Jerran had passed by her in the hallway, he was somewhat expecting to see

“Why do you need a special PADD?” asked Bat.
As a half Vulcan, he was too genetically inclined to swim underwater,
usually, let alone breath under it, but when one of the finned humanoids
came up and told him it was alright to breath, he tried it. It was
somewhat difficult to breath, but he got used to it rather quickly and
followed the mermaid to the briefing area. He decided this was probably
payback for making the crew walk up the steps of Mount Seleya in Vulcan's
thin, dry atmosphere.

“You’ll see,” she said with a grin.

He picked up a PADD and walked towards the door, thinking it was a

As a half Vulcan, he was too genetically inclined to swim underwater,

Meleah, sir," the android replied.
Zane entered the bridge with great anticipation. Three days of
monotonous travel had taken its toll and he was thankful they had finally
arrived. He noticed that all the senior officers who had ALPHA watch were
already at their stations. It seemed they too were looking forward to the
next FEYNMAN adventure.

"Very well, Lieutenant Meleah. I would like to welcome you to the Feynman. We will probably need your skills very much on this mission. Once you get settled in, I would like you to report to my office at 1700 hours."
"We're approaching the Coalsack's perimeter." The FCO told him.

"Understood, sir."
"Slow to impulse. And hold at 10,000km."

"Dismissed."
"Aye sir." Jerran replied.

"What's behind there, lieLutenant?"

Maril arrived back on the Bridge, noticing that Commander Zane had left. He also noticed that Lieutenants Jenn and Jerran were teasing each other, and so(partially because he was in a good mood and partially because he couldn't have Jenn sitting in the new chair while he just stood there), he interrupted them.
"Sensors are having trouble penetrating the 'wall'." The OPS
officer replied as her fingers flew across her board.

"Ahh, I see you two are having a good time." Jenn looked up, and Jerran quickly started to study his console, with a glance to Jenn that seemed to say, 'Boy, are you gonna get it.'
"Lt Meleah?" Zane asked.

"Oh, hello, Commander," Jenn greeted him. "Would you mind telling us who our new Chief Science Officer is?"
"One moment sir." The new SCI, sitting at the bridge science
station began to fine tune the DELPHI Array. She had expected such a
problem and had already completed modifications.

"I think you'll meet her soon enough."
"Begining to receive some information now sir...." As Jenn began
to relay the information to the rest of the bridge, Zane pulled up her
diosplays on his arm console. It didn't look very inviting.

"Oh, come on, Commander."
"Bridge to engineering."

"No, Lieutenant, I am not telling you who she is, and I suggest you get back to your station." Jenn did sit back down at her station, but she added, "So, it's a female." Maril could have kicked himself for saying "she" and "her", but he just grinned.
[Koreth here.]

"Yes, she is." "Fine." <<<<NRPG:Ha, ha, ha, now I'm sitting in the new chair. Yes, Kristen, I know you thought you would have it forever, but being FO does have its perks(now Zane's gonna come and take the chair from Maril and Andy will note that being CO has even more perks<g>)
"Mr. Koreth are the two communication relay pods ready for
launch?"

MD 1.1700 First Officer's Office
[Yes sir. We're locked and loaded.]

As Maril looked over some information on the Coalsack, he heard the office's "doorbell".
After the briefing the Admiral had sent out they had taken some
extra precautions one of which was to adjust two probes to become enhanced
communications relays. It had been decided that the FEYNMAN, on its
own would most likely lose contact with EPSILON after entering the sack
and that these two probes would, hopefully, allieviate this. The first
would be deployed here, just outside the sack and was essentially a
standard communications relay. The second would be deployed just inside
the sack. When discussing the idea the new SCI had suggested that the
storms and their resulting currents and eddies would most likely send the
relay thousands of kilometres away from its intended station thus negating
its effects. As a solution, Lt. Koreth had, with a little improvisation,
attached a small computer and engine to the probe which would keep it with
100km of its desired position.

"Enter," he commanded. Lieutenant Meleah walked through the doorway, then stood stiffly at attention in front of Maril's desk.
"Ensign Allard deploy probe 1."

