Introduction

This file contains information relevant to the Alt.StarFleet.RPG game universe and is intended to provide information for the players of that game. This is in no way an attempt to create a comprehensive list of ships from any of the TV series or movies.

Naming Conventions

The naming conventions for the major classes of ships in Federation service are listed below (work in progress).

Battleship BB

  • Zeus- Greek gods, demigods, and heros.

Command Battlecruiser CBC

  • Bastion- Defensive formation or famous fortresses.
  • Solar- Stellar phenomena.
  • Valhalla- Norse mythology.

Battlecruiser BC

  • Agamemnon- Mytho-historical and mythical heroes, kings, people, and creatures.
  • Circe- Mytho-historical witches, wizards, sorcerers, sorceresses.
  • Wasp- Insects of the suborden Apocrita of the order Hymenoptera.

Heavy Cruiser CA

  • Goto- ASR player who's been recognized special honors in the RT.
  • Fearless- "Classic" British naval ships.
  • Kirov- "Classic" Russian naval ships by name or class.
  • Yasuragi- Ships of the Nihon Kaigun (Imperial Japanese Navy) of WWII or Names from Japanese myth and history.
  • Brilliance- All acceptions of the word, as concepts of excellence, majesty and brightness.
  • Cayuga- Proudly named after historical Constitution-class ships.
  • Dragonfly- Species of Anisopteran insects (or primitive antecessors), ancient exploration rotor drones, or mythological creatures according to the Oddissey, ideally Cyclopes for the Cyclops Dragonfly and more general Ulysses related characters for the Ulysses Dragonfly type.
  • Hipparkhos- Famous astronomers and space explorers.

Light Cruiser CL

  • Europa- Solar System moons.
  • Mercy- Famous Doctors in History.
  • Hiryu- Ships of the Nihon Kaigun (Imperial Japanese Navy) of WWII or Names from Japanese myth and history.
  • Katana- Sword types.
  • Montu- Egyptian deities.
  • Storm- Weather-related phenomena.
  • Wanderlust- The concept of going out and exploring and famous historical scientific explorers in Federation planets.
  • Adventure- The concept of adventuring and famous fictional adventurers in Federation planets.
  • Argos- The mythological ship 'Argos' and her crew, the argonauts.
  • Assembly- The concept of reunion or rejoining.
  • Pampa- Native American tribes of the Plains of South America.
  • Zendal- Famous female nurses and doctors.

Escort Carrier CVE

  • Bogue- Bold names fitting an excort ship.
  • Kronstadt- Famous uprisings or insurgents.

Destroyer DD

  • Coventry- British cities.
  • Tesla- Scientists and mathematicians.
  • Tsyklon- Famous early Terran spacecraft.
  • Scorpio- Scorpiones and arachnids with tails or pincers

Escort Destroyer DE

  • Diligent- Bold names fitting an excort ship.
  • Thunderbolt- Names of power.

Frigate FF

  • Virginia- Ancient states and territories on the North American continent.
  • Sentinel- Jobs and positions related to guarding or exploring.
  • Archer II- Historical Saladin-class ships.
  • Coral Reef- Important coral reefs and places near them all throughout the Federation.
  • Fraternity- Abstract, positive concepts of union and collaboration, or famous scientific expeditions.
  • Relentless- "Classic" ship names of the past, preferably from the Royal Navy.
  • Stingray- Fish like stingrays, sharks and other similar.


Retired classes (probably stil in service but no longer in production)

Heavy Cruiser CA

  • Caesar Augustus- Military leaders.
  • Endeavour- "Classic" British or American naval ships, battles, captains, or admirals or after ships of the GALAXY class.

Light Cruiser CL

  • Hippocrates- People associated with the medical professions, preferably doctors from ancient times.
  • Discovery- "Classic" British or American naval ships, battles, captains, or admirals.
  • Hood- "Classic" British or American naval ships, battles, captains, or admirals in the wet-navy of Earth.

Destroyer DD

  • Feynman- Scientists and mathematicians.
  • Franklin- Cities.
  • Nightingale- People related to medicine.
  • Thunderbolt- Aircraft, especially fighters of WWII.
  • William Mitchell- Famous military officers.

Frigate FF

  • Asgard- Norse mythological names.
  • Charon- Jovian satellites / Shakesperian characters.
