Notes:
The WANDERLUST-class is the first outcome of a new philosophy in
exploratory vessels. Applying the lastest technologies and automatisms,
the result is a ship more capable than much bigger cruisers with a
lighter frame and only a fraction of the crew.
With a touch of inspiration from the classical Constitution-class
vessels, and three touches from the venerable Excelsior-class
spaceframe, the WANDERLUST is, however, a completely different ship
inside-out, with the latest improvements in all systems shipwide,
starting with the internal network that has been updated to the latest
biogel cells and the fastest optoelectroics. Taking advantage of the
increased computational power and the extremely fast optical network,
the main computer core has been designed around the concept of a
cluster of many smaller cores distributed around the ship: this
provides a more robust system, resilience to partial failure and
faster local response.
The AUGUR sensor suite has been fully integrated into this new
architecture and enhanced with extra sensor emitters, giving birth to
the VATES sensor suite. It's faster and gives better resolution both
at Warp and at sublight speeds, thanks to the coordination with the
new ILN-700s nacelle series and its own computing cores, resulting
in much faster speeds while in full sensor mode. The VATES sensor
is complemented with AUGUR SESR modules that take advantage of the
computer network to provide even better results, particularly on long
range sensors. The ship also has specialized planetary swipe sensors
and dedicated proximity sensors able to detect very small detail in
complex scenarios like asteroid fields.
The new ILN-70x nacelle series has improved Warp coils using a
system of multiple concentrical layers that provides an exceptional
thermal reaction and allows for softer acceleration curves and finer
control in the local manifold deformation. Dedicated computer nodes,
gathering information in real time, are able to calculate the Warp
bubble geometry tensor at triple the frequency and almost ten times
as precisely as older models. This allows for faster speeds with less
energy expenditure, allowing for faster, longer Warp travels. While
engaged in Warp, if the full resolution power of the VATES sensors is
activated, the computer calculates small cells in the Warp field bubble
that 'spike out' as the sensor emitters and receivers demand: This
way there's almost no impact on sensory performance while travelling
and Warp speeds are less affected than on previous iterations, as
the Warp bubble maintains a closer to optimal geometry.
In addition to the new Warp system, the WANDERLUST-class CL is
equipped with the latest Gen V D-Warp technology, which coupled with
the improved shields and SRPS-1 radiation phase shielding system,
allows for considerably faster and more robust D-Warp travel in all
Hyperspace bands. This new D-Warp iteration offers improved control
over local gravimetrics, providing extremely agile and responsive
sublight flight. Coupled with the very light and sturdy spaceframe
of the ship, this provides the best gravitic plane drive in the whole
catalog of StarFleet.
The WANDERLUST is well armed and ready to face any contingencies,
but the main emphasis is on exploration: using the most advanced
automatisms for maintenance and govern, directly through the
computer interface or via holographic AIs, the ship has been able
to reduce the crew complement to a point where living and working
space is luxurious. Several holodecks and holosuites provide ample
entertainment opportunities and the scientific laboratories are the
best available, comparable to those installed on a YASURAGI-class CL.
Most areas of the ship have holoemitters coverage so as to allow the
different holographic assistant systems to interact with the crew and
the ship as needed. In addition to all this, the ship has a luxurious
projection dome for stellar cartography and other scientific uses.
The ship posesses ample Hangar space for small crafts to assist in
exploration and a Runabout for longer away missions, with two VTOL
entries for smaller craft on either sides of the neck. The auxiliary
Hangar bay can hold the Runabout, but just barely, and usually has some
small craft like bees and small shuttles. It's vertical lift-off and
also houses a small repairs bay to enhance the independence capacity
of the ship. The secondary hull has an Engineering hangar for rapid
loading of suplies and Warp core operations in Docks and two extra
cargo hangars for easier supply operations.
The ship has 14 decks of roughly 5 meters to allow for all the
automations, energy conduits, computer cores, data transfer neural
links, extra IDF generators and holoemitters to work. The bridge is
on deck 1 and there's a cantine on deck 4 in the saucer starboard
section called 'Four Seasons' that offers excellent views with its
ample vieports. Decks 13 and 14 are rather irregular in shape and
size as they hold different cargo bays and systems.
Overall, a ship born to explore and boldly go where no one else has
gone before.
