of fish. It wasn't until the dark shadow past over him and began to hover that he realized something was wrong. Bat had always been a voracious reader and while science fiction was his genre of choice he had read enough fantasy to know a dragon when he saw it, especially one that was about to spew flames. With not even a second to spare the ex-security officer and soon to be tasty morsel dropped to the river bed and pushed off with all his might. There could only be one culprit and as he broke the surface and gasped for air he screamed one word. "Krysa!!"

Can't let you guys have all the fun.

USS FEYNMAN: The New Mission
by Mike Dawe 9-27-1996
SD: 80927
The Feynman Captain was swiftly admitted to the Admirals office. He had received the notice about the third ship loss the day before and was not surprised to see a haggard Nicholas banging on a PADD while yelling orders into a comm.
"Look, do what you can but I need facilities for the survivors. Get McDaniels and company to pull their heads out of the clouds and set up a very large triage and emergency shelter. I need a second team to be ready to lift to recover the Tesla pods."
[Lift in what?]
"You tell me. With the Falcon out rescuing the Regent we need a ship to take them there. It will have to be large enough . . . " he waved for the Captain to sit. "to carry the emergency crews and a full rescue team to see if anything survived on planet."
[Is that all?]
"Don't get smart, just find me a big ship." He closed the channel and turned to find the Captain smiling and deep in thought.
"Hrrmph, well then I received your reports and I think your mission went even better than I might have hoped. We have managed to push the Greys back and you made some inroads in the Pirate situation. Well done Captain."
"I think we may have also done something else . . . we might be able to solve your transportation problem." Zane nodded.
"No, the Feynman has a mission that cannot wait for you to ferry the rescue teams."
"I was not referring to the Feynman but the 'prize' we brought back with us."
The Admirals eyes widened at the audacity of the suggestion. Actually two prizes had been brought back but only one would qualify for the job ahead. "Your suggesting we send a vessel whose capabilities we do not even know out on a rescue operation?"
"The Husnock vessel is large enough and ven has an auditorium that could double as a triage staging base. I have had a skeleton crew working it who could be put on detached duty until your crews are more familiar with the ship. But I will insist upon keeping my command staff."
The Admiral snorted. "Afraid I'll steal them away?"
"Word gets around."
"As it should. OK. So we take your crew, a chancy vessel and send it to the site of the Tesla destruction. Want to know where you will be in the meantime? I expected you might. You also heard about the destruction of the Serapis? Her logs have been recovered from the emergency buoy and this was what they showed. . . "
Cut to the view of a standard starship running smoothly. Then from behind it came.
The dark ship came swiftly into view and showed incredible maneuverability as it made the first pass past the Serapis. Before shields could be raised or even before the bridge crew could react a series of blasts raked the hull of the vessel. All hails ignored the second pass was even more devastating than the first and power losses crippled the ability of the federation ship to mount any sort of defence, let alone anything even resembling a counter attack.
Zane listened to the damage reports with an air of fatality. He knew what the reports would say, he could feel the ship dying bebeath him. With a heavy heart he ordered the evacuation of the ship. Life pods started to eject from the crippled vessel and jet off into the endless night. Some were intercepted and destroyed by the malevolent ship while others escaped its notice. It seemed to be scanning each as it could before firing or letting them pass. A blue beam enveloped the dying Serapis, another deep scan. It was looking for something. Moment later the third volley from the ship fininshed the job and the once proud member of the Silver fleet was an expanding cloud of debris . . . nothing more.
The log ended and the room was silent for a moment. "I don't recognize the ship." Zane ventured.
"Nobody has, yet. I want you to take your ship out and do a detailed forensic scan of the debris field. We need information. That ship looked like it was looking for something, it was viscious and direct. I want to know if we have a new border to defend or if this was a one time occurance. Now hear this and hear it good, Captain. You are investigating, you may follow up any leads but do not, DO NOT engage any vessels. The Feynman is not a warship, but its sensor suite makes it perfect as a investigations ship. Questions?"
Of course there were many, on both sides and the meeting went on for hours. The Admiral briefed Zane on what the Serapis mission had been and took details on the Husnock vessel. Orders were sent out for the transfer of personel and the Husnock vessel was clear before the meeting even ended.
<<<nrpg>>> Right, that tags one thread for future reference and starts a new one. Zane (Andy) will be getting the serapis mission under a seperate cover and will trim it to fit what he tells you (his choice, its the only way to keep a mutinous crew in line)

SD: 80927.2200
MD: -000001.00 (or something like that)
SCENE: Security Section, J.C.'s office.
