>"There appears to be a power source on that planetoid, captain, possibly a<br>

>"Confirmed, sir," the science officer, LT Meleah said unemotionally<br>
>fromthe aft station. "Sensor scans would also indicate the presence of a<br>
>number of small matter antimatter reactors in orbit aroud the planetoid,<br>
>indicative of starship power sources, in addition to some inert Cochrane<br>
>type subspace fields within the body itself."<br>

>Jerran looked up at the viewscreen and said, "Probably some smaller ships<br>
>docked within a base of some sort."<br>
><br>
>Zane nodded and turned to Maril saying, "Well, Commander, as you might<br>
>say, Katana has seen the sea. It looks like we've found one of the pirate<br>
>bases we were sent out to look for."<br>
A warning light flashed on Lt. Meleah's display. "Sir, reading a power
surge on the planet."
"A weapon?" asked Zane spinning to face Ens. Allard.
Quickly Allard ran through the controls, "Dosen't appear to be sir...
more like a tractor beam."
"Could it hold us?"
A little confused, the Ensign replied, "No sir... but they should be
able to figure that out too from our power outputs."
On the main screen a green band of light swept accross
space, somewhat near the Feynman, another displaced about 800km
port, two more also nearby.
"Sir, I'm picking up small pieces of unknown alloys within those bands
sir. Spherical, 3 meters in diameter.. no power readings." announced Lt. Jenn.
"On Screen"
The front view showed a small object bathed in the green of the
tractor beams.
"Magnify"
The small ball had numerous antenni protruding from it. Zane
almost kicked himself for not realizing sooner.
"Helm! Move us..."
Allard interrupted, "Sir! The beams have moved. They've
'thrown' the spheres into our area. Fore, aft,... all sides."
Zane finally said it, "Proximity Mines. Probably won't activate until
near contact."
"Sir, the planet is hailing us."
<NRPG>
C'mon, a pirate base without defences!?<br>
Assume that the mines won't be easily set off<br>
by some quick trick or sensor burst. <G><br>
Yeah.. spies in MY department huh?<br>
