B.    Background Summary

The following was written by a fellow physician, Dr. Jared Whiting, as Abby was being 
considered for the command of the USS Phoenix, a post she held briefly before retiring.

Abby Patrick is an Earth-born human female, approaching thirty
years of age. She's a slender 5'7", has fair skin and blue eyes
and usually has long red hair, which she usually has pulled back
in a braid or somesuch. She was bald recently, but her hair has
since grown back.

Without going into too much detail, Abby's career in Starfleet
started with her assignment to the USS Sigma as counselor; this
assignment began shortly after she graduated with honors from
Starfleet Medical. Abby served with distinction aboard the Sigma, and
served briefly as the FO of the USS Valiant before it was
destroyed in battle.

It took a brief while for Dr. Patrick to work her way back to 
Federation space after the destruction of the Valiant. On her way,
she tangled briefly with Orion slavers and won a shapeshifting
bartender his freedom in a poker game. She married her sweetheart,
JT Montana, who then promptly disappeared into the ether and is
presumed dead. It is not clear whether the honeymoon was in any way
a catalyst for his untimely departure.

While waiting reassignment with Starfleet, Abby ran into the
redoubtable Hunter Thorpe in Admiral Jack's waiting room (well,
he actually threw a chair at her, but these things happen). With
the admiral indisposed after his encounter with Thorpe, and thus
not assigning Dr. Patrick to a post anytime soon, she accompanied
Mr. Thorpe as first officer on a shakedown of the Saigon Mistress,
a Klingon Bird of Prey. (Don't ask.) Many things happened. Abby also
served as CMO on the USS Phoenix before it was destroyed in a bit of
nasty sabotage.

Post-sabotage, Abby took refuge in the new time/dimension/universe
by working in a bar on a backwater planet called N'Rax, eventually
winning the bar in yet another poker game. (Never bluff the good
doctor.) She shaved her head in a bid to not look like a hooker (it's
a long story), discovered her new circumstances, her chance renewed
at finding her long-lost husband, and had almost escaped prison and a
certain death sentence when Hunter Thorpe stepped in and fouled everything up.

Despite Mr. Thorpe's best efforts, they managed to escape and find
their way to SSE1 where Abby was posted to the USS Pasteur as ACMO
and then CMO.

I don't have any fancy psychological references to give on Abby.
She's a great doctor, cares deeply about her patients, and has a
wicked sense of humor. She has established herself well in command
situations; her style is creative and highly participative. Since she
is a physician, she tends to look for non-combative solutions first, 
which makes her an excellent choice to captain a Galaxy-class vessel.

Right now she finds herself a bit confused, romantically: technically,
she -might- still be married to the long-lost JT, and she is fiercely
loyal to his memory. However, since JT's misfortune she has found herself 
attracted to other men, feels guilty about it, and is unable to make a 
deep commitment to anyone. She has recently acknowledged to herself that 
she feels too strongly about Thorpe, which is useless, since of course 
he is still carrying a torch for his wife.

Abby Patrick has a smart mouth, depends on her wits extensively, 
and knows all the -real- words to "Louie, Louie."