"At ease, Lieutenant. Please, sit down." The android accepted the chair silently, and waited while Maril cleared his throat before he spoke.
"Probe one away."

"Well, Lieutenant, you are coming at a very opportune time. Our mission is to map the Coalsack, especially the many pirate bases in there. The DELPHI array, unlike most sensor arrays, can cut through the interference. However, it is still inhibited by it, and we will need up-to-the-minute reports. As you may know, the Coalsack is fraught with dangers, and we will need to avoid these as best we can. All of this, as well as the normal duties of the Chief Science Officer, will be part of your job. I would think it rather daunting."
"Put me on ship wide Ensign."

"You may want to make modifications to the array, which of course you may do, with the authorization of the Captain and myself. Also, if you have any suggestions in preparing for the Coalsack, do not hesitate to talk to the Captain. We must be ready for anything."
"Aye sir."

"Understood, sir," Meleah affirmed.
"Attention all hands, this is the Captain. In a few moments we
will be entering the Coalsack. As I'm sure you are all aware it is a most
uninviting place. While the FEYNMAN is well suited to this environment we
can expect to be jostled around somewhat, especially upon entry. So grab
something solid and hold on. See you on the other side. Zane out." He
turned to face Maril. "Here we go."

"Good. Now, you may choose a new ASciO, or any other member of your staff, although your choices are basically limited to this ship, since we have left Starbase already. Your quarters are in room 0541. I suggest you make all of your changes soon, because, in less than two days, we are heading into the Coalsack. Oh, one more thing, Lieutenant. I was a Chief Science Officer before I rose to FO. I do know how it feels," Maril smiled.
"Raise shields and go to yellow alert." The first officer
ordered.

"Dismissed."
"Mr. Jerran take us in 1/4 impulse."

Engineering Warrant Officer Samuel Redaso, a new officer just transferred from Epsilon, stood at a console, looking at the Feynman's emission outputs. They were rather low, though not undetectable. On his service record, everything before his assignment to Epsilon had been listed as *CLASSIFIED*. Everyone had just assumed that he had been on some intelligence mission before. Although he did have some experience in intelligence work, that wasn't why the record was classified. The classification had been made because WO Redaso had been in GREY Fleet before SILVER, and obviously they didn't want the Feynman knowing about that fact. Having known that a communications buoy would be dropped right outside the Coalsack, he had made some modifications. He knew that his GREY Fleet compatriots would want to destroy the buoy, but he had left a coded message in the buoy. He hoped it would convince them to not destroy the buoy. In his message, he pointed out that they would not only be able to tell what was happening to the Feynman, but they would also be able to read his encoded messages embedded in the Feynman communications. Redaso smiled. He had of course relayed the fact that there would be a double shield on the Feynman, but now he would also be able to tell them the new shield frequency. Redaso grinned inward. They didn't even know....

was not a pleasant one. Still, it was officers like them, so officious
and rigid that had put him and his crew in the position they were now in.
But not for long. His sources at Starfleet Command had told him that 5

which the USS GAUSS had undertaken into a similiar coal-sack, and the
technique initiated by the XO and CEO to prevent structural damage. There
was no way Meleah was going to be under-prepared for this.

They were right about that, but they didn't know that Meleah had been told

All of this Meleah reviewed in one second. Part of her was still

but had seemed surprised that she had gotten 100%, one of the few to do so.
He had thought, what else would you expect from an android, but he hadn't
said anything.

Meleah also remembered her first meeting with the rest of the staff.
"Dismissed."
Lt Jenn had seemed pleased to see another female as part of the senior
staff, and although Meleah has only basic emotions and not always good
character judgement, she thought that Krysa could become a good friend. Lt
Jerral had seemed a little hostile, and until Meleah was quietly told that
she had beaten his score on the phaser test, she did not know why the
Lieutenant might be feeling that way.

The FEYNMAN was now a couple of seconds closer to the 'Sack. Meleah

hoped that Crysta, a part Bajoran, part Betazoid physics specialist who

Jared had not been too pleased with a small child trying to investigate the
warp core.

The ship was now only a few seconds away from entering the 'Sack.
Maril arrived back on the Bridge, noticing that Commander Zane had left. standard communications relay.