Breathing a sigh of relief, J.C. hit the enter key, for the last time. Gripping the edge of the desk, he gave a slight push to send himself and his chair rolling away from the desk. Standing up, he stretched the muscles that had been inactive for the last five hours while he replied to his mail, reviewed 119 logs, 14 incident reports, 3 inventory reports from the armory, 9 crew evaluations, 4 crewmen put on report by their NCO's. Those he sent to Cdr. Maril, who would either deal with them, or send them to the Captain's Mast. At least ALL the paperwork in Security was 100% up to date. Now they were ready for the challenge of whatever mission VADM Nicholas would send them on.
J.C. headed out of the office, passing the watch officer's desk, manned by PO3 Micah Hicks and Cadet Hensley. "Good night, gentlemen. You should have a...", but the CSO stopped, for the two were not watching the monitors and status boards, but a portable holo-vid unit on the side desk. As soon as he said something, they snapped around, stunned and mouths hanging open.
"Attention on DECK!", J.C. raised his voice, not to a shout, but loud enough to make the point. He slowly moved around the desk.
Hicks started to speak up, "Mr. Allard, we.."
"Belay that, Hicks! You're at attention. Yes, we are docked. Yes, there's little chance anything will happen while we're here at EPSILON, but this post in manned for a reason, Mr. Hicks." J.C. slid down the top on the holo-vid unit, turning it off and closing it.
"I know that, Sir.", said Hicks. Hensley, standing rigid, said nothing.
"I'm not sure you do. Everyone from the Captain to the other security officers on patrol count on you to provide instant information in an emergency. You think we're safe, here at S.B.E. Well, anything could happen. Remember the Borg incident back in 2367. That could happen here, to. We're not exactly in home system. Anything could happen in space. And on a starship, anyone and everyone's lives could depend on anyone at any time." J.C. moved the holo-vid unit over, and sat on the edge of the desk. He turned to face Cadet Shane Hensley.
"Cadet, I'm disappointed in you. But more so in you, Mr. Hicks. In any chain of command, the senior officer or NCO is ALWAYS responsible for the actions of those under his command. When they mess up, he messes up. And that person should definitely set a good example. At ease, you may speak." J.C. folded his arms.
Hensley looked over to Micah Hicks. Hicks spoke up, "Sir, we were docked, it's almost ship's 'night', and we though viewing the holo-vid the Cadet had purchased at EPSILON wouldn't be of any harm. I had just logged the check-ins from all patrols, and checked in myself with the bridge." J.C. had seen a brief glimpse of the holo-vid before he had shut it off. He had not see anything that exotic since that weekend after graduation they guys spent on Risa. Cadet Hensley cleared his throat, and softly spoke up,"Sir. I'm sorry. I..."
"I know what time it is, and I know your reasons, but that offers no excuse. Cadet, you're relieved for the rest of your shift. Rest up, tomorrow you'll be inventorying the armory, by yourself. I won't put anything in your record, as I said, Mr. Hicks was responsible for your actions. Consider this a learning experience, Shane. Dismissed."
"Yes, Sir. I mean Aye, Sir." he fled out of the room.
*Gosh, I didn't mean to terrorize the poor kid* J.C. turned to Micah. "And you, Micah. You've been on the FEYNMAN for 5 months. You should know the regs. by now, regardless if we're docked or not. You're on report. My compliments will go to Cdr. Maril, then it's up to him. Micah, I expect better from now on."
"Aye, Sir. Again, I apologize". J.C. nodded, then left. Well, so much for a quiet night.
~~SNIP~~
SCENE: Commerce Deck, S.B.E.
After an overstuffed dinner of spicy chicken and rice, J.C. tried to walk the bloated feeling off. Around the corner, he came to one of the Holodeck centers. Number 3 was empty, and Justin had an interesting idea to try. "Computer, new program. Access all information on John Hawkins and Francis Drake from earth's 17th century. Two wooden frigates. Create crews on each, cross reference the FEYNMAN'S roster. I will command the British ship, Defiant. Use the security dept. roster as my crew as British Naval Officers. Use the FEYNMAN senior staff to crew the PIRATE ship. I'll need a Rapier as my weapon." J.C. smiled to himself. Ever since their 'covert' pirate mission, he'd been fascinated with 16th and 17th century earth piracy.
"Program ready, enter when ready.", droned the different voice of EPSILON'S computer. This was going to be fun. He approached the doors, they swooshed open. J.C. stopped. "Oh, also computer, make me an Admiral..."

