B.  Background Summary:

Sgt. Kingston was born on June 4, 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. 
Upon graduation from Avon Point High School in 1989, he enlisted in 
the United States Army, serving as an infantryman with the 4th Battalion, 105th Armored Infantry Regiment, 114th Infantry Division (Hvy Mech.). His unit was deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1990 as part of the War in the Gulf. Then Specialist Kingston and his Bradley team successfully covered the insertion of several infantry companies in the ground assault, earning him an Army Commendation Medal with "V" device and Valorous Unit Citation. After the War, SPC Kingston returned to his unit in Munich, Germany. Because of his actions as well as the actions of the 114th Division, the Division was given the nickname "Desert Thunder."

In late 1995, The "Desert Thunder" Division was again called to the Persian Gulf. This time, Khan Noonien Singh had taken power in the
Sinai Region and part of the Islamic nations that broke away from the former Soviet Union. By this time SPC Kingston was promoted to  Sergeant, and again, SGT Kingston had led his Bradley team into the heart of the Sinai Desert, expelling Singh's fanatics from the region. During the withdrawal, the convoy that Sgt. Kingston's team was escorting was attacked by partisans loyal to Singh's cause. His crew was successful in rescuing the convoy and repelling the partisan armored vehicles. For this action, Sgt. Kingston was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device. This defense had a terrible price for Michael. His brother was in one of the Bradleys next to Michael's. Gregory's Bradley was destroyed during the firefight, killing all on board. Michael still has the U.S. Flag and the Medal of Honor that was awarded posthumously to his brother.

SGT Kingston was then reassigned to the United Nations Vessel 
NORMANDY as part of a Joint Task Force in pursuit of the SS Botany 
Bay, which was captured by Khan Singh. However, the Normandy suffered an accident (sabotage?) which took the ship off the trajectory that the Botany Bay was on. The entire crew of the UNV NORMANDY went into a cryogenic sleep for survival, hoping that they would be rescued with in
a few months.  However, rescue didn't come until 2406 by the USS 
TALLAHASSEE. Out of a crew of 450 on the Normandy, only 6, including
Sgt. Kingston's, were still functioning. Apparently, a power surge after the accident blew most of the cryogenic circuits.

After a year of catch-up learning at the Academy, Michael decided 
to return to military service by accepting a promotion (appointment?) to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, Starfleet Marine Corps and served aboard the USS NORFOLK as the 2nd Platoon Sergeant/Armory NCOIC. After his tour on the NORFOLK, he applied for the Starfleet Officer Candidate Course at McKinley Station on Earth. He was accepted and excelled in his class. Because of his prior combat leadership and experience, Michael was commissioned as a Lieutenant Major and assigned to the USS PROMETHEUS as Executive Officer, 4th Battalion, 105th Marine Expeditionary Force, where he spent a year; transferring to SB ALIGHERI to assume duties as XO, 1st Batallion, 135th Marines on Camp Necessity for 2 years before his retirement in 2412.

The retirement was short-lived, as he was recalled to Active Status and further assigned to USS FEARLESS as the Marine Detachment CO.
