Notes:
The PAMPA-class Cruiser is the successor of the CHEYENNE-class
Explorer with all the upgraded tecnologies. The classic 4-nacelle
design of the old CONSTELLATION and CHEYENNE classes, also found on
the NIGHTINGALE-class medical destroyer, has been upgraded to the
lastest ILN-70x series.
Coupled with improved D-Warp and sublight gravitic plane drives, the
PAMPA-class is an extremely independent starship, able to fly solo
for a very long time, which makes it ideal for deep space exploration
and scientific missions. It is provided with ample laboratories,
recreational facilities, advanced sensors and numerous types of
crafts. It's lightly armed but it should have more than enough punch
to get out of any hairy situation if things go wrong.
The new ILN-70x nacelles have improved Warp coils using a system
of multiple concentrical layers, that provide an improved thermal
reaction, softer acceleration curves and finer control in the local
manifold deformation. Dedicated computer nodes, gathering information
in real time, are able to calculate the Warp bubble geometry tensor
at triple the frequency and almost ten times as precisely as older
models. This allows for faster speeds with less energy expenditure,
allowing for faster, longer Warp travels. Having 4 nacelles doesn't
make the ship travel faster, but it makes her able to sustain higher
speeds for much longer when D-Warp is not an option, by alternating the
energy output between each pair of nacelles before their performance
start to degrade due to thermal throttling (Warp coasting). There's
an experimental emergency mode that works by rapidly switching between
the four nacelles in succession, like a four-phase alternating current
generator. This generates extreme Warp gradients that allow speeds
never naturally reached before, but the strain on the nacelles is such
that five or ten minutes are enough to completely fuse the Warp coils.
The new Radiation Phase Shields allow for much faster D-Warp speeds
than before. The gravitic-plane dynamic drive provides excellent
maneuverability and accelerations. The IDF generators have been slowly
improving over the years, and new alloys on smaller vessels with
stress reinforcements in the hull, allow better sublight performance
than any older models.
The ship has 22 decks of roughly 5 meters each, to allow enough space
for the new electronics, biogel links, computer cores, automation
and holoemitters, IDF spaceframe reinforcers and two Warp cores.
The saucer module comprises decks 7 through 16 and has an ample mess
hall/cantine/bar called 12-Forward in the starboard forward section
of deck 12 which offers excellent views. The bridge is located in
deck 7 on the saucer section, while the big hangar bay covers decks
10 to 13 on the engineering section, with reserved space on the two
lower decks to keep crafts while not in use.
Ship names are based on Native American tribes of the Plains of
South America from where the class gets its name, registries in the
NCC-931xx series:
(Note: the Pampa is the Great Plains in South America. Its peoples
were collectively calles as 'Pampas', given by the Spanish when they
arrived, but proper autonims are preferred when available. There are
three groups: 'old' tribes known to be from the region, 'new' tribes
that settled after the independence from Spain and the conquests from
Argentina and Chile, and roaming tribes that are nevertheless related,
all of them mostly hunter-gatherers)