"Ensign Allard deploy probe 1."
"I have checked over every crew member's record and decided to
make a few changes. Lt(jg) Swanson is shown to be better
qualified to have the position of ASCI. You have the option
of being the XO for any of the shifts or the CO for GAMMA shift."

"Probe one away."
"You're joking!" Loth exclaimed.

"Put me on ship wide Ensign."
"No, I am not."

"Aye sir."
"Well, I'm not working with you, that's for sure. Nor am I
working with Swansen. So I suppose I'll take the GAMMA shift,"
he said grudgingly. "Who'll the XO be?"

"Mr. Jerran take us in 1/4 impulse."
Meleah had found Loth to be fairly disagreeable unlike her new ASCI
who should have probably been a counselor. Nali Swansen had a knack for
getting along with people, and Meleah had decided that she would make a good
assistant, especially with the reports she had been doing each day. Right
now, Nali was working with some engineers on the DELPHI array, just in case
a subspace bubble needed to be initiated to protect the ship from any
damaging warp bubbles. Meleah had read a few weeks ago about a mission
which the USS GAUSS had undertaken into a similiar coal-sack, and the
technique initiated by the XO and CEO to prevent structural damage. There
was no way Meleah was going to be under-prepared for this.

which sort of questions to avoid so the press hadn't got any 'dirt' yet.

Lt Jenn had seemed pleased to see another female as part of the senior

she had beaten his score on the phaser test, she did not know why the

was not a pleasant one. Still, it was officers like them, so officious

But not for long. His sources at Starfleet Command had told him that 5
new ships were being readied for launch. He meant to have one.

Finallly, he raised his head from the PADD he was holding.

Glin'kharr was a bit dazed. He hadn't expected this.

Maril watched the escape of the Feynman closely. It appeared that they
would be able to avoid the mines as they headed away from the pirate base.

However, this was not to be. Just as Jerran rerorted, "We are clearing the field of mines, sir," the ship rocked intensely.

"Report, Ensign! Was that a mine?" the Captain cried as others got back to their stations.

"No, sir. Three small ships just appeared and fired at us. Attempting to lock onto them. The interference is making it tough," Allard reported.

"Do it, Ensign! Where did they come from?" Zane ordered crisply as the ship shook again.

"They were masked by a gravitational eddy. Also, the mines blocked many of the sensors while they surrounded us," Maril answered.

"I've got a lock on one of them, sir. Firing phasers and 3-photon spread."

"Mr. Jerran, become the strong wind of Asala. Take us wherever the wind blows!" Maril ordered.

"Target destroyed!"

"Sir, shields are down to 10%. Impulse engines are almost inoperative!" Jenn reported.

"I've got a course set, sir. I'm using what little impulse power we have."

"Zane to Engineering. I want as much impulse power as possible. Is that understood?"

[Understood, sir. Diverting power to the-]

The communication was interrupted by a third rocking. Officers flew from their stations. Sparks were everywhere.

"Sir, shields are offline! We have intruders!" Allard reported.

Four privateers beamed onto the Bridge, one aft, one near Ops, one above the Ensign Lee, and one a few feet in front of Maril.

"Duck, Commander!" Allard shouted as he fired at the one in front of Maril, unaware of the one less than five feet behind him.

Luckily, the privateer near Maril fell, but so did Allard after the one behind him stunned him.

As the one aft looked around, one of the other two grabbed Jenn by the neck, adding the statement, "If you don't turn over control, she dies."

MD: 5.1230<br>

CPO Alex Tamarov, watch officer at Security Control, bolted at the Intruder-alert alarm sounding. He
startled the two Midshipmen, Hensley and Krogriy as he got up. "Tamarov to all security, INTRUDER ALERT! I
have Phaser fire on the Bridge; it may have been taken!", he grabbed deep breath.

"T'Boc and Matsumii, get
your squads up to the BRIDGE FLANK! T'Boc take the foreword lift, Matsumii take the aft one!" he was
standing in front of his console, not bothering to sit. Alex wiped his forehead. "Security to Transporter 1,"
Tamarov hoped this would work.

