KRIMAXFOR - Military Actions: Difference between revisions

A joint Gorn Confederacy/Federation terraforming operation on the border world of [[KRIMAXFOR_-_Planets_of_Note#Frika|Frika]], in the [[KRIMAXFOR_-_Star_Systems#Briol_.28ML-4986.29|Briol (ML-4986)]] system within [[KRIMAXFOR_-_Stellar_Phenomena#Cluster_NFC-101C|Cluster 101-C]], had fallen prey to the first direct [[Gorn Hegemony]] attack on Federation assets since [[KRIMAXFOR_-_Military_Actions#1st_and_2nd_Tybiiran_aka_.27The_Tybiiran_Campaign.27-_2411-2412|Tybiiran]].  However, this time, [[Gorn Hegemony|Gorn]] and Federation had uncovered evidence of possible [[Preservers|Preserver]] technology on [[KRIMAXFOR_-_Planets_of_Note#Frika|Frika]], making the planet and the system as a whole infinitely more valuable: not only was th esystem mineral and resource-rich as the [[Gorn Hegemony|Gorn]] need, it contained technology that could shift the balance of power in this quadrant for decades.  Thus, the simple rescue operation became one of critical strategic importance as well.

Outnumbered Star Fleet forces totaling 12 in number, including [[USS CIRCE]], met three [[Gorn Hegemony]] task forces totaling 18 in number, including three huge battleships.  Impossibly (owing as much to serendipity as to skill and nerve), Star Fleet forces won the day despite terrible losses, including the battlecrusier USS PARIS (the flagship of Task Froce OMICRON), the heavy cruiser USS KUZNETSOV, and the light crusiers USS MADRIGAL and GRAYSON; ther remainign Star Fleet forces took moderate to heavy damage.  [[Gorn Hegemony]] losses were near total.  Despite this heavy damage and loss of life, however, the Gorn Confed and Federation scientists were saved and the [[Preservers|Preserver]] technology secured...which ended up making the surviving personnel, most notably the crew of [[USS CIRCE]], heroes and media darlings, with at least one movie, "Showdown at Briol," being made based on the events above.
