> "Captain we're approaching the SERAPIS' location." Jerran<br>
> announced from the helm.<br>
><br>
> "Secure from warp, ahead full impulse."<br>
><br>
> "Full impulse aye." The FCO replied as his fingers danced across<br>
> his board.<br>
><br>
> Zane spun in his chair to face tactical. "Lt. Allard?"<br>
><br>
> "Sensors show no other ships in the vicinity. I am picking up a<br>
> large debris field at 325 mark 78."<br>
><br>
> Zane spun back. "Lt. Jenn?"<br>
><br>
> "No unknown readings. Bringing the DELPHI Array to bear. All<br>
> sensor gathering systems online."<br>
><br>
> "ETA Mr. Jerran?" Commander Maril asked.<br>
><br>
> "Seventeen minutes to the edge of the debris field."<br>
><br>
> "Hold at 1000 km." The XO ordered.<br>
><br>
> "Ok people lets get to work."<br>
J.C. hit the comm panel, "Bridge to SCPO Tamarov".
"Tamarov here, Sir" replied the aCSO. "Just like we planned, Mr.
Tamarov," ordered J.C. "Level 2 security alert. Have all of the squad
commanders double the patrols, heavily armed. Extra teams in all
sensitive areas around the clock, including here on the bridge. No
surprises this mission, Mr. Tamarov."
"Understood, Sir. Tamarov out." Too many things had gone wrong last
mission, too many surprises. And J.C. didn't like surprises. Moments
later, two officers appeared on the bridge, armed with rifle in hand and
sidearm holstered. CPO T'Boc and PO1 Jerry Jonas came to attention. J.C.
nodded them on their way, and they took their positions at opposite
sides of the bridge, where they would have a clear view of anything and
anyone. J.C. mentally pictured similar teams appearing in engineering,
the shuttle bay, and other key areas. They would be ready this time.
> > >Jerran raised an eyebrow and said, somewhat disbelieving himself, "Yes,<br>
> > sir." He then turned to the OPS station and said, "Care to join me, LT<br>
> > Jenn? I could use a decent copilot on the NOGURA."<br>
> ><br>
> > "Only if you promise not to get yourself knocked out this time?" she grinned.<br>
> ><br>
> > He nodded with a chuckle and the two stood and headed for the turbo lift on<br>
> > their way to the shuttle bay<br>
> ><br>
> > "Be careful," she heard Zane say as they walked by him.<br>
> ><br>
> > "Oh course, sir," said Jerran. Krysa met Zane's eyes briefly and nodded<br>
> > before following Jerran into the turbo lift<br>
><br>
> The first officer looked over to the captain and smiled. "Those<br>
> two together in one shuttle..."<br>
><br>
> Zane chuckled. "I know."<br>
><br>
> "Perhaps we should move the ship a little farther away from the<br>
> debris." Maril offered. Zane just smiled in response before turning back<br>
> towards the view screen to watch the debris slow spin by. It was an eerie<br>
> sight.<br>
"All shuttles away sir." Allard announced.
> "On screen." Zane ordered. The magnified debris field flashed to<br>
> glinting reflections of light from near by stars as the four FEYNMAN<br>
> shuttles came into view. Almost immediately the lead shuttle, NOGURA,<br>
> launched itself into a tight series of barrel rolls. Zane looked over at<br>
> Maril who gave him an 'I told you so' look.<br>
><br>
> "Helm plot a course that circles the debris field, 1/2 impulse."<br>
><br>
> "Half impulse aye."<br>
"Captain, I recommend we launch a series of Class-7 long-range probes.
Combine with the Delphi, and our shuttle teams, this should cover almost
the entire sector."
LCDR Maril turned, "Lt., wouldn't the probes be redundant of the
shuttles?", asked the XO.
"Not really, Sir. The shuttles will be concentrating on the immediate
area of the salvage site and surrounding area. The long-range probes
will actually extend the range of the Delphi array. In essence, an
'early-warning' system for us, Sirs." Maril turned to Zane, who nodded.
"Make it so, Mr. Allard" said Zane.
"Aye, Sir. Six probes loaded....and launched. We've traded speed for
extra sensitivity, so they're only traveling at .25 impulse. Optimum
distance in approx. 8 minutes, Sir."
"Very well, Lt." said Maril. J.C. kept a constant watch on the
shuttles. The slightest hint of danger and he would tractor them back to
the FEYNMAN. He took a deep breath. While the other departments took an
active role in missions such as this, his department endured the endless
waiting for something to happen, only to react to the unexpected. He had
temporarily sent his three Cadets to aid LT. Meleah's department, where
he thought they would do the most good.
He eyed Jonas and T'Boc. Jerry Jonas, a Terran, was wiping the barrel
of his rifle. T'Boc was glaring at some unknown point straight ahead,
with the expressionless look Vulcan's have when in deep thought. J.C.
sighed, and called up the systems diagnostics for the weapons controls
for the third time this shift....

...Just a little input from J.C. and company. Don't worry about T'Boc
and Jonas. They won't shoot you... for now. <G>