[Transporter 1 here,] Ens. Fuhrman.

"Sir, INTRUDER CONTROL, Bridge. Can you get a lock on the boarders?" Alex almost caught himself crossing his
fingers, foolish gesture.

[Stand by, Security, checking..] said Fuhrman. Moments that passed like days slid by before the Transporter
Chief replied, [Mr. Tamarov, they boarders have some sort of personal dampening field. No lock is possible.]
Alex pounded his fist onto his console! Damn!

"Ensign, can you try for just their energy weapons?" Alex asked, a last attempt.

[No can do Chief, same field blocks their weapons, too!]

"OK, Ensign, can we send someone onto the Bridge?" *Spirits, please allow this one...*

[Sure Chief, but how can...]

"Belay that, Ensign! I'm on my way. I need you to beam my squad into the bridge, behind each of those scum
bag 'privateers'." and closed the channel, not waiting for a reply. Alex started for the door, but stopped
at the two Middies, who sat quietly, out of the way.

"I'm sealing Security behind me. Get two rifles from the armory, then guard this place." Double Yes Sirs
resounded as they fled for weapons. Grabbing his own rifle, Alex bolted through the door, tapping his badge,
"Computer, seal Security Control, Authorization Tamarov Gamma-1923." <Acknowledged, Security Control is now
inaccessible>

"Tamarov to PO-1 Bordeau."

The squad leader's voice came instantly, but with a slight gasp, as though she was out of breath. [...Bordeau
here, Chief.]

"Amberi, we're going to retake the bridge. T'Boc and Matsumii's squads are going up the lifts. I'm going to
join yours and we'll beam in. Get your squad to Transporter 1 NOW. I'll meet you there in six minutes!",
Alex gasped himself, running for the lift. Once inside, he fell against the wall, out of breath. The lift
deposited him on deck on deck Six. Rested slightly, he ran for the Transporter Room. The doors opened to
emit him to a Transporter Chief leveling a Phaser II at him.

"Whoa, Fuhrman, it's ME! Tamarov." He skidded to a stop and held his rifle above his head in surrender!

"Just being cautious, Mr. Tamarov. Where's your squad?" asked Ens. Fuhrman, holstering his sidearm.

"They'll be here any second. Can you put us behind them?" Alex asked, coming around to view the panel.

"Their protection fields extend about two meters around them. I can get you about 2.5 meters away from each."
said Fuhrman.

"That will do." Alex held up his rifle, checking the setting indicator, he slid it all the way up to 16
(kill), paused a moment, then back down two notches to Maximum Stun.

Lt. Jenn struggled against her captor. She needed to break free more than ever. Her captor needed a
shower, bad! She tried to bend, turn and plant her knee in his groin, but his grip was too tight. "Release
me, you pig!"

"Hey, we have a feisty one here, kinda cute too!" said the disgusting one, probably the leader. Maril started
to get up, but stopped at Zane motioning him to stay put.

Zane then rose himself, "What's the meaning of
this! Get off my ship. I will not negotiate with you at all.!" As he got up from his chair, the privateer
beside Jennn and her captor leveled his weapon at Zane.

"Commander, you better sit back down, or you'll be negotiain' with hole in your head."

Zane grudgingly complied, "No one take any action. That's an order." The leader grinned, "That's better."
He motioned to the one how had taken out J.C.

"Come down here and check on him," pointing to their fallen
comrade, laying on the deck in front of Maril.

He looked up at his leader, "O.K. Cal." Cal shot a blast
millimeters from the other Pirate's head.

"Shut UP!, you Idiot! I said no names! Next time I won't miss!"

The Pirate touched his head slightly where the beam had barely missed. Angry at being rebuked by his leader,
he gave J.C.'s unconscious form a sharp kick to the side on his way down. He bent to check his stunned
comrade," He's OK, just stunned boss". He got back up and stood behind Maril.

Cal turned his attention to Zane, aiming his weapon at Jenn's forehead. "Now, Commander. Surrender. No
conditions."

