BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
==================
Allen McDonald suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, with his
particular fixation on the number '3' and any of its multiples.
However, as with many people who have OCD, this is NOT his only
obsession, but rather his most prominent.  This obession revolving
around the number '3' and its multiples will 'trump' any other
obsession or phobia, and will assert himself into his regular daily
activities.  As a reult, he typically does some of the following
things:
- Orders three rounds of simulations on the same theory or 3
rounds of tests on the same piece of software or
hardware;
- Orders enough food and drink at his meals so that his meal
settings- utensils, plates and bowls, cups, etc.-
equal some multiple of three.  He frequently does
not eat all of what he orders- this accounts for his
low weight;
- Washes his body three times in the morning- once with hot
water to wake him up, once with the sonic shower for
cleanliness reasons, and once to make three;
- Runs three kilometers daily.

The manner in which the comulsion manifests itself in his life is not
limited to the above; those are simply examples of 'typical' Allen
McDonald behavior.

MISCELLENEOUS NOTES
===================
According to the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation, OCD is defined as:

"Worries, doubts, superstitious beliefs all are common in
everyday life. However, when they become so excessive such as
hours of hand washing or make no sense at all such as driving
around and around the block to check that an accident didn't
occur then a diagnosis of OCD is made. In OCD, it is as though
the brain gets stuck on a particular thought or urge and just
can't let go. People with OCD often say the symptoms feel like
a case of mental hiccups that won't go away. OCD is a medical
brain disorder that causes problems in information processing.
It is not your fault or the result of a "weak" or unstable
personality."

"Before the arrival of modern medications and cognitive behavior
therapy, OCD was generally thought to be untreatable. Most
people with OCD continued to suffer, despite years of
ineffective psychotherapy. Today, luckily, treatment can help
most people with OCD. Although OCD is usually completely curable
only in some individuals, most people achieve meaningful and
long-term symptom relief with comprehensive treatment."

Some common obsessions of those suffering from OCD are:

Common Obsessions: Common Compulsions:
------------------ -------------------
Contamination fears Washing
of germs, dirt, etc.

Imagining having Repeating

Intrusive sexual Touching

Excessive religious Counting
or moral doubt
Forbidden thoughts Ordering/arranging
A need to have things Hoarding or saving
"just so"
A need to tell, ask, Praying
confess
Though I do have fun fielding an NPC suffering from OCD (and you should feel
free to have fun at his expense as well), it is important to understand that
OCD is a serious psychological disorder without a cure in most individuals.
One should assume that McDonald is receiving some sort of medical and
psychological therapy for his condition...which is how he is able to function
in Starfleet.  The things he does he **cannot** help.
