Miniature medals are worn on the Mess Dress (white) uniform only, on the right breast; ribbons are worn on the Regular Dress (black) uniforms, on the right breast as well  They are worn according to a specific order of importance- this order of importance is shown below, along with graphical representations of the major awards.  

The Star Fleet achievement is awarded to any junior officer or enlisted member of the armed forces of the United Federation of Planets, or to any member of the armed forces of a friendly foreign nation, who while serving in any capacity with the Star Fleet distinguishes himself or herseld by outstanding preofessional achievement or for leadership.