Before Zane could speak, Maril shouted "You know we cannot surrender, especially to scum like
you." Zane turned to silence the XO, except the butt of the nearby Pirates' rifle beat him to it. With a whop
to the back of the head, Maril was out, slumped against his chair.

"Commander, shut your people up, or I will shut them up for good!"...

Zane motioned for a security team to head down to engineering as there was
no report from Lt. Koreth. Then the rest of the bridge staff went into
action.

Medical staff had already stepped onto the bridge and were checking out
Ens. Allard and Cmdr. Maril as Krysa straightened her uniform and took her
place at Ops while security gathered up the four pirates to take them to
the brig. “I’ll show you cute,” she muttered.

Jerran chuckled, “Well, you can’t fault him for pointing out the obvious.”

Krysa shot him a look. “Don’t start with me, Terri,” she said sternly, but
he could tell by her smile, that she was pleased at the sideways
compliment.

“Sir the three ships are still waiting. Perhaps for a signal from the
intruders,” Jerran reported.

“We can’t take much more from them, sir.” Jenn said, her face furrowed in a
frown. “Shields are still off-line, and without any help from engineering
we’re sitting pretty helpless.”

Zane nodded, “Mr. Jerran, can you get us drifting. I want to appear more
then helpless.”

“Aye, sir,” said Jerran with a grin. Playing helpless was easy.

“I’m fine,” came a growl behind them. The turned to see Ens. Allard,
pushing away the medical team. He shook his head a bit and stood to take
his station. Zane looked at him questioningly.

“I’m fine, sir. Honest. It was only a stun setting.”

Zane looked at the med tech who shrugged, not willing to make an issue out
of it. It was true Allard had only been stunned. And while the medical
officers liked to check out stun victims thoroughly, it wasn’t very often
an option on Starships. “Very well, Ens. See what you can do about our
weapons systems.”

The intruders had beamed into engineering
and caught the Federation officers by surprise. Tarrant
was working in a nearby jefferies tube when the attack
came. The commotion caused the CEO to backtrack
a little towards the main part of Engineering.

"...and make sure we have the bridge." It was a
rough voice, but sounded more like the person was
trying to be that way.

Tarrant managed to get close enough to see some of the
situation. There were five of them that he could see, and
by the voices he guessed three more out of sight.

WO Dunnon, always the impulsive one unfortunately,
spoke up "You can't do this. When Starfleet gets... AGH"

The sound of a blunt object striking one's skull silenced the
shield specialist.

"STARFLEET... Your *precious* STARFLEET won't come here!"
The voice was pure hatred.

Tarrant could only sit there for the moment hoping that
no one else would make such an impulsive move. He was
wrong.

Ens. Jerad thought it prudent to take action and attacked
Dunnon's attacker. Unfortunately the Ensign was not
overy adept at the fighting arts and was quickly thrown off.
Tarrant saw his ACEO thrown into his field of vision.
Then a second later a phaser blast vaporized him into
nothingness.

Tarrant bit down, stifleing the need to attack.

"You IDIOT! We are suppost to be on *stun*!" Another
phaser shot, but at lower power, shot out from beyond
the Klingon's point of view. The shot hit the Engineering
Communication's panel sending it into sparks.

The trying-to-be-rough-voice sounded again. "Enough of
this. Get Engineering secure. You two, get these prisoners
over there."

Tarrant backed up into the tube, and headed for another
junction. He had to help get Security in there. After running
through the maze Tarrant ended up in the walkway near
Engineering. Carefully stryfing the wall the CEO shifted once
again into the tactical roll.

Ironicly he thought that he'd been doing this a lot lately.
Just then he had to duck back as Engineering doors came
into view. The two Security officers layed unconscious
on the floor as two pirates had taken up their slots. Both
human, or as far as Tarrant could tell, and with phaser
rifles.

He wanted to get Security, but if the rest of the bridge was
in such a shape, then there might not be any help.
From Engineering Tarrant could pretty much retake the ship
with little help.... but that was the trick.

It was now or never... "please... please don't shoot me."
the voice Tarrant used sounded like a combination of
Lt. Jenn and Cmdr. Maril. He was not an actor.

