Notes:

The DILIGENT class escort was built with the intention of replacing the
aging THUNDERBOLT/DEFIANT spaceframe with a newer, more modern design.
However, the design incorporates everything that made the DEFIANT
spaceframe a success: relatively small, highly maneuverable and, above
all, possessing sharp teeth.

DILIGENT, while somewhat bigger than her THUNDERBOLT cousin, remains
small compared to her other ships of her class.  The extra space allows
her to carry a full platoon of Marines and more cargo storage, which
will give the DILIGENT a somewhat longer teather from which to roam.

DILIGENT's main selling point, as with the THUNDERBOLT, is her impressive
array of weapons.  She retains the pulse phasers as her main weapon, but
upgrades them to the longer-ranged Type XIa.  Her secondary phaser arrays
also were upgraded to the newer Type XI.  Finally, her torpedoes not only
got an upgrade to the Mark III flux torpedoes, but also got an extra
tube, pointing aft.  However, though possessing upgraded shields and
ablative armor covering her ceramic hull, there is no room for a reasonable
point defense system on DILIGENT.

The DILIGENT spans 12 decks; though no science labs of any value are to
be found on this warship, there is plenty of space for its officers and
crew to maintain normal quarters, as opposed to the cramped 'hot-bunking'
style of the THUNDERBOLT.


Creator's Notes:

Obviously, I started with THUNDERBOLT for this one.  However, Ed's design
seemed a little bulkier- like a taller, larger cousin.  So I expanded the
decks and sizing some.

I did not put point defense in here, though I suppose that we could always
put it in.  I left the weaponry package almost the same aside from the
fact that they type was upgraded.
