III. Biographical Notes
=======================

Michael was born into a family with strong ties to Starfleet. His father was a 
civilian military strategist with Starfleet Command and avid historian and thus 
Michael grew up hearing stories of the Romulan war and the tactics employed by 
both sides. His mother was a Starfleet Medical Officer and was the inspiration for 
him to join up with all the unique races she’s met and introduced her children 
too. His father often had taught him the basis for ethical conduct in life in 
dealing with both humans and other races . At the age of 12 his father took him to 
see the Henry Archer Museum in Sausalito California. 

Michael’s first taste of influence with other species came when he was 14. While 
at a field trip to the Discovery Park Cultural Center. A Trio of young men, a few 
years older than him were taunting and picking on a young Orion Boy about the same 
age or younger than Michael himself.

The ethics his father instilled in him rose to the occasion and he stepped into the 
fray. He asked if he could get in on it. The boys not knowing what young Mike had 
planned gave him the approval to join the fracas.

Mike took on all four boys that were hassling the young Orion

Broken, bleeding, bruised but still standing he helped the young Orion boy back to 
the class room as they began heading for the shuttle. Watching all of it this was 
a young Starfleet Captain named Matthew Hunter, the Captain of the Pathfinder. It 
was there Michael had found a benefactor to make sure he made his way to the academy.

He was disciplined the next day by his school but was given a citation for bravery 
by the local Junior ROTC Starfleet for coming to the aide of the young Orion.

His mother treated him for his injuries and for the first time in his life, his 
father was proud of him. The Orion remained his closest friend thru the rest of their 
schooling. The day he came to the Orion’s aide he was called “Iron.” for standing up 
against those with superior abilities and refusing to back down. The same daring 
tenacity helped him in his schoolwork. He wasn’t a genius by any standards but when it 
counted he asked for help despite his father’s teachings.

At age 18 with Captain Hunter’s sponsorship and his parent’s blessings he entered 
Starfleet Academy.