For added affect he used his rather rough voice
for a laugh. Then set up in position. One of the guards came
arround and Tarrant didn't hesitate. He lept foreward like a
tiger surprising the guard. Getting in close enough, the
partial Klingon eliminated any chance of the long rifle shooting
him. One powerful blow to the man's neck was all it took.

He wouldn't die quickly, but the esophagus was now crushed,
and would slowly suffocate him. Tarrant grabbed the dropped
rifle and took up position again.

"What the hell was that?" the second guard came around
more cautiously.

They fired at the same time. Tarrant found himself struck in the arm,
where'as the pirate guard was hit dead center. The
situation made the CEO think of Ens. Allard's firearm
qualification test. He grinned as the pain from the blast came.
It was more of a grimace. A little smore arose from
his hurt arm.

Just then three security officers came around the corner and
nearly shot him. At least now he had backups
to retake Engineering. If they didn't react and kill him first.

Meleah stod motionless as the pirates beamed onto the bridge. She saw one
right behind Allard but wasn't quick enough to stop him from being stunned.
The pirate then turned around and trained the phaser on her. "I wouldn't
come any closer, sister."

Meleah tilted her head to one side, a confused look on her face. "Why would
you not come any closer?"

The pirate gave a short laugh. "You think you're real smart, don't you?"

"As a matter of fact...." Meleah's sentence was cut off by Zane.

"Don't say anything, Lieutenant."

Meleah saw that it was a tense situation and wisely decided not to say any more.

<<SNIP>>

As Jerran threw one pirate away from him, Meleah moved forward to make sure
the other one would not cause any trouble but fortunately, the pirate was
knocked down. Keeping out of the way of the phaser fire, she went around to
the pirate who was still clutching his stomach, and grabbed him in a
forceful hold. "Are you alright, Lt?" she asked Krysa.

"I think so."

One of the security officers came to escort the pirate Meleah held to the
brig, while Zane pieced together reports from around the ship.

>"Still trying to get reports from the rest of the ship, sir," Allard said,<br>
>groggy from the effeects of the stun shot. "Lieutenant Glin'kharr reports<br>
>that sickbay is secure. I have not heard anything from engineering,<br>
>though, from either the security teams I sent down or from LT Koreth."<br>
><br>
>Zane tapped his badge as the rest of the birdge crew got back to their<br>
>positions, "Bridge to engineering. LT Koreth, please respond."<br>
><br>
>Every eye was on the commander as the comm remained silent...<br>

Although no-one openly showed nervousness as to what may have occurred in
engineering, it could be felt by everyone, including Meleah. There were
very few explanations for the CEO's non response.

Allard and Maril were sent down to Engineering to look for Koreth. Meleah
then stepped forward. "Cmdr, I believe that I could be of some use as part
of the security team."

Zane comsidered. He remembered her training as a security officer, and had
heard of her proficiency in the phaser test. "Okay."

"Thank-you, sir." Meleah went directly to the turbolift, and met up with
the others just outside Engineering.

Allard eased himself around the entrance and just as Meleah and Maril
followed him into Engineering, there was a volley of phaser fire. Both
officers managed to avoid the fire but there were a couple of unfortunate
security officers who didn't. Those in Starfleet returned fire at the three
pirates that they could see, and eventually one was hit. When he went down,
the other two ran.

Allard stood up and started following them, half of his team automatically
following his lead. "Ockjii," he said to the Andorian officer, "you take
half the team and search engineering. Lt, you stay here," he said as he was
already at the exit where the pirates had gone.

Meleah looked around her. Many of the Engineering staff were lying down,
but at this point she was unable to tell who was injured, or even dead.
While security started searching, she started looking for the injured. And
for Lt. Koreth.

She heard what sounded to be like a volley of phaser shots, a far distance
away, and went towards the sound. Her phaser in her right hand, she
cautiously looked around the corner and saw Koreth, a few security guards,
and some bodies lying on the floor. "I take it you won," she observed.

"For the moment," Koreth replied. "There shouldn't be too many more,"
fingering his phaser as if willing the pirates to come out.

"Ens Allard and Cmdr Maril are currently chasing two more intruders who were
in the main part of engineering."

"Then we have a chance. Follow me."

