<b>NOTE: While the billets of Probationary Agent (AG-1) and Probationary Specialist (SP-1) share the same grade level and core supervisory responsibilities, they differ in the professional and functional duties these roles are expected to perform. This section details the functions of the AG-1, while those of the SP-1 are entirely focused on the nature of the technical field of the individual.</b><br>
<b><i>*SFSECIS recognizes the use of force is a critical aspect of law enforcement, and as such, SAs will be required to exercise sound judgment and discretion when determining the appropriate level of force in the apprehension of suspects. The Service follows strict guidelines for the minimal use of force, prioritizing de-escalation techniques and non-lethal alternatives whenever possible. However, in situations where the safety of yourself or others is at risk, the use of lethal force may be necessary as a last resort, in accordance with the Star Fleet Uniform Code of Military Justice shall be authorized as a necessary last resort.</i></b><br>
*PAs are the initial grade in front line entry-level roles, and as such they will be mentored by more seasoned agents and supervisors. While Probationary Agents in this grade have thus far demonstrated professional excellence in the classroom, they must continue that educational process in real world field work and develop them into the progressive career pathways of the SFSECIS.<br>
*Accountable to the respective supervising agent and Bureau Chief for timely and accurate closing of 75% or more of cases assigned. A positive closure is identified as any outcome from JAG and/or a Military Judge that is not dismissed due to an investigative error on behalf of the Agent.<br>
<b>Under the direction and guidance of a Senior Agent (AG-3) or above, the Probationary Agent:</b>
*Collaborates with other Star Fleet, Federation and local law enforcement agencies to resolve cases. Provides reciprocal assistance to other agencies when requested (as permitted under SFUCMJ).<br>
*Communicates and shares case file information (under security/classification protocols) with the assigned supervising agent, Bureau Chief, JAG and other relevant stakeholders as required by regulations.<br>
*Creates timely and comprehensive investigative reports, case file summaries, courts-martial and other JAG-related documents as required. Submits qualified documents to supervising agent, Bureau Chief, ADD, JAG and relevant Star Fleet component unit commanding officers as required.<br>
*Exercises extreme caution in transporting service members under arrest and/or confinement, using professional judgment in the application of physical and electronic restraint systems.<br>
*Maintains strict confidentiality of all investigative activities and protects the integrity of case files and evidence at all times. Exercises and implements SFSECIS confidentiality classification protocols on all documentation, either physical or digital in nature.<br>
*Manages continuing education to prepare for internal advancement; stays up do date with new investigative techniques and technologies and incorporates them into assigned duties.<br>
*May be assigned a subordinate role in Protective Service Details.<br>
*May sign official correspondence, release general administrative documents and service component messages needed to accomplish investigative and operational matters, and intelligence reporting only to the extent necessary to accomplish effective management of the area of responsibility and which does not call for the signature of the supervising agent.<br>
*Provides professional, expert testimony in courts-martials, in Federation Courts or in planetary government courts. Works closely with Judge Advocate General staff to build strong cases against suspects.<br>
*Will advise and inform in a collaborative effort among colleagues to ensure seamless integration across all Field Office/Support Division units to maximize the successful implementation of our core missions.<br>

Consults with the supervising agent on all significant policy matters relevant to the operations within this unit.<br>

Engages contributor-level communications, internally and externally, to advise and inform relevant stakeholders.<br>
Monitors the utilization of resources allocated to the unit to ensure maximum operational effectiveness against SFSECIS priorities and the Services’ Strategic Vision.<br>
Regularly informs the supervising agent on all personnel decisions and administrative matters pertaining to this unit and squad as required.</div><br>
