"Hrrmf, bio chip?" A large human held out a hand impatiently and
slotted the chip in a reader as soon as it was passed across. "CSciO? I
have an opening or two for someone in sciences. Let's see." He tapped
another PADD a few times. The Feynman could use a good sciences officer."
He looked up at Bishop and back down at the bio before him.
"Well, barring the arrival of him, could I take a crack at it?"
The Admiral looked up to see a straight face and an ulmost Vulcan
like calm. He growled softly and looked back down while Kevin stood there
waiting. "I believe I will let you 'take a crack at it' but if I here you
were not up to the job your next chance will be inventory for the grey
fleet. Now the Feynman is on a communications blackout except for log buoys
sent encoded directly to me. I do not have a way of contacting them that
you are coming and they may be a little jumpy right now. I would recomend
you approach the ship with caution and hail them from a good distance. If
they tell you to stand off, or even to return to Epsilon, ask no questions
and do as the CO orders. I have arranged for a D-Warp ship to be available
to take you to the Epsilon Indi system where the Feynman should be dealing
with a crisis on a Dyson Ring. I am not at liberty to give you any further
information than that." The Admiral hesitated for a moment. "I know you
are fresh out of the Academy and all hot and raring to show us what you've
got but listen to me son. I'm tossing you into the deep end. If this
mission goes wrong millions of lives may be lost. I don't even know if
there is a right way for this mission to go. Your bio says you can keep a
cool head. I pray that they weren't lying because you are going to need
one. I have a personal message for you to give to the CO. 'Time is
measured in days now, information is leaking and action will be soon, close
or have closure inflicted.' Have you got that Ensign?"
Ensign Bishop nodded slowly repeating the message once to himself
and wondering what it meant.
"Then dismissed. You can catch the D-Warp in docking bay 3."
