After being awakened by much earlier, Tarrant had
spent the remaining time on the Feynman bridge running basic
engineering checks. But his mind wasn't there... it
was making leaps and bounds trying to connect all the pieces.
Then he abandoned the hum drum and dove into it all.
Finally a picture started to come into focus, and it greatly
disturbed the CEO. Granted, it had little rooting in fact, but
it was plausible.
"Koreth to Captain Zane"
<Zane here, what is it Lieutenant>
"I have something I'd like to discuss with you
Captain..." he thaught about it for a moment
then added, "in private."
Inqusitively Zane replied <OK. Meet me in my ready room in
fifteen minutes. Zane out.>
...................15 minutes later<br>
Scene: Capt's Ready Room<br>
"Well Mr. Koreth, what seems to be the problem."
asked Zane settling into his chair.
"Sir, off the record, I've done some checking and I
think I may have come across something rather disturbing."
"Continue, Lieutenant."
"I called in some favors from others who were at the
academy with me in security. " he paused, "Six months ago all of the
Federations medical samples of this Plague were stolen...."
Zane quickly interrupted, "How accurate is this information
Lieutenant?"
"My information is sketchy, granted. But I did some
further checking in more common areas. Right after the supposed
theft, all of the doctors and scientists working at the three
facilities were taken into custody. That *is* documented.
They were later released."
A grave expression overtook the Captain as he rose from his
chair. It was coming into place.
Tarrant continued. "I believe that this may have been planned
by the Cardassians all along sir. This is hypothetical, but say that
the Cardassians were unable, on their own, to come up with
a cure. So they stage this.
Now here we are on the Feynman, with one of the top
medical scientists coming up with a cure. It must be hush hush,
so Starfleet keeps it under wraps.
Now though we are seriously outgunned. If we do come up with
a cure, then the Cardassians have it. They attack and we are
eliminated."
Zane turnes from his view of space, "But, if that is all
true, then why send only us? It dosen't fit."
Now Tarrant fit another piece, "In a way they haven't. I've been
doing some sweeps with the DELPHI. Four more ships have
been diverted to this area of space, and by my checks,
could overtake the Cardassian warships before they could
reach any major location. One of which is a Solar Class.
I think we may just be a pawn in this sir."

Your Court Andy. My guess is that even CINCSILVER
wouldn't know about it. <G>
