“You’ve read the report?” | |||
“Three times.” The woman replied disgustedly. “We’re certain that none of the aliens left the planet?” | |||
The Denoblean sighed. “You have the same information I have. But I think it is safe to assume that the answer is no.” | |||
“What kind of maniac drops nuclear weapons on a planet? Does he think he is Colonel Green or Khan Singh?” | |||
“I told you that once you got operations involved we couldn’t control things.” | |||
“I didn’t think they were going to send a starship. There are only 12 of them after all. Aren’t they supposed to be out there defending the border?” She asked in exasperation. | |||
“It was a high priority mission and that means they send the best. And the best are all on one of those 12 ships.” | |||
“Leave it to some damn marionette to stumble into a workable solution with a brute force mentality.” | |||
“It wasn’t a brute force answer. There was solid science behind the action. It was actually a unique answer. I told you they weren’t just a bunch of soldiers just as I told you we should have kept it in house.” | |||
“I suppose.” She allowed. “And all we lost was a few weeks.” | |||
The Denobulan decided it was useless to point out that they had lost an entire archeological team, including two of their own experts, not to mention HOOD’s personnel. “True, but now we have some exposure. Operations is demanding to know what is going on there. They aren’t very happy with the personnel losses.” | |||
“I don’t care what they want. They had their orders and the mission is over for them. Its classified and that is all they need to know.” | |||
“So where do we go from here?” He asked already knowing the answer, and not liking it. | |||
“Send in HORNET. Tell them to beam up some of the bodies. With any luck we’ll snag some of the aliens. Won’t be as good as getting some infected humanoids but it will be a start.” | |||
