IV. OFFICIAL STAR FLEET RECORD

Gallamites are known for their enlarged brains that result in high intelligence
and a natural scientific aptitude. Tanith Phan exemplifies these traits - as well
as a few others less accepted in her culture.
Like most Gallamites she was good at mathematics. Unlike most Gallamites she found
the number crunching extremely boring.
She became a scientist - while reading Horatio Hornblower novels. It was a sad day
for young Tanith when she learned the Hornblower was actually a piece of Terran
fiction.
But there were real Hornblowers around called Starfleet officers and so Tanith
applied for the Academy.
She hadn't trouble getting into science an specialized on mathematics and exobiology,
figuring the latter skill would get her more away team duty, while spending her free
times on the really interesting things such as phaser ranges, high velocity chases
and tactical simulations.
Her favorite holo-simulations involved the early days of Starfleet and historical
heroes like Jonathan Archer and James T. Kirk as well as the heroes of the second
generation - De Soto, Riker, John Brooks, Cayle Veld and Molly Sharpe
Tanith actually enjoyed an encounter with a group of down-on-their-luck Orions on
Carellia. Tanith and her away team were investigating reported mutations among the
native Carellian power cats. The Orions we stranded there after a crash and considered
it a good idea to take Starfleet hostages to negotiate a ship and a safe passage for
themselves -notwithstanding the fact that the people in a nearby settlement would
have helped them anyway, had they only asked.
According to Tanith it wasn't very difficult to outwit the Orions (one could have
guessed, read above) but she "enjoyed the diversion". Although the real threat rating
of the Orions was dubious at best, the incident marked Tanith Phan as command
potential and paved her way to become first OPS on the USS SOJOURNER and later XO
on the ROENTGEN Research Station.
Tanith had hoped for a command of her own next but being XO again on the first ship
to travel deep into Bode´s Galaxy isn't a throw away either.
Horatio Hornblower was never that close.

Fun-loving, adventurous and mischievous, a misfit in Gallamite society, an imp
with an IQ of 200+, at times she irritated her colleagues and superiors to say the
least with statements like she would skip a promotion to participate in a real,
old-fashioned armed conflict for once. Given her impish attitude it is difficult to
say if that was just a joke or if Tanith´s view of wars is really to romantic for
her own (and other peoples) good.
