> Zane smiled and said, "And how many times did the ship rip itself apart in the simulations?"<br>

> Jerran sat back in his chair as calmly as he could and waited for the<br>
> Captain's response...<br>
"It seems our best option but our prime concern is to get this
cure back to EPSILON. If the Cardassians attack we'll execute your
manoeuver up to and including a spread of torpedos. But after that we get
the hell out of here and make a bee-line for the mystery task force out
on the sidelines." Zane noticed the almost imperceptable frown that
briefly flashed across Jerran's face. He sympathized, the idea of running
from a fight seemed wrong. "We might get lucky and be able to do some
real damage to those two monsters but in the long run...it'd only be a
matter of time."
"Understood. What about the away team?"
"Its my guess that the Cardassian's won't make any move on us
until they are all back aboard. That way they are assured of no survivor's
and keeping the cure for themselves."
"Captain, couldn't we just side-step all of this by contacting
the task force and requesting their support before the Cardassians pull
the trigger?"
"That idea seems to make the most sense and everything I've been
taught points to that conclusion but every instinct in me is screaming not
to. They're hanging out there on the edge of our sensors watching but
they know we can see them and the Cardassian's can't. If they wanted to
provide support they could move a little closer. Surely the Cardassain's
wouldn't be foolish enough to try to attack us then."
"So what are they doing out there?"
"Well if the Cardassian's attack us we might, knowing we had
substantial reinforcements, stay and fight. And in the battle we could
very well be destroyed and then they waltz in and decimate Katane...."
"...and then the mystery ships beam down to the Ring and
examine the Luddites we ahve cured and they have the cure." He finished
the thought. "But they are Starfleet vessels! You can't be
suggesting..."
"But who's are they? They're definitly not SILVER and I can't see
any of our neighbouring fleets loaning us 4 capital ship just to drift.
Besides even if they did Admiral Nicholas wouldn't keep us in the dark and
he certainly would park them over the horizon. They'd of come barrelling
in here at warp nine and parked themselves on the Cardassian's backsides."
He shook his head. "No it just feels wrong. And if it turns out that
we're being overly parnoid, it'll mean they come on the scene before the
fight begins and we spent a few hours worrying for nothing."
"What about inoculating the Ring? We can't very well be deploying
shuttles if the Cardassians are planning to attack. And since they know
that is our plan they'll probably hold their fire until we're in the
middle of flight operations. I would."
Zane nodded in agreement. "Makes sense. The retrieval of the
away team will be the catalyst. Either they attack or they don't. If
they do were ready for them. If they don't we tell them we're going to
join up with our task force because it will be a much more efficent way
to spread the cure. And as an added protection as soon as we enter warp
we start sending the cure and our findings to EPSILON on every sub-space
frequency we can. Once the cat's out of the bag I think the danger will
defuse itself."
Satisfied with their options but disquieted with some of the
ramifications both men returned to the bridge. Jerran resumed his
post and Zane filled Koreth in on the coming plan.

Away Team: This will be kept underwraps up here on the ship to make sure
we don't give ourselves away to any Cardi eavesdropping. O
