DeSimms moved swiftly to open a channel to the Hood, "Security, put Decks 3-12 on Red Alert. Weapons crew man battle stations. Reconfigure deflector to fire a full-magnitude pure energy wave and ready all weapons. Do not fire until Captain Steele gives the order," DeSimms paused, and he looked at the Captain. Steele looked back at him with a raised eyebrow then pointed to Hemux. DeSimms continued his relay. "Lieutenant Hemux will feed fire control some tuning numbers for the energy weapons. All eyes turned to look at Steele. Some looked expectantly others looked pleadingly but Jack could feel the weight crushing down upon him. Too fast he kept thinking, this is going too fast. We’re away, we’re safe they can’t kill anymore crew. But they did kill. Those alien monsters killed the archeological team and they killed his men. Made his officers doing horrific things. He looked at the wound in Sean’s leg, looked at the blood that stained Gar’s tunic. He saw the fear in Lowls eyes. They were monsters that had to be stopped. | |||
But they had been stopped, for now at least. DeSimms was right things might change in the future. But that was the future, a future with many possibilities. In the here and now things were contained. | |||
[Captain we’re standing by for your order.] Hemux’s voice came over the comm. It was devoid of all emotion. | |||

“That won’t affect the outcome on the atmosphere.” DeSimms confirmed. | |||
“Steele to HOOD. Stand down all weapons, I repeat stand down all weapons. I need immediate confirmation of that order.” | |||
[All weapons standing down. Confirmed captain.] | |||
Steele moved closer to the window and looked down at the planet teeming with life. “We’re Starfleet and we don’t wipe out worlds, especially out of revenge.” | |||

I just couldn’t in the end see Steele ordering GO24 when it wasn’t necessary…I’m going to go with the nuc plan as a simple way to distract the ‘warden’ and casue the EMP pulse to get us free of the aliens and back in orbit. | |||
Nothing like a little tension at the end of the mission…. | |||