The small group advanced carefully towards main engineering, and when they
found no-one there but a few Starfleet officers still lying on the ground,
Koreth advanced to the main control panel. "They've blown communications,
shields, and came close to damaging the main links to the engines. As it
is, we don't have enough power to go to warp." Motioning to the security
officers, he said, "Watch for those pirates. Lt," turning back to Meleah,
"I'll need some help getting the engines back to full power."

Before they could get started, two pirates (different ones from before) came
into view. One security officer was downed before the others opened fire.
With deadly accuracy, Meleah shot both of the pirates, her phaser only on
stun. Had it not been, the pirates would have been dead instantly.
Immediately afterwards, she noticed that Koreth was favouring his injured
arm but upon recalling that he was part Klingon, and Klingons tend to ignore
minor injuries, she did not say anything, and they started working on the
engines.

Anyone who thought that Meleah would stay out of the action was wrong. She

She'll certainly want to practice those Command skills.

“Thanks Bat, it was wonderful.” Krysa told the Bartender, then added, “As
usual.”

Bat grinned happily, “Always a pleasure, my dear.”

“Unfortunately it didn’t help. I still have a headache.”

Bat laughed. “You are the only woman I know who tries to cure a headache
with food.”

Krysa grinned, “Don’t laugh, it usually works.” She sighed, “Ah well, I’m
sure it’s just from where that creep grabbed my neck. I’m going to go to
sickbay and get something for it.”

“Probably a good idea.”

Krysa waved as she headed out of 10-Forward. She rubbed her temple where
the pounding only seemed to be getting worse. This was the second one in so
many days. Luckily the first had gone away after that delicious piece of
hot apple pie. This one would even budge after a large dish of Bat’s
special Irish stew.

Krysa walked into Sickbay and was met by Dr. Glin’kharr. “What are you
still doing on duty, Doctor.”

“A doctor’s work is never done, Lt. What can I do for you?”

“I have this horrible headache that I can’t seem to get rid of.” She
explained.

“What have you taken for it?”

“Well, actually only Bat’s stew,” she grinned.

Raising an eyebrow at her, Glin’kharr decided not to ask. He pulled out a
hypospray. Checking it carefully first, Glin’kharr put it to Krysa
shoulder. “This should take care of it in a blink.”

“I hope so.”

“Are you prone to headaches?”

Krysa nodded, “Though not so much as I used to be. I’m sure you’ve read in
my records about my head injury when I was 16. I got horrible headaches for
several years following. Still get them every so often.”

“How do you usually take care of them?”
Krysa grinned, “Usually they’ll go away if I eat something.”

“Interesting.”

“Though I did get grabbed by the neck today during the intruder alert.” She
pushed her dark hair back from her neck so Glin’kharr could see the bright
plum bruise that had formed on the back left side of her neck.

“I see. You should have gotten that taken care of earlier.”

“I didn’t have time.”

The doctor growled, “I’m sure. But you still need to have things like this
taken care of. One of these days it might be serious.”

“Yes, sir.” said Krysa with a smile. She quickly took it off her face when
Glin’kharr didn’t smile back.

“Tip your head this way, please.” Krysa did exactly as he asked while he
tended to her bruised neck.

When he finished, he asked, “How’s your headache?”

“Completely gone. Even faster the a hot fudge sundae,” she chuckled.

“Of that I have no doubt,” said Glin’kharr.

Krysa thanked the doctor and left for her quarters to get a short nap
before they arrived at the base.

The pirate ships were quite easy to evade now that their crews were all on
the FEYNMAN trying to reap its technological treasures, with little
success. The mines were a little bit more difficult to dodge, though, as
they were stil under the control of the pirate base. Even under minimal
impulse power, LT Jerran was able to maneuver away with only a couple of
them exploding, causing minimal damage to the ship's shielding.

"We've cleared the minefield, Captain," he reported. "Proceeding on the
elliptical orbit you specified. ETA back at the pirate base, 11 hours,
57.9 minutes and counting."

"None of the pirate ships are pursuing," LT Jenn added.

Zane nodded and said, "It would appear that they sent all their people
over to try and capture us. So much the better."

