> "Indeed, Lt. I'm glad to here that," said Zane with a smile. "I think we can<br>

> "Aye, sir."<br>

> "Sir, we're being hailed by the USS PHOENIX, under the command of Captain<br>
> Tremaine," Krysa reported.<br>
><br>
> "On screen, Lt."<br>
><br>
> <Congratulations, Commander Zane,> said the slightly balding man on the<br>
> viewscreen. <We are glad to see that you and your ship are unscathed><br>
><br>
> "As are we Captain Tremaine."<br>
><br>
> <I don't think you will have to worry about the Cardassians causing any<br>
> problems now. They have agreed to head home.> Krysa could feel Tremaine's<br>
> disappointment under his diplomatic demeanor.<br>
"I was a little curious as to why you held back for so long. The
fact that Starfleet sends a SOLAR class, AGAMEMNON and two STORM class
vessels points to the fact that you expected we'd be attacked."
Tremaine remained silent.
"I haven't heard of the PHOENIX or your escorts what fleet are you
from?"
"Commander, I'm under orders and those orders do not include
answering the questions of the CO of a tin-can out on the periphery. I
will disperse my ships to aid in the spread of the antidote and then be on
my way." The face of the Captain was replaced by the starfield.
"Well, I have to admit I'd like to meet him in a dark alley one
day."
Maril smiled sympathetically. "Look at the size of that monster!"
Both men watched the task force split.
"Well you keep saving the galaxy and one day you'll have one."
Zane replied.
"What about you, Captain?"
"No I can't see taking a SOLAR class, a command cruiser means you
have a task force commander or perhaps even the Admiral breathing down
your neck all that time. Besides that third nacelle really detracts from
the beauty. Looks like they backed in to another ship!"
Zane sat back and enjoyed the conversation. It was nice to be
able to just 'talk' with his friend without staring the death of billions
in the face, as well as his own.
"Sir, the PHOENIX signals ready."
"Proceed with transport." Zane ordered.
"What about an AGAMEMNON? You security types always like big
guns. She certainly fits the bill." Maril asked as he carefully
monitored the operation on his console.
"Hmmmm. It would be nice to not have to tuck our tails between
our legs. But I came out here to explore not become the Federation's 'Big
Stick'"
"Well, you must see something doen the line. Its getting rough
out here and these aren't the safest ships to be in."
"Hey she can hold her own. But..." He stroked the arm rest
affectionately, feeling a little guilty for considering another. "...an
ENDEAVOUR has a nice balance between brains and brawn."
Both men smiled, satisfied with the mission's outcome as their
thoughts drifted towards the future.
"PHOENIX signals operation concluded. They're warping out."
"Sensors show the compound has been dispersed through the RING's
atmosphere. By the time the USS BANTING arrives the entire Ring should be
plague free." Maril confirmed as he read the readouts.
"Excellent. Helm take us home."
<<<NRPG>>>
Just a short one to point us for home....NRPG to follow.