USS FEYNMAN: Holosetup (The Meeting)
by Jason Bostjancic 9-27-1996
The holodeck project had kept Tarrant busy during most of his free time. (At least that which he spent between the Feynman and the Husnock ship.) Cmdr. Zane had told him that it was his turn create the setting for their next big meeting. Many ideas ran through the CEO's mind as prospective locations... eventually though he decided to stick with an Earth theme. After a little research his choice was easily made.
"Computer.. run program Tarrant Alpha One"
<Program is already in progress>
Tarrant was surprised. Who could be playing around with his program. But all attempts at finding out were thwarted. Finally he gave up and entered.
The 'public bath' was a fairly small structure, lit by torches. White pillars, adorned with magnificent sculpted art, separated assorted stalls where the command crew would change into the appropriate garb. Entering one would automatically replicate the outfit for the person. As an added touch he had the room adorned with busts of the command crew.
"And now..." said Tarrant to nobody in particular as he stepped into a stall, "the final test."
The small door behind him shut and made a particularly unpleasant locking sound. The white robe and accessories replicated themselves on a hook. But when Tarrant attempted to figure out how the items were to be worn he found it was quite a mystery, and would probably be so to his guests.
"Computer, provide a holographic image of each stall's current occupant as they enter, approx 1/3 actual size, wearing garments exact to those replicated."
The image of himself emerged wearing the outfit.
"Computer, have it rotate on a z-axis, 0.2 radians per second."
The image began turning, and gave a perfect view of how the belt, toga, and headpiece were to be worn. Along with the optional short sword.
As soon as the outfit was complete the door behind him unlocked and opened, revealing brilliant sunlight. As he walked out, Tarrant found himself surrounded by cheers as thousands of people looked down at him from the colosseum's seats. The 'theator' had no roof, as white pillars formed the circle around which the seats were placed, allowing a great view of the center oval which was primarily dirt.
A line of horses were lined up to the left with attachments behind them. A pair walked up to his location, pulling what the computer had called a chariot. As he was examining the rather dangerous contraption a figure rose in the stands and quieted the masses.
Looking up, Tarrant tried to figure why they were so quiet. A growl from a newly opened door signaled why. Two great tigers emerged, blinded temporarily by the sunlight. They were absolutely huge, over twice the size of a normal man. What's worse, Tarrant hadn't programed them.
All faces were turned towards what was obviously the emperor's box. As they waited the command.
"RIDE... or DIE!" shouted the figure in a particularly familiar voice.
"Um.. computer? Are the holodeck safties..." he didn't finish.
One of the cats spotted Tarrant and began leaping toward him. Causing the second to follow. Quickly, the CEO jumped on to the chariot, grabbed the reins, and rushed off. The tigers were in close pursuit, and the crowd cheered..
Twice around the circle he went before yet another door opened. Tarrant barely maneuvered the chariot into the right direction as the tigers lept around him, always barely missing. He had just entered when the stone mass slammed shut, barely stopping the great cats.
"Welcome Citizen Koreth." The greeting was echoed in unison by a woman and man who both seemed to be wearing 'smaller' versions of his toga. "Congratulations on your win."
Tarrant finally caught his breath, as a voice started laughing uncontrollably from further in the chamber.
"Win? That's not what I call it, it was luck!" Said Bat between chuckles as he emerged. "Computer.. Lights, 80%"
"You.. how did... nevermind." The CEO knew the old bartender was good, but was surprised that he was already there.
The same white pillar setting made up the room, with a huge stone table and chairs in the center. In fact, Bat had already set up his buffet with some rather unusual items. One of which he picked up and handed to Tarrant,
"It's a gyro, Mr. Koreth. It was the best I could do on Greek cuisine on such short notice." he motioned to a flight of steps which Tarrant hadn't included originally. "I made a few little additions."
Tarrant followed the old bartender up and found himself in a private box in the stands. The view was perfect. And in the same location as the voice from earlier.
"Oh, and as far as the computer knows, I am the emperor," Bat smirked then shouted, "RIDE.. or DIE!"
<NRPG>
A little different than our usual, a little more 'interactive'.
Remember, your CEO will make sure that the crew will have little chance to just voice edit the scenario.. (Then again Zane does have over-ride access ;) )
The safeties *are* on. And the two 'receptionists' will take those who make it to Bat's private box where all can wait and watch <G>
Have fun.
Respectfully,
Jason