"Security reports coming in from Engineering, sir," Tamarov reported.
"They say they've got the situation mostly in hand, with a few stragglers
yet to be accounted for. They've managed to do some moderate damage to
the warp core. We won't have that back online for a few hours, at least."

"LT Jenn, divert all remaining power from the fusion reactors to the
sensor systems and bring the emergency reactors and batteries up to full
standby just in case something happens."

"Aye, sir," the OPS officer said.

Welllll, I know this was short and sweet, but I just wanted to set it up

with three nacelles comes up and attacks us.

Meleah stepped out of the turbolift onto the bridge. Because some of the
other senoir officers were in need of medical attention, she had been called
upon to command Beta shift. Because she did not need any sleep, and was not
damaged, she was a logical choice for the position. LtCmdr Maril was in the
command chair, and he stood up when Meleah came into view. "Cmdr, Dr.
Glin'kharr wishes you to go down to Sickbay as soon as your shift has finished."

"Thank-you," he replied and proceeded to inform her of the situation
(nothing had really happened so far). He then left the bridge and Meleah
seated herself in the command chair. This was her first command shift on
the Feynman, and in an unusual sort of way, she was looking forward to it.
She made the usual department checks, keep an eye out for the pirates, and
generaly had a uneventful shift. But she didn't get bored simply because
she couldn't get bored.

At 0030 hours, as her extended shift was up, she tapped her badge and said,
"Bridge to Cmdr Maril."

There was a few seconds wait, then a groggy sounding voice said [Yes]

"We are exactly thirty minutes away from the pirate base. The Captain
informed me that all senior officers were to be on the bridge, if possible,
when we arrived."

[I'm on my way.]

Meleah then switched her attention to Zane. "Bridge to Cmdr Zane."

[Yes?] sounded a voice that indicated he was wide awake.

"We are twenty-nine minutes away from arrival"

[Thank-you, Lt.]

A few minutes later, Zane, Maril, Krysa, and Allard arrived. Jerran had
arrived slightly earlier than the others and was already seated at his
station. Meleah relinquished the chair, which she had investigated during
her shift, and took up her chair at the science station as Ens Loth was
still in sickbay.

"Commander, I want you to lead an

"Sir, don't you think we would be like the

"Yes, you probably would stick out. However,
our mission is to infiltrate, and that's what
we'll do."

"Aye, sir. Now, hmm...Mr. Allard, Mr.

like an NCO each from the Engineering department,
the Science Department, and the Security

"We will also need appropriate clothing. I'd
like you to find that, Ensign Lee. And also we
will need a way to sneak into the base without
anyone realizing that we beamed in from the
Feynman. Lt. Meleah, that's your job."

"Develop a cover character for each of
yourselves. Keep in mind that we will be pirates,
and for efficiency's sake, we will keep ourselves
in a rough chain of command. We will go over
everything at 0200 hours and we will depart at
0230 hours. Is everything understood?"

"Yes, sir," was heard throughout the Bridge.

"Do you think you could have been a little
more direct, Commander?" Zane smiled as everyone
got to their duties.

Maril shrugged. "I just didn't want to
forget anything."

Pirate Base:Cargo(Loot?) Hold 4

Maril, along with the six other officers,
stood, looking around at what these pirates had
stolen over time. Of course, the pirates could
have kept the loot on their ships, but they
probably wanted to keep things light, and so used
the cargo to buy things and pay for food. This
was that loot--the loot that had been used as
currency on the base.

Finally, someone found the door. It would
have been hard to get in from the outside, but
being inside, that wasn't a problem. Maril
ordered the Engineering officer to try to find
some way to allow them to get back in if they
needed to. He wasn't greedy; he simply thought
they might need to get back in at some point.

Maril had chosen to act the part of a tough
pirate captain who had gotten into many a battle--
just not any that anyone on the base could
remember.

"Everyone, out, now!" he yelled in a grumpy
tone.

By this time, the Engineering officer had
finished. No one was surprised by Maril's tone of
voice; they just acted their parts and grumbled as
they shuffled out of the hold.

"C'mon, you lot of traitors, get to the
docks," he muttered.
